Today on the podcast, I'm joined by Krissy Miles—speaker, author, and leader with the Nfluence Network. From growing up in a home marked by poverty, trauma, and instability, Krissy's journey is one of radical repentance, transformation, and total submission to God.She shares candidly about the pain of her past, the deep emotional wounds she carried, and how her desire to escape it all only led her deeper into confusion and despair. But when Krissy surrendered her life fully to Jesus, everything changed. In just four months, the trajectory of her life shifted dramatically—including the miraculous way she met her husband.Krissy now equips others to walk in freedom through biblical discipleship, obedience, and hearing God's voice clearly. Her testimony is a powerful reminder that no matter how far we feel from God, He's still able to reach us—and restore us.

It's been a busy year for Stuart and me, and we kick off the episode with some festive banter, steering clear of any Mariah Carey renditions—thankfully! Stuart reflects on how much we've achieved and the importance of this reflective time of year. Together, we unpack what made these five episodes so impactful and why they've captured the attention of our audience.  Coming in at number five, we discuss Episode 168 with the brilliant Claire Jenks, titled “So You Think You're Busy? How to Get Out of Overwhelm and Get Out of Your Own Way.” This episode tackled time management, productivity, and overcoming imposter syndrome—common themes that MSPs wrestle with daily. Stuart reminds us that time is finite, and how we choose to use it determines our success. He emphasises the power of saying “no” to less important demands to focus on what truly matters. As MSP leaders, finding time to prioritise and plan can transform the way we work, and this episode served as a timely reminder of how to do just that.  At number four, we revisit Episode 184 with Jay McBain, “The Future of Running Your MSP in an AI World.” AI dominated headlines this year, and this episode provided much-needed clarity on its practical application for MSPs. Stuart and I agree that while AI is exciting, the focus should remain on operational efficiency. It's not about chasing shiny objects but ensuring that existing tools and systems are fully utilised to deliver results. Jay's message that AI will augment—not replace—good old-fashioned SOPs resonated with many. The key takeaway? Use AI as a supercharger, not a distraction, and lean on your vendors to guide adoption in a meaningful way.  In third place is one of our early Ask Stuart episodes, Episode 143, “How to Get More Out of My Team.” This topic is close to the heart of every MSP owner who understands that their team is often the most significant investment in their business. Stuart reflects on how leadership, accountability, and communication are pivotal to maximising team potential. From the importance of defining your “Pied Piper tune” to creating a culture that aligns with your mission and values, this episode packed in valuable advice for improving team dynamics and achieving better results. It's no wonder it's one of the year's favourites.  At number two, we revisit Episode 147 with Mark Copeman from Wingman, “How to Get the Best Out of the MSP Global Event.” While this episode centred around preparing for events, it struck a deeper chord about the value of connection and learning. Stuart and I discussed the importance of defining success before attending any event, focusing on the right conversations and relationships to achieve meaningful outcomes. For many MSPs, getting out of their day-to-day bubble and engaging with peers and vendors at events is transformative. This episode captured that essence perfectly, and the feedback from listeners was phenomenal.  Finally, at the top spot, we celebrate Episode 144 with Julie Hutchinson, “The Art of Having a Difficult Conversation.” This episode was a runaway success, receiving ten times the downloads of our second-place podcast. Julie's expertise in guiding leaders through difficult conversations resonated deeply with our audience. Stuart highlights how avoiding difficult discussions only compounds problems, while Julie's frameworks provide a clear, structured way to address challenges positively. This episode wasn't just about managing tough topics; it reframed these conversations as opportunities to strengthen teams and drive results. It's no surprise it captured the hearts of so many listeners.  As Stuart and I reflect on 2024, we're immensely proud of what we've achieved. Helping over 50 MSPs this year has been a highlight, and we've streamlined our own processes to deliver even more value to our clients. From enhancing our accountability systems to evolving our maturity score framework, everything we've done this year has been driven by one mission: helping MSPs scale to £1 million and beyond while enjoying more time, profit, and freedom.  We've also launched the Future Leaders Programme, empowering our clients to take their businesses to the next level. It's been amazing to witness the confidence and transformation within our community. The energy, the success stories, and the feedback have been nothing short of inspiring.  