I've mentioned my amazing business coach several times on the podcast and I think it's time for you to finally meet her! In this episode, I have Kathryn Binkley, the CEO and Founder of Scale to Seven® Kathryn has over fifteen years of experience in marketing and operations consulting, and knows what it takes to help a business scale. She's started her company back in 2015 to provide coaching and education for online business owners looking to elevate to CEO-level status. Since then, she has led high-performing cross-functional teams to scale hundreds of businesses. Honestly, I've been working with Kathryn for the last year and the impact that she has had on my business has been EXPONENTIAL! If I just think about where we were a year ago to where we are today... gosh. The difference is night and day. We used to be in kind of a tricky place with our team. Now? We have 18 full-time team members! The backend for our different processes, systems, and all that stuff was, at best, just okay. Like, it was like a solid okay. But now, when people join our team, they're always, "Wow, everything is really organized and really clear on the back end of things!" And that is in large part due to Kathryn Binkley and her being an absolute genius at what she does. Suffice to say, we have a great conversation in store for you today! One of my favorite things that she has helped me with is really to create more space in my life and in my calendar. Kathryn also shares her exact process for creating more space and freeing up your time in your business and different things that you should be focusing on and not focusing on! Bursting at the seams with excitement and just ready to learn how to elevate yourself to thriving CEO and scale your business to seven-figures? Then make sure you tune in and connect with us later, friend! " I think so often we think that or we just allow - unintentionally - our schedules to dictate themselves. We just say yes to things or we think that they're important and they have to happen. And our schedules just create themselves versus us really stepping into that ownership role, that CEO role and saying, 'NO, this is what I want my schedule to look like.' - Kathryn Binkley What you'll learn in this episode: Who is Kathryn Binkley and how her entrepreneurial journey began How to create more space using Kathryn's S.P.A.C.E. method How Kathryn tracks and optimizes the departments in her business The importance of building and organizing your business for scalability What you can do to step into your CEO role with ease and confidence Links in this episode: Kathryn Binkley's website Scale to Seven® Podcast Kathryn Binkley on social media: Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest More resources to help you free more space in your life and uplevel your business: 4-Day Workweek (FREE Workbook) by Kathryn Binkley How to Build A Thriving Team One Year Anniversary of 100 Degrees of Entrepreneurship Grow Your Business with Tiny Offers
Do you really know your target audience? On this week's episode of the Scale to Seven® podcast, I talk about how you can go beyond the facade and understand your target audience on a deeper level. Learning about their demographics isn't enough. You might also be figuring out their psychographics (values, attitudes, pain points, desires) or behaviors (where they hang out, what they like to do, their hobbies, their daily routine). But again, is this enough if you want to change their lives? You need to understand how they are thinking, before you try to sell them anything. Buyers are liars, but not necessarily intentionally. "To understand what you need to tell your audience, you must first understand what they are telling themselves. Many people are telling themselves a story - a story that may not even necessarily be true." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven For example, a potential client might say, "I'm going to try doing this on my own". A typical entrepreneur might try to sell them something and explain how it'll get them results faster. Meanwhile, the prospect is doubting whether the result is even possible for them at all and is feeling afraid to waste an investment. "It's your job to know what your audience is thinking. You need to become a mind reader. Mind readers change lives. Knowing what your audience is actually thinking will help them get out of their own way and start getting results." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Do your research. Talk to your audience, put yourself in their shoes and plan ahead to really understand what they may be thinking. You need to focus on the very next step - what's the smallest next step that you want them to take? It's just clicking on an ad, just opting in, just reading the page... Here are 5 things you need to understand about your target audience before you can ask them to do anything: 1. Current Situation Where are they now? What's their current situation? 2. Thoughts What are they telling themselves? What are their fears? doubts? What do they need to think to move forward? 3. Feelings How do they feel now? How do they need to feel to take action? How do they want to feel? 4. Actions What are they currently doing (or not doing)? What actions do they need to take? 5. Results What are their current results? What results do they want? What results can they expect? What's possible for them? You can change lives and make a difference by looking behind the curtains and reading between the lines. Knowing your target audience at a deeper level is how you can get them to take action. Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! As the new quarter kicks off, the Scale to Seven® podcast talks about asking the question WHO instead of how when planning to achieve a new goal or milestone in your business. A typical strategic plan usually looks at where you are now, where you want to be and HOW you're going to get there. But I realized there's a step that traditional strategic planning skips. Before you decide how, focus on WHO. Who do you need to become to accomplish your goals? "The rate in which your business grows is dependent on your personal growth. Before your business can grow, you must grow." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven I encourage you to do these 3 exercises to help you explore who you need to become in order for your business to grow: 1. Million Dollar You Let's say that your next revenue milestone is hitting your first million. If your name were Molly, ask yourself: Who the Million Dollar Molly would need to be? What characteristics does she have? What does she spend her time thinking and doing? How does she make decisions? Where do you need to grow to develop into Million Dollar Molly? 2. The Hat Exercise Imagine different hats you could wear - firefighter, detective, surgeon, party hat, etc. In order to reach your goals, what's the one hat that you should: -keep wearing? -stop wearing? -start wearing? Maybe you need to keep wearing your party hat and focus on having fun in your business. Maybe you need to stop wearing your firefighter hat and stop running around and putting out all the fires. Maybe you need to start wearing a detective hat and figure out where you can optimize to get better results. 