It's not. Life is too short to make it all about our job.” “You're gonna have to do things that sometimes don't feel good to get what you really want.” "The idea is that it's not about trying to “fix it.” It's about how do I get beyond it? Ronald Reagan was the most consequential U.S. president of the second half of the twentieth century. Conservatives once lionized him before the rise of Donald Trump. Yet how Reagan is remembered does not entirely square with his actual record. Although an anti-government, anti-Communist ideologue, Reagan governed like a pragmatist. Moreover, the fortieth president was a terrible manager with a flimsy grasp of policy. His administration was rife with scandal. When he left office, the federal deficit had nearly tripled. Despite it all, Reagan was an effective national leader who inspired Americans to feel proud of their country again. In this episode, historian and biographer Max Boot delves into the life and times of "The Great Communicator" whose Hollywood and television careers prepared him for political success. https://www.nationalreview.com/corner/kamala-harris-the-sex-candidate/ Charlie's argument that “Kamala Harris Is an Idiot” is both correct and sadly in need of pointing out so bluntly. We have lived through George W. Bush's malaprops, John Kerry's hedges, Joe Biden's gaffes, and Donald Trump's ramblings, but we have never yet seen a national candidate so vacuous and incapable of basic communication as Harris. (As bad as Biden is now, at least we can all remember when he was capable of that.) I often note that Ronald Reagan wasn't called “The Great Communicator” just because he gave stirring speeches or told good jokes, but because a Reagan speech communicated: You came away from listening to him knowing what he was doing or proposed to do and why he thought it was a good idea. This is the opposite of the effect that one gets from listening to Harris. And yet, there's an exception. When Harris talks about abortion, or same-sex relationships, or a few other culture-war issues — typically those with some connection to sex, although occasionally on matters of race as well — she is much more sure-footed. Not well-informed; her arguments are typically still just a collection of clichés that you'd expect to hear from a college sophomore. But at least she's clear on where she stands and passionate about the issues. Those are the things that engage her interest. It's the minute you get into topics like international affairs, the economy, or really anything that involves governing that she gets clearly out of her depth. Even the national political press seems to be getting a bit exasperated at this, if only out of a creeping sense that she might blow the election to Trump, combined with a bit of frustration that she's making their jobs harder in having to not only carry her water but fill the buckets themselves. Maybe Trump's well-known flaws will rescue her anyway by Election Day, but if not, it's going to be a long four years with a president whose only real interests are in culture-war hot buttons. https://odysee.com/@LukeFordLive, https://rumble.com/lukeford, https://dlive.tv/lukefordlivestreams Superchat: https://entropystream.live/app/lukefordlive Bitchute: https://www.bitchute.com/channel/lukeford/ Soundcloud MP3s: https://soundcloud.com/luke-ford-666431593 Code of Conduct: https://lukeford.net/blog/?p=125692 http://lukeford.net Email me: lukeisback@gmail.com or DM me on Twitter.com/lukeford, Best videos: https://lukeford.net/blog/?p=143746 Support the show | https://www.streamlabs.com/lukeford, https://patreon.com/lukeford, https://PayPal.Me/lukeisback Facebook: http://facebook.com/lukecford Book an online Alexander Technique lesson with Luke: https://alexander90210.com Feel free to clip my videos. Veteran national politics reporter for Semafor David Weigel returns to the show for a discussion of the new conservative political biopic Reagan, starring Dennis Quaid as The Great Communicator, or as he was known in Russia, The Crusader, for the film is told from the perspective of a former KGB agent (Jon Voight) who identified him early on as the man who would someday defeat the Soviet Union with facts and logic. There's a lot to unpack with Reagan, filmed in 2020 during the pandemic and only being released now. This film represents how much the Conservative movement has changed in the Trump era and since this film was shot, which leads us into a discussion about how Reagan has been somewhat diminished in the modern Republican Party, and how this political hagiography is somewhat out of step with the times. Why is a film about such a significant historical figure such a low-budget, clumsy affair populated with “stars” like Kevin Sorbo and Robert Davi (as Leonid Brezhnev!) and told from the perspective of defeated Soviet spies, with a new Bob Dylan recording in the end credits? Follow Dave Weigel on Twitter and Bluesky, and subscribe to his twice-weekly newsletter “Americana” on Semafor. Trailer for Reagan (Sean McNamara, 2024)

