In episode 284 of iCantCU, I talk about another hiccup with my psoriatic arthritis meds—this time, the pharmacy wanted over two grand out of pocket. Spoiler: I said no. Taltz has helped a bit, but not $2,000-a-month helpful. So now I'm back on the hunt for something else that won't break the bank or mess me up with scary side effects. I also share some sad news: we lost Stan Ingram, a fellow blind entrepreneur in the Business Enterprise Program here in PA. That means one less BEP operator and a big question mark about what happens to his spot. Plus, my friend Ken's dad passed, and I send love to his family. It's been a rough week. I share the fact that my other podcast, White Canes Connect, is currently ranked #19 on the 100 Best Visually Impaired Podcasts! So much for the false rumors being spread about the show. We've got a Keystone Chapter fundraiser coming up on April 29 at Landmark Americana in Philly. Print the flyer and bring your appetite. I'll be there around 1 p.m. for lunch—come say hi. Leadership Lessons: Finding My Place in Baltimore

In this episode of iCantCU, I talk about my recent trip to Baltimore for a National Federation of the Blind leadership seminar. The travel down was rough—high winds, delayed trains, and a soaked suitcase—but once I got there, it was an incredible few days. I met fantastic people from all over the country, learned a ton, and left feeling inspired (and maybe a little intimidated) by how sharp some of these folks are. I also get into how the trip lit a fire under me to do more back home in Pennsylvania. That's where Federation Focus comes in—a new weekly video series I started to keep everyone updated on what's happening in the affiliate. I walk through how that came together and all the other NFB-related stuff I've been working on, from graphics to fundraising letters to podcast editing. In this episode of iCantCU, I share a jaw-dropping moment when the director of a Pennsylvania state agency called me a four-letter word. Yes, really. It all ties back to my ongoing fight for transparency and inclusion in the Business Enterprise Program (BEP), which provides blind entrepreneurs with opportunities to run vending and food service businesses on government properties. Despite promises of reopening the program, Pennsylvania hasn't trained a new blind vendor in over five years. With the number of operators dwindling from 200 to just 20, and many nearing retirement, the program's future is in jeopardy. I break down the bureaucratic roadblocks, potential conflicts of interest, and the resistance to allowing public attendance at key meetings—including my own. I also discuss the upcoming PA Association of Blind Merchants Spring Fling on May 17 in Harrisburg. It's a chance to support blind entrepreneurs, network, and raise awareness. Tickets are available now! Blind entrepreneurs exhibit opportunities and sponsorship opportunities are also available. See all the links below in the Links Mentioned section. In this episode of iCantCU, I recount my journey to Washington, D.C., for the annual National Federation of the Blind (NFB) Washington Seminar. I share insights into the event's purpose—advocating for policies that support blind Americans—and my meetings with congressional representatives and senators. I detail the structured meetings, including conversations with Senator McCormack and staff from Senator Fetterman's office, emphasizing the importance of protecting hard-won rights under laws like the ADA. I also reflect on travel challenges, from navigating train stations to nearly getting on the wrong train to trouble with taxis. Despite not feeling my best, I make the most of the experience, participating in legislative discussions and a reception in the historic Kennedy Caucus Room—where Titanic hearings were once held. I also dive into personal highlights, like my long-awaited trip to Oohh's & Aahh's for mac and cheese, only to find my taste buds uncooperative due to illness. Wrapping up, I reflect on the importance of advocacy. Join me for a firsthand look at what it's like to be part of the fight for accessibility and inclusion. I reflect on navigating the subway, offering reassurance to those hesitant about using public transportation. Drawing from my father's advice—"Be careful, but don't be afraid"—I encourage everyone to embrace new challenges, whether in travel or life. I also detail my visit to Jane's studio apartment, describing its compact yet functional space in a desirable building. Post-settlement, we explored the city, visiting Grand Central Terminal, Fifth Avenue shops, and indulging in delicious food—including a memorable trip to Salt & Straw for ice cream. Beyond the trip, I touch on my recent participation in an accessibility panel and share insights on the importance of confidence in mobility, particularly within the blind community.  To be clear, though, the person afraid of the subway is fully sighted. What Yahoo Gets Right and AbilityLinks Gets Wrong