3. Self-Concept Exercise Think of a mentor or an influencer or a successful business owner - someone you look up to who has achieved what you'd like to achieve. Then, think of a goal that you want to reach this quarter- it can be launching a mastermind, writing a book or doubling your revenue for example. Choose one goal and have one specific person in mind. Imagine that this person had the same goal as you. I want you to notice your thoughts about this person trying to accomplish what it is that you want to accomplish. (For example: it would be easy for her, she'd sell out in a day...) Now, examine your thoughts about YOU achieving that goal. Does it feel different for you? Why do you think differently about what's possible for you? It all comes back to your self-concept. Who do you need to be to make it easy for you to accomplish your goals? Ultimately, your personal growth is the key to executing well, following through on the how, and scaling your business. Set clear goals for the quarter, but don't forget to look at who in addition to the how. Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! Not having enough time, working too much, facing multiple distractions, over delivering, managing client expectations.. are these familiar to you? Those are just some of the symptoms of lack of boundaries. If setting proper boundaries is a challenge you face, this episode of the Scale to Seven podcast is for you. First, let's look at a typical work day for a business owner struggling with boundaries: Wakes up and immediately checks and responds to email/messages Dives into urgent tasks and ignores top priorities Hops into a meeting that took longer than it's supposed to be Says yes to a client's request that is out of scope, and even volunteers to do more Accepts a client's request for an impromptu meeting Immediately responding to notifications from team members, clients and potential clients Before you know it, it's 5PM and you haven't even touched your so-called "priorities". So you either push them to tomorrow or sacrifice personal time to get them done. Is this you?? "Boundaries are not about changing someone else's behavior. They're about communicating your request, and what you will do in response." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven There are two things that I want you to keep in mind about boundaries: 1. Boundaries are for you. It's about what you will do, not trying to change others. 2. You have to be willing to follow through. You have to stick to your set boundaries. I encourage you to take some time to audit your day through the lens of healthy boundaries. Look at how you can better communicate and follow through on the boundaries you have set in both business and life. See you next week! There's something very interesting that happens when we start anything new. With any new program or project, our brains immediately judge the idea and decide whether to move forward. Often, our brains decide it's too hard. In this episode of Scale to Seven® podcast, I share with you how to figure out what will feel easy, fun, light and inspired so you can move forward. What's feeling hard to you right now? Maybe you're like the clients I work with every day who find it hard to make pivots in their businesses or to manage their teams or to sell their programs. I want you to think of the thing that you're putting off and spending countless hours on, letting it drag on way longer than necessary, or the thing that you're dreading. Do you have something in mind? Now, what if it were easy? Because it gets to be easy! In fact, it is easy- it's your brain that is making it harder than it needs to be. A client of mine recently told me how easily she can book clients into her program, but a week later she came back and told me how hard it was to sell that same program. It's funny how she had a change of heart, so I reminded her and we talked about how it could feel easy because truthfully, it's just all in her head. She wanted to change the program she was promoting, but I saw a thought pattern. I predicted that if she switched gears, she would get excited again in the short-term, and then as soon as things weren't going perfectly - she'd decide it was hard again. "When we have the mindset of things being too hard, we continually come back to it. We can change external circumstances thinking that's going to solve the problem, and it doesn't." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Again, it gets to be easy. It's your choice to make it hard or to make it easy. When it starts to feel hard, ask yourself, "What if this were easy?" Then start moving forward! Don't hold yourself back from taking any action because you feel it's too hard. It doesn't mean it will always be easy. Of course, there will be discomfort and struggle sometimes, but you need to push through. Stop overcomplicating things and start having some fun! Choose easy. Go ahead, take action and get it done. Keep in mind, it gets to be easy. Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! Listen + Subscribe on Apple Podcasts or Stitcher! Do hiring and delegating take more of your time instead of freeing up your schedule? Before you get frustrated, listen to this episode of the Scale to Seven® podcast! This week, I delve into why hiring and delegating have lasting rewards for your business and how you can let go and lead. This topic reminded me of a conversation I had over 2 years ago. Does this question sound familiar to you: "I'm feeling like I'm quickly closing my openness to outsourcing. I keep wanting to take everything back. What do you do when something you've outsourced is not what you want and you feel like you'd rather no one touch it but you?" My response is this: "Bear with me here. I've been there and done that, and learned some things along the way that may be helpful. I have high expectations. Quality is extremely important to me, and I've had a tendency to pull back in the past and just do it myself. Sometimes, doing it myself felt like the right thing to do in the short term.. but long term, it didn't payoff." Here's what I learned: setting your expectations upfront is key when leading a team, whether outsourced or not. It isn't fair to expect that everything will be done exactly as you would because they're not you. "Sometimes, delegating is about getting help from someone who can do something better than you. But other times, it's about freeing you up to do things that ONLY YOU can do or that will bring in MORE REVENUE." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Weigh the opportunity cost. What does it free you up to do? Are you willing to sacrifice doing things that someone else could do for opportunities which have larger overall gain and more chance to grow? If your answer is yes, here are the two steps you need to take: 1. Set and communicate expectations - What are the goals, guidelines, non-negotiables and standards they should adhere to? 2. Create a feedback loop - Review and measure their work against the agreed upon expectations. Provide feedback and clarifications. This is not a walk in the park, especially for perfectionists. Rather than taking control back, take on the leadership role and coach them up to meet your expectations. Investing in people takes a little time before you see the return. After giving it some time, if they're still not meeting your set expectations, they may not be the right fit. But that doesn't mean you should to give up on delegating or outsourcing altogether. Give people space to do what they're experts in and shift your role from the one implementing everything to the one leading. If you're struggling to let go, I encourage you to step up into your role as a LEADER. Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! Before packing your bags for a well-deserved summer vacation, have you made sure that your business can pass the freedom test? On this week's episode of the Scale to Seven® podcast, I share with you the steps that you can take in order for your business to run smoothly even when you're away. Are you one of those entrepreneurs who can't even imagine going away for a day because your business will implode without you? But wasn't freedom the goal when you created your business? As I record this episode, one of my clients is on maternity leave and her business is running without her. Leading up to her maternity leave, we prepped her business to be self-sustaining for weeks! To help you achieve more freedom for yourself and your business, here's an outline of the steps that I took with my client to prepare her business for her leave: 1. Create systems. Everything required to run the day-to-day of your business must be systematized so that the business doesn't depend on you, or anyone else, to know how to do something. 2. Delegate. Audit everything that needs to be done in your business and if someone else can do it, delegate it. 3. Batch create what ONLY YOU can do. If there are things that only you can do like recording a podcast or creating a video, batch those ahead of time so that the work is done in advance. 4. Determine criteria for communication. Limit your contact to ONE person who can reach out to you while you're on vacation- only if needed. Talk with that person in advance on what warrants them reaching out. Then, unplug from all regular forms of business communication so that you'll only be contacted when you're really needed. If you feel like you need to regularly check-in, define specific times and communicate those times to your team in advance so they can be prepared to answer any questions and to give updates. 5. Check out. Truly back off and let your business run without you! Trust your business, team and processes. 6. Don't expect perfection. "Expect things won't go perfectly! The only way to see the gaps is to step back and let mistakes happen." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let your team work things out and don't step in unless the business will truly implode. Give your business the freedom test and see if it passes. Enjoy your next vacation! Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! Here's a short but sweet episode of the Scale to Seven® podcast where I dive in to handling customer service issues while scaling your business. The number of customer service issues rises when a business is scaling.. and that's completely normal! More customers coming in will naturally lead to more customer service issues. You cannot please everyone. Issues are inevitable. Here are three rules that you can implement in order to protect your energy: 1. All customer service issues should be directed to ONE email. Receiving customer service concerns should not be spread out over various platforms. Ideally, there should only be one hub or one email. 2. Someone else should field all those customer service emails. You should not even see them unless there's an issue that must be escalated and there's no one else to handle it. Your business cannot afford your non-customer service team members to be bombarded with customer issues that will cause them to doubt the transformation that you offer and to drop their confidence level and enthusiasm. 3. Set policies, draft templates to common issues, automate wherever possible and consistently enforce. "Take the guess work out of your company policies. No special circumstances. No case by case decisions. The rules apply to everyone. It's not personal, it's policy." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven My advice is to implement these three rules now because one day you'll need them. It's safer to be ready now than to be sorry later! Hooray! You survived a launch! But is it really over yet? Many entrepreneurs skip out on the important steps after the launch... which is only the beginning of your relationship with your new customers. Apart from welcoming your new customers, here are 8 tips for after the launch: 1. Pass the baton. Even before the launch starts, communicate with the Fulfillment or Client/Customer Success Team to share the plans and tasks that'll need to be completed after the launch. 2. Map out the customer experience. From the point where customers sign up, every step of their journey should be mapped out and a timeline should be established. 3. Set clear expectations from the beginning and over communicate. Start communicating expectations and next steps with your new customers from the Thank You page, then continue to provide the important details through the onboarding process. You can do this in many ways including in an email sequence, getting started guide in the members area and posts in online community. 4. Surprise and delight. Throw in some bonuses or hold a special event like a welcome party. Be creative! 5. Prep the Customer Service team. Before the launch, establish clear terms and conditions, anticipate a higher volume of people who will need support, and make sure that the Customer Service Team is all on the same page. 6. Hold a formal launch debrief. Review all launch statistics and talk with the team on what went well and what didn't. This is also an opportunity to discuss what can be improved for your next launch. 7. Archive all launch assets for future reference. This includes everything (copy, images, project plans, metrics, etc.) that led you to a successful launch and that you will want to have on file for next time. 8. Rest. After all the hard work, you absolutely need some self-care to recharge! "After the launch is just as, if not, actually more important than the launch itself!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Remember not to skip these 8 important steps for your next launch. "Launch Hangovers" sometimes feels like an indescribable high followed by an intense crash... after a launch! In this episode of the Scale to Seven® podcast, I share the two types of launch hangovers. My clients who recently had a wildly successful launch caught me by surprise by using the phrase "launch hangover". If launching isn't new to you, you might be able to spill a few post-launch horror stories of your own. I was a bit triggered by this phrase, until I realized there are actually two very different kinds of launch hangovers: 1. The first type is the launch hangover I thought of first. It reminds of a college girl during finals week who had little sleep, wore the same clothes everyday and chugged energy drinks to make it through the week. She was all on her own because it was all up to her to pass her exams. Then one day, she wakes up with puke in her hair after partying too hard. Does this kind of launch sound familiar to you? It's the kind where you hustle to do too many tasks the day of, stay up until wee hours of the morning and get up early to do it all over again, face tech troubles and forget things. By the end of the launch, you don't care how much you sold because you just want it over. 2. To me, the second type of launch hangover is like the morning after my wedding. I remember feeling like I was on cloud 9. I was exhausted, but in a different way. I planned all the details of my wedding well in advance and I hired people to execute the day of. I just showed up to do what only I needed to do- I walked down the aisle, said "I do", danced, and stayed up late to celebrate it all. This is the kind of launch hangover that I want you to have! As an integrator, I work in advance to streamline launches- systematizing, automating and delegating- so that my clients can enjoy the launch. This requires planning, assigning tasks, writing and scheduling launch content, setting clear roles for each team member, and prepping everything in advance so that there's time to test before the cart opens. A launch should look like this: staying up late but only so you could countdown and celebrate the launch numbers, taking note of - but not feeling crushed by the things that can be improved, and feeling exhausted from showing up fully and with wide-open energy and from giving your launch everything you've got! My clients made over 6-figures in 5 days. The team celebrated every single milestone during the launch. We were literally counting down to our goal and watching as we blew passed it. This is the what-a-launch-should-feel-like kind of a hangover! "Do yourself a favor and prep for your launch ahead of time, so you can focus on showing up, going all out and celebrating during." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Cheers in advance to your next successful launch! Org charts matter more than you think. Whether you're the only person in your business or you've hired several contractors or team members, you NEED an org chart. In this episode, I talk about why you need one and how you can create a future org chart that you can start using today! Here are the 3 reasons why you need an org chart for your business: 1. Creating an org chart provides tremendous clarity around how your business is structured and therefore, how your work, projects, files and more should be organized. 2. An org chart assigns clear accountability in your business. It lets you know who is responsible for each and every result, project, task, and ultimately, the management of all of the people along the way. 3. An org chart points out inefficiencies. Do you already have an org chart? I'll help you create yours today! I share with you a common structure that I implement with my clients. It would be really helpful to listen to last week's episode where I discuss in detail the four types of people you need to scale to 7-figures. Your org chart will start with the Visionary, who is typically the founder and CEO, at the top. Below the Visionary is the Integrator or COO who manages the day-to-day and reports directly to the Visionary. Under the Integrator, I recommend starting with these three departments, all of which will have a director role that serves as a strategist and manager for the department: 1. Growth This includes marketing and sales. It is responsible for growth in both reach of your prospective clients and revenue. 2. Operations This handles all necessary functions for running the day-to-day of the business, as well as, efficiency and quality control. It supports both growth and fulfillment initiatives. 3. Fulfillment or Client/Customer Success This involves delivering the promise made to your clients/customers. Under this department is where all of your services, programs and products are managed and fulfilled. It is responsible for customer experience and retention. Under each department, list the specific roles for the tacticians in your business. They are the team members who handle specific roles or tasks under each department. When doing this, DO NOT think about the people already on your team or list their names, but instead map out the org chart purely based on roles. Don't structure your business around your team, align your team members to the structure that your business needs. As a Visionary, you may be serving in multiple roles in your business because you haven't yet hired someone in those roles. By defining your org chart based on roles and not team members, you're able to see where the gaps are. "Map out your org chart to reflect the team that you need to get to 7-figures, not the team that you have now. One team member at a time, scale your business to 7-figures!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! Building the right team is an important factor in scaling. In this episode of the Scale to Seven® podcast, I share with you the four types of people you need on your team in order to successfully scale your business. 1. Visionary This refers to the CEO or founder of the business. The Visionary is a high level, conceptual thinker who sees what is possible. They are the creative spark in the company! More emotionally driven, the Visionary is responsible for casting vision, communicating values and shaping the culture of the business. Building external relationships and learning about their industry are also part of their roles. The Visionary thinks and rethinks what's possible when expanding the business. If you are an entrepreneur, the Visionary is YOUR role and this is a FULL TIME role. You have to let go of other roles and hire people who are better suited for those roles. 2. Integrator The Integrator makes it happen. They are the right hand of the Visionary and serve as the COO. Usually behind the scenes, they run the day to day of the business. The Integrator is responsible for growing the business, holding everything together and making sure everyone is held accountable. They are more focused internally by creating clarity and building consistency in order to drive results. As opposed to the Visionary, the Integrator is more logically driven and creates efficiencies, processes and systems. Since the Visionary sparks a lot of ideas which may create chaos in the business, the Integrator serves as a filter by helping prioritize, removing obstacles and resolving issues. 3. Strategist You need a Strategist for each major function or department (or even within each of the function or department) in your business. They are responsible for planning, managing and measuring results. They're not best suited to carry out the detailed tasks, that's why you need the fourth type in your business. 4. Tacticians They are the ones who execute. They are told what needs to be done and they get things done. Tacticians are hard workers who carry out and complete tasks specific to their roles. Do you have all four types in your business? Right now, you may be serving in all roles in your business and you might think that you are supposed to be great at all of them, but your business needs you in the CEO role. Hiring a team is not an overnight process, but you can start by making a commitment to take steps in the right direction today! "Until you let go of everything outside the Visionary role, you are absolutely holding your business back from what is truly possible." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Tune in the next episode to learn how to create your future org chart. In business, "scaling" is a word that's thrown around a lot! But did you know that this word has two very different meanings? The first definition of scaling is "to climb up and over to reach a certain height". This is like when you do something for the first time, or you figure out what works in order to reach your first 6-figures. You're literally climbing one step at a time- testing different grips and footholds, and trying not to look back or look down. Your journey to 6-figures involves trying different strategies, offers, niches, messaging and more to see what works. This is the DIY phase of scaling. You may not realize that you're adding too much to your plate and it's weighing you down. In this phase you are likely hustling to make progress. The second definition of scaling is "to increase in proportional dimension" or doing more of what already works and creating repeatable results. This phase is what will get you to 7-figures. Scaling to 7-figures is what I help my clients with, using the STAR Method: 1. Systems - Creating and documenting systems that work and can be repeated over and over. 2. Team - Entrusting others to run various aspects of your business. 