How to Support the Rob Skinner Podcast. If you would like to help support my mission to multiply disciples, leaders and churches, click here: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/robskinner Transcript of "How to Become a Great Communicator" When I got that call and saw who it was, I couldn't pick up the phone. I had a heavy feeling of fear deep in my gut. I let it go to voicemail. When I listened to it later, I didn't call back for a week. The voicemail message said, “Hey Rob, this is Bruce Williams. I was calling to see if you and Pam would be interested in planting a new church in Tucson, Arizona. Call me back when you get a chance.” The mixture of fear and confusion I felt paralyzed me into inaction. I was living in Oregon at the time working a full-time job as a Realtor and leading a church full-time as a self-supporting minister. Pam and I had been talking about returning to the full-time ministry. The pressure to run a growing church and support a family through the great recession and housing collapse was intense. I didn't know how long I could keep it up. However, the thought of change, upheaval and leaving my extended family while my kids were in high school worried me. So, I just didn't call back. I didn't know what to do. Fear keeps us shuttered in our homes, afraid of what might happen. It shows up when we avoid people, avoid contacts, ghost people who text us or call us and ignore emails sent to us. These behaviors are symptoms of fear. For some reason, we are afraid of what might happen, what might be said, what might be found out, what might be asked of us and we run from the conversation. As Solomon wrote in Proverbs 28:1, “The wicked flee though no one pursues, but the righteous are as bold as a lion.” We can downplay it or rationalize it for as long as we like, but this type of avoidance behavior is grounded in fear. When we avoid people, we are fleeing from a conversation or a confrontation that often needs to happen. God often works by sending the right person into our life at just the right time. That phone call, text, email, WhatsApp or DM (Direct Message) might be a message from God. If you have ever invited someone to church, followed up with them and then got ghosted you know the frustration and sadness you feel. Why? Because your invitation to them was really a ticket to heaven, a pass to eternal life. Why do people run away from God? It's been happening since the Garden of Eden. John explains this behavior in John 3:19-20, “This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.” People ghost Christians because they are afraid of the light. They are fleeing God because their deeds are evil. They don't want anyone to know what they've been doing with their lives. Even after we become Christians God sends people into our lives. That's why it's so important to maintain and preserve connections with people and make ourselves available both to those we know and those we don't know yet. You never know when God is tapping your shoulder for something new and amazing. God called Jonah to lead one of the most miraculous revivals in the Bible, the repentance of Nineveh. Jonah refused to answer God's call, he ghosted him in Jonah 1:1-3. “The word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 ‘Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.' 3But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.” God was patient with Jonah and pursued him until he got his man. Jonah almost missed the greatest opportunity of his life because of fear, racism and prejudice. God called to him a second time and this time, Jonah was there to take the call. He responded and went to Nineveh. The whole city repented from the King down to the lowliest citizen. When I called Bruce Williams back, I made profuse apologies for my slow reply. He explained the offer of planting a new church. A new planting, financial support for several years, a full-time salary, an amazing city and university and anything else I needed to be successful. I told him no. I wasn't ready to make that move even though I felt like I was caught in a vise-grip of time and financial pressure. He was patient. He had another friend, John Lusk, call me a few weeks later and invited me to come and pray over the city of Tucson, Arizona all expenses paid. I gradually started to realize that maybe this was God directing me and offering me a new start. I went and prayed over the city. I spoke with Bruce and told him then that I still wasn't ready to make a decision. I came back home, prayed and fasted. One day after work, I walked into our master bedroom to take off my suit, shirt and tie and put on my casual clothes. Pam was still in bed. I asked, “Are you sick?” She said, “No.” I asked, “Why were you in bed all day?” She said, “Because I think we need to move to Tucson.” That's the moment when I realized God was definitely calling us and I needed to be bold as a lion and stop fleeing from God's call. I called Bruce and told him that we would go to Tucson. It turned out to be a great decision. The church planting blossomed from zero to one hundred members in two years and my kids were able to all graduate from the University of Arizona. Another church was able to get off the ground and many souls have been saved. It all started with a phone call and a voicemail. If you want to be a multiplying Christian, take a look at how you handle communications. Are you easy to reach? Do you call or text people back quickly. I think 24 hours is the maximum for voicemail, texts or emails. I don't think it has to be the same day. Sometimes you need to sleep on it and consider how you're going to respond. There are times that I can sense my anger is bubbling up. That's the worst time to call or text back. Better to give it a night to lose the heat and regain emotional control than to say, text or type something you'll regret and have to apologize for later. Practicals: · Stop making excuses for ignoring, delaying and avoiding people when they are trying to communicate with you. · Ask yourself, what is causing me to practice this behavior? Is it fear, shame, lack of faith? Whatever it is, deal with the reason for the avoidance behavior. · Decide to be a quick responder. Set a 24-hour limit on your responses if not sooner. You can say your not ready to decide, but at least make the connection. You never know when God is opening a door for you.

