EXPLORING THE BOOK OF ACTS-A GUIDED TOUR OF THEBOOK OF ACTS

The Book of Acts is an important New Testament text that unveils the early church's journey! Grab your Bible as we examine key themes such as authorship, historical significance, and relevant lessons for today.Overview of the Book of ActsThe Book of Acts bridges the Gospels and the Epistles, showcasing how Jesus' call to "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations" (Matthew 28:19-20) is realized within the early church. This compelling narrative highlights the church's mission to disseminate the Gospel and share Christ's message of love and salvation among diverse communities.Authorship: Commonly Attributed to LukeTraditionally, the Book of Acts is credited to Luke, the physician and companion of the Apostle Paul. Church tradition asserts that the Gospel of Luke and Acts form a unified account, emphasizing Luke's commitment to ministry and the inclusive outreach to marginalized groups, such as women, the poor, and Gentiles. This inclusivity echoes Acts 2:21: "Everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved," reinforcing the Gospel's universal appeal.Purpose: Documenting the Growth of the Gospel and Early Church HistoryThe purpose of the Book of Acts is to document the extraordinary expansion of the Christian church, propelled by the Holy Spirit. Significant events like Pentecost (Acts 2) and Paul's missionary journeys (chapters 13-21) showcase God's transformative power as believers share the Gospel. Acts 1:8 encapsulates this mission: "You will receive power... and you will be my witnesses."Key Lesson: The Need for Community and Collective MissionOne of the central lessons from our exploration of Acts is the importance of community and a shared mission among believers. The early church serves as a model of unity and support, as illustrated in Acts 2:42-47, which emphasizes the significance of fellowship and communal prayer. This series will explore how these foundational principles can be adapted to our modern lives.

No musician is more closely associated with London or left more footprints than Bowie, and you can trace its influence on his life and work (and vice versa) through a series of landmarks from the suburbs to the centre. Author and curator Paul Gorman has just published an annotated street-map – David Bowie's London - listing the places that played a formative role in his world and music, the places he rehearsed, performed, filmed and recorded, the homes of friends and managers, his schools and the addresses where he lived, worked and was photographed, made connections, bought clothes and generally raised the temperature. We talk here about many of those old haunts and the stories attached to them, which include… … mysterious manager Ralph Horton who got him to change his name to Bowie and then vanished from the face of the earth. … the fate of Heddon Street, home of K-West and the Ziggy phone-box.  … Marc Bolan refusing to let him sing at an all-night benefit at Middle Earth. … “the Fairy Godmother of the New Romantics” at the WAG Club. … when Lionel Bart came to Haddon Hall. … Bowie and Steve Marriott auditioning for the Lower Third. … how he levered his way into a Fabulous magazine fashion shoot. … “the end of the age of Showbiz”: performing Chim Chim Cher-ee at the Marquee when at a crossroads between rock and roll and cabaret. … the magical piano at the Trident Studios. … a chance encounter with the otherworldly Vince Taylor whose ‘UFO map' helped inspire the concept of Ziggy Stardust. … the legend of Mr Fish, creator of the man-dress on the cover of The Man Who Sold The World. … the days when people had a white Rolls Royce and matching Alsatian – and “the Great Sarong Scare of the ‘90s”. … and various fringe figures including his art teacher Owen Frampton, Konrads agents Bob Knight and Eric Easton, muse and heartbreaker Hermione Farthingale, producers Shel Talmy and Tony Hatch (“the original Mr Nasty from Opportunity Knocks”) and slum landlord and racketeer Peter Rackman. Order Paul's street-map here:https://www.amazon.co.uk/David-Bowies-London-Paul-Gorman/dp/1068523476Find out more about how to help us to keep the conversation going: https://www.patreon.com/wordinyourear Get bonus content on Patreon Hosted on Acast. Farida Saïdi the Director of the Louis Braille Museum gave RNIB Connect Radio's Toby Davey a guided tour of both the house and museum, giving an insight into Louis Braille's early life and how he came to invent his six-dot tactile reading and writing system.  Farida very kindly also offered Toby the opportunity to explore through touch some of Louis' belongings including one of his raised letter school books, a domino that he had played with plus the Braille slate he used to write his Braille on.  You will find more information about the Louis Braille Museum by visiting there website - https://museelouisbraille.com/en More details about how the RNIB is celebrating 200 years since Louis Braille invented Braille and be found on the following pages of the RNIB website - https://www.rnib.org.uk/about-us/braille-200/ Image shows Toby stood in front of the Louis Braille Museum holding his cane in his right hand