3. Automation - Getting the right tools in place that save you and your team time. 4. Recurring Revenue - Building the safety net of ongoing revenue that you can rely on. It's important to know what stage you are in because, using scaling strategies that don't match where you are will keep you stuck. Think of the first phase as "addition" while the second phase as "multiplication". Remember that during the first phase, you're still trying to figure out what works. If you use the second phase strategies here, it's like multiplying by zero, hence, you'll get zero results! One of the common mistakes of entrepreneurs is implementing advanced strategies too soon in their business. Once you're ready to implement the second phase, you can start multiplying but not by using the first phase strategies. It'll be like constantly adding zeros and hoping to see growth in your business. If you continue to hustle, you're going to burnout because it's not getting you where you want to go. "You need to know where you are in your business, and make sure that you're implementing the strategies that match the stage of scaling that you're in." -Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven If you are a 6-figure business owner and you're ready to shift to Phase 2 and experience exponential growth, sign up to my FREE workshop where I teach 6 Steps to Get to 7-Figures and break down the 7 Elements of My 7-Figure System here. MEET THE GUEST: Kathryn Binkley is an Integrator/Digital COO for visionary, growth-minded entrepreneurs scaling from 6 to 7 figures and the host of the In Light of Success™ podcast. After 10 successful years in the marketing agency world, Kathryn ventured out to truly take control of the impact she could have on those craving success, flexibility, happiness and financial freedom. And she hasn’t looked back since. Now five years later, Kathryn spends her days helping entrepreneurs solve their biggest business challenges, move past their mindset blocks, plan and implement high performance strategies that drive results and unlock their true business potential. With her no-nonsense, tough love approach and 15 plus years of experience, it’s never long before Kathryn’s clients begin to build a self-sustaining, wildly profitable business and a life that lights them up. WHERE TO FIND KATHRYN ONLINE: Website - https://www.alyght.com/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/groups/withkathrynbinkley/ Instagram - @kathryn__binkley EPISODE SUMMARY: In this tell-all episode of the Market Like A Boss podcast, I have a very special guest who has been a huge part of my business and life, Kathryn Binkley! She has been working with me for 2 years as my business coach and now serves as an integrator in my business - which is a high-level role equivalent to a COO that oversees/consults on all aspects of the business and integrates/streamlines all departments. How cool is it that I'm able to share with you my coach's perspective on where I was at when I started my business and my journey to where I am at now! When I first jumped into a discovery call with Kathryn, I immediately thought that I have to hire her because I knew she was the person I'm supposed to work with. I can honestly say that I would never have been where I am now if it had not been for her guidance and support. In this episode, Kathryn shares her views on some of my struggles early in my business...the same ones you might also be experiencing (like taking on clients who are not a good fit, undercharging, and being responsible for your client's success). Kathryn also talks about how she approached my situation and helped me shift my mindset. Increasing my awareness on how I was thinking, as well as identifying facts versus feelings have allowed me to navigate through difficult circumstances and decisions. She has also helped me realize that things have to get messy in order for growth to happen. Kathryn and I also discussed the growth of my business - from charging $80 an hour to hitting my first $10K month, and now becoming a 6-figure business owner. With Kathryn’s support, I have come to realize my real worth and have gained confidence in my ability to serve my dream clients! Money is great, but what's more important is how my success has impacted my life. I now have a new home where we're raising a family and making memories together. I have also created jobs through my company and I'm able to invest in my community. "It ultimately comes down to choosing what you want. Getting really crystal clear on what you want out of life means defining success for yourself. You have to realize that you not just desire success but you also deserve it." -Kathryn Binkley Don't be afraid of investing in yourself and business. Kathryn was the first investment that I made for my business and I made that initial investment back within two months of signing on with her. Every time I invest in something, I rise to the next level. That’s because I act like the woman who’s already hit her goal vs. waiting for validation once I hit the goal. The last lesson Kathryn shared during the episode - and the most important - is that you can change your situation at any moment. If you’re not where you want to be, try this exercise: write down all the reasons why you can't reach whatever goal you have in your business. Then go back and identify how you are choosing to adopt these beliefs. If you want to grow in your business, then you need to take responsibility for your thoughts and your actions. I hope this episode inspired you and showed you what’s possible with the right support! Connect with Market Like a Boss! If you think that spending a lot of time creating a ton of content will attract your dream clients and turn them into paying customers... then you're committing one of the most common mistakes in content marketing! In this episode, I tell you how you can create high quality content that will connect with your audience and convert them into sales. Before you post on your social media or plan your next Facebook Live or launch your own podcast, ask yourself these questions and check if your content marketing is really giving you the results you want: Is my content strategic and aligned to my goals? Am I creating quality content AND putting it in front of my audience? Is my content valuable to my audience? Does my content bridge the gap between the needs of my audience and the solution I provide? Am I consistently sharing my content in terms of timing and frequency? Does my content attract my dream clients and keep them coming back for more? Do I have a clearly defined audience? Does my content drive profitable customer action? "Content marketing can and will grow your business as long as you aren't going about it the wrong way. Your focus should not be on quantity but instead, every piece of content you create should be created with purpose. If your social media channels are looking like a ghost town, then it's time to shake things up a bit by keeping your social media content flowing! Coming up with fresh content to publish on social media can be a struggle, and being consistent is another story. So much time can be consumed if you don't have a surefire system for continuously posting new content on your