Tune in here to this Friday’s edition of the Brett Winterble Show! We're joined by Michael Whatley NC Senate candidate to discuss growing controversy surrounding the release of thousands of inmates during the COVID era under former Governor Roy Cooper. Whatley criticizes the decision to release roughly 3,500 prisoners, arguing the move endangered public safety and led to repeat offenses, including violent crimes and murders allegedly committed by some released inmates. The conversation focuses on concerns over transparency, accountability, and the long-term consequences of pandemic-era criminal justice policies in North Carolina. Brett and Whatley also discuss claims that many of the released inmates had serious criminal histories, including violent offenses and crimes against children. The interview highlights broader debates over bail reform, crime policy, law enforcement support, and public frustration with what critics describe as a revolving-door justice system that prioritizes offenders over victims and communities. Tune in here to this Monday's edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the program by talking about rising tensions in the Middle East and growing concerns over global instability. He frames the escalation involving Iran as part of a long-standing pattern of conflict, arguing that unconventional warfare and regional disruptions—like threats to oil infrastructure and activity near the Strait of Hormuz—are likely to გაგრძელ over time. Brett suggests the situation may stretch into the fall, tying geopolitical strategy to U.S. domestic politics and the upcoming midterm elections. Later Brett turns his focus to former North Carolina governor Roy Cooper, criticizing what he describes as a pattern of avoiding direct questions from reporters in public settings. He highlights repeated attempts by journalists to ask about early prisoner releases during Cooper’s administration, including cases involving serious crimes, and argues that the lack of response creates frustration and fuels public concern. Are political words just words—or are they shaping real-world consequences? Tara breaks down the escalating rhetoric, media framing, and the dangerous feedback loop between messaging and action. ⚡ EPISODE SUMMARY In today's episode, Tara digs into how political rhetoric is escalating across media and leadership circles—and why it matters more than ever. From commentary surrounding Donald Trump to statements made by figures like Roy Cooper, Stacey Abrams, and Kamala Harris, the episode explores how language like “threat,” “dictator,” and “authoritarian” is shaping public perception. Tara also examines the role of influencers such as Hasan Piker and how rhetoric from both political figures and media personalities can contribute to heightened tensions. The episode raises a critical question: when repeated messaging paints opponents as existential threats, does it risk pushing unstable individuals toward extreme actions? This is a deep dive into narrative-building, media responsibility, and the real-world impact of political discourse.
Tara breaks down the escalating rhetoric surrounding President Trump, exposing what she calls a dangerous “double standard” in media and politics. From late-night comedy to campaign trails, she connects the dots between language, influence, and real-world consequences—arguing that words matter more than ever in today's political climate. ⚡ EPISODE SUMMARY In this episode, Tara dives deep into what she describes as a coordinated pattern: inflammatory rhetoric on one side paired with justification from political leadership on the other. She highlights commentary from figures like Jimmy Kimmel and political voices including Kamala Harris, Stacey Abrams, and Roy Cooper—arguing that repeated framing of Donald Trump as a “threat” or “tyrant” contributes to a broader narrative. Tara also examines how messaging, media coverage, and selective outrage shape public perception—and asks whether the rules are being applied equally across political lines.

