Hamburg's Polycarp Records delivers the ‘Never Ever' EP by Bonn this January, backed with remixes from Johannes Albert and The Cruiser. The Polycarp Records imprint was launched in 2016 by Simon Ferdinand and across its past ten releases has unveiled an array of material from the likes of Pleasant Systems boss Tilman, Frank Music founder Johannes Albert and Simon Ferdinand and Basch both under their own artist names and of course their collaborative project, Bonn. In 2019 Ferdinand and Basch inaugurated their Bonn guise with a debut album entitled ‘Forget Forgot Forgotten', 2021 saw the release of a follow up EP entitled ‘Ravenous' and here the story continues with the pair's latest collaborative works. ‘Phero' opens the flip side and sees Bonn deliver a twitchy house workout fuelled by fidgety synth bleeps, dubbed out chords and bumpy, saturated drums. Tilman is a DJ, producer and label owner based in Mainz, Germany. He runs the longstanding and successful Klamauk label alongside the Fine imprint, a label he co-runs with Johannes Albert. Coming from a hip hop background, Tilman now champions a sound that takes in house, soul, disco and funk. He is an integral part of the Rhein-Main district’s club scene where he plays and hosts club nights. Bookings across the rest of Europe and North America, however, has become a regular feature for him too. We welcome Berlin based Iron Curtis to the series this week with a deep dive of a mix that takes a languid trip through all of his eclectic styles and influences. As a DJ, he is as inspired and versatile as he is a producer, skilfully taking the dancefloor into the deep and diverse corners of modern dance music. We were big fans of his Upstream Colour album last year and we're already looking forward to another round of remixes for that coming soon. He's also been busy in the studio with Session Victim and has a stack of releases already lining up for the likes of Office Recordings and Uncanny Valley. On another tip he's got a side project called Moon – a collaboration with Johannes Albert from Frank Music, where the two friends exhibit their love for classic Electro and stripped down Techno. Hailing from the North, Laurence McAulay is a London based disc jockey who has been steadily piecing together a musical identity amidst the busy capital. He has been a steady figure in the Glasgow dance and electronic music scene for many years having founded the Vicious Creatures party series which has been hosted prominently at Sub Club across many years. More recently he has brought the longstanding venture to London where he has hosted bustling parties at The Waiting Room in East London with the likes of Job Sifre, Oceanic, Johannes Albert and Andy Blake all having joined Lárus behind the decks in his new found home. As a dj his style is broad and varied, channeling energy from the days of trance and hardcore through to the more abstract and dynamic realms of disco, bass, house and techno. Expect the unexpected and you will be sure to learn a trick or two from a man who was brought up with two feet firmly rooted on the dancefloor. #ReclaimEDM Podcast 02 features unique soulful deep-house tracks from around the world, mixed live by DJ nomsta. (www.nomsta.net), featuring tracks by Chewy Rubs, Dubble D presents Moodymanc, Johannes Albert, Vincenzo, Bassart, Michael Mayer, Joe Goddard, MANTU, Salif Keita x Megablast, KERINNIS, Anja Schneider, La Fleur, Gezender and L Cio. The mix starts with the tempo of 116 bpm, as most upbeat funk tracks would similarly be, opening with "Get Down" a remix of the 1978 Gene Chandler song by disco-nu-disco re-editor/producer Chewy Rubs whose most recent release was on Yam Who's Midnight Riot label, I let the funk flow keeping all the tracks strictly at 116 bpm for a steady deepburn groove. Mixing by looping in the claps and vocal one shot of 2007 old-but-gold 20:20 Vision release of "Wiggle" by Manchester jazz drummer house producer Moodymanc aka Dubble D, the track has this vintage deep house, perfect to follow with more of the 80s-electro Chicago feeling by Johannes Albert's Hip Edits of the 1987 Mickey Oliver song "Never Let Go" featuring the vocals of Shanna Jay with updated kicks and bassline. 