channels. In this episode, I'm sharing four types of social media content which can work together as a simple system to maximize your reach without taking a ton of your time. Newly published content from other platforms If you are consistently publishing new content on other platforms such as blog, podcast or even prerecorded video series, let your audience know through social media! This is great to keep them in the loop about what's new to check out. Recurring content What's amazing about this type of content is once it's set-up, you're good to go! This is a no sweat way of stretching the reach of your existing content and posting consistently without too much effort because the tool automatically does it for you. Themed content This type works best if you want to promote a free or paid product or service, and drive leads and sales to your business. I recommend choosing one specific theme each week that is aligned with your offer and revolve your content around it. Repurposed content All you need to do is be creative when repurposing your old content. For example, share a clip of your Facebook Live on Instagram Stories or a quote from a blog post on your Facebook Page. "You need to know where your audience is and focus in on one or two social media channels. It's better to focus on one channel and do it really well." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven All four types of content together make planning out your content a repeatable and simple system. But here's the thing, social content is only one aspect of content marketing. If you want a system for all of your content that connects and converts your audience, the Content to Cash mini-course is perfect for you! I'll teach you step-by-step how to create a plan for your content marketing that converts to cash. Grab your copy of the Content to Cash 5-Day Challenge here! Are you ready to make a dramatic shift from dreaming to achieving? It breaks my heart to watch many entrepreneurs who are holding back their success for so long because all they do is dream. The worst part is they may not actually think that they're just dreaming. Are you one of those entrepreneurs who participate in webinars, conferences, courses.. and even get help from coaches, but months or years have passed and you're still stuck? In this episode I'm sharing three things that may be keeping you away from your inevitable success! Lack of Clarity You need clarity on what success looks like for you and how to get there. Having a vague vision is one thing, but knowing EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT is another. A clear path on how to get what you want can be created only after envisioning your success in detail. Unbelief Believe in yourself! You have to stop doubting yourself or fearing failure. Negative thoughts surely won't take you to the success you've always been dreaming. START believing in your potential and STOP comparing yourself to others along the way. Inaction Always choose imperfect action over inaction or passive action. Even if your actions are not perfect, they still bring you closer to your goals because what's important is you LEARN from them and apply those lessons to the future. "Listen, it's not enough to know what to do.. it's not enough to keep dreaming. You have to take action, and not just any action - massive action, action that will directly impact your success." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Which of these three are you missing? You need all three, and habits to support each so they are sustainable and consistent. Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! You may have noticed that we have a new name! I absolutely love this new direction. In the next episode I'll share why the change was needed, but today I want to focus on the meaning of the new name. As entrepreneurs, we make countless decisions every day, both in business and life. We decide on... promotions pricing content colors ad spend hiring firing when to work when to take time off what to invest in how to handle a myriad of firs which ideas to pursue which ideas to save for later and on and on! And when making these decisions, we can view the options through different lenses. Sometimes we make decisions through the lens of fear. We're consumed by worst case scenarios, or choose the option that seems the safest. While this was incredibly helpful to our ancestors who first and foremost needed to survive, it often does more harm than good when considering your potential and your dreams. So instead, look at things through the lens of success. Ask yourself this question... What decision would I make in light of success? "What question would I make in light of success?" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven I love this question because it first forces us to define success and this question works universally because every single person can define success differently. You may recall in an earlier episode that in order to get what you want, you must first KNOW WHAT YOU WANT. And that goes for any and every situation in life. So, what would a successful day look like for you? What would success look like in your business this year, this quarter, this month, this week, today, in the next hour, in your next launch? What would success look like in your marriage, your finances, your health, your parenting, your vacation, your errands? There's nothing too big or too small for this question. What does success look like for you? Once success is defined, you can then ask - what decision would I make in light of success. NOT... in light of fear, or settling for less, or what someone else wants, or the easy way out. What would you do in light of your inevitable success? Because it is inevitable when you are intentional, make decisions base on, live your life and run your business by filtering everything through your definition of success. "What would you do in light of your inevitable success? Because it is inevitable when you are intentional, make decisions base on, live your life and run your business by filtering everything through your definition of success." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven This is the question to ask as you build a business and life that light you up. And it's my mission to be an example of this and to empower you to do the same. So, here's to living life in light of success! I want you to think back to when your first started your business. What was your reason why? Maybe it was to get away from an awful job or to spend more time with your kids? Maybe it was because you were tired of working crazy hours or on the weekends? Whatever the reason for initially starting, I want you to ask yourself now, it is still the reason that you have your business today. Because here is what I know to be true. Often times, the reason that you started your business, isn't the reason that will sustain you. You need a stronger why to carry you through. It was enough of a reason for you to take that initial leap into starting your business, but it might not be enough to keep your going. Sure, it lit that initial fire but you need two different kinds of whys to keep you going! 1. Generous Why Your generous why is the why you do what you do for others. This could be for your immediate family or your target audience and the impact that you want to make in the world. I'm sure you've heard of many different companies that donate their proceeds to charity or use their free time to volunteer. There are a lot of ways to express your generous why and that can be really exciting! It can really drive you and give you that sense of purpose that we all need in our business. 