A new self-guided tour hopes to draw visitors to Ottawa's oft-forgotten Holocaust monument

Even if you haven't visited the National Holocaust Monument in Ottawa, you may recall when it opened in September 2017 with one glaring omission: it didn't mention Jews. While the federal government did fix the plaque on the nearly $9-million monument, after that controversial opening, the monument sat largely ignored. Yes, it's used by federal politicians for Holocaust remembrance events, but there is limited signage and no tours to explain its significance to visitors or tourists. It's a problem that the Centre for Holocaust Education and Scholarship (CHES) wanted to fix. On Oct. 30, just before Holocaust Education Week kicks off on Nov. 4, the Ottawa-based organization, with support from Liberation75, unveilled a self-guided tour now available on IWalk, a mobile app created by the USC Shoah Foundation. CHES calls the tour "an essential companion to the monument," featuring information about the details of the monument along with survivor testimonies, educational materials for teachers and a virtual 3D tour. The CJN Daily's Ellin Bessner was recently in the nation's capital and wanted to see the monument for herself. Rather than take the IWalk tour, she met up with Mina Cohn and Artur Wilczynski of CHES for an in-person experience to hear the story and history behind this new immersive educational experience. Two of our favourite young bands have released new albums on the same day, and even though they're really different, they're also really similar. In the hot pink corner we have 3am (La La La), the third album from Aussie dance-pop duo Confidence Man. In the grey corner we have Guided Tour, the third album from London's indie rock inspired hardcore crew High Vis. Two albums we're very excited about, two albums that should see both bands scale new heights and two albums that, spoiler, we LOVE!

Self-guided tours, affordable housing shortage drive increase in rental scams

According to the FBI’s Internet Crimes Complaint Center, Americans lost more than $145 million to real estate scams last year. One component of those is rental scams, where legitimate listings are pulled from property management websites and reposted to sites like Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace for a lower price. Prospective tenants are sometimes even able to tour a unit before signing a bogus lease and paying a security deposit and fees to the scammer.  Rental scams have been on the rise in recent years, thanks in part to the popularity of self-guided and remote tours in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The nationwide shortage of affordable housing has also pushed many renters to move quickly on listings that promise a good deal – making them a prime target for scams.  Alexis Weisend covers affordable housing and homelessness for The Columbian. She recently wrote about this trend in Southwest Washington and joins us with more details.

