Part 2 of our double-episode about the Working-Class Literature Festival held every year in Florence, at the former GKN car parts factory, which was taken over by the workers after they were made redundant in 2021.We're joined again by working-class author and one of the main organisers of the festival, Alberto Prunetti, and former GKN worker, Dario Salvetti. We also talk to another two working-class writers who have participated in the festival: Claudia Durastanti, who helps organise the festivals, and Anthony Cartwright, who has attended the last two.In this episode, we discuss what went on at the last two festivals and what made them different from conventional literary events: from the attendees and various events and presentations to the participation of GKN workers not just in logistics but in readings and performances. We also discuss the possibilities for the future of the festival - and for the GKN struggle itself.Full show notes including further reading, photos, a documentary about the GKN struggle, and a full transcript are available on our website: https://workingclasshistory.com/podcast/wcl10-11-florence-working-class-literature-festival/AcknowledgementsMany thanks also to Alberto Prunetti and Edizioni Alegre for giving us permission to reproduce photos from previous years' festivalsThanks to all our patreon supporters for making this podcast possible. First Phosphate's CEO, John Passalacqua joined Steve Darling from Proactive to discuss the company taking a major step toward securing a robust North American supply chain for lithium iron phosphate batteries through a strategic partnership with GKN Powder Metallurgy, a global leader in iron powder production. This collaboration follows the successful integration of First Phosphate's magnetite into GKN Hoeganaes' proprietary Ancorsteel melting process, leading to the creation of high-purity iron powder. This high-purity product serves as a precursor for LFP cathode active material, a critical component in batteries for the electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage industries. The partnership will see First Phosphate incorporate Ancorsteel into its upcoming iron phosphate precursor and LFP CAM production facility in Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean, Quebec, aiming for an annual production capacity of 400,000 tonnes by 2032. GKN Hoeganaes is set to scale its operations at its Gallatin, Tennessee, facility, already the world's largest steel atomizing plant. GKN's Cinnaminson, New Jersey, R&D facilities will play a critical role in enhancing and optimizing the process. #proactiveinvestors #firstphosphatecorp #phosphate #BéginLamarcheproject #CEOInterview #LFPBattery #LithiumIronPhosphate #BatteryMaterials #NorthAmericanSupply #IronPhosphate #Electrification #CircularEconomy #QuebecMining #invest #investing #investment #investor #stockmarket #stocks #stock #stockmarketnews

Efficiency is a critical pillar in EV powertrain design. Ideally, EV components manufacturers want to convert every single available kilowatt stored within the battery into energy capable of driving the vehicle, and getting as close to perfect as possible is one of the holy grails of design. That's why engineers spend endless hours finding ways to mitigate the effects of heat and friction, because even seemingly tiny saves in these areas can make a huge difference when it comes to an EV's performance. With over 2.5 million electric drive systems (and counting!) delivered, GKN Automotive knows this as well as anybody. "It's really critical that the EV powertrain is designed to consume the least amount of waste possible to increase the range availability of the vehicle and give the driver a better experience when it comes to things like range anxiety or charging," says Ben DeLand, director of electrical hardware engineering, GKN Automotive. "In EVs, a mountain of R&D money and effort has been spent, and I think over the past 10 years we've seen massive gains in efficiency."In this episode of The Amped EV Podcast, DeLand gives his thoughts on the overlap and complexity in EV and all-wheel drive systems, how GKN Automotive aims to provide versatility in its EV powertrain solutions, the significant EV powertrain advancements that have been made over the past decade, and more. The Buzz: www.thebuzzevnews.com

Additive manufacturing is a dynamic space for various reasons: The technology is advancing and application possibilities are still being developed, and as a direct consequence, the landscape of AM companies is subject to change due to investor moves; mergers and acquisitions; and startups emerging from “stealth mode.” On this podcast, and in related reporting for Additive Manufacturing Media, we serve manufacturers by covering AM technology and applications — the corporate and financial moves are not the focus. And yet, one realm affects the other. The company moves shape what we cover and affect the choices of manufacturers as they aim to proceed with the technology. In this episode of AM Radio, Peter Zelinski and Stephanie Hendrixson talk about this. They discuss how the corporate and financial developments among AM companies play out for AM users, and where the dynamism of the additive space is likely to lead in the future.
