In this episode #GaleForceWins sat down with Captain Fred George to discuss his philosophy of public speaking and business communications. Captain Fred raises the bar for himself at every single opportunity and his creation of a $2.4 billion gold mining company is an example of that. Public speaking is no different and in one case Fred memorized the names of 29 graduates and thanked them by name with no notes and for that he received a standing ovation in the first 90 seconds of his speech. That is quite a feat. Before listening to this episode we recommend you watch these three videos first:1. Fred George Speech - Best Opening: https://youtu.be/patXt0AZ4K42. Potter Revisited Episode #28 Fragile Ego and Deep Delusions AKA Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Chapter 10 "The Rogue Bludger" It is a good thing exams were canceled this year - everyone is learning nothing in Lockhart's class Why does Lockhart single Harry out? Is it because he sees them as both being "celebrities" or that he wants to humiliate him? Hermione's crush and belief in Lockhart has her jumping through many hurdles - we discuss how it is in her character at this point We discuss Lockhart's ego and deluded fantasy he lives in, where he constantly makes himself look bad but doesn't or isn't able to comprehend it Shay has issues with how the trio are just given a dangerous and likely valuable book and able to take it from the safety of the library Dark!Hermione comes out when she convinces/manipulates Harry and Ron to continue with the plan The Slytherin VS Gryffindor Quidditch game is approaching and Oliver is going a bit over the top with the "win or die" pep talk Fred and George are very good team members, and have very good people skills Why did no one besides the Twins notice the Bludger focusing on Harry? Why didn't they tell Madame Hooch about the fixed Bludger? Would it really count as a forfeit? The Team, especially Fred & George ganging up on Oliver is so great Draco isn't really playing the game - it seems like he just joined the team to one up Harry and for attention Shay is very concerned about the medical negligence Lockhart commits "fixing" Harry's arm without his consent It is a big red flag that Lockhart is still employed after causing a medical injury to a student Madam Pomfrey is so over Dumbledore and his choices Malfoy gets his karma by being told off by Flint Dobby is exposed Dobby has the best intentions with the worst results Hearing about Dobby's punishments is very jarring as a adult than reading it as a child How does Dobby not touch clothes in his day to day job? Is Harry bringing up Hermione being Muggleborn foreshadowing Hermione being attacked later on? Colin is found Petrified by either McGonagall or Dumbledore - it is contradicted in the same page Is Dumbledore revealing this information knowing that Harry is listening? Wouldn't it be more likely for there to be more true heir of Slytherin's? Seems unlikely that their is only one (Tom Riddle) On off topic news, US Quidditch and Major League Quidditch changed their sport name to QuadBall and we discuss the implications and future of it Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Links: Muggle Quidditch Name Change https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2022/jul/20/quidditch-changes-name-to-quadball-after-jk-rowlings-trans-statements Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited

Potter Revisited Episode #26 How To Be A Ghost AKA Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Chapter 8 "The Deathday Party" We enter into Fall in CoS and it's Shay's favourite time of year We discuss the Pepperup potion and if we would take it We love the idea of Fred & George spying on Slytherin Shay wonders why no rich Gryffindors bought their team new brooms Oliver's training its getting progressively more intense We discuss Nick and the Headless Hunt Filch and Mrs Norris have a very strong connection - could it be magical? Filch is working while having the flu - does Dumbledore not give him sick days? Why did Dumbledore hire Filch? He always has some motive for his hires Tori wonders how Squibs work - do they have no magic, or some magic? Kwikspell sounds like a huge scam Interesting foreshadowing when Peeves knocks over the vanishing cabinet - which comes back to play in OOTP and HBP Nick basically manipulates Harry into agreeing to attend his Deathday Party Shay agrees the Deathday party is interesting but she would make sure to eat dinner before Interesting that Nick knows inviting Harry means also inviting Hermione and Ron We love this random passage of Fred and George feeding a firework to a Salamander We discuss the Deathday party - and Shay isn't a fan of the music choice We discuss Ghosts and the rules surrounding them and how they are governed We meet Moaning Myrtle and why no one seems to have done anything to help her Harry hears the voice after leaving the Deathday party - interesting that he is both scared but excited It really shows the faith and friendship Ron and Hermione have in Harry as they follow him despite not being able to hear the voice The trio stumble upton petrified Mrs Norris and the writing on the wall Shay discusses how scary this could be for children reading We begin a deep discussion on Ghosts in the Wizarding World and how they work How does one become a Ghost? Nick says it's a choice - is it forever? What about children that die? Shay wonders why Fred and others from the Battle of Hogwarts Why would once choice to become a ghost? Shay wonders why Voldemort never considered becoming a ghost Email any thoughts, questions or feedback to potterrevisitedpodcast@gmail.com Music: Shelter Song by Alexander Nakarada (www.serpentsoundstudios.com) Licensed under Creative Commons BY Attribution 4.0 License https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Follow Us: Facebook https://www.facebook.com/potterrevisited Twitter https://twitter.com/potterevisited Instagram https://www.instagram.com/potterrevisited_/ Youtube https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4v2Xt0OIQ8_LCVYhKf2S5A TikTok https://www.tiktok.com/@potterrevisited