Dive deep into the controversial legacy of Ronald Reagan, often hailed as the Great Communicator. This episode pulls back the curtain on his policies that widened the wealth gap, his administration's mishandling of the AIDS crisis, and the damaging effects of trickle-down economics. We'll explore how Reagan's charm masked a presidency that favored the rich, ignored the marginalized, and left a lasting negative impact on American society. Join us as we critically examine the man behind the myth and the enduring consequences of his tenure.
Produced by KSQD 90.7, 89.5 & 89.7FM “Be Bold America!” Sunday, June 16, 2024 at 5:00pm (PT) Throughout Reagan's eight years in the oval office, the “Great Communicator” was largely successful in shaping the soul of America to reflect his durable mantra that “government is the problem.” That same American soul later embraced Donald Trump—a president who, arguably would have appalled Reagan. Reagan's contemporary mythology as tax cutter, deficit hawk, promoter of deregulation, the ordinary citizen, champion of traditional family values, small government and free market capitalism – all indelible images. Reagan's myth persists, and by understanding his time in office in the context of American history and of the American presidency, we can understand how a transformative president created more than policy by also shaping culture with the instrumental force of mythology. A few weeks ago in Copenhagen, stepping onto the stage to open the SFPE Fire Safety Conference and Expo on Performance-Based Design, I took a bit of a gamble. I was invited to give an opening keynote, but instead of talking about my fire science and engineering, I've chosen to confront an often-overlooked cornerstone of our profession: communication. If you follow the podcast, it is not something new to you. I brought up this case multiple times - Fire safety is not just about the technical mastery of fire dynamics and code compliance – we, as engineers, need to be as adept with our communications so that our solutions are put into practice. In this episode, I'm giving my best attempt to recreate my I share the insights from my keynote, focusing on articulating complex fire safety strategies across diverse competencies and the crucial need for innovation in our communication methods. The art of communication within fire safety engineering is akin to translating an intricate language for a varied audience. From investors to fellow engineers in MEP and HVAC, ensuring each stakeholder not only grasps but values the information is key to effective implementation. By popular request, I hope you enjoy this talk for all those who were not able to make it to the SFPE conference in Copenhagen. And those who were there, this perhaps serves as a good refresher of that event and perhaps a point to restart some of the most interesting discussions that happened there.----The Fire Science Show is produced by the Fire Science Media in collaboration with OFR Consultants. The universality and speed of social media has been a game changer for crisis management - and GCs are at the forefront. Three experienced legal leaders share how to partner with non-lawyers to manage responses and prevent reputational damage.
We don't stumble into being good at things. Sure - there's raw talent. But, after a few curveballs get thrown into the mix then we need to reach beyond talent into experience and skill. Communication is one of the cornerstones of a happy life. Our business, personal, and relational growth is limited by our ability to articulate what we're experiencing. Opportunities slide away from us as we miss a chance to speak up. Relationships linger longer than needed since we don't know what words will get us out of them. Lee Woodruff is a media trainer and communications coach who works with clients in all industries and walks of life, from the CEOs of Fortune 100 companies to philanthropists and authors. What I absolutely enjoyed about this conversation, besides getting to talk about my chosen profession of comms, is the precision with which Lee gives advice. How to prepare, how to deliver an intentional pause. With that clarity and confidence it's no fluke why some of the biggest names and business leaders trust Lee with one of the most important and vulnerable practices in life, how we present ourselves to others. But the most important takeaway, what I have learned may be a universal key for successful people, a thing Lee absolutely embodies, is the willingness to give a complete stranger their undivided attention and be locked into that moment. It's powerful.

On this Thursday edition of Sid & Friends in the Morning, Sid and the crew have a big belly laugh over White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre's comment yesterday saying President Biden is the "best communicator we have in the White House." To compliment the President's communication skills on any level is to basically call the American people a bunch of senseless fools. We continuously watch Biden drag his senile self to podiums to deliver gaffe after gaffe. If you're not convinced at this point that Biden has any communication skills above that of a fourth grader, then you yourself need to get your head checked. In other news of the day, news surfaces that Chris Cuomo was suicidal following his firing from CNN, brand-new 2024 Presidential candidate Nikki Haley holds her first rally in her home state of South Carolina, New York City Mayor Eric Adams gets on his soap box in Albany to beg for more money, Governor Kathy Hochul's nominee for Chief Judge in Hector LaSalle gets rejected once again, and a toxic cloud hangs over Ohio from the train derailment wreck that took place there a few weeks ago.