2. Selfish Why Having a generous why is not the only why that you need and it's not going to help you sustain the toughest times in your business. The times where business is freaking hard! There are seasons of business where you have to press on and you need a selfish why to keep you going. When I talk about a selfish why, this can be anything that is the reason for YOU to keep going in business. It can be based on your passion because you get to do what lights you up. It can be the freedom that you create for yourself. It can also be the financial gain. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to make money in your business! I encourage you to dig deeper to know how you'll spend that money once received. "There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to make money in your business!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Once you know your generous and selfish whys, be sure to revisit them at least quarterly. Once you achieve the why you set out initially, celebrate and think about how you can play bigger. When you think you're playing big, you can play bigger! This episode is the final of four in a compilation series highlighting groups of high achievers with similar goals. Today, our guests are Claudette Rowley, Brandi Anderson and Kathryn Binkley.Kathryn Binkley is a business strategist and mindset coach on a mission to help female entrepreneurs live their best lives by creating wildly profitable businesses. She speaks on limiting beliefs and mindset when she says, "We often limit ourselves due to things we accept as "facts" when in reality those are stories we've told ourselves and come to believe were true. When we do this we're truly limiting our potential and dumbing down our dreams, but when you get rid of those stories you realize that even though you thought you were playing big, you can play much bigger!"Learn more and connect with Kathryn here: Website: https://www.alyght.com/The LIT Ladypreneur Podcast: https://www.alyght.com/podcastInstagram https://www.instagram.com/alyght/Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/alyghtentrepreneurs/Facebook Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/alyghtwomenentrepreneurs/Claudette Rowley is the CEO of Cultural Brilliance, a cultural design and change management consultancy and the author of Cultural Brilliance: The DNA of Organizational Excellence (2019). A client once said to me, “I know what I'm doing. My clients get results, BIG results but why am I not getting results?” Have you ever felt that way? Or maybe you see someone else with less experience than you who is killing it and you're wondering what you're doing wrong! In either of those situations, the difference may be in knowing versus doing. Both are important. Yes, it's important to know what to do but knowing what to do is not the same as doing it! You have to do the work! Imagine with me for just a moment that you have a client who knows it all. Or perhaps every time you recommend something, she tells you she's tried it and didn't work. Or she knows that she should do something but was too busy to find the time to do the work and makes another excuse the next time you speak with her about why she didn't get it done. This kind of client can turn into a nightmare client. It wouldn't take long before you sat down and had a serious conversation about her progress. Maybe you would give her some tough love but if it continued, you may end up firing that client. Now, I'm curious, why do you continue to accept excuses from yourself? Why do you not take your own advice? Why are you your own worst client? If you're ready to change things, there are two steps! 1. What Would you Tell a Client? Sometimes we are so close to our own situation, we struggle to look at things objectively. I know I've given clients advice only to turn around and have my coach give me the same advice! We have to take ourselves out of our situations and imagine that we were a client asking for advice in order to more clearly view the situation and decide what to do. 2. Take Your Own Advice! Take the advice! Once you know what to do, DO IT! If you have to, schedule time in your calendar to get it done. Block off time as if you were your own client booking time with you and take action! You can stop being your own worst client. You deserve better! If you've been in business for any amount of time, you've probably experienced people who inquire about your services and never pay you. They take up your time, ask a lot of questions, but never move forward! It's frustrating, right? You're putting out all of this content and spending all of this time marketing your business, but there will always be people who do not become paying clients. It is frustrating, but there are things you can do to keep these people from moving forward and taking up more of your time. I've got three simple ways to help you eliminate the tire kickers in your business. Post Your Prices on Your Website This can be controversial and many people debate whether they should share their pricing. My recommendation is to not share your prices for everything you offer but only some of your most popular services. When people visit your website and your prices are well above what they will pay, they will not move forward. That's a good thing! There is nothing worse than having a conversation with a potential client only for them to realize that you are out of their price range. Hedge that off from the beginning by sharing your prices. "You only want to take calls with those who are ideal clients!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Create an Application Form Before I ever get on the phone with anyone, I require them to put in a little work to start. You want to make sure you're only getting on the phone with the right people.By putting a form into place, you capture information about your potential clients' business goals, pain-points, commitment, etc. This will help you weed people out based on how serious they are about working with you. Change The Language You're Using I recommend that my clients do target audience research. Speak to real dream clients, document the words they are using, and use that language in your marketing! I remember the moment I turned in my keys to my office at my 9-5. I was excited to have this freedom and life I'd been working so hard for! It wasn't until months later that I realized I traded in my 9-5 for a 24/7 and somewhere along the way, I actually thought it was a good thing but it wasn't and I'm here to talk about how to build a business that lights you up without hustling 24/7. Here's the thing, what I envisioned for my future, I wanted so badly that I was sacrificing my life in the present and I realize that it wasn't necessary! I thought it was just a part of being an entrepreneur but the hustle is NOT required. I still believe you have to work for your dreams but I also believe that the hustle is not required. What Does The Word Hustle Mean? You've heard this word a lot and you may have heard it as a badge of honor and I really want to dive into the real meaning of hustle and why I am so adamantly against it. Hustle: (Definition found from google.com) verb1. force (someone) to move hurriedly or unceremoniously in a specified direction. 