In episode 278 of iCantCU, I start off with some good news from the fantasy football world. Out of the three leagues I played in this year, I won two championships, including the NFB Students fundraising league with my team Ziggy FC. Yahoo's fantasy sports app, while not perfect, is a standout example of accessibility done right. Unfortunately, not every organization gets accessibility right. I also talk about AbilityLinks, a job site for the disabled community. Their emails included a QR code with critical information, but it wasn't screen-reader-friendly. For an organization that claims to serve the disabled, especially when blindness is considered a disability, this felt like a real miss. It's frustrating, and I wonder why they didn't just use a simple link. On the personal side, I've been working hard to migrate my website, iCantCU.com, to a new host. Along the way, I rediscovered some old email accounts, including one I'd set up for restaurant coupons. It's funny to think about how much has changed since I started using the domain nearly 19 years ago. In this packed episode of iCantCU, I dive into holiday highlights, culinary adventures, and upcoming plans. First, I share my experience attending a French macaron-making class with Liz and Jane at Sur La Table. While the process was visually intensive, the instructor, Elliot, made it incredibly tactile and inclusive for me, which was both surprising and heartwarming. Though I'll never make macarons solo, it was a fun and memorable family activity. I also recount the hilarity of Ziggy's new oversized Christmas pickle toy—a three-foot plush he's been dragging around the house like a proud pup. Seeing his excitement brought back the joy of giving. What Christmas isn't complete without Nazis? I tell the story about what Jane's friends spotted in the image of me and Ziggy. Spoiler alert: it was the shadowbox with my dad's POW papers and the spoon he ate with while being held by the Germans in World War Two Looking ahead, I discuss plans for the 2025 NFB State Convention and my goals for expanding creative projects. This episode celebrates family, community, and the joy of meaningful experiences. In this episode of iCantCU, I share my experience traveling to Harrisburg for the Blind Merchants Holiday Party and fundraiser, reflecting on the challenges of navigating public transportation as a person with very limited sight. Timing was a major hurdle, from the unpredictable delays with CCT to coordinating a group of 17 people on an Amtrak train. I discuss how small inefficiencies can snowball, highlighting the importance of time—our most precious resource. Once in Harrisburg, the event was a success, with 65 tickets sold, great food, a DJ playing festive music, and lively auctions and raffles that raised over $6,000. I was impressed by how smoothly everything ran, despite a few hiccups, like managing auction payments and losing a check. I also recount some funny moments, like my guide dog encounter with a cracker I dropped and the dictation mishaps that never fail to amuse (or frustrate). I wrap up by reflecting on the importance of accessibility and time management while balancing humor and frustration. The fundraiser was a rewarding reminder of what our community can accomplish, even when obstacles arise. In this episode of iCantCU, I share highlights from the National Federation of the Blind of Pennsylvania's state convention in Erie and reflect on the experience of turning 60. The journey to Erie was an adventure in itself, with a nine-hour bus ride filled with trivia games, camaraderie, and the occasional logistical hiccup.  Once there, I was happy helping others find their way around the venue and assisted with setup for various events. Despite challenges, the convention was a resounding success, featuring engaging presentations, a tech seminar I moderated, and valuable networking opportunities. I also discuss memorable moments from my milestone birthday celebration, which coincided with a meetup at Brauhaus Schmitz in Philadelphia. From a custom cake to great company, it was a special way to ring in a new decade. As I gear up to serve as convention chair next year, I reflect on lessons learned, including better organization and leveraging volunteers effectively. While Erie offered a stellar venue with outstanding service, its distance makes it a rare host for our conventions. Listen in for a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into organizing a convention and a bit about my plans for the future.  Show notes at https://www.iCantCU.com/275 Links Mentioned (product links are affiliate links so that I may earn a commission.) The highlight of this episode is my visit to the Pennsylvania Governor's Mansion for "Lori Listens," hosted by PA First Lady Lori Shapiro. I, along with other members of the NFB of PA, got to talk about web accessibility issues with folks from the state. We gave feedback on a Commonwealth website and were surprised to see changes made almost immediately—proof that they're taking our concerns seriously.  I dive into the everyday frustrations we face when websites and apps aren't accessible—like unlabeled buttons or pages that trap you behind pop-up ads. These things can make simple tasks take forever. But it felt good knowing that someone was listening and committed to improving things. What do I mean when I say an app or a website is not accessible? I give a couple of demos of sites that are not accessible and provide a workaround for one of them.  