20-something years old Italian Corrado Bucci is a bit of a wonder child/posterboy of the jazzy-soulful house circles with his sophisticated productions seeing pressings from top quality labels like Compost, Defected, Local Talk and BBE Music, who also does A&R and scouting now for Japanese label Rebirth Records where he signed his debut to in 2012. Soulful deep house Berliner Vincenzo gave an uplifting remix to Bucci's "Sumthin'" which is a great filler to bridge to Dortmund/Berlin label Raving Society's dubby synthy lush electro release of "Innstruments" by fellow German Bassart. Indie-electro band Hot Chip's member and vocalist Joe Goddard has been putting out solo material since around 2009 and has formed a bit of a production partnership with Kompakt Records' co-owner and veteran Michael Mayer, so it's not surprising to see him providing a remix to Goddard's latest release on Domino "Children". I had to play a cheeky bootleg of Malinese "Golden Voice of Africa" Salif Keita's ode to women and feminism in Africa, "Moussolou", which also features female Malinese singer Oumou Sangare. Osunlade did an official Yoruba Soul mix of the song but it has a more organic feel although it's till a deep house track, I like the club feel of Megablast's re-edit which is really more like a remix. A bit of trivia about "Wassoulou sound" of Mali - since their independence in the 60's, the Wassoulou region of Mali has produced many strong female musicians creating new music based on their traditional dances and rhythms combined with the djembe drums and a harp-like instrument invented by local youths during this period called the kamalengoni, which gave birth to music unique to Wassoulou that communicates a sense of youthful rebellion and freedom. 2nd half of the mix goes deeper into deeper house and quite accidentally stringing a list of Berlin based artists together. I'm very excited about Berlin-based Get Physical artist MANTU aka Manuel Overbeck who has started his own label Raving Society and has signed some outstanding releases of late. His very own "Underwater Solution" has been described as melancholic but I think it's just the deep jazzy chords and bassline doing its thing. I also got sent a promo EP that includes a dreamy spoken word deep house number "Poetry Jam" by another Berlin producer Kerinnis. (www.nomsta.net), featuring tracks by Chewy Rubs, Dubble D presents Moodymanc, Johannes Albert, Vincenzo, Bassart, Michael Mayer, Joe Goddard, MANTU, Salif Keita x Megablast, KERINNIS, Anja Schneider, La Fleur, Gezender and L Cio. The mix starts with the tempo of 116 bpm, as most upbeat funk tracks would similarly be, opening with "Get Down" a remix of the 1978 Gene Chandler song by disco-nu-disco re-editor/producer Chewy Rubs whose most recent release was on Yam Who's Midnight Riot label, I let the funk flow keeping all the tracks strictly at 116 bpm for a steady deepburn groove. Mixing by looping in the claps and vocal one shot of 2007 old-but-gold 20:20 Vision release of "Wiggle" by Manchester jazz drummer house producer Moodymanc aka Dubble D, the track has this vintage deep house, perfect to follow with more of the 80s-electro Chicago feeling by Johannes Albert's Hip Edits of the 1987 Mickey Oliver song "Never Let Go" featuring the vocals of Shanna Jay with updated kicks and bassline. 20-something years old Italian Corrado Bucci is a bit of a wonder child/posterboy of the jazzy-soulful house circles with his sophisticated productions seeing pressings from top quality labels like Compost, Defected, Local Talk and BBE Music, who also does A&R and scouting now for Japanese label Rebirth Records where he signed his debut to in 2012. Soulful deep house Berliner Vincenzo gave an uplifting remix to Bucci's "Sumthin'" which is a great filler to bridge to Dortmund/Berlin label Raving Society's dubby synthy lush electro release of "Innstruments" by fellow German Bassart. Indie-electro band Hot Chip's member and vocalist Joe Goddard has been putting out solo material since around 2009 and has formed a bit of a production partnership with Kompakt Records' co-owner and veteran Michael Mayer, so it's not surprising to see him providing a remix to Goddard's latest release on Domino "Children". I had to play a cheeky bootleg of Malinese "Golden Voice of Africa" Salif Keita's ode to women and feminism in Africa, "Moussolou", which also features female Malinese singer Oumou Sangare. Osunlade did an official Yoruba Soul mix of the song but it has a more organic feel although it's till a deep house track, I like the club feel of Megablast's re-edit which is really more like a remix. A bit of trivia about "Wassoulou sound" of Mali - since their independence in the 60's, the Wassoulou region of Mali has produced many strong female musicians creating new music based on their traditional dances and rhythms combined with the djembe drums and a harp-like instrument invented by local youths during this period called the kamalengoni, which gave birth to music unique to Wassoulou that communicates a sense of youthful rebellion and freedom. 2nd half of the mix goes deeper into deeper house and quite accidentally stringing a list of Berlin based artists together. I'm very excited about Berlin-based Get Physical artist MANTU aka Manuel Overbeck who has started his own label Raving Society and has signed some outstanding releases of late. His very own "Underwater Solution" has been described as melancholic but I think it's just the deep jazzy chords and bassline doing its thing. I also got sent a promo EP that includes a dreamy spoken word deep house number "Poetry Jam" by another Berlin producer Kerinnis.
