The Edmonton Oilers showed resiliency last night versus the New Jersey Devils. After blowing a 2-0 lead heading into the third period, the Oilers scored four goals in the final frame to take home a 6-3 win over New Jersey. While it was Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl that got the scoring started in the third, it was a couple of unsuspecting heroes that added the insurance goals. Adam Erne scored his first of the season in Oilers colours dangling the Devils goaltender to make it 5-3. Shortly after, Ryan McLeod scored his second of the game to take his tally to four on the season. It was a much needed win for the Oilers, who ended a three game losing streak. Tonight, Edmonton have an opportunity to get back to .500 with a win over the New York Rangers. The Rangers and Oilers meet earlier in the season and it didn't go well for Edmonton. Jonathan Quick stopped all 29 shots he faced helping the Rangers win 3-0. On today's show, Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin go live on Oilersnation Everyday at noon over on the Oilersnation YouTube channel. Joining Tyler and Liam is Jay Downton for a Sherwood Ford GIANT Pre Game show edition of Oilersnation Everyday. Also joining the show today is Colby Cohen. Cohen is joining the Nation Network with his new show A Morning Cup of Hockey which starts in the New Year. They guys will talk to him about that along with his thoughts on the Oilers from the first half of the season. If you have something to add to the conversation, you can leave your questions, comments and concerns in the Finning/CAT live YouTube chat. Hosted on Acast. The Oilers find themselves in the midst of another losing streak that's growing in length, which meant there was a lot to talk about on this week's podcast. Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never.Kicking off the podcast, I got started with a look at Christmas. Seeing as the big day is coming up on Monday, I wanted to go over some of the strangest Christmas traditions that I could find on the Internet. If you're looking for new ideas to spice up your holiday season, then this segment could be for you. Turning the podcast back to the Oilers, I got started with the current three-game losing streak and how this team is back to looking like the one that lost all of those games earlier in the season. While the loss to Tampa Bay was frustrating but ultimately liveable, the same cannot be said about the last two against Florida and the New York Islanders. One of the most interesting items to come out of last night's loss to New York is that Kris Knoblauch is, once again, shifting up his line combos a little bit. The most notable change, however, has to be Connor Brown being healthy scratched in favour of Adam Erne. If you had told me that would be happening when Brown signed his deal back in July, I never would have believed you in a million years. Is the move fair? It's certainly easy to defend given Brown's struggles. Lastly, I wrapped up the episode with another Righteous Sack Beating and a fresh round of voicemails to get your take on everything that's been happening since last week's episode. A fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never can only mean Wednesday afternoon and that you're on the back half of your work week. Are you excited? I'm excited.Kicking off this week's BLTN, I started with a recap of a very busy week for myself and the Nation. From the TOOL concert on Wednesday night to the Oilers' disaster in Minnesota on Friday to having the pendulum swing back the other way with a BOA win in the Heritage Classic, the emotional rollercoaster that is being an Edmonton fan never ends around here. Needless to say, having the boys kick off their season as poorly as they did was a major cause for concern, but it was equally fascinating to see how quickly the vibes changed with a win over the Calgary Flames. With the recap of my week out of the way, I dug into what's been a pretty busy week for the Oilers after the team waived Adam Erne and replaced him with a freshly signed Sam Gagner. For some fans, Gagner returning for a third of duty was precisely what they were looking for, while others hoped that Raphael Lavoie would finally get a crack at the NHL. How will it work out? Only time will tell. Lastly, I wrapped up the episode with another Righteous Sack Beating and a fresh round of voicemails to get your take on everything that's been happening since last week's episode. In the opening hour of the show the boys started to preview the upcoming EST Draft of TV/Movie coaches and if the Oilers should waive Connor Brown. Dusty and Lt. Eric also discussed the Oilers waiving Adam Erne, the signing of Sam Gagner and the Raiders firing Josh McDaniels late in the night. Plus they spun the wheel to determine the order of who will select their draft chair first.