As we sign off, Stuart and I want to thank you, our incredible listeners, for your support this year. Whether you've tuned in for tips, strategies, or just a bit of inspiration, we're grateful to have you on this journey. 2025 is set to be even bigger and better, and we can't wait to share what's coming next. For now, have a very Merry Christmas, enjoy the time with your families, and we'll see you in the New Year, ready to hit the ground running. If we spend 2 hours a day eating, then in 70 years, that's over 50, 000 hours!Doesn't that seem like something we should pay close attention to? And yet, because it is so routine and habitual, eating becomes automatic. We eat whatever, whenever, and do other things at the same time. Now, it's not my place to judge how you live your life, but...If you're like I was, and you are dissatisfied with how you look and feel in some way, then it may be time to examine HOW you eat.For me, I essentially gained weight from the day I was born till I turned 34. (Which obviously makes sense up to a certain point.)But when I started to feel a little too heavy, and started to wonder why, for all this working out and hiking, I didn't have a lean body and 6-pack abs... I knew it was time to look deeper.I devised a whole new system of eating for myself, which I have talked about*, but nothing changed until I stopped this ONE behaviour.Gaining insight into distracted eating and mindless living has allowed me to better nourish myself and get the results I want. So I want to share this idea with you.If you're working on burning stubborn fat, losing belly fat, or you're looking for weight loss tips, I believe that mindful eating is often overlooked. Let's dig into it right now and get you going on something that can start TODAY!In less than 15 minutes I'll explain how distracted eating is a symptom of mindless living and share with you the shift I had to make to begin eating well and looking good ;)-----*For more on Improving Your Eating, check out Season 3 Episode 88 from October 16, 2023:"Low Energy? “Burnout is a byproduct of a dysfunctional work environment.” – Joy Energy Time   OVERVIEW: Jason A. Duprat, Entrepreneur, Healthcare Practitioner, and Host of the Healthcare Entrepreneur Academy podcast, dives deep into the world of high achievers, their struggles, and the game-changing solutions to overcome burnout. Dr. Sharon Grossman is a psychologist, coach, and author specializing in helping high achievers transform from exhausted to extraordinary. With over 19 years of experience, she has worked with physicians, entrepreneurs, and nurses, guiding them to regain control over their lives and thrive. Her book, "The 7E Solution to Burnout: Transforming High Achievers from Exhausted to Extraordinary," has helped countless individuals find balance and success in their personal and professional lives.   EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS: Sharon Grossman is a psychologist turned coach who focuses on helping physicians and entrepreneurs manage burnout. She transitioned from therapy to coaching, as she was more passionate about coaching and wanted to focus on something that had a significant impact on people's lives. A lot of people experience burnout without really understanding what it is, so she made it her mission to educate the public about burnout, its signs, and its symptoms. The way she defines burnout is chronic stress, which is different from acute stress, and it starts to take a toll on a person when they keep coming up against the same problems again and again. Burnout happens for different reasons, such as working in a toxic work environment or having too much work to do in a short amount of time. Sharon helps her clients manage their minds, optimize their time, and change their relationship with themselves to prevent burnout and enjoy their work without overwhelm. Emotional exhaustion is a common symptom of burnout that drains energy and can lead to negative thoughts. Changing scenery or location can help break the pattern of burnout. A customized recovery strategy that targets individual contributing factors is essential to combat burnout. Decoding your burnout to identify contributing factors, including examining your programming, environmental stressors, and other parts of your life.   TWEETABLE QUOTES: “Your burnout might look very different from everybody else's burnout. It doesn't mean that what they have is burnout and that what you have is something else. It just means that you have a different version.” – Sharon Grossman “Psychologically, burnout can lead to increased irritability, difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, and a decreased sense of accomplishment or satisfaction with work. On this show…we are recognizing that unsettling feeling and listening to our restless hearts as we look for more. More meaning, more opportunity, more purpose, and more satisfaction. Unsure of where to look? You aren't alone. So many of us get stuck in the ruts of the day-to-day monotony of life. CLIP What gets you excited about looking for more? Because the fact is, you have to want more to look for more. Maybe it's experience and adventure or learning something new. Maybe it's spending time with the precious people in your life and growing your connections. Whatever whispers to you that there's more out than the routine of life, grab hold and ask for more.  