Show notes at https://www.iCantCU.com/273 Links Mentioned (product links are affiliate links so that I may earn a commission.) In episode 271 of iCantCU, I talk about two state-level meetings I attended and the adventure of navigating a new train station without any help from Amtrak. First up was an OVR meeting where, despite being focused on disabilities, they had nothing accessible for blind folks—no Braille, no large print, nothing. Frustrating, but not surprising. I also attended a BEP meeting, where the training program has been on hold for over four years. It was disheartening to hear there's no clear timeline for reopening, especially since blind people rely on these opportunities to run businesses. On the travel side, I figured out the Paoli train station on my own, got to Harrisburg, and had a much better hotel experience than last time. Plus, I talk about my fantasy football leagues (still holding on!) and preview the upcoming NFB of PA state convention in Erie. It's a packed episode, so stick with me, and as always, thanks for listening! In episode 270 of iCantCU, titled The Pressure of Being Blind, I discuss my recent experiences at Podcast Movement in Washington, D.C. Despite initial hesitations, a last-minute decision led me to attend the event. I share the challenges of navigating the conference as the only blind participant, emphasizing the pressure to avoid mistakes and the constant awareness of being watched.  From unexpected technical issues with my website (it was hacked) right before departure to racing to catch a train, my journey was filled with obstacles that tested my resilience. I also touch on using AI tools for accessibility, the thrill of connecting with other podcasters, and the importance of independence in overcoming the unique challenges of traveling while blind.  My story highlights the struggles and triumphs of navigating the world with limited vision while remaining determined to succeed in a sighted world. My ultimate goal is to show the sighted world that blind people are capable. In episode 268 of iCantCU, I take you along on my latest trip to New York City, where I tested the accessibility of a new version of a financial app. The trip had its moments, from battling some equipment issues to a chaotic cab ride that had me questioning my life choices.  I also finally got to visit the Jackie Robinson Museum, something I've been looking forward to for years. Using my phone's assistive tech, I navigated the exhibits, but not without a few challenges.  I also talk about my thoughts on working in an open office—spoiler alert, it's not ideal for someone who relies on listening rather than seeing. And, of course, no trip to New York would be complete without a stop at Junior's for some cheesecake with Jane. Listen for all the details, a few laughs, and some insights into accessible tech. From Exhibit Hall Hiccups to VIP Screenings: My Busy Orlando Trip

In episode 267 of the iCantCU podcast, I talk about my recent trip to the NFB National Convention in Orlando. I start by mentioning my improved lighting setup in Studio B, hoping it looks better than last time.  The convention was a whirlwind of activity, and I had the pleasure of meeting many incredible people, especially the lively folks from the NFB of Puerto Rico. I'm proudly wearing their blue shirt with tactile Braille on the back, which I think is really cool. I bought a few things at the exhibit hall, including some treats from Puerto Rico and a shirt from Massachusetts. Managing the exhibit hall table for the NFB of Pennsylvania was quite an experience, filled with vendor issues and sales of tote bags and candy bars. It was hectic, but the team's enthusiasm made it worthwhile, and we learned a lot for next time. One of the highlights was attending a VIP screening of "Don't Look Now," where I met some cast members and enjoyed a post-screening hang. Hilarity ensues when I search for a quiet place for Brian to interview some of the cast and producers.  Traveling was relatively smooth, thanks to some helpful TSA agents and airport staff who made the process easier. The convention itself was a mix of busy days and memorable moments. I enjoyed the camaraderie and efforts of my team, even though it was exhausting. From coordinating the exhibit hall to dealing with last-minute changes, it felt like being back in business again. Despite the chaos, it was a great trip, and I'm looking forward to future travels, though hopefully with a bit more relaxation next time. The second story is about ordering my medication, Taltz, from the specialty pharmacy's Express website. The site wasn't accessible with VoiceOver, so I used a series of screenshots and the Be My Eyes AI feature to navigate it. In this episode of iCantCU, I discuss my trip to Las Vegas. I just returned from an exciting trip to Vegas, where I attended the Grow With Video Live conference. I have some great updates and stories to share with you! First, a shoutout to Greg, a listener and Phillies fan, who's made significant strides with the Phillies organization to provide real-time audio devices for visually impaired fans. Thanks to his efforts, those devices should be available soon, allowing blind fans like us to enjoy the games in real-time without the delay you'd experience with regular radios while at the ballpark. I also had quite the adventure with my flights—traveling via Spirit Airlines. I can't say enough about how helpful the Spirit employees were. The service I received from the boarding agents and flight attendants was first-class. The conference itself was a goldmine of information and networking. I learned a lot about growing the channel and had the opportunity to meet many new people. The highlight, though, was the new connections and insights I gained. From tips on using Instagram to grow the audience to new strategies for my YouTube content, I came back inspired. Despite minor