Welcome to Day Three without Edmonton Oilers hockey. It has been a grind coming from the high of a victory at the Heritage Classic over the Calgary Flames. Thankfully, the Oilers are back in action tomorrow to take on the Dallas Stars at Rogers Place. The guys will preview that game a little before getting to Frank Seravalli from Daily Faceoff. With Frank, the three of them will recap the Heritage Classic. Frank will give his perspective on the event and we will find out if he thinks the event needs to be improved or if it is perfect the way it is. Additionally, the NHL came down hard on the Ottawa Senators today, not even a week after suspending Shane Pinto for 41 games. Did the NHL make the right decision here? The biggest news out of Oilers Country, though, is that Sam Gagner has signed back with the team. The Oilers announced yesterday that they have signed Gagner to a one-year deal, after sending Adam Erne to Bakersfield. Also on the show, Liam has come up with a game for Tyler and the listeners to play along with. He will describe a former Oilers career and wait for you to guess the correct answer. On top of that, he will have some trivia for everyone to play along with. If you would like to interact with Tyler and Liam on the show subscribe to the Oilersnation YouTube channel. Once you have subscribed, you can leave your comments in the Finning/CAT live chat. Additionally, you can even leave a comment in there for Frank. Tuesday means a fresh episode of Oilersnation Radio is wrapped up and ready to get you through the middle portion of your week. This week, we're recapping the Heritage Classic, the Adam Erne/Sam Gagner swap, and much more. Kicking off the podcast, we got started with a look at the breaking news from earlier today that has the Oilers waiving Adam Erne and replacing him with the newly signed Sam Gagner. Given that Erne was barely playing before his demotion, does it make sense to bring up Sam Gagner and do the same thing? How much will Samwise play? With the news out of the way, we looked back at Sunday's Heritage Classic and how the event was a spectacular experience for anyone lucky enough to be there. Whether it was winning a big game over the Flames, the depth scoring from throughout the lineup, or how Oilers fans made Sunday night a huge success, the Heritage Classic was a blast in every possible way. After breaking down what went down at C0mmonwealth Stadium a couple of days ago, we looked at some of the daily news that's come out in the days since to ensure you're up to date. Lastly, we wrapped up the Tuesday episode of ONR with another round of Woz's new segment, 'Can You Clear This Up for Me' to help make sense of everything that's happening these days. Hosted on Acast. It's another episode of 2 Guys and a Goalie presented by Coolbet Canada with Dustin Nielson, Matt Kassian and Joaquin Gage! The boys dive into bottom-six struggles for the Oilers, Adam Erne placed on waivers, neck guards and Halloween plans
As far as season openers go, the Oilers couldn't have done much worse than the 8-1 shellacking at the hands of the Vancouver Canucks. Even though it was only one game, Oilers fans were understandably pissed off about how things went, and now the question will be how the team rebounds in tomorrow's rematch.Kicking off the podcast, we started with a delicious debate about the most disappointing part about losing game one. Seeing as there were plenty of horrible things to pick from, we pointed out seemingly countless areas the Oilers will need to improve ahead of tomorrow's rematch. Changing gears, we spent the next couple of minutes talking about yesterday's autograph session at WEM and how hilarious it was to watch Woz finally get an autograph from Derek Ryan. From there, we walked through some of the news items that came out from the Oilers today, including the fact that the team is signing Adam Erne, Mattias Ekholm is expected to play tomorrow, and the hiring of Dani Rylan Kearney as a new pro scout. Obviously, knowing that Mattias Ekholm will be playing tomorrow is the thing we all wanted to talk about, but we also wondered what the plan is for Adam Erne and how he's going to be used. Needless to say, this is a city that loves guys that crash and bang, and Erne is definitely one of those guys. How will this fit work out? We shall see. Lastly, we wrapped up the Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio with another round of Ask the Idiots, Kennedy's quote game, and Hot and Cold performers.Shoutout to the episode's sponsors: Oodle Noodle: https://www.oodlenoodle.ca/ Cornerstone Insurance: https://www.cornerstoneins.ca/ Wilhauk Beef Jerky: https://www.wilhaukbeefjerky.com/Greta Bar Edmonton: https://www.gretabar.com/locations/edmontonCentury Mile Racetrack & Casino: https://www.cnty.com/centurymileAlberta Blue Cross: https://www.ab.bluecross.ca/index.php Visit www.nationgear.ca for merch and more.Follow us on Instagram @oilersnationdotcomFollow us on Twitter/Facebook/TikTok @OilersNationReach out to sales@thenationnetwork.com to connect with our Sales Team and discuss opportunities to partner with us! We are only one week away from puck drop between the Edmonton Oilers and the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena; as the clock ticks closer to the start of the regular season. However, before we get too far ahead of ourselves, the Oilers have a couple more pre-season games ahead of them, starting with the Calgary Flames tonight. What should fans be looking for in this game? The prominent place to start is that 12th-forward spot. Is tonight the night Raphael Lavoie grabs the spot for himself, or can Adam Erne have something to say about it? Let Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin know your thoughts in the YouTube chat. To interact with the guys throughout the show, subscribe to the Oilersnation YouTube channel.Ryan Pinder from Flamesnation and Barn Burner joins the show midway through. Last season was a dismal one for the Calgary Flames, but changes this off-season look to have changed the tide down south. Ryan Conroy is the new general manager, and Ryan Huska is the new head coach. Additionally, after