I think there are seasons of your life when you're naturally more curious. I can think of a few that I've already walked through. When you're young and testing the waters of anything and everything. You are always looking for more and MORE RIGHT NOW! During the nesting phase I kept my head down and my “more” became more time in each day, more money to cover the bills, and more help with the children. When I recognized a bit of auto-pilot mentality surface I began looking for something to shake up the rut. For me, I love to create. Give me scissors, glue, paint, fabric, yarn…you name it and I'm creating. It's therapeutic and satisfying. I also love to learn new things. I'm not an adrenaline junky so you won't catch me skydiving or bungee jumping. BTW if you do, make sure I haven't been kidnapped. In the next season, I'm hoping to travel and see more of this amazing and wondrous world. What season of life are you in? Episode 32: The Time Management Hack to Get More Out of Your DayOn this episode of Hire A Millennial Virtual Assistant Podcast, John talks about a hack to manage your time wisely and get more out of your day at work. Task batching is a smart time management and productivity strategy. It involves grouping similar tasks into a batch, and then addressing these before moving. By doing so you avoid multitasking. And what is also known as context, switching, jumping back and forth between tasks. In this episode, John talks about how to be effective while doing Task Batching. Task batching allows your brain to stay focused for longer, which increases your attention span. Maybe not initially as you were just starting to do it, but over the period of weeks or a few weeks, you'll notice a remarkable improvement in your attention span. You get more things done. Your productivity improves the quality of your work because you're better organized and you can see what needs to be done at a glance.John also enumerates tips and best practices on Time Management hacks. John also reminds us that we are not machines and still deserves to take a break even for a short period of time despite the hectic schedule. If You Are Ready to Recommit Yourself to Exercise, You Should: Create healthy metabolic habits by finding a way to hold yourself accountable Establish a base by trying different exercises that allow you to listen to your body Prioritize strength training and reaching muscular fatigue rather than burnout As women, we have been conditioned to believe that the harder and longer we work out, the better results and metabolism we'll get. While regular movement is critical for our heart, bones, brain, metabolism, hormones, and muscle, it is about the type of exercise and the length of time that really make a difference. Flipping 50 With Debra Atkinson Debra Atkinson has helped over 200,000 women “flip” their second half with the vitality and energy they want. A wellness coach, hormone balancing expert, and the founder of Flipping 50, Debra is passionate about helping both women and men get metabolically fit through methods they enjoy and provide powerful lifestyle changes. With her 37-years of full-time fitness experience, she is an expert at helping women in menopause take back control of their bodies. Recommitting Yourself to Exercise Many of us have found our exercise routines plateauing and our waistlines getting bigger throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed about if you can relate to this feeling and want to recommit yourself to your exercise routine.  But did you know that it can take as little as 20 minutes a day of strength training to see the metabolic recovery you have been searching for? Debra's approach is all about exercising smarter, not harder so that you can master your metabolism and get your fitness working for you. Get More Out of Your Workouts for Less Burning your mind and body out through exercise will never support your body in the way it needs to be supported. By focusing your workouts on achieving muscle fatigue, rather than the number of reps or minutes you spend at a machine, you can increase your metabolic rate and give your body the rest and recovery it needs to thrive. While exercise is vital for women of every age, it is especially important to have a tailor-made plan to set your body up for success during perimenopause, menopause, and beyond. By checking in with yourself, stopping overdoing it, and learning what is not working for your body, you can get more bang for your buck when it comes to your workouts and health. Are you ready to reset, get back on the saddle, and create a plan to benefit your metabolism and your hormones? Share what accountability tools you are going to use, like the 10 Day Hot, Not Bothered Challenge, to get moving again with me in the comments on the episode page.   