Potter Revisited Episode #6 | Platform 9 and 6 Weasley's Aka Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Chapter 6 "The Journey From Platform 9¾” Harry is a Swell Guy We meet a lot of new characters and a few big names are dropped Harry finally sees this Dumbledore guy We love Harry and Ron's friendship Comparing Families: The Malfoys Vs. The Weasley's Transportation methods Was it wise to send Harry back to the Dursley's after everything? Were the Dursley's angry at Harry, or afraid of him? Was Molly asked to help Harry at the platform, or was it a coincidence? Dumbledore Chocolate Frog Conspiracy What if spells were like Fred & George's dud? Stephen Cresswell - mild mannered rebel anarchist. How does Brazilian jujitsu help understand Agile and Pair Programming? Are mainframes for real programmers? Is Pairing a Health and Safety issue? Are points proper estimates?Super experienced, Stephen Cresswell, is Deputy VP of Engineering TES Global and has been at the cutting edge of modern software development for years. He reflects on his slightly painful metamorphosis from traditional integrator to the XP practices he has mastered over the last decade and more. Stephen describes the power of TDD but also how one's ego needs to be managed when confronting something new, alien and seemingly wrong. His crash course in learning agile development in a creche of “rebels” on one of Network Rail's most successful projects is rooted in quality and delivery. From there he has trained companies such as Apple, coached Banks, managed teams and Co-Founded one of the UK's leading Software Consultancies.Stephen explains the practical judgements needed to balance and defend quality with real world challenges and time constraints. TC, Mel and Sam thoroughly dissect the strange threesome of the twins and Angelina Johnson. What made JK have her date one twin, then marry the other? Hmmm... Listen to find out. *** Spoilers, Adult Language, Adult Themes **** Music note: Tinder profile music is from "You Can Leave Your Hat On" by Joe Cocker, and the theme song uses a portion of "Modern Major General" from The Pirates of Penzance.
In this episode, Katie & Audrey celebrate (the day before) Fred & George's birthday (and April Fools' Day) by discussing everyone's favorite set of twins! We talk about the best (and worst) pranks the twins pulled off, what distinguishes Fred & George from each other, and whether or not they were bullies. In this podcast Shane Hastie, Lead Editor for Culture & Methods, spoke to Fred George about the need to solve “fuzzy problems” and approaches to doing so. Why listen to this podcast: • Fuzzy problems are ones which don’t have precise answers but they are the places where most money is being made in the modern economy • Applying the thinking that works for traditional problems to fuzzy problems causes frustration because the underlying assumption that the problem will have a single solution is wrong • The rules for solving fuzzy problems are related to the speed of trying out ideas and learning rather and so competitive advantage accrues to fast delivery • Most organisations have a mix of traditional and fuzzy problems – segregate the teams and use the appropriate approach for the problem type • If you’re doing agile the same way in all your teams you’re probably not doing agile anymore More on this: Quick scan our curated show notes on InfoQ https://bit.ly/2J1xBpg You can also subscribe to the InfoQ newsletter to receive weekly updates on the hottest topics from professional software development. bit.ly/24x3IVq Subscribe: www.youtube.com/infoq Like InfoQ on Facebook: bit.ly/2jmlyG8 Follow on Twitter: twitter.com/InfoQ Follow on LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/infoq Check the landing page on InfoQ: https://bit.ly/2J1xBpg
We have a look at Jason Palmer's "You Don't Need Standup" with a mutual learning, curious attitude. What can we learn from Jason? What information does he have that we don't? Where do we agree with him? We conclude that indeed some teams may be better off without standups - see Fred George's Programmer Anarchy for example - but before embarking on the experiment, it's worth asking "how will I know if it's working or not?" Software teams are traditionally composed of roles such as project manager, developer, QA, and manager. What happens if you throw out all of those titles, hire mostly engineers, and ask them to do whatever they think is best? That is the core idea behind Fred George’s idea of Developer Anarchy. In today’s episode, David Curry The post Developer Roles with Dave Curry and Fred George appeared first on Software Engineering Daily.
Fred George brings the concept of "managerless processes" to the Agile Alliance Technical Conference 2016 with his session on "Programmer Anarchy". At the heart of it the idea that if you replace traditional roles like QA and BA with more programmers, you create an environment when the dev team can work with the customer at a higher (than user story) level, create much more code, experiment in live environments, fail fast and learn how to better the product. He shares that, at a recent client, "we were deploying something new into production every three and a half minutes." The key was fast failures: if the release failed to reach certain targets, it was pulled down and iterated upon before it was redeployed to gather more real-time data. Fred George is an industry consultant, and has been writing code for over 46 years in (by his count) over 70 languages. He started ThoughtWorks University in Bangalore, India, based on a commercial programming training program he developed in the 90s. SolutionsIQ's Neville Poole hosts. While at Øredev in Malmö, Sweden, Carl and Richard talk to Fred George about implementing programmer anarchy in your organization. This is the good form of anarchy - the kind that focuses on self-organization, rather than blowing things up. Fred talks about the roles of management in software, and which ones make sense and which one don't... and how developers can take over those roles in conjunction with development.
