In this episode, Dr Natalie Lancer, with Juliette Alban-Metcalfe, Dr Anna Kane and Dr Eva-Maria Graf, discusses how research can be applied to coaching in organisations. We cover linguistic research in coaching conversations, the use of psychometric tools in coaching, and confidence at work. We ask: What do we mean by self-confidence? How can we use different models and tools to build confidence in clients? What do coaches and clients do when they are having an authentic coaching conversation? What does the research show about using closed questions? What can we learn from the EDI (Embodied, Dynamic, Inclusive) model about confidence including our physical experience? What are the 12 types of questioning sequences that show up in coaching? How do coaches work with ideologies, stereotypes and generalisations, including gender, when coaching leaders? How can psychometric tools support the coaching process towards increasing self-awareness? What makes coaching unique? We talk about the benefits and limitations of coaching tools, including psychometrics, in achieving the aims of better leadership and team working. We also discuss how to manage coachees' resistance during the coaching process. The episode concludes with the panel sharing their future research plans. Our guests today are: Juliette Alban-Metcalfe is a Chartered Occupational Psychologist, CEO of the Real World Group, author and researcher. 90% of companies have some sort of employee listening programme, but only 7% of employees feel their company is very good at doing anything with that feedback. When it comes to employee data, how many companies are ticking the box of collecting various bits of information, including sentiment towards the business, through surveys and other such listening mechanisms, and then do very little with it? Is it because they are overwhelmed, don't have the skills, or can't be bothered? In episode 47 of the Sticky From The Inside Podcast, host Andy Goram, from the employee engagement and workplace culture consultancy, Bizjuicer, talks to Kevin Campbell, an employee data scientist from Qualtrics. Kevin shares his experiences of working for Qualtircs, Gallup, Deloitte, and as an independent data consultant and shines a light on how to turn all this data into real action, that moves the business, and those in it, forward. ----more---- Join The Conversation Find Andy Goram on LinkedIn here Follow the Podcast on Instagram here Follow the Podcast on Twitter here Check out the Bizjuicer website here Get a free consultation with Andy here Check out the Bizjuicer blog here Download the podcast here ----more---- Useful Links Follow Kevin Campbell on LinkedIn here Find out more about The Four Enablers of Engagement here Read the "Engage For Success" evidence paper here Follow David MacLeod OBE on LinkedIn here Follow Nita Clarke on LinkedIn here Find out about Google's Heartbeat Analysis here Find out about Employee Journey Analytics here ----more---- Full Episode Transcript Get the full transcript of the episode here

This is so far my the most energetic podcast of 2019. I interviewed Lara Morgan last year, and her motto is ‘only actions count’ - I love jumping into these ‘cold’ conversation and see how those go. And this one was just purely amazing. At the end of the podcast I found out that Lara had actually written a book about her experience, something that I hadn’t been aware of. I now have a copy (thank you again) and her story of building a multi million business from scratch with hard work is utterly mind bobbling. For her success is all about choice and making money to create choice, wanting to be an example for her children. As a sales and negotiation expert, she has a ton of drive to succeed. She lives by her high standards in business and private life, being very disciplined and an early riser, prioritising things recklessly. Her ambition is to live to 120 years of age, but she couldn’t master that or her ‘work-life-challenge’ without staying fit and having a supporting husband; plus she emphasises the need for a strong mind. "Be more self-disciplined" is her advice at the end. Only action counts. Projects she is involved in: Scentered - Restoring Lifestyle Balance Naturally https://scentered.me/ Dryrobe - the world’s warmest and most advanced change robe https://dryrobe.com/ Gate8 Luggage - avoid baggage check in https://www.gate8-luggage.co.uk/ Kitbrix - no fuss, just organised kit https://kitbrix.com/ Yogi Bare - Yoga accessories https://www.yogi-bare.co.uk/ Engage For Success - https://engageforsuccess.org/ Books she recommends are of course her own “More Balls than most” and “Lynda Gratton - The 100 Year Life” - more on my recommendations page. This podcast is hosted by Volker Ballueder (Ballueder Partners) who also wrote a book on productivity and life improvement #BeBetter.
Special Guest: Cat Barnard, Working the Future and Sian Fording, EFS Core Team Join us as we discuss the Engage for Success "One Change" project, which is an idea that crystallised following this year's Engage for Success conference. Inspired by both the great content and the surrounding conversations that took place on the day, Cat Barnard and Sian Fording decided they wanted to maintain the momentum. They've been out and invited the keynote speakers from the event to think about one change they'd make to workplaces to drive employee engagement. You can see the results of their work on the website and their goal is that these video clips inspire the wider Engage for Success community to implement small and simple changes within their work environments to improve engagement. Cat spent over 20 years in the technology staffing and recruitment field, prior to setting up Working the Future. Her experiences in recruitment gave her a detailed picture of why organisations sometimes fail to retain staff, and this inevitably and predominantly leads back to a failure to engage employees. Working the Future specialises in helping business leaders adapt to increasingly disruptive and challenging commercial environments and focuses particular effort on helping leaders understand the importance of employee engagement in driving business success. Sian joined EFS in February 2017 as Content Curator and is leading on setting up the ‘Virtual Content Team'. She was on secondment from Academi Wales, Welsh Government, and now continues as an EFS volunteer coordinating the EFS Wales TAG activity. Sian has a passion for excellent digital communications and believes sharing stories and information is an important part of improving leadership, employee engagement and the world of work! My guest Cathy Brown is Executive director for Engage for Success, and passionately believes that helping people find a better way to work can make a big difference to people's lives, their organisations and ultimately to the country.