No world news development of the past few weeks has commanded more attention or spurred greater controversy than President Donald Trump's decision to go to war with Iran. And while, at this point, the ultimate outcome of the war remains very much in question, the war is drawing very high degrees of skepticism from North Carolinians of all political persuasions – especially Independents and Democratic voters. Now add to this the largely negative view that most North Carolinians hold right now about the economy and the president's performance in managing it, and it's no surprise that his overall approval ratings have plummeted. So where exactly do things stand, how does this compare to past public attitudes on foreign wars, and what's likely to be the key driver of public opinion during the 2026 election cycle? Recently, Newsline sat down with the director of the Elon University Poll, Prof. Jason Husser, to find out. In Part One of my recent sit down with Elon University pollster and political scientist, Prof. Jason Husser, we discussed his most recent public opinion surveys and what they say about how North Carolinians view the Trump presidency – and why deep-seated skepticism about the war in Iran and the state of the economy are likely to present big problems for the president and his party in the fall elections. In Part Two of our conversation, we turned our attention to North Carolina politics and policy matters, including the fall U.S. Senate race between former Gov. Roy Cooper and challenger Michael Whatley, approval ratings for Gov. Josh Stein, and what North Carolinians are thinking about some high-profile issues, like concealed weapons and the rising costs of health care. Donald Trump is so enamored of his White House ballroom pet project that he talks about it every chance he gets, regardless of the setting. Sometimes it seems like he wishes Americans would be as distracted by it as he is. But now a judge has put a halt to the project, reminding Trump that he is a steward of the White House, not the owner, and requiring him to get approval from Congress first. Donald Trump has no idea how to fix the mess he has made with his attack on Iran, and now it seems he may not even try and may instead dump the challenge of re-opening the Strait of Hormuz on them. At the same time, several European allies are not allowing the U.S. to use their facilities or even cross their airspace in connection with Trump's war. Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling (ret.), former commanding general of the U.S. Army, Europe, and Michael McFaul, former U.S. ambassador to Russia discuss. Donald Trump was aleady unpopular with Americans before he started his random war with Iran, and now with the cost of living made even more difficult with soaring gas prices, Trump's approval is cratering. Former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Democratic candidate for Senate, joins to discuss. Rep. Eric Swall joins to discuss pushing back on Trump's bullying, and the effort to hold Trump accountable for January 6 even as Trump has pardoned all of his faithful rioters from that day. Tune in here to this Tuesday's edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the program by talking about invasive species and oversized spiders creeping into everyday life. He zeroes in on the growing spread of the Joro spider, a brightly colored arachnid that can grow as large as a human hand and has already been spotted across multiple states, including North Carolina and Georgia. With a mix of humor and genuine alarm, Brett describes how these spiders travel using a method called “ballooning,” allowing them to drift through the air and expand their reach. We’re joined by Michael Whatley from Republican National Committee to talk about election integrity and national security priorities. The conversation centers on the ongoing debate over voter ID laws and the SAVE Act, with Whatley arguing that widespread public support contrasts sharply with Democratic opposition. He also criticizes Roy Cooper over past vetoes and criminal justice decisions, framing them as out of step with North Carolina voters. Bo Thompson from Good Morning BT is also here for this lively episode of Crossing the Streams. Brett and Bo talk about March Madness brackets and global tensions involving Iran. Bo shares how his bracket is still hanging on, despite a few busted picks, while highlighting the fun competition among his co-hosts. The conversation then shifts to geopolitics, where they break down the market reactions and uncertainty surrounding statements from Donald Trump and potential diplomatic developments. Bo also reflects on recent travel experiences, noting smooth flights despite broader concerns about airport delays and disruptions. He also shares what he and his team have coming up next on Good Morning BT, including local political developments, the latest on Hubert Davis at University of North Carolina, and a special guest appearance from Jamie Valvano. An especially noteworthy 2026 primary election has come and gone, and there were a lot of important and high-profile outcomes – some expected and some surprising. Topping the list of predicted results were the outcomes in the Democratic and Republican U.S. Senate primaries, where former Gov. Roy Cooper and GOP party official Michael Whatley cruised to easy wins and are now set for what all expect to be an expensive November showdown. Interestingly, however, despite its national importance, the Senate primaries were partially overshadowed by a Republican primary in a state Senate race in which longtime Senate leader Phil Berger and Rockingham County Sheriff Sam Page are headed for a recount. NC Newsline caught up with Western Carolina University political science professor Chris Cooper to review these and other results. Click here to listen to the full interview with Western Carolina University political science professor Chris Cooper.

