If you don't know who Me First & The Gimmes are by now, then you either have little taste in music and/or a sense of adventure, or you don't listen to music at all.If you have been figuratively touched by these fun loving punk reprobates then you will already know that the band only recently visited these shores on a blitzkrieg tour, and you will also likely not be surprised to hear that everybody's favourite punk covers band are about to board the plane from the U.S of A for a return visit dubbed The Band Of The Long Weekend Tour.Except it goes for more like two weeks.Armed with their latest release - a tribute to the late Billy Thorpe with Most People I Know - Me First & The Gimmes are set to once more decimate Australian crowds, and, according to frontman Spike Slawson, can't wait to experience our good old Australian hospitality once more. With less than seven days to the first Brisbane show on October 30, we start by asking if he is packed and ready to go."Getting there," he smiled. "I always leave it to the last minute, but we're getting there. Preparing ourselves mentally and emotionally and infrastructurally it's always a challenge, but somehow we always make do. And the flight keeps getting shorter and shorter! I think they hit some kind of slipstream or… I dunno."Talk turns to the name of the tour and the fact that Me First & The Gimmes are anything but predictable, both as people and in the sonic realm."We like to put our fans and facilitators at a disadvantage," he joked. "I think it's… it's not a strategic thing as much as it is just a sort of troll. Our shows are an hour and a half long troll and at first we try to set the bar high for ourselves by really alienating our potential allies until the point where they are actually expressing their displeasure audibly. Booing. We like to bring them to about that point before we start to reel them back in. When it really kicked in was recently - two or three years ago - and it was still during lockdown so it was a crazy tour, but we were on a bill with the Violent Femmes and Flogging Molly as well as a band from New York called Thick. All the other bands played originals, or at least mostly originals, so, as with most bands that play originals, they are the heroes of their own stories. They're very earnest, and they're very serious about their music. They may be smiling but it's a serious moment they're sharing with you. Whereas for us, we understood right off the bat that we were the heels of the bill. Just as we are the heels of any bill that we're on. Interestingly enough, the nights when you alienate the crowd the most, those are the nights where you end up selling the most t-shirts. Isn't that funny?"In the full interview, Spike reminisced about their previous performances in Australia and their upcoming return. He expressed his love for classical pop music and punk music, particularly the Ramones and the Buzzcocks, revealing that his band's covers would likely come from outsider pop or weirdo pop, which was prevalent in the 1970s. He also discussed his admiration for the music of the 1970s, despite its sometimes jarring themes. We spoke about support band, Dwarves, and how this coming tour will differ from recent shows, places where Me First & The Gimme Gimmes WOULDN'T play and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

"That's good." Ah, but is it? In this episode, Greg, Lou, and Mark discuss what turns out to be a vast chasm of golf culture: whether gimmes and mulligans are a part of golf. The guys talk about the ways in which gimmes were treated in their early years in golf and how they work in social games—and when people take them for their handicap rounds. There are very real dangers and temptations as we sojourn through this world. Paul warns us from Israel's wilderness wanderings that there are "No Gimmes" and "No Excuses." Yet, there is hope for sinners - God is faithful! This is the good news that forms our identity in Christ and gives us motivation to eagerly pursue him.

Did you know if your ball lies on the green, and is no more than five feet from the hole, there is a Rule of Handicapping that allows you to pick it up and add a stroke to your score? In this week's From the Clubhouse podcast, in association with TaylorMade Golf, Steve Carroll and Tom Irwin delve deeper into the concept of 'most likely score', which can be used when a hole is started but a player does not hole out. They consider how it's employed in match play and fourball formats, Tom talks about his experience of it dominating golf in the USA and the pair consider if we ever might see it come into force in the UK. Elsewhere, the duo look back over events at St Andrews where a bit of paving close to the historic Swilcan Bridge sent social media into meltdown, and brought an ultra-quick about-turn, and Steve gets a dressing down from Tom for his post hole-in-one etiquette. Was he wrong to not get the drinks in when he had an ace? It's bound to be controversial and, as always, we'd love to hear your views!

Interview by Erin EddyAnyone who is a fan of the SoCal skater punk scene of the 90's will know the name Joey Cape and if you don't know his name then you definitely know his voice; a distinct vocal style that makes Lagwagon instantly recognisable. Or you may be more of a Bad Astronaut fan. Either way, Joey is a veteran of the punk scene, and his bands have earnt their place as staples of the genre. It's been a long time between visits to Australia for the punk rock legend, so in early 2023 he's making up for lost time. Not only will Joey be touring with another of his projects, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, he's slotting in a bunch of solo shows around the country while he's here, also.Joey takes care of guitar duties for Me First And The Gimme Gimmes, a long standing favourite amongst the skater punk community for their fun, fast and ferocious covers that put a punk spin on popular songs. The Gimmes are a band comprised of notable musicians synonymous with the genre (just don't use the term ‘super group' if you don't want to cause an eye roll response in Mr Cape, as HEAVY learned!), including but never limited to Fat Mike of NOFX, Spike Slawson of Swingin' Utters and Dave Raun, of Lagwagon. The Australian leg of the 2023 tour for Me First And The Gimme Gimmes is one of thoserescheduled-from-forever-ago post-Covid jobs. What this means for us is the added bonus of now having Joey Cape solo shows at our disposal. Joey told HEAVY that he spent a “dangerous amount of time” in lockdown on his own, which he maintains was actually beneficial to him once he got past the confusion of it all. It allowed him time to pursue a bunch of things he otherwise wouldn't have turned his hand to, but ultimately when he needed healing, it was music that he turned to.Joey's solo record A Good Year To Forget is aptly titled for a record cataloguing one's experience of 2020, yet also something of a juxtaposition in that the healing power of music incites you to reflect back on it with some fondness, for it sure did teach us all a bunch of things about ourselves.HEAVY spoke with Joey about getting through the trying times of the pandemic, his various musical projects and what he plans on getting up to in Australia. For Joey, not only was 2020 a year of illness (Joey himself contracted Covid and spent a gruelling period of time hospitalised), lockdowns and mandates, but a year in which he lost a parent and experienced the end of a 20 year marriage. A Good Year To Forget is his diary of catharsis and he will be taking these songs to stages for intimate shows across Australia in between shows with the Gimmes from January 31 st , 2023.