news broke over the summer that half the team wanted to leave, rumours have changed due to Conroy's work recruiting his players to stay in Calgary, starting with Mikael Backlund. Today, with Pinder, Tyler and Liam will talk about all that and the expectations of this group, who narrowly missed the postseason in 2023.Towards the end of the show, we will check in with Tyler about what happened to his Toronto Blue Jays yesterday in game one of their series versus the Minnesota Twins. The Blue Jays get the chance to redeem themselves today, but can they do it?Shoutout to the episode's sponsors: Betway: https://betway.com/en/sports Oodle Noodle: https://www.oodlenoodle.ca/ Cornerstone Insurance: https://www.cornerstoneins.ca/ Sherwood Ford: https://www.sherwoodford.ca/ Sports Closet: https://sportscloset.ca/ Greta Bar Edmonton: https://www.gretabar.com/locations/edmontonCentury Mile Racetrack & Casino: https://www.cnty.com/centurymileAlberta Blue Cross: https://www.ab.bluecross.ca/index.php Star Mechanical: https://starmechanical.ca/Visit www.nationgear.ca for merch and more.Follow us on Instagram @oilersnationdotcomFollow us on Twitter/Facebook/TikTok @OilersNationReach out to sales@thenationnetwork.com to connect with our Sales Team and discuss opportunities to partner with us! There was no Baggedmilk or Tyler on this Friday episode of Oilersnation Radio; instead, it was Dan, Rick, Liam and Kennedy filling you in on everything Oilers.Like every episode, the show starts with the Delicious Debate, brought to you by Wilhauk Beef Jerky. The gang debated on the Oilers biggest deficiency from last season that should change this time around. After that, the biggest news coming out of Oil Country was the addition of Adam Erne on a professional tryout contract. Ken Holland now has three players on PTO after bringing in Brandon Sutter and Sam Gagner a couple of weeks ago, so what does this mean for the opening day lineup? Could one of those three or more crack the team? Shortly after, they moved away from the Oilers talk to discuss the Mike Babcock and Columbus Blue Jackets situation. Finally, to close the show, the gang played Kennedy's game, which had some big upgrades, along with Ask The Idiots and Hot and Cold performances. You can hear all of that and more on today's episode. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Did you think you weren't going to get a podcast just because we had our annual planning meetings at the Overlander Lodge near Hinton over the last couple of days?Kicking off this week's podcast, I got started with an update on the reviews contest I held a few weeks back. Now that I have everyone's information and details, I'll be putting in the order for BLTN hoodies and shipping them out as quickly as possible. I also walked through a quick update from our annual planning meetings out near Hinton. Without getting too much in the weeds on this, I just wanted to give everyone an update on what to expect from us heading into the new season. Turning the podcast back toward the Oilers, the team announced Adam Erne's PTO this past week and I wondered how/if he could fit with all of the other pieces already in place. I also dug into the interview Vinny Desharnais did on The Sick Podcast specifically the quotes from Connor McDavid relating to stats vs. wins. As the season draws closer, Tyler is working on a 10-part series to look at the biggest storylines surrounding the team and I wanted to look at the three articles that have been posted so far while also adding in some questions of my own. On the lighter side, Darnell Nurse announced that he had a second baby this past week and ads yet another young Oiler offspring that we all hope to see sitting in the Stanley Cup come June. Lastly, I wrapped up the episode with a fresh round of voicemails to get your take on everything that's been going on since last week's episode. Dylan Larkin was Detroit's only representative at the 2023 NHL All-Star game, but he made sure to shine arguably more than anybody else! Tune in as we discuss the All-Star weekend, including what's wrong with the Skills Competition, how Larkin fared in the Fastest Skater, how Hardest Shot & other events should be the focus, & what we'd do to "fix" the weekend - plus a review on Larkin's 5 goal performance during the All-Star game (with Matthew Tkachuk edging him out for MVP) (5:25)! In Red Wings news, Steve Yzerman waived Adam Erne to make room for Jonatan Berggren and, more surprisingly to some, Filip Zadina, who just finished a conditioning stint with the Grand Rapids Griffins in the AHL. With Erne clearing, what's next for Lalonde's roster? Does Zadina finally break out? Was waiving Erne the "right" move (16:30)? Also, Jakub Vrana has been heating up in the AHL. With him possibly back to his scoring ways, is there a path back to the Red Wings roster for him (24:40)? In addition to a quick note about Soderblom and Edvinsson playing well, we also cover Bo Horvat's 8 year, $8.5 million per season contract with Lou Lamoriello & the Islanders, what that means for Dylan Larkin's contract, whether it's a comparable deal to what he might make in Hockeytown, Steve Yzerman's position, & more (32:05). Finally, what the NHL has to do to increase its reach & viewership compared to other major sports leagues (40:25) before we take your questions during Overtime (48:50) - enjoy! Bridgman and Northpointe each are above the 215 student limit for teams to qualify for the 8-man playoffs. The two schools were both 9-0 this season and planned on facing each other Friday night in Bridgman. In a note to parents by Bridgman, The MHSAA said “that our game violated MHSAA bylaws. As a member district, the consequences of this event could lead to removal from the organization, thus potentially jeopardizing all of our student-athletes.” Bridgman will instead host a community tailgate and recognize their senior players, cheerleaders and marching band members and an intrasquad scrimmage. Bridgman has 14 players on their football team, out of 278 students at the school. Northpointe Christian has a total enrollment of 320.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