hiccups with accessibility at the event and the airport, the overall experience was incredibly enriching. I'm eager to apply my knowledge to the podcast and the channel. White Canes Connect Podcast Episode 101 In episode 101, Lisa and I speak with Rabbi Lenny Sarko to discuss his pioneering work on the Braille Torah. Rabbi Sarko, who is visually impaired himself due to complications from diabetes, shares his unique journey of adapting the Torah into Braille to facilitate inclusive religious participation for the blind and visually impaired within the Jewish community. The episode delves into Rabbi Sarko's motivation, which stemmed from his fear of losing complete sight and realizing that no Hebrew Braille Torahs existed globally. This led him to innovate and create the first Braille Sefer Torah, overcoming significant technical challenges such as ensuring the durability of Braille on parchment and complying with the Torah's stringent production standards. In this episode of iCantCU, I discuss various engaging topics that have kept me busy over the past week. I begin with a humorous anecdote about a raffle where an unsold ticket wins. I reflect on my participation in a recent podcast episode of "That Real Blind Tech Show," where Brian and Ed critiqued Michael Schuman's article in The Atlantic,  I shift to local events, sharing my experiences at a transition fair aimed at assisting students moving between major educational stages. I also delve into challenges with accessibility, particularly highlighting frustrations with the Johnston and Murphy website and other digital platforms that fail to accommodate the visually impaired. A significant highlight is my account of an eclipse listening party, where a device from Harvard was supposed to enhance the experience for the visually impaired. Despite high expectations, the device was underwhelming to me, though the social aspect of the event was enriching. The episode also touches on systemic issues faced by disabled riders with SEPTA, Philadelphia's public transit authority. I criticize their outsourcing practices and lack of reliable service, which I illustrate with personal stories that underscore the inconvenience caused to disabled passengers. Episode 262 is packed with personal stories, advocacy, and a candid look at the intersection of technology, accessibility, and community in the life of a visually impaired individual. In episode 261 of iCantCU, I dive into a heartfelt discussion, primarily focusing on an article from The Atlantic that caught my attention thanks to my sister-in-law. The piece, titled "I'm Disabled. Please Help Me." reflects on the challenges visually impaired individuals face in navigating public spaces and prompts me to share my own experiences and insights. I emphasize the importance of independence and the unnecessary help often imposed by sighted individuals, suggesting that such interventions can sometimes be more hindering than helpful. I critique the article's portrayal of visually impaired people as constantly in need of assistance, arguing that it perpetuates stereotypes and misunderstands the capabilities and adaptive strategies of those living with visual impairments. By sharing my journey of adapting to blindness, including leveraging technology like smartphones and screen readers, I advocate for a more nuanced understanding of independence among visually impaired individuals. I challenge the article's implications, highlighting the importance of asking for help when needed rather than assuming incapacity. My reflections extend beyond personal anecdotes to address broader misconceptions about blindness, employment challenges, and the importance of mobility training. I call for a shift in perspective that recognizes the competence and autonomy of visually impaired people, urging society to listen and respond to their actual needs rather than imposing misguided assistance. This episode is a powerful testament to my advocacy for independence and empowerment within the visually impaired community, challenging stereotypes and encouraging a more inclusive and understanding approach to disability. In this episode of iCantCU, I share some exciting updates and stories. First, I want to thank Renee, Dan, and Alex for supporting the NFB of Pennsylvania April raffle. It's been a fun ride with tickets at $5 each, offering everyone a chance to win daily throughout April. Getting those tickets out, especially to our visually impaired friends, has been a journey involving some creative solutions and a little help from technology. In this episode, I also share my recent travels and experiences, starting with a leadership seminar in State College, PA. This year's seminar took a fresh approach with committee meetings and a strong focus on team building, which I found incredibly valuable. A personal highlight was a visit to the Berkey Creamery—if you ever find yourself in State College, their ice cream is a must-try. Then, there was the Business Enterprise Program (BEP) meeting in Harrisburg. It's been eye-opening to discuss the slow progress and challenges within the program, particularly around training. It's clear there's a lot of work to be done, and I'm hopeful for improvements in the future. Throughout the episode, I sprinkle in personal anecdotes, like my father's lottery number superstitions and the adventures of navigating public transportation as a visually impaired person. These stories add a bit of humor and light-heartedness to our journey together. Thanks for tuning in to episode 260 of the iCantCU podcast. In this episode of iCantCU, I share a mix of personal anecdotes and reflections on technology, media representation, and community engagement.  