In this episode of The Decoding Success Podcast, Matt sits down with Annalie Howling for a powerful conversation about healing shame, overcoming limiting beliefs, burnout, identity, self-worth, and what it truly means to become yourself again. Annalie opens up about the difference between who we truly are versus who we become in order to survive. Together, Matt and Annalie explore how childhood experiences, trauma, toxic relationships, societal expectations, and internalized shame quietly shape our identities, relationships, ambitions, and even our success. This episode dives deep into the hidden connection between high achievement and emotional pain, why so many successful people secretly feel unworthy, and how unresolved shame can fuel perfectionism, people-pleasing, anxiety, burnout, and self-sabotage. Annalie shares deeply personal stories about surviving violence, navigating divorce, rebuilding her life, and learning how to stop living according to "shoulds" and start living according to what she truly wants. She also explains why shame is often felt in the body long before it becomes conscious thought — and why healing begins by reconnecting with yourself rather than abandoning yourself for acceptance. Matt and Annalie also unpack the pressure of modern life, the trap of comparison culture, why so many people stay stuck in survival mode, and how healing can unlock a level of peace, freedom, self-leadership, and fulfillment most people never realize is available to them. If you've ever felt disconnected from yourself, trapped by anxiety, driven by invisible pressure, or exhausted from trying to become who the world expected you to be, this conversation will deeply resonate with you. Friendship Breakups, Boundaries vs. Capacity, and Building Communities of Understanding At BossMom, we're normalizing the conversations that help you grow a business while raising a family. In this episode, Dana sits down with Annalie Bloomfield, author of Unapologetic: Unshackle Your Shame, Reclaim Your Power, for a refreshingly honest conversation about something nobody warned us about: friendship breakups in our 40s. They dive into why so many women are experiencing major friendship shifts right now, the difference between boundaries (exhausting) and raising your standards (empowering), and why your kids watching you pursue your dreams isn't selfish—it's the opposite of self-sacrifice. Annalie shares her powerful reframe: stop trying to set boundaries and start raising your standards. When you elevate what you're willing to accept for yourself, people naturally rise to meet you there—or they don't, and that's okay too. Dana introduces the concept of "unlimited capacity" versus the scarcity mindset that tells us we can't handle noise, chaos, or complications. They both agree: when you're in the right spaces with the right people, you discover you actually have infinite capacity for connection. From "paint your truck first" (Dana's reminder never to self-sacrifice like her birth father did) to "model, don't martyr" (the mantra every mom entrepreneur needs), this conversation will make you rethink everything you've been told about being a "good mom" and a "good friend." Plus, they explore why micro-communities and "communities of understanding" are the future—because sometimes you need different people for different parts of your life, and that's not only okay, it's healthy. For this Healing 101 episode, I wanted to focus on something that quietly underpins so much of our mental health, so I sat down with Annalie Howling to talk about guilt, shame, and why understanding the difference really matters. We break it down in a simple, relatable way - how guilt is about what we do, while shame becomes a painful belief about who we are - and why shame can be so corrosive to our self-worth, relationships, and recovery. Annalie explains how shame often sits underneath anxiety, addiction, perfectionism, and people-pleasing, and shares compassionate, practical ways to start loosening its grip and move towards self-compassion instead.Find Annalie:Website: https://annaliehowling.com/Book: https://annaliehowling.com/unapologetic/Instagram: @annaliehowlingStay Connected with Hurt to Healing:Instagram: instagram.com/hurttohealingpodTikTok: tiktok.com/@hurttohealingpodLinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/hurt-to-healingSubstack: substack.com/@hurttohealingWebsite: hurttohealing.co.uk Hosted on Acast. Being a whistleblower is a tough enough endeavor without the added challenges of exposing a government that is running secret mind control programs on a staggering number of victims. MKUltra was a top-secret program that sought to control people's minds without their knowledge, but there were major problems with the program, both from a moral and scientific standpoint. Annalie Cummings has never known a life that didn't involve trauma-based mind control, and her story of being a child in the system will haunt you. The role of museums and eugenics is an interesting angle to this story, as well as the horrible stories of torture, medical experimentation, and betrayal by her mother.
