#LaComa #MichelleHochstein #CynthiaBrown #Escritoras #Entrevista #EntreArtistasRadioyTv #CanalDeNoticiasCulturales #ByCsarZuri
Today's woman, as a young child, thought her family was rich. They had a big backyard and went on vacation but when she went to middle school, she became friends with wealthy children and realized she wanted to one day have that kind of life. So, in college she decided she would become a physical therapist. With her degree in hand, she eventually took a position at Duke University Hospital. In this academic medical setting, she realized she loved to be constantly learning and the routine of physical therapy started to bore her. So, at the age of 30, she decided she would become a doctor and one day be in a position where she could have incredible impact and influence. Today, she is walking that path to greatness as a department chair of internal medicine of a major hospital. It is my pleasure to introduce you to Dr. Cynthia Brown.
“What I recall most is the way that she grabbed my wrist and, shaking a bit, she said over and over again, ‘If it happens, run. Don't let that happen to you. Run. If it ever happens, run.’” It was years before Cynthia Brown understood what her great-grandmother, Athalia Howe, was talking about. On the morning of Nov. 11, 1898, Wilmington was a city in shock. The day prior, chaos reigned on the streets when a mob of armed white supremacists unleashed intimidation, threats and gunfire on the Black residents of Wilmington. In the third episode of "Unearthing 1898," host Hunter Ingram and guests look at Wilmington in the days and years after Nov. 10, 1898. What happened to the Black residents who fled or were banished from the city, many of them spending days hidden in fear in Wilmington swamps and cemeteries? How did the newly seized local government respond to the day of violence and attempt to restore order in an unruly city? And how did the events of 1898 lead to widespread legislative, economic, culture and societal changes that persisted throughout the state for decades and are still being dealt with today. Joining the episode are LeRae Umfleet, the author of "A Day of Blood" and lead research of North Carolina's commission on 1898; Cynthia Brown, historian of St. Stephens AME Church in Wilmington; and David Cecelski, historian and co-author of "Democracy Betrayed." Cape Fear Unearthed is written, edited and hosted by Hunter Ingram. Additional editing by Adam Fish. "cognitive dissonance"; NOUN - psychology the state of having inconsistent thoughts, beliefs, or attitudes, especially as relating to behavioral decisions and attitude change. Cognitive Dissonance with Minister Cynthia Brown – She shares how sad it is that people in the Church are upset about truth. They shouldn’t be upset with truth. They should rejoice in the truth. She talks about the Greek Mindset, Barbarian Mindset, and the Hebrew Mindset. She wants people to have a conversation and get rid of their Barbarian Mindset. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy and the Church is allowing him to do it because of Cognitive Dissonance. We cannot ignore the truth of what former President Bill Clinton, former President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton have done to destroy the Church and the Black community. We cannot ignore that leadership in the Church is allowing for Black Pride to take the hold Church down. You will learn a lot from this riveting discussion. This episode features a conversation on Becoming a Planetary Presence with Cynthia Brown, Dominican University of California Professor Emerita. Cynthia was an American educator-historian. She authored the titles Refusing Racism: White Allies in the Struggle for Civil Rights and Big History: From the Big Bang to the Present. Our host is Mary Evelyn Tucker, co-author of Journey of the Universe and professor at Yale University. In this conversation, Cynthia describes the “big history” approach to understanding the role of the human in relation to the historical unfolding of the cosmos and Earth, highlighting key threshold moments of evolutionary change. We hope you enjoy the Journey!--- What is our place in the 14-billion-year history of the universe? What roles do we play in Earth's history? How do we connect with the intricate web of life? This podcast series is part of a larger project called Journey of the Universe that invites us to reflect on these questions. It consists of a film, a book, a series of conversations, and online classes. The creators of the Journey project imagine that by knowing more about the universe and Earth we will also know more about ourselves. This may give us grounds for navigating our own journey in challenging times. How did we come to be part of this universe story? How do we belong and how can we participate in its future flourishing? This series is a gateway into exploring these questions. In these podcasts of the Journey of the Universe Conversations we will meet scientists and historians, environmentalists and teachers, gardeners and urban planners. All of them are reflecting on how we can be more fully alive in this context of participating in a universe story. Each podcast will have a section of the Journey of the Universe film narrated by Brian Thomas Swimme followed by a conversation hosted by Mary Evelyn Tucker.Connect deeply with these materials and more via the Journey of the Universe: A Story for Our Times Specialization, a series of Massive Online Open Courses hosted by Coursera and created by Yale.To receive up to date announcements on new podcasts and Journey community offerings, subscribe to our newsletter.