My weekend outing with Liz to Brio, a restaurant in the Christiana Mall, turned into an exploration of assistive technology. I intended to pick up my Mac mini. Still, I delved into the capabilities and limitations of the "Be My Eyes" app over lunch. With Liz's help reading the menu, I relied on the app to make a dietary choice, only to find its limitations when it failed to recognize nutritional info on some menu items. This experience segued into my participation in a study at the University of Texas at Austin, examining the effectiveness of AI in providing image descriptions. The study reminded me of technology's potential and current shortcomings in aiding those with visual impairments. The episode's main focus, however, was on television and the portrayal of blind characters. I discussed my disappointment with "The Equalizer" episode titled "Blind Justice," critiquing the casting of a sighted actor in a blind role and the broader implications for representation in media. This led to a wider discussion on the importance of authentic representation and the challenges faced by actors with disabilities in the industry. Additionally, I touched on the inconsistencies and quality issues with audio description services on television, sharing my frustrations with the accessibility features in shows like "SWAT" and "FBI." The variability in the availability and quality of audio descriptions highlights the ongoing struggle for equal access to entertainment. I previewed episode 098 of White Canes Connect, which featured a discussion on low vision awareness with experts and community members. This underscored the diversity within the visually impaired community and the shared goal of improving accessibility and understanding. Throughout episode 259, I weave together personal experiences with broader reflections on technology, media, and community, offering insights into the challenges and opportunities facing today's visually impaired community. In this episode of iCantCU, I explore everything from unique fundraising efforts to the power of community meetings and the challenges blind parents face. I begin with an exciting opportunity to support the NFB of Pennsylvania through a raffle with fantastic rewards. It's a simple way to contribute and stand a chance to win, with proceeds going directly to a great cause. I also discuss the ongoing challenge of encouraging in-person attendance at our Keystone chapter meetings since the pandemic. Despite the convenience of Zoom, there's a unique value in face-to-face interactions that we're striving to rekindle. Bringing donuts and coffee to meetings has become our strategy to boost in-person attendance. It's a small gesture that will strengthen our community bonds. Our conversation shifts to supporting blind parents, spotlighting Stacie's initiative to launch a nonprofit. This effort aims to address the unique challenges blind parents face, from societal prejudices to practical hurdles in child-rearing. Travel plays a significant role in my life, and I share my upcoming trips, mainly related to my work with the NFB. From leadership seminars to state conventions, these journeys are not just about the destinations but the people and experiences along the way.  Your support and engagement mean the world to me, and I hope this episode has inspired you. In this episode of iCantCU, I explain what Washington Seminar is and discuss various aspects of my trip to Washington, D.C., for the annual event. I was part of a team from the NFB of PA that I dubbed the PA-5 Guys since we (Simon, Chip, and me) are all from Pennsylvania's 5th Congressional District.  We met with Susan Wild, D-PA7. She is a big supporter of our issues, co-sponsoring two pieces of legislation on our agenda, H.R.5813 and H.R.1328. After the meeting, we got a pic with the Congresswoman. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, D-PA5, was busy voting in the House Chamber when we arrived for our meeting, so we met with her aide Maddi. As we were leaving her office, our Congresswoman arrived so we could introduce ourselves to her and get a pic. I introduced myself as Artemis's dad. My son works at the Swarthmore Co-op, a store the Congresswoman frequents when she is home. We lucked out on our final day while waiting for a meeting with anyone from Senator John Fetterman's office. While waiting in the hallway, the hoodie and shorts-wearing Senator arrived at his office, so we got a chance to speak with him briefly, along with a pic. Uber is back on the podcast; this time, it isn't about the app. I recount my trips and that some drivers don't understand what blind means. Even one driver said he had vision issues, just like me! In this episode of iCantCU, I discuss more issues with apps and their lack of accessibility. This time, it's Uber and ASX. Both were better than Starbucks but required workarounds or the dreaded sighted help.  