Join us on our latest episode where we try a bourbon that was finished in barrels made from 300 year old oak. Cathedral French Oak Barrel Finish bourbon from Bardstown Bourbon Company is featured. This one is a blend of 5 different aged bourbons (with different recipes) that range from 9 years to 18 years old. The bourbon was then finished for 14 months in barrels made from 300 year old french oak that was harvested from the Berce forest in France. This same wood was used to restore the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris following a fire in 2019. Per the description these barrels, have an "intricate grain structure, unparalleled density, strong enough to restore the Notre Dame Spire". The plot of trees from this forest were planted around 1715 during the reign of Louis XIV.https://bardstownbourbon.com/products/cathedral-french-oak/Can we taste each of the 300 years this wood was "alive"? Send us a textDomain Dave explores Aldi's Quarter Cut Bourbon Barrel Red Blend from California, examining both the wine itself and the broader bourbon barrel aging trend at the $9.99 price point. The wine offers chocolate notes, soft tannins, and balanced acidity but raises questions about whether bourbon barrel finishing truly enhances more delicate wine flavors.• Aldi's $9.99 Quarter Cut Bourbon Barrel Red Blend is produced by Concha y Toro through one of their California properties• Bourbon barrels are charred rather than toasted, creating intense flavors designed for high-alcohol spirits (80%) versus wine's lower content (14.8%)• The wine features chocolate, mocha, cherry, blackberry and plum notes with surprisingly little noticeable bourbon barrel influence• The significant difference between whiskey and wine alcohol content means bourbon barrel finishing must be extremely delicate to avoid overpowering wine• Despite skepticism about the bourbon barrel trend, the wine itself drinks well with soft, sweet tannins and balanced acidityKeep it cheap! Even though Black Friday doesn't mean what it once did, Bourbon County is still an event - and we have Ryan Tracy with us at Beer on the Wall to help us taste through this year's lineup of six from Goose Island. Sure we were banned from the official media tasting, but we assess the whole group fairly - and find some surprises that are real standouts in the history of BCBS. Also, shenanigans may be afoot at FoBAB in regards to our Fantasy League; Ryan T. and Craig have a proposed wardrobe swap; we discuss BCBS variants that “don't exist”; Tracy shares a Rare Day story that can only lead to bias; we can't help but fondle the box; and we are finally sponsored by Jazz, the style of music. And don't miss out on our annual trip through Bourbon Country. We love the fall. The leaves change colors. The temperature gets colder. Stouts and Barleywines appear on the shelves. Autum brings so many wonderful changes. Evil Twin has brewed over a 1000 beers in their NYC brewery. How do we know? They released a beer called Batch No 1000 Brewed in NYC. This is an old ale made with maple syrup. While it's not a stout or a barleywine, it is a 13% ABV big boy. Danish brewers Bad Seed don't show up on shelves in Sweden very often. It's no surprise that Stefan found this in Copenhagen. Bourbon Barrel Aged Colossus 2023 is a English barleywine aged in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels. It's keeping us warm for sure. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #barleywine #oldale #barrelaged

As a listener of Bourbon Pursuit, you already know more than the average bourbon consumer that walks the aisles. We get into tons of different discussions that surround the whiskey industry and you've heard us talk about barrels that aren't owned by distilleries but sit on the books of brokers or middle-men. With the explosion of bourbon over the past few years, the cost to acquire those barrels from brokers has sky rocketed, and whenever there is an opportunity to make money, more people get into the game. Today, there are millions of barrels aging in warehouses that don't belong to brands but are done as investments for anybody willing to take the risk. It's really no different than the stock market and for that reason we have Jeremy Kasler and Sara Havens from Cask X join the show. We talk about the business model and how anyone with the some spare money can put their dollars into barrels of whiskey as an alternative investment. We go through the legal ramifications and the unrealized benefits of being a CaskX customer. We also talk about the current market where we are seeing a decline in prices and if that means all good things come to an end or if the market is still strong and is a good place to think about future investments. As sprawling as the Binny's Handpicked Single Barrel program has become, it all started with a single cask of Scotch from Signatory in 1997. The Whiskey Hotline's 2023 Signatory Handpicked Single Barrels have hit stores and this week we're sampling all eight offerings. Signatory labels are very information-heavy but leave a lot to be desired stylistically. The liquid inside is far from boring though because with Signatory picks, the Whiskey Hotline strives to find distilleries that are not usually available in the US. This week I sat down with Nate Klein who is the co-owner of Parsons North Brewing in Columbus, Ohio. Parsons North has a super cool outdoor space, as well as a pretty darn spacious indoor area as well. They opened at the beginning of 2019, and they have been rocking it for the past 4 years. PNB makes their own in house cider, as well as offering a full complement of mixed drinks and spirits. While there is not a kitchen at PNB you will have no issues locating a bite to eat from local eateries as well as the occasional food truck. Beer Selection: · Mexican Lager – 5% · Keller Whales · East Coast IPA – 7.2% · Bourbon Barrel imperial Stout - 11% You can find Parsons North Brewing at https://parsonsnorth.com/ and you can also see them on FB at @parsonsnorthbeer and IG at @parsons_north.