Possibly the most classic adjustment across all of tastytrade is to roll the untested side - so what are we getting and what are we giving up when we do this? Generally speaking, rolling the untested side reduces your overall risk in the position, but it does expose you to a potential whipsaw, if the stock reverses back quickly. However, because our main priority with undefined-risk strategies is to reduce risk first, rolling the untested side when the time calls for it is our go-to move.

As premium selling tastytraders, we're always thankful for an IV expansion. More IV means higher IVRs Implied Volatility Ranks, which means better entry points for new trades. This same IV expansion, however, does have a negative effect on our current positions. As we're most likely to be short vega with our current short premium portfolio, increasing volatility is going to act as a drag on those existing positions.

I recently had the chance to sit down with front-man and lead singer of the Punk-Rock super group Me First and The Gimme Gimme's, Spike Slawson. Spike's candor and honestly were brought to the forefront. We had a great conversation ranging from how a musician can make a living to how The Eagles and The Gimmes have a mutual dislike for one another, (which I found very entertaining.) The Gimmies are a cover band that recreates hits from all different genres ranging from the 60's and 70's oldies to R&B classics. Each album they release focuses on a different genre of music that they infuse with punk-rock. The Gimmes are sort of an all-star band consisting of four different bands. Joey Cape, Dave Raun from the band Lagwagon, Mike Burkette (Aka Fat Mike) from NOFX, Spike Slawson formerly from the Swingin' Utters, and finally Chris Shiflette from The Foo Fighters. Our interview was recorded in the back office of a venue in Scottsdale, Arizona where the Gimmes were playing that night. Please pardon the sound quality on parts of the interview since they were doing a sound check during the interview. I hope you enjoy the interview as much as I did! The Rules of Acquisition: A Star Trek Deep Space Nine Podcast
Deep Space Nine futures back to the past! 8 years from now! We jump right back into Past Tense, this time right into the Bell Riots themselves with part two! Is this as hollow and facile an investigation of society's problems as James and Hugh say, or do the Ghosts, Gimmes, and Dims of 2024 have a valuable lesson to teach us in 2017? Something that shines through this Very Special Episode about homelessness in 1994? James doesn't get ghosts. Hugh really hates baby boomers' fetishization of the 60's. Reconciling Star Trek's timeline vs ours: Baseball included! Sexy Halloween Thomas Jefferson costumes! Violent protests and the timelines for change. Wade makes some obscure D&D references. Rance Howard, we hardly know ye. Were we too hard on this oh-so-topical two parter? Voicemails are all Past Tense focused this week, as we thought we could "address the controversy." We field calls from @10rant and a mysterious, handsome stranger. James talks about what liberals can do with their art. Can you spot the David Foster Wallace reference?
Pedro is back this week and we lose our minds. Consider yourself a fly on the wall as you listen to a bunch of lunatics talk about Into the Woods, Deadpool movie, SNL 40 Anniversary show and so much more. We also cover some "Gimmes" or try to and of course we discuss the recent episode of The Walking Dead Episode Breakdown: Intro: 0m ...DUH Gimme: 57m 54 second TWD: 1h 24m 35seconds Ending Song: 311- Beautiful Disaster Articles discussed can be found: www.MoviePilot.com
Darius Koski from Swingin' Utters is today's guest, with special appearances from Chris "Big Bitch" Flippin, Joe Raposo and Joey Cape from Lagwagon! The interview devolves into a fun chat with Darius and Lagwagon about their first alcoholic drinks and malt liquor!
JOEY CAPE (Lagwagon, Me First And The Gimme Gimmes), CHRIS CRESSWELL (The Flatliners), BRIAN WAHLSTROM (Scorpios) and Serina Chang hang out at the Walnut Room in Denver, Colorado to discuss German humor, Barry Manilow, Competitive Whistling, First musical loves and the ONE WEEK RECORDS label and tour! The episode ends with a live recording of the One Week Records gang playing, "International You Day," by Tony Sly and No Use For a Name.
This podcast, I suppose I am going to have to accept from the start, really isn't going to be for everyone, is it. There is plenty of music in here, but not all that much which would make it onto a regular Toadcast. Mixed in with those few more traditional tunes is a little musical comedy, a genre with which I have a very patchy relationship indeed, and also some outright stand-up. It's the Edinburgh Festival and some friends and I were talking about how we generally avoid the whole boiling pot of shit, but that there were some comedians we would make an effort to see nevertheless. Because, with the exception of Stewart Lee, I don't have any of their stuff this isn't about people I may or may not see here in August just some stuff by comedians I happen to a/ like and b/ happen to have handy (because I am lazy). So it may not be the usual cutting edge hipster tunefest, but it's still a very good podcast if you're into this sort of shit. Plus it's a nice change. So deal with it.01.