I also recount a fantastic afternoon with our friends at the Greater Philly Chapter. Their President, Denice Brown, invited members of the Keystone Chapter to their annual New Year's lunch. Did I get Mac and cheese? You'll have to listen for the answer. In Just Listen, I play Ziggy, The Golden Song, which I created with the help of ChatGPT for the lyrics and Suno.ai for the music. There are two song versions, and you'll get a sample of both. How is a blind or visually impaired person supposed to place an order for a store that is now a mobile order pick-up-only location if the app isn't accessible? On the bright side, I now have an app to use as a demonstration when we meet our Representatives and US Senators during the NFB's Washington Seminar.  I also discuss what is going on with Ziggy. Welcome to our January 2024 monthly Digest: a monthly newsletter of the National Federation of the Blind of Pennsylvania! The events and information listed below will be within the National Federation of the Blind of Pennsylvania and any pertinent information from the National Federation of the Blind and the Pennsylvania blind community. If you or anyone you know have any upcoming events or information that can pertain to the blind community in Pennsylvania, please send them to Stacie Leap at nfb.stacie@gmail.com by the 27th of the month so it can be added to our calendar for the following month.   Editor's Note Hello all: I do apologize that December 2023's edition never came out. I was experiencing some hardships and had to remove myself from certain obligations. Thank you to those who checked on me and kept me in their thoughts and prayers.   On a happier note, the Monthly Digest is one year old! We started this monthly newsletter in January 2023, and it was a pleasure sharing all of this information with everybody! I have received many emails with positive feedback and am glad people are reading this newsletter. That was a fear of mine: that people would not read this newsletter and delete it. However, I am happy that people are engaging with the newsletter. Thank you all!  - Stacie Leap     A Message from our State Affiliate President   Dear Members and Friends, Happy New Year! It was wonderful spending time with you at our recent State Convention in November 2023. We had record registration, record attendance at the Banquet and the Possibilities Fair, and an overflowing Exhibit Hall. The feedback I have received about the programming has been overwhelmingly positive.  Thank you to the many hands, hearts, and minds that went into putting this together!!! Looking forward to wonderful things in 2024! Sincerely, Lynn Heitz President, National Federation of the Blind of Pennsylvania president@NFBOfPA.org   Google Calendar Links   The National Federation of the Blind of Pennsylvania also has a Google Calendar that can be viewed either through the web or subscribed to your calendar apps. You can view the calendar at www.NFBofPA.org/calendar. However, if you wish to subscribe to the calendar and get the events on your calendar apps, please Subscribe and go through the steps to subscribe:   Member Spotlight: David Goldstein   Each month, we will highlight someone within our affiliate. The goal is to allow us to learn about other members within the affiliate. We hope you enjoy this little spotlight! David Goldstein was recently elected as the First Vice President of our state affiliate during our 2023 State Convention! He is also the Treasurer of the Keystone Chapter and Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Association of Blind Merchants. He is also one of the hosts of White Canes Connect, our official state affiliate podcast. In addition, he is also our web coordinator of our new affiliate website: www.nfbofpa.org. If you do not think that is enough, he is the President of Digital Graphics Design, LLC. David is a father of two adult children and a dog dad to Ziggy, a golden retriever. He is into technology and has his own podcast, iCantCU, where he chronicles his life and the different activities he is involved in. In his own words, “iCantCU sounds like a sentence, but it is only 7 letters long. It is like blind people for dummies.” If you ever get a chance to meet David, do not forget to say, “Hello!”   Calendar of Events   The following events are also on our Google calendar with the Zoom information or meeting location. The Silent Struggle: Discussing Accessibility in Music Apps

In this episode of iCantCU, I discuss my frustration with an app for doing a music survey from Alt Nation on SiriusXM. Generally speaking, the app was probably about 70% accessible. It's an absolutely epic end of the year That Real Blind Tech Show which brings the entire gang and more together. We end 2023 squashing our beef with another Blind Tech show. We once and for all settle the beef over who The Real Mr. F is.   After some fun we eventually get to discussing our favorite tech products of the year, as after all we are a tech show believe it or not.   Of course with all of us here we have a little trouble getting through all our favorite tech products, but along the way you will get to learn a little about how  That Real Blind Tech show, Double Tap, and ICantCU  found our ways in to the spectacular podcasts we are today.   Yes, it took us this long to get through all of our tech products, but trust me you will not want to miss the insanity that ensues along the way. If we were up for an Emmy this would be our submission episode!   And it's an extended Watcha Streaming, watcha Reading with our guests.   To contact That Real Blind Tech Show, you can email us at ThatRealBlindTechShow@gmail.com, join our Facebook Group That Real Blind Tech Show, join us on the Twitter @BlindTechShow , or leave us an old school phone message at 929-367-1005.