Quotes: “Accountability is the number one reason people hire personal trainers and health coaches. And don't throw that under the bus, or think you shouldn't need to do that, because that is worth everything. That is priceless; we all  need that.” (15:15) “For a lot of people, getting moving first with strength training can be far easier. Not having to have that severe discomfort of getting breathless. And often, if you are not drawn to integral training or cardiovascular exercise, you will probably be more inclined to have a better time and enjoy yourself a little bit more with strength training.” (21:54) “The moment that you are in right now is a huge opportunity. Because you have got a clean slate, and you can get started.” (23:32) “Any mode of exercise can fit that bill, but the key is that you love it.” (26:04) “I am asked this a lot, how long should my strength training workout be? And the bigger point is, let's reach muscular fatigue and get a quality workout. It is not necessarily about the minutes.” (29:17) “Rest and recovery are very important, and the rest in-between is as important as the actual exercise.” (31:04)   In This Episode How the pandemic has impacted our weight, stress, inflammation, fitness, and more (6:58) What you can do to keep your healthy metabolic habits in place during the pandemic (13:44) Ways that strength training can stabilize your blood sugar and alleviate your anxiety and depression (20:25) The best plan of action to get back into your routine and rebound from the past year (23:14) Why cardio is not the best way to burn fat or achieve weight loss (31:59)   Resources Mentioned: 10 Day Hot, Not Bothered Challenge Flipping Fifty Website Follow Flipping Fifty on Instagram | Facebook | Twitter | YouTube Follow Debra on LinkedIn   Other Resources: Check out the full show notes page Keep up with everything Dr. Mariza Follow Dr. Mariza on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter | Youtube Podcast production & marketing support by the team at Counterweight Creative   Related Episodes:  Essentialy You episode #279: The Secret to Gliding, Not Slamming, Into Perimenopause and Beyond with Dr. Lakeischa, MD Essentially You episode #213: What Is the Right Exercise If You Are Dealing with Hormone Issues?  Essentially You episode #208: How Exercise Can Either Boost Your Metabolism or Damage It at Age 40+ with Debra Atkinson

How to Reclaim Control Over Your Work/Life Balance

Vision to Thrive

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 26, 2020 15:50

Today’s episode is an open invitation to you to reclaim control over your life. I am talking about putting yourself on the list, and showing up for you.  Are you ready to get off the Corona Coaster? To ditch the idea that you can have your work, or your family, but you can’t have both? It has been a stressful, overwhelming last 4 months for moms, and in particular, working moms. It’s about to get dicey again with the back to school transition. Virtual school, hybrid school, homeschool - all of it comes with uncertainty and overwhelm. How much easier would it be to tackle these challenges with a group of like minded, supportive women to share best practices and encouragement, and a trusted guide by your side?    Over the past 12 weeks, I have had the honor of coaching 11 women in a small group, high touch program called Aligned & Balanced. It has been life changing for me to watch them transform their lives. Not because I have any answers. Not because there is a secret system that’s one size fits all.  Not because it’s easy. But because each member was willing to show up for herself, reflect inward, dream outward, and support and encourage each member of the group without judgment.     We are facing another gigantic transition in our work and family lives with school starting back for many of us in August. Some believe it’s the official death of the working mom, but I beg to differ.  Aligned & Balanced offers a positive and uplifting program trusting your intuition, developing new systems that help you get more out of your day, and setting new boundaries to stay focused on what matters most to you.    I am now opening a NEW 4 week Aligned & Balanced small coaching group program to meet your needs. Only 12 spots will be available - first come, first served. We will meet via Zoom 1 hour per week (all calls will be recorded), you will receive specially curated course materials to work on at your convenience, and you will be a part of a private Facebook community for encouragement and support.  Topics will include: Demystifying Work/Life Balance (sshh! It never really existed and 2020 is truly the death of it!), How to Get More Out of Your Day, Finding Your Purpose, Give Yourself a Little Grace, Consistent Self Care = A Healthier Lifestyle, Letting Go of Pleasing People, and so much more!    Don’t take my word for it! Here is what current Aligned & Balanced small group members are saying…   “The Aligned and Balanced small group coaching program has been a very challenging yet rewarding program.  