This week's Substack LIVE conversation with Chris Cillizza is a dive explainer on what happened in the Texas primary elections. Here's what Chris and Matt discuss:— Texas primary election results 2026: James Talarico defeats Jasmine Crockett in the Democratic U.S. Senate primary, while John Cornyn and Ken Paxton head to a brutal May 26 runoff— Republican civil war ahead: $100M+ already spent, more bloodletting coming — is Paxton the nightmare nominee for GOP, or can Cornyn pull off the comeback with Trump help?— A big trend? Tune in here to this Wednesday's edition of the Brett Winterble Show! Brett kicks off the program joined by John Stewart from the North Carolina political arena to talk about the statewide Senate race and the stunning shakeups in the General Assembly. The two dive straight into the U.S. Senate contest, breaking down Michael Whatley’s commanding primary performance and the looming general election battle against Governor Roy Cooper. Stewart argues that despite Cooper’s decades of statewide victories, a narrow early polling margin should raise eyebrows and signals a far more competitive race than many expected. The conversation then turns to major legislative surprises, including a wave of incumbent losses and the razor-thin outcome in the race involving longtime Senate leader Phil Berger. Stewart highlights the historic implications of Berger’s potential defeat, calling it one of the biggest political upsets North Carolina has seen in decades. Together, Brett and Stewart analyze what these results mean for power dynamics in Raleigh and the political battles ahead. Listen here for all of this and more on The Brett Winterble Show! This episode is presented by Create A Video – You can tell this is a bad issue for Roy Cooper and his run for US Senate because of the massive pushback of whataboutisms from the online Left trying to distract from the fact that Cooper released thousands of criminals from prisons during the pandemic. This episode is presented by Create A Video – The list of 3,500 prisoners released by former Governor Roy Cooper remains a secret - despite the revelation that the man who murdered Iryna Zarutska was on the list. It's just another example of how Cooper (now a candidate for US Senate) placates the most radical elements of the Democrat base while pretending to be a moderate. Meet my friends, Clay Travis and Buck Sexton! If you love Verdict, the Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show might also be in your audio wheelhouse. Politics, news analysis, and some pop culture and comedy thrown in too. Here’s a sample episode recapping four takeaways. Give the guys a listen and then follow and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. Follow the Epstein Money The Epstein Transparency Act, which passed unanimously in the Senate after near-unanimous House approval. Buck breaks down what this means: once President Trump signs the bill, the Justice Department will have 30 days to release Jeffrey Epstein-related files. The discussion explores whether these disclosures will provide real answers or lead to further demands for transparency. Buck emphasizes the unanswered question of Epstein’s billion-dollar fortune and the suspicious financial transactions flagged by JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank. He argues that following the money is key to uncovering the truth. Clay Calls in from Italy Clay calls from Rome and shares details of his mission: delivering an invitation for the Pope to throw out the first pitch at a future Chicago White Sox game, a unique gesture tied to the team’s new ownership and stadium plans. This segment blends sports, faith, and global intrigue, making it a must-hear for fans of both baseball and world affairs. A Critical Race in NC Buck welcomes Michael Whatley, former RNC Chair and current candidate for U.S. Senate in North Carolina. Whatley details the fallout from Governor Roy Cooper’s veto of legislation requiring sheriffs to honor ICE detainers, which has led to a surge in illegal immigration and crime. They discuss shocking statistics, including 21,000 students absent from Charlotte schools in one day due to immigration enforcement fears, and over 200 arrests of criminal illegal aliens in recent ICE operations. Whatley warns of the massive financial burden on state resources—from Medicaid to education—and contrasts his tough-on-crime stance with Cooper’s record of vetoing tax cuts, police pay raises, and bills protecting women’s sports. He predicts the North Carolina Senate race will be the most expensive in U.S. history, with Democrats pouring in hundreds of millions to flip the seat. The Misled Boss Babes Buck dives into a Pew Research study on marriage trends among Gen Z, revealing that only 61% of 12th-grade girls want to marry compared to 74% of boys. He critiques cultural messaging that promotes “boss babe” ideology and hookup culture, arguing it misleads young women and undermines long-term happiness. Buck contrasts this with a resurgence of traditional values among young men, who increasingly reject toxic masculinity narratives and embrace leadership, family, and faith. He calls for a cultural reset that prioritizes stable family formation and meaningful relationships over superficial social media-driven dating norms.