I also share my experiences from the NFB of PA State Convention in Harrisburg, PA. You won't believe the disappointment I encountered at the Crowne Plaza – their efforts on the hospitality side of things were shockingly poor, to say the least. If planning an event in Harrisburg, steer clear of the Crowne Plaza. And there's more – I recount the chaos with Amtrak during our journey back to Philadelphia. Picture this: over 20 blind individuals trying to board a train, and a situation so intense that Amtrak staff felt compelled to call for backup. In this episode of iCantCU, I discuss some ups and downs with our monthly Keystone Chapter meeting at the Penn Museum. At least the trains were running to and from the Penn Medicine Station. I explain some differences in Believe You Can! 2023 over previous year's shows.  I give a mini book review of The Country of the Blind: A Memoir at the End of Sight by Andrew Leland. I "read" the book before interviewing him on White Canes Connect. If you want to see the talent we get for Believe You Can!, you can hear one of last year's performers in Just Listen. This email was from Dan Burke:   "Dear friends and Federation family -       Julie and I are heart-broken to tell you that Tom Anderson, the beloved first-Braille teacher at CCB and one of the two staff members who opened the doors of the Colorado Center for the Blind in 1988 with Diane McGeorge, died Tuesday afternoon. Tom had been in the hospital for about two weeks in Kansas where he and his wife, Linda returned after tom's retirement from CCB in 2015. He passed quietly from this life with his dear Linda holding one of his hands and his twin sister Toni holding the other.       Tom had cancer nearly 20 years ago, but was cancer free until about two years ago. He entered treatments and finished them early this year. He and Linda came to the national convention in Houston, and it was wonderful for all of us to see him. He was so obviously excited to be back at the convention again. But he became ill after they returned home and eventually was hospitalized.       Tom was a man of faith and a minister, having his own small church in Littleton for a number of years. He was also a staunch, life-long Federationist, holding many offices  at the chapter, state and  national levels, including the Denver Chapter President, the NFB of Kansas state board, and the long-time President of the NFB in Communities of Faith.       Tom was such a good man, a dedicated and patient teacher of Braille to hundreds of blind students over the 27 years he taught at the Center, if also exacting and sometimes stern. He embraced his nickname, “Dr.  Dots,” loved to page students late for his class with, “Henrietta, the dots await your fingers,” and had one of the most endearing and genuine laughs ever heard in the halls of CCB. No one had a laugh like Tom's, and he laughed often and easily.        Julie spoke with Linda this afternoon. At this time, there is no public memorial scheduled. Please send Linda and the family your prayers and positive thoughts.   Rest in peace, dear, kind and loving friend and teacher to so many.”      Fundraisers  Blind Parents Group T-Shirts Fundraiser    The t-shirts come in either black with white letterings or white with black letterings. In this episode of iCantCU, I discuss my experience with the BEP director job application. Despite scoring 95 out of 110 on the test, I received no interview. I also discovered that my references were not contacted. Was the process pre-planned, and the job was just posted for legal reasons? There's speculation that the acting director might have been the intended choice. I expressed surprise at not even receiving a token interview, especially considering my blindness and business background.  I also touch on my participation in an event focused on diabetes and health, organized by Yvonne Hughes. This event is similar to the senior summits she hosts. I trained with Yvonne at CBVI in the Spring. Additionally, I mention participating in the All Blind League's fantasy football draft and using VoiceOver during the draft. You can hear the first round of the draft and a few other clips in Just Listen. Notice the difference in the audio speed from the draft order to the first round.