Andrea’s coaching and course work materials have helped me take a deep dive into key areas of my business and personal life.  The small group community is an amazing way to be real and to learn and grow with like minded women.  I highly recommend Andrea’s coaching for anyone looking to grow in their personal and professional lives. “Working with Andrea has been an absolute revelation! Her skills as a leader are evident during each group meeting.  She always captures each member’s sentiments, concerns and brings it full circle by validating our feelings and asking us how we’re going to handle going forward.” -Jen H. “Prior to starting the Aligned & Balanced small group coaching program, I was adrift. I was going in so many different directions and accomplishing very little in my personal life. Business had taken over! There was no joy. Being a part of our small group has helped me realize that self-care is imperative to personal success. And, without personal success (in my case, making the time for self-care throughout the day), all the success in business means nothing. In speaking with Andrea one-on-one, I realized with her help that I was truly “empty”. I had lost sight of “me”. I was just going through the motions. Now, I stand firm in my resolve to take care of myself—physically, mentally, spiritually.  Tiny steps taken every day over the course of the last couple of weeks have truly led to big results!” -Tammy B. “Andrea has found her calling...she is an amazing coach who has helped me in both group and personalized sessions learn how to put myself back on my priority list and helped guide me through some complex issues in my professional life in a corporate setting.  Her approach is tailored to what you need.  The group sessions have been rewarding as well.  Hearing from other women, from various backgrounds, has been so meaningful.  It’s made me realize I’m not alone in the struggle to achieve work-life balance.” -Jen K. Email me at andrea@andreaseeney.com to get started on your own journey.  Aligned & Balanced is designed to be a 12 week coaching program, with a minimum 4 week commitment to begin.  We will begin the week of August 10. I can’t wait to chat with you!    Subscribe, Rate and Review Vision to Thrive on Apple Podcasts today! I’d be honored to be reviewed by you! This is EPISODE #55 with Torsten Nicolini. You can watch this interview on YouTube here. Welcome to the Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning podcast, my name is Andrea Samadi, I’m a former educator whose been fascinated with understanding the science behind high performance strategies in schools, sports and the workplace and created this podcast to bring the most current neuroscience research, along with high performing experts who have risen to the top of their field with specific strategies or ideas that you can implement immediately, whether you are a teacher or student in the classroom, or working in the corporate world, to take your results to the next level. Thanks for tuning into the podcast today! If this is your first time here, I am so grateful that you have taken the time to listen. I can’t wait to introduce you to our guest today,  Torsten Nicolini[i] a Strategy Coach whose joining us today all the way from Germany. who has devoted his life to helping small business owners fulfill their greatest potential by teaching them how to become more successful at work and in life. I first met Torsten last summer 2019 when he contacted me to review his book called Work Smart in One Day: How to Be More Effective at Work and Get More Out of Your Life by James Barrett [ii] (Torsten's pen name) and I get asked to review a lot of books (I must be on a list somewhere because I do get at least a request each week) and I usually just delete the requests because I don’t have the time, but this time, the title caught my attention because I had launched this podcast and had been researching workplace productivity extensively for the past year. When I read Torsten’s "Work Smart in One Day" it felt like a compilation of the most effective productivity strategies, all in one place. Some history, in the late 1990s, I worked in the motivational speaking industry, and worked closely with some of the leading motivational speakers in the world.  Of course I had access to all of their books and content that I read extensively. As I read through Torsten’s book, the great speakers of the past echoed in my head as I could see who influenced him, and the strategies in his book were spot on. He's organized them in a way that ANYONE can improve their productivity, and I can tell that he must also operate this way, with the detail of his examples.  I reviewed his book that day, and I remember exactly where I was at the time, on a family vacation at a local resort, and I refused to leave the room until I finished his book and review, it was that captivating.A bit about Torsten:- he is currently working "fulltime" as an engineer at an automotive supplier since 2015 (Yazaki)- he accomplished an apprenticeship as a toolmaker in 2009, technician in 2013, Bachelor of Engineering in 2018 an currently studying "part-time" Masters of Enginering that I will finish 2021.