This week, I invited author, writer, and director, Jamie Nash on the show to discuss his ‘Save The Cats Writes for TV' formula in his new book, Save the Cat!® Writes for TV: The Last Book on Creating Binge-Worthy Content You'll Ever Need.Jamie is a horror and children's film screenwriter with fifteen years of experience writing projects for  Nickelodeon, Liongate, Discovery, Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc, and also teaches screenwriting to college students. Some of his most notable horror credits include V/H/S/2, Lovely Molly, and Seventh Moon, A Comedy of Horrors, and Two Front Teeth. And others like Adventures of a Teenage Dragon Slayer, Tiny Christmas, etc.Screenwriting, for Jamie, was a side project he pursued at leisure when he wasn't working his Computer gaming/programming job. It wasn't until early 2004 that he sold his first script, a horror feature titled, Altered, to Haxan Films that was later directed in 2006 by one of the Blair Witch Project directors, Eduardo Sánchez. The story premised on a group of men whose lives were forever changed by a strange occurrence who, fifteen years later Now, will spend a night together ... in terror. With some financial success and notoriety from Altered, Jamie quit his computer consultant job with Citigroup and went full-time on screenwriting in 2008. Jamie is one of those writers who stay busy. He writes about five to six scripts a year for pilots, TV shows, podcasts, novels, etc. This justifies why he has a Writers Guild. It takes a lot of brainpower to create multiple plots that are so different in many ways within a short period of time. An example is his 2017 screenplays, The Night Watchman and Tiny Christmas. Two very distinct writing and audiences. He co-wrote The Night Watchman with Ken Arnold and Dan DeLuca. It is basically a story of three inept night watchmen, aided by a young rookie and a fearless tabloid journalist, fight an epic battle for their lives against a horde of hungry vampires.Tiny Christmas on the other hand is about a girl and her quirky cousin who are accidentally zapped by a shrinking ray at the hands of one of Santa's inept elves on Christmas Eve and they must learn to trust and appreciate each other and work as a team to get back home before Christmas, or risk staying tiny forever.[presto_player id=41043]On March 30th, 2021, he released his third book, Save the Cat!® Writes for TV in which he shares the essence of writing pilots as pitches for screenwriters considering television because more than 80% of jobs in the Writers Guild of America are skewed towards the television.Nash takes up Snyder's torch to lay out a step-by-step approach using Blake's principles for both new and experienced writers, including:-How to write and structure a compelling TV pilot that can launch both your series and your TV writing career-All the nuances, tricks, and techniques of pilot-writing: the Opening Pitch, the Guided Tour, the Whiff of Change, and more-The 8 Save the Cat! TV Franchise Types that will improve your story and your pitch-The not-so-secret TV Pitch Template that turns your TV series into the necessary read-over-lunch industry document-a how-to in creating layered characters who are driven by complex internal struggles-Beat sheets of the pilots of Barry, Ozark, Grey's Anatomy, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, What We Do in the Shadows, Black-ish, The Mandalorian, This Is Us, Law, and Order: SVU, and more to help you crack your storyCreate your binge-worthy TV series with Save the Cat! Writes for TV We talked some more about his own indie film hustle journey--working overtime to get a headstart in the industry, we also talked about his networking technique that keeps him booked and busy. I could talk another hour more with Jamie. He is so candid about his process and the drive behind it.Enjoy this conversation with Jamie Nash.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/indie-film-hustle-a-filmmaking-podcast--2664729/support.

Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. It is day 184 of the war with Hamas. Military reporter Emanuel Fabian joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. On October 7, Hamas led a cross-border attack killing 1,200 people in southern Israel and abducting 253 people to Gaza. Israel responded with a military campaign to topple the Hamas regime in the Gaza Strip, destroy the terror group, and free the hostages. The day after the Hamas assault, Lebanon-based terror group Hezbollah began attacks along Israel's northern border, saying it was acting in support of Gaza. Quickly, other fronts became active, including Houthi strikes on shipping routes in the Red Sea. And the shadowy long arm of Iran colors all. Today on The Daily Briefing, we tour each of Israel's active fronts and look back over the past six months. We hear about successes, lessons learned, and where we may be heading. For the latest updates, please see The Times of Israel's ongoing live blog. Discussed articles include: Live blog April 7, 2024 Four soldiers killed fighting in southern Gaza as war on Hamas hits six-month mark Two hurt, one seriously, in West Bank highway terror shooting IDF hits Hezbollah air defenses in northeast Lebanon after terror group downs drone THOSE WE HAVE LOST: Civilians and soldiers killed in Hamas's onslaught on Israel THOSE WE ARE MISSING: The hostages and victims whose fate is still unknown Subscribe to The Times of Israel Daily Briefing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts.  IMAGE: An Israeli army vehicle moves along the Gaza border, March 19, 2024.