Susannah Couper shows sales managers how to unleash the full potential of their sales teams resulting in more motivated, focused and happier sales professionals. Susannah spent 22 years as a field sales person for large blue chips mainly within the services industry and understands the emotional roller coaster of high pressure selling intimately. She has been engaged in Coaching, Mentoring and Emotional Intelligence training for the past 7 years. Susannah is passionate about sharing her insights and knowledge and how so often sales people are making their jobs a lot more difficult than they need to be. The true success of all the external resources that businesses provide, is significantly dependent upon the willingness of the employee to use the resources. True long lasting change can only come from personal choice. In order to make a personal choice, our egos need to discover the personal benefit or gain. The newly launched Sales MindSet Matters teaches and develops emotional intelligence (EQ) which has now become far more important in business that IQ. So much so that over 75% of Fortune 500 companies are already incorporating EQ training and reaping huge rewards. Host: Jo Moffatt
The Engage for Success Radio Show has been running for almost three years now. We had a Christmas Show at the end of the first year we were broadcasting but not last year, so we are doing something special this year. This was inspired by a 'morris dancing team building event' that Cathy Brown's partner donated to us (Cathy is an avid morris dancer!). And during our first year we interviewed Andrea Callanan from Sing and Inspire, talking about how they use singing to engage employees and why it is such a great tool to build team relationships, improve communication and motivate staff. And they have kindly agreed to help us out with this festive show. We will spend an hour rehearsing a couple of Christmas songs, in harmony - no unison singing here! And then, after a short break, we will perform live on our radio show at 5.30pm!

Special guest: Sean Trainor, Chair of the Communicate for Success Special Interest Group (SIG) The link between employee communications and business success is perhaps obvious when you look at the four enablers for success identified in the MacLeod report. The life in the day of an employee communications practitioner involves supporting leaders and managers articulate the purpose of the organisation and facilitating dialogue with front-line staff to make sure their voice is heard. Recent research amongst practitioners demonstrates a desire to spend more time on these activities away from the humdrum of providing functional and operational updates. What is holding internal communications practitioners back from playing a more fulfilling role? What role will social media inside enterprise play and how is that likely to change the role of employee communications? These and other questions will be explored in the SIG Communicate For Success. Hosts: Jo Moffatt
Special guest: Bec Richmond, COO & Board Member at Melcrum Ltd Bec will share some key insights from Melcrum's new study Innovation and Intervention in Manager Communication, looking at how smart companies are approaching leader and manager communication to improve business outcomes such as change management, employee engagement, and alignment with strategy and organizational vision. The research examines the array of training methods and principles used around the globe to improve manager communication; sharing the different-in-kind principles and practices that characterize effective training: tailored, contextual, experiential and, in some cases, just-in-time. The research also profiles organisations that have equipped managers to be strong communicators by reframing traditional messaging toolkits and centralised communications, giving managers the know-how and commitment to move it forward. Special guests: Arnaud Henneville of Challengera & Chantal Rafflin of GE Healthcare DGS “We asked ourselves; would not we improve the success rate of strategies implementation if we could engage people in the process? What's more, with the world moving to the Cloud and all fundamental work processes going through ‘digitalisation', how can we help companies secure business results faster by cascading initiatives in a way that makes work fun, social and engaging?” We'll be interviewing Arnaud Henneville, co-founder of Challengera & Chantal Rafflin, global HRD at DGS (Detection & Guidance Solutions) – a global business unit of GE Healthcare. After 10+ years as management consultants specialising in change-management, Arnaud and his co-founder spotted two problems that were both present in almost all companies. On the one hand, 90% of strategies fail due to poor execution. On the other hand, 87% of the global workforce is not fully engaged in their work. Together with Chantal Rafflin, we will discuss this global problem and the solution applied by DGS. DGS, worked together with Challengera and its customizable cloud-based social platform to engage 1600+ globally spread employees on the culture by putting the DGS's core values in practise in a cost effective, business-connected yet fun and social way. Special guest: Lara Morgan Lara is an active supporter of the EFS movement as a member of the Task Force. Lara began to develop the skills of an entrepreneur at an early age! Her parents lived and worked in Hong Kong, whilst she and her brother would travel halfway round the world to school in Scotland. Her independent childhood and her parents being wonderful ‘leaders by example' all attributed to her understanding of business today. She finished school at the age of 18 fully expecting to attend university. However, that same year her father was declared bankrupt. As a result, she found herself borrowing her first business clothes from a mate of her mothers and went for an interview. At 18 she taught herself the art of sales, and by 21 she was managing a Yellow Pages sales team in 6 countries in the Gulf. In 1991, at the age of 23, she started her first business, Pacific Direct Ltd, which manufactured and sold brand licensed toiletries and amenities to the hotel industry. Seventeen years later, she sold her majority share (99%) in 2008 for the sum of £20million. Since then, she spends quality time with her husband and three lively daughters. Lara is the Founder of CompanyShortcuts.com, a source of practical advice and frameworks to enable businesses leaders to achieve accelerated growth. She is seriously passionate about Leadership, Self and Employee Motivation (you might even remember her for celebrating achieving her first £1m profit by taking her staff on an all-expenses paid holiday to Barbados in 2005) and Business Growth; and she regularly talks about these and other specific topics based on her own experiences. Special guests: Perry Timms and Graham Frost from the ConnectingHR Unconference - volunteers from the organising group Join us to find out what an Unconference is and why you might find the ConnectingHR Conference interesting. The event will be very different to any standard conference you have been to before. The agenda is driven by the attendees, not the event organisers. This means that the event is highly interactive and participative and whilst there will be industry experts and thought leaders in attendance, they are not driving the agenda, or, as is typical with a normal conference, delivering long, one way presentations. The day will be broken up into a number of free flowing discussion groups based around subjects as suggested by the attendees in the lead up to the unconference.