- he started to learn about personal development in 2017 (now age of 32) and with this "initiator" I launched a side business in marketing and webdesign, started a blog and different projects for small business owners (website re-design, marketing, etc.)- Since 2018 I am really loving to create content, to write articles and now publishing books. As many of us are in the middle of figuring out how to work from home,  and might be  looking for new ways to work with some key strategies for better productivity, I thought I would ask Torsten to come on the podcast to share more about his website, the books he is reading and strategies for productivity.  Q1: What are Highly Efficient People Doing Better than the Average Person (and how do they manage tasks be increased productivity)Q2: What are some New Habits That Go a Long Way (making you think about a morning routine, if you've not got one already) Q3: How do you eliminate What's Pulling You Down (identify what is stealing your energy) Q4: What are some Tips for Maintaining Your Success (so that it continues all year)Q5: Anything else you think is important that I might have missed to help people during this time to be more productive. If someone wants to contact you, what’s the best place? If you've ever wanted do more, be more, reach for your dreams, or simply feel better about your job, then do we have the go-giver show for you! Today I'll be speaking with John David Mann, entrepreneur and award-winning co-author of numerous NYT best-sellers including Flash Foresight and The Red Circle, and a paradigm busting new favorite of mine…well, two really, The Go-Giver, and the Go-Giver Leader. It's not often a book comes along today that shakes me to the core. But particularly as we're asking, who do we want to be when we grow up, here at Inspire Nation, or how do we take things to a whole new level, that these books are incredibly important. Today we'll talk about taking your life to a whole new level, dream big, reaching your dreams, and achieving what you once thought impossible, but through a completely different direction, and ironically, plan of attack, then you likely ever thought of. That plus we'll talk about the power of muddy beginnings, a ping poing stadium, and why you DO want to let them see you sweat. Questions and Topics Include: How John started his own high school. How he started his own high school, and later went back and taught there as part of the faculty How he became a concert cellist, then became a composer, then went into natural health How he found his way to publishing and becoming a best-selling author How he began working with his co-author Bob Burke What's the power of visualization – and how it created a worldwide best-seller What happened when The Go-Giver came out. How the concept of a go-giver has come about, and why it's so accepted (and needed) today. Why ‘does it make money' is such a vital question And why we're not talking about taking a vow of poverty Why it's so important to make money as well. Why you want to ask about giving first, and then powerfully ask about monetizing a very close second. What is the second law of compensation (And what it has to do with Dr. Demartini and The Secret) Why your compensation is determined by how many people you touch How Clayton Anderson focused on helping others and was able to become an astronaut How Rodney Dangerfield reinvented himself before helping others which absolutely transformed his career. What are the 3 reasons to work How the lead characters in The Go-Giver and The Go-Giver Leader both found their callings and were so open to unfamiliar ideas How John didn't have time to write the Go-Giver, and yet, how he made time and it transformed his life…changing his business and career in the process! Why serving others can be your calling What John thinks of ‘Do What You Love and the Money will Follow' Why we need to say ‘how does this serve' and then ‘does this make me money' Why what's in the way is the way. Why 50/50 is a losing proposition Why you want to focus on the other person's win (especially important in relationships and marriage…not to mention friendships!) What's the danger of score-keeping and scorecards in relationships Why receiving is the natural state of giving Why we want to accept compliments (and don't get to refuse the gift) Why self-love is so important Why there's a limit to how much you can give if you don't allow yourself to receive it (like giving and receiving love, or giving and receiving wealth and money for that matter) Why Bob Proctor (from The Secret) is not talking about taking a vow of poverty (A main character in the book is based on Bobo Proctor from The Secret) How do we keep ourselves grounded What's the beauty of humility Why Stephen King says you ‘write the first draft with the door closed, the second draft with the door open') What are the four pillars of success and what's the importance of ‘soul'? Why it's all about giving leadership vs. taking leadership Why a go-getter is not the opposite of a go-giver.