This episode is the second ON AIR COACHING session where you can listen in while I work with a coach to narrow her target audience and uncover clues about her coaching niche.Cynthia Brown recently graduated from Coach Training Alliance where she met one of my clients, Audra, who referred her to me. That and my podcast encouraged Cynthia to apply for On Air Coaching with me.Let me introduce Cynthia Brown ...Cynthia is the founder of New Lane Coaching. One of her main concerns is that women business owners often sell themselves short. She wants women to know that their small businesses can become more than they originally dreamed. All it takes is one small step each day.Cynthia is currently involved in Toastmasters International to learn to speak at women business own associations. She's a certified coach and member of the International Coach Federation. While Cynthia has initially targeted a broad audience — women small business owners, she wasn't certain about it, partially because she had another audience that was tugging on her heart strings:high school students to help them transition to college or a careerWhen she thinks about that audience she feels sheer excitement! But she had big doubts about this choice for a coaching niche. We took some time to investigate whether that audience would be viable. In other words, would it pay off in income and clients. We ultimately agreed that audience wouldn't sustain her financially.Parents might invest in her help if her goal was to help those students get into a good college or university. But they might not be as excited about investing much to have Cynthia help their kids choose a vocation. In our conversation, Cynthia became certain that it was best to only serve the audience of high school kids as a "side gig" where she'll offer support for lower fees as she has time and inclination.Cynthia wants to have a thriving business and not be held up by struggling to convince parents. We talked about the old "follow your passion" adage and how important it is to look for an audience and niche that both feels joyful and will pay off.Sometimes that means going with your second choice unless earning a living isn't important to you.Next, I prompted Cynthia to share a personal story about a previous employee she helped to formulate his career path. Years later he wrote her a thank you note for how her support influenced him.It was a peak experience for Cynthia that touched her deeply. And I wanted to earmark that story as a potential clue for her niche. Then, we shifted to talking about the broad audience that she'd set for herself in New Lane Coaching, working with women small business owners.Cynthia felt it was too broad. And so did I.First, we looked at whether it was important to her to limit to women.Cynthia decided that, no, it's not..Many coaches are inclined to specify women as a way to narrow their niche. That's a good idea if it really matters to you, the coach. If you feel more of a solid affinity with one gender or another, go ahead and narrow that way. That alone won't help you stand out though. But there are other ways to narrow an audience that will help you more than simply narrowing by gender. And narrowing is a good idea if you're targeting business owners or entrepreneurs because it's a broad audience that is so highly marketed to, it's critical to stand out in some way.Isolate a particular type of business owner, such as an industry or a professional position.And/or add an adjective that helps to narrow. For example, when Marshall Stern, a coach I interviewed in Episode 11, narrowed by adding the word "driven". A personality based adjective can help because not all business owners will self-select to that group. Still that may not be enough to help you stand out in the cr

Equality of opportunity is supposed to be a fundamental American principle. But it is not being realized today – in large part due to our failing education system. Despite being better funded, American public schools consistently lag those of comparable countries. The disparity is especially stark in inner-city and minority school districts, where poor children are most in need of quality education. Is school choice the solution? What role should the federal government play in education? And what legal issues are implicated by reform efforts? -- This panel was presented at the 2016 National Student Symposium on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at the University of Virginia School of Law. -- Featuring: Hon. Clint Bolick, Arizona Supreme Court; Mrs. Cynthia Brown, Senior Fellow, Center for American Progress; Dr. William Galston, Senior Fellow, Governance Studies, The Brookings Institution; and Prof. Amy Wax, Robert Mundheim Professor of Law, University of Pennsylvania Law School. Moderator: Hon. Jennifer W. Elrod, U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit. Introduction: Ms. Abby Hollenstein, 1L Committee Co-Chair, University of Virginia School of Law Student Chapter.
