What are the implications of these changes, and do Red Hat's actions violate the GPL? Canonical's tight control over the LXD container management project, pulling it back in-house from the open source community which led to a community fork being created called Incus. Companies like MongoDB and Hashicorp are moving away from open source licenses towards "source available" licenses like the Business Source License (BSL) that restrict commercial use.

This "best of" episode features double bassist and contemporary music pioneer Bert Turetzky.  Enjoy, and check out the original episode from 2016 here. About Bert Turetzky Bertram Turetzky has been a distinguished clinician and pedagogue for over three decades, giving master classes, seminars, and workshops nationally and internationally. His knowledge of repertoire, performance style, and his unique approach to technical, psychological, and physical problems has made him a highly sought-after teacher. His master classes have been referred to as "life-altering." Turetzky has been a featured contrabass soloist in the music centers of the United States, Europe, Latin America and Australia. The response to his many concerts, recordings, lectures, writings and his unique sonic vocabulary has taken the contrabass from it's traditional role to assume the position of a major solo instrument. More than 300 compositions have been written for, performed by, and recorded by Turetzky, making him one of the few performers, in all of music history, to have created a large and impressive repertoire of music for his instrument. He is is a prolific recording artist and has recorded for Nonesuch, Finnador, Son Nova, Desto, Music and Art, Incus, 9 winds, Advance, Vanguard, New World, and others as soloist, improvisor, chamber player, Jazz player, orchestra player, and Klezmer artist. He is also an acclaimed scholar/researcher in the fields of Jazz History, 18th Century Chamber Music and the author of many reviews, articles and the now classic book "The Contemporary Contrabass." After the success of his book, Turetzky was named co-editor of "The New Instrumentation Series" [UC Press]. He is also a published composer, editor, transcriber and arranger of music for his instrument. His compositions are published, reviewed and recorded. Turetzky has also received many awards for composition from ASCAP plus grants from the NEA and Meet the Composer as well as many commissions. Contrabass Conversations is sponsored by: The Upton Bass String Instrument Company Upton's Karr Model Upton Double Bass represents an evolution of our popular first Karr model, refined and enhanced with further input from Gary Karr. Since its introduction, the Karr Model with its combination of comfort and tone has gained a loyal following with jazz and roots players. The slim, long “Karr neck” has even become a favorite of crossover electric players. The Bass Violin Shop The Bass Violin Shop offers the Southeast's largest inventory of laminate, hybrid and carved double basses. Whether you are in search of the best entry-level laminate, or a fine pedigree instrument, there is always a unique selection ready for you to try. Trade-ins and consignments welcome! The Chromatic Endpin A straight endpin only lets you balance the bass one way. The Chromatic Endpin opens up many possibilities. You can feel more of the bass's weight, make it feel light as a feather, or anywhere in between. When the bass is balanced, you stand comfortably on two feet with a neutral spine. The instrument feels lighter, is easier to hold, and you're more comfortable.

Episode 1 is all about animal tracking! Josh and Justin discuss the basics of tracking (place, pattern, and print), offer some simple resources and suggestions for the beginning tracker, and go for a walk on a snowy day to find some tracks. Later, we observe on an opossum carcass with School Programs Coordinator Kate "Ladybird" Jordan; students had witnessed a Red-tailed Hawk attack it the day prior, and we check out the aftermath. Finally, we go for a jaunt with Discovery Semester students for Natural History Interpretation, and talk about more animal signs with naturalist Doug Wentzel, including pileated woodpecker holes and porcupine scat! Although this winter may be winding down and giving way to spring, the mud that accompanies the melting snow is another great medium to look for tracks! There's never a better time to start discovering than the present. (Approx. 19 minutes)
