As entrepreneurs it's easy for life to become Eat. Sleep. Breathe. your business. We wake up to the sounds of “you've got mail” (not in the romantic Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks) kind of way but more in the Dolly Parton working 9-5 kind of way. Without even realizing it, our identities become wrapped up in the work we do, leaving no room for identity (or hobbies) outside of work! In today's interview, Hope opens up about what it's like to literally grow up with her business. Starting her photography career as a 16 year high school student, it's taken years for her to learn how to create healthy boundaries for work and life.As I'm sure most of us can attest: working is a habit that can be hard to break. And while “work” isn't to be vilified, not being able to turn off work is a fast pass to burnout. I am so grateful for the insights Hope shared in today's conversation about protecting her mental wellness and practical ways she promotes healthy work/life balance. On the show today we’re welcoming Paige Griffith for the second time! Whoop! She’s been on the show once before on episode 23, and we had her back today to do a deep dive on all things contracts, especially contracts for photographers. A little bit about Paige, she’s the founder of The Legal Paige, a virtual law firm working with online businesses and wedding industry professionals. She is a certified Juris Doctor barred in the state of Montana and holds a double B.A. in Economics and Political Science. Within The Legal Paige, she helps her clients and online community run legal and protected businesses and counsels them on issues related to contracts, intellectual property, privacy, and business law. She has worked with industry leaders such as Jasmine Star, Lindsey & Evie of The Heart University (ohhh hayyyy dats us), Hope Taylor, Davey & Krista, Colleen Christensen with No Food Rules, Jennifer Anderson with Kids Eat in Color and dozens more. Her mission is to create an online space where the law isn’t so scary and entrepreneurs can get legally legit in no time. In this episode, Paige answers some big questions like “why are contracts so important? What’s the big deal?” “Do I need a contract at the very beginning of my business?” “What about if I’m just doing business or providing a service for a close family or best friend? Are contracts necessary there?” She also answers where she recommends getting a contract if you don’t have one at all. It’s a really good juicy episode. Building a successful business takes time, dedication, and drive. Building a successful business while still in high school? That takes grit and determination as well. Hope Taylor was able to do it and she is sharing her story and how she managed a successful relocation to build her business bigger than ever. Hope started her photography business as a junior in high school, but senior year it really started to take off. She was doing senior portraits for her peers and realized that she loved it. After convincing her parents that this was the path she wanted to take, she registered her business and things really took off. She has since moved into wedding photography and has built a successful course to help other photographers start their business off right. It hasn’t been easy, but it has been one hundred percent worth it. In 2019 she moved from her hometown of Fredericksburg, VA to Charleston, SC and essentially had to start from scratch. She was able to do it by strategically using social media and dialing in her marketing strategies. Listen as Hope shares more about her journey, all of her transitions, and what it has taken to pursue a full-time business right out of high school. She’s been doing this for years now and has so much to say on what it takes to build a business right now. You won’t want to miss this! In This Episode: [01:34] Welcome to the show, Hope! [16:51] Educating is something that Hope has always done because she likes to help photographers pursue their dreams. Repetition is a theme throughout the psalms. The praises of God ring out like the delay on a guitar pedal, day after day, psalm after psalm. Keep This On Repeat is a look into the Bible's playlist, where we find a rhythm in prayer, worship, and hope. More than that, we'll see how Jesus exemplifies how to do all three and how Jesus embodies the answer to our prayers, the object of our worship, and the source of our hope.

Have you ever caught yourself saying, “I'm too young, too old, too new, or too whatever to do the thing you want to do? Because if you have (like most of us have), then you're going to love this episode! I am excited to introduce you to my friend, Hope Taylor because she started her business when she was 16 years old. So, let's just say that she has faced adversity, criticism, and those voices in her head telling her she's too young, too new, too whatever. But she is pulling back the curtain, sharing it all with us and sharing with us the journey of building a successful business! She is a photographer and educator in the creative industry, she speaks at events and major conferences, but more importantly, she hosts her own workshops as a big part of her business. She has a lot to share with us about how to actually add education to our business in a way that is seamless, that doesn't confuse our audience, that really just helps build up our credibility, and makes us known as that “go to person” in our industry. So if you're looking to start taking those leaps as an educator or you're wanting to host your own events and add this new area to your business, grab a pen because this episode is for you. Episode takeaways you don't want to miss: Your life is your own. Take the reins and just run with your creativity and business! You don't want to look back wishing you had done it sooner. Just go for it now! Whatever the thing is you want to do, know that you don't have to fit into the box that everyone else is in. Take the time to figure out what your thing is and how it will work for you, not everyone else! Personal marketing will help keep your audience engaged in everything you do as you start adding in different events or education tools to your business. Keep them involved in the process! Narrow down the areas of professionalism you want to be known for (and are really good at!) then start teaching on that and hosting events around that education. Is the Holy Spirit restoring the church today? Something closer to what Jesus really meant when he said, “I will build my Ekklesia” … a Kingdom community of Christ-followers who bring heaven’s culture into all spaces and places? If the Church is vital to the Big Story that God is pursuing -- as vital as the New Testament claims -- then we really can’t afford to get this wrong. ----more---- This is part 2 of my provocative conversation with Hope Taylor, an influencer in a movement today that is seeing the church restored to the concept of Ekklesia that Jesus taught. It's stunning what Jesus said: "I will build my EKKLESIA." It was a secular Greek concept and word. The Romans adopted it as well. The meaning is a called-out assembly of citizens who gather. Their objective was to bring the rule and culture of the emperor to a new area. Is Jesus looking for his church to colonize the earth with his world ... the Kingdom of God? If so, this is much bigger than attending church. ----more---- See show notes page for this episode on JesusSmart.com JESUS SMART: THE PODCAST Click to receive the Jesus Smart eLetter and keep current with podcast episode releases We’re resolved that Jesus Christ is the most brilliant person to walk the planet! On today's episode, I chat with Hope Taylor about how she went full-time in her photography business at age 18, why workshops and conferences are so important and how to decide which one's to go to, and how she makes her business work. She also gives us some great tips for social media and how to make it easier for your business. It was so fun to chat with our first photographer on the show! About Hope:A few years ago, if you had told me I’d have the opportunity to be a full-time photographer and business owner, I would have laughed. Because, you see, a few years ago I was just a high school student with a part-time job at a retail store. My life was a constant race between stocking shelves, studying for AP classes, getting to cheer practices, rushing through the halls and applying for universities. The thought of being an entrepreneur seemed daunting and far off, if not impossible. But, God laid on my heart that maybe something should be different. Maybe the college I committed to attending wasn’t where I was supposed to be. Maybe, just maybe, the way I pictured my life was not what He had mapped out for me. So, one morning, I made a big decision: I was revoking my admission to a 4-year business university and pursuing this crazy, seemingly unattainable dream full time. And I was going to chase after those dreams like a freight train. I feel so thankful every day to have the opportunity to do what I love through serving and loving my clients. And while photography is something that I love and adore - creating lasting relationships with my clients is where my heart will always lie. And, in my journey to pursue my purpose and build a business rooted in love, I’ve found an even deeper passion for educating and equipping other photographers to do the same.
