Our guests discuss the instrumental role of student advocacy groups in elevating the unique needs of students with disabilities and chronic illnesses and the imperative for specialized support. They also discuss the transformative effects of incorporating specialized Disability Resource Professionals (DRPs) within medical school frameworks. Our guests outline the myriad benefits associated with dedicated DRPs, ranging from heightened student satisfaction to an enriched curriculum that prioritizes disability-related matters with greater awareness and inclusivity. C., Wakefield, C., Chen, K., Navin, N., Ryan, M. C., Akbani, R., Broom, B. M. Abstract: OmicPioneer-sc is an open-source data visualization/analysis package that integrates dimensionality-reduction plots (DRPs) such as t-SNE and UMAP with Next-Generation Clustered Heat Maps (NGCHMs) and Pathway Visualization Modules (PVMs) in a seamless, highly interactive exploratory environment. It includes fluent zooming and navigation, a statistical toolkit, dozens of link-outs to external public bioinformatic resources, high-resolution graphics that meet the requirements of all major journals, and the ability to store all metadata needed to reproduce the visualizations at a later time. A user-friendly, multi-panel graphical interface enables non-informaticians to interact with the system without programming, asking and answering questions that require navigation among the three types of modules or extension from them to the Gene Ontology or information on therapies. The visual integration can be useful for detective work to identify and annotate cell-types for color-coding of the DRPs, and multiple NGCHMs can be layered on top of each other (with toggling among them) as an aid to multi-omic analysis. The tools are available in containerized form with APIs to facilitate incorporation as a plug-in to other bioinformatic environments. The capabilities of OmicPioneer-sc are illustrated here through application to a single-cell RNA-seq airway dataset pertinent to the biology of both cancer and COVID-19 Copy rights belong to original authors. Senior Analyst Azib Khan: As we flagged as a potential development last week, APRA has announced that it has eased dividend restrictions for Authorised Deposit-Taking Institutions (ADIs). APRA has said that, for 2020, it expects ADIs to retain at least half of their earnings, and actively use dividend reinvestment plans (DRPs) and/or other capital management initiatives to at least partially offset the diminution in capital from distributions. Azib Khan Morgans Senior Analyst explains the changes.

Abstract: The most common genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a repeat expansion mutation in the C9orf72 gene. Repeat-associated non-AUG (RAN) translation of this expansion produces five species of dipeptide repeat proteins (DRPs). The arginine containing DRPs, polyGR and polyPR, are consistently reported to be the most toxic. Here, we uncover Type I protein arginine methyltransferase (PRMT) inhibitors as possible therapeutics for polyGR- and polyPR- related toxicity. Furthermore, we reveal data that suggest that asymmetric dimethylation (ADMe) of polyGR is a determining factor in its pathogenesis. Copy rights belong to original authors. Direct evidence for decreased presynaptic inhibition evoked by PBSt group I muscle afferents after chronic SCI and recovery with step-training in the decerebrated rat

Link to bioRxiv paper: http://biorxiv.org/cgi/content/short/2020.05.05.078444v1?rss=1 Authors: Caron, G., Bilchak, J. N., Cote, M.-P. Abstract: Spinal cord injury (SCI) results in the disruption of supraspinal control of spinal networks and an increase in the relative influence of afferent feedback to sublesional neural networks, both of which contribute to enhancing spinal reflex excitability. Hyperreflexia occurs in ~75% of individuals with chronic SCI and critically hinders functional recovery and quality of life. It is suggested to result from an increase in motoneuronal excitability and a decrease in presynaptic and postsynaptic inhibitory mechanisms. In contrast, locomotor training decreases hyperreflexia by restoring presynaptic inhibition. Primary afferent depolarization (PAD) is a powerful presynaptic inhibitory mechanism that selectively gates primary afferent transmission to spinal neurons to adjust reflex excitability and ensure smooth movement. However, the effect of chronic SCI and step-training on the reorganization of presynaptic inhibition evoked by hindlimb afferents, and the contribution of PAD has never been demonstrated. The objective of this study is to directly measure changes in presynaptic inhibition through dorsal root potentials (DRPs) and its association to plantar H-reflex inhibition. We provide direct evidence that H-reflex hyperexcitability is associated with a decrease in transmission of PAD pathways activated by PBSt afferents after chronic SCI. More precisely, we illustrate that PBSt group I muscle afferents evoke a similar pattern of inhibition onto both L4-DRPs and plantar H-reflexes evoked by the tibial nerve in Control and step-trained animals, but not in chronic SCI rats. These changes are not observed after step-training, suggesting a role for activity-dependent plasticity to regulate PAD pathways activated by flexor muscle group I afferents.