2. INFORMAL•NORTH AMERICAN obtain by forceful action or persuasion. noun 1. busy movement and activity. The keyword in both is FORCE. What I know from my journey and from my clients' is that when you force something to get a result, you end up overwhelmed, no longer enjoying the work you do, and ultimately fear taking a break. You connect working to the result and feel you have to work to get the result. It also leads to working in your business, not on your business. I can summarize all that by saying it leads to BURN OUT! "When you're forcing a result, it leads to burnout." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven When you define hustle as a noun, it means busy movement or activity. I want to talk about the BUSY part. I'm curious, when did "hustle" become a badge of honor? I don't know about you but I often hear this conversation: Person 1: "Hey, how are you?" Person 2: "Busy!" Person 1: "Oh that's good! Busy is good right?" Let me stop you here, busy is not good! Not unless it's good busy. There are different kinds of busy and "hustle" isn't good busy. Busy isn't good if you're not doing the things that light you up. For you that might include a good portion of work. I'm not here to tell you that there is a magic number of hours you should or shouldn't work in your business. It's about how much you want to work in your business. "Being busy and working hard is not my definition of success and in fact, It's not necessary for success." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Your business should support the life you love. You're probably asking, HOW? Is this really possible and if so how? I have a course where I will dive in to talk about this very topic! Sign up with the link below. Hustle NOT Required In the meantime, here are a few ways to get started! 1. Know what is getting results and cut the rest. First things first, know what's working in today's online marketing and you can make a data-driven decision based on what's working and what's not. 2. Create efficiency for any repetitive task. For all the repetitive tasks in your business, you need systems or automation. This means not rethinking a process but having them written down and knowing exactly how you will handle things. 3. Build a team and delegate. Imagine if you had even a few more hours each week! You can do that as soon as you get someone on board and up to speed on some roles in your business. Often there is a major objection to that. You may think you don't have the budget for a team member but I want to challenge you to rethink that mindset. You absolutely can outsource at any level. There are options to outsource whether internationally, online, or even hiring a team member. It'd surprise you how affordable and profitable it can be. Resources: Hustle NOT Required (Sign Up Now!) Kathryn Brinkley focuses on identifying what target audiences you are selling to, because yes, its likely more than just one, and how to sell the transformation to them. She explains how to determine what stages your audience is at and how to craft the best buyer's journey for your business. If you are tired of setting for the hustle heavy lifestyle of the entrepreneur and are raising your hand to consistent income that DOESN'T require you to work crazy hours, I created a free class and saved a seat for you here: http://profitplanner.co/grow. This class goes over the 3-part profit plan system so you can run a business that allows you to be laptopless - where you can work when you WANT to, not because you HAVE to.
If you're like most entrepreneurs, you're probably a visionary with tons of ideas! I know I have no shortage of ideas and I get really excited about them! That's a great thing unless you're great at starting but not so much at finishing. Do you start so many things it takes far too long to finish them? I've been guilty of both! Just a few weeks ago, I found that I was overwhelming my team with the number of active projects! I had so many things that I wanted to accomplish; I kept starting new things. It all made sense in my brain but I wasn't slowing down long enough to help my team have what they needed in order for us to finish all these things. I had to take a step back and look at what we could do. We needed to finish what we started without limiting our creative vision. That was key! As the visionary in my business, I don't want to stop dreaming and planning what's next. I want to continue that while also allowing my team to keep moving. I decided on a few things that we needed to do and here are the steps we are taking in my business to help us finish what we start! Create a Container for New Ideas I'm really good at coming up with a lot of ideas and I'm a quick start but that doesn't serve my team and me. What I've had to do is create a place where I can store all of my ideas without losing them! I plan on a quarterly basis and re-evaluate each month. I have a place where I can brainstorm ideas and drop in all of these ideas that I want to do and save them for the next month or quarter. Start What We are Committed to Finishing Now You have to decide what to start right now. Because I plan on a quarterly basis, I have goals in mind for each month. I determine which ideas align with my goals for the quarter, and we give them deadlines! We only start a project if we can commit to finishing it! "Everything has to have a deadline!" -Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Invest in Your own Leadership Abilities I've had experience managing team members in the past, but now, I have a smaller team and there is still room for improvement. I found that I was handing off a lot of tasks without explaining the bigger picture or giving a clear scope of responsibility. Now when I hand off the responsibility, there is that measurable goal that's attached to it. I will occasionally bottleneck the tasks in my business, but I can try to remove myself as much as possible. I don't have to do everything. Now, I focus on the things that only I can do. Create the Project Plan When we commit to the project, then we can create the plan! From beginning to end, we lay out what will happen and when. We think through all the tasks to make sure I agree with the approach and we know who will do what by when. Batch Work We are batching/automating all the recurring tasks that happen in my business. This is a game changer! This will allow me space to focus on the important things. Scrum Methodology We use sprints to tackle projects from beginning to end in a very focused manner. This is the Scrum Methodology. Essentially, rather than working on 10 different priorities all at one time, we are tackle one at a time or a couple at a time to make sure we are getting things done! Done is Better than Perfect While I know that I may have big dreams, we make sure that in these sprints we are determining what this phase looks like and leaving space for improvements. If things look and sound different around here, that's because they are! The difference may not be huge, but it is significant. I am only removing 4 little letters from the name of my podcast and Facebook group but those 4 letters represent a lot as far as what I stand for. Here's how all this all got started. I did an interview on another podcast and prepared to share my expertise around marketing and mindset. The interviewer surprised me, however, with the questions they asked. I responded well to the questions, but I still left feeling as though the interviewer missed the bigger picture of the expertise I offer. In some ways, however, I was responsible for the questions being asked at all. You see, the focus of the interview centered on gender, and that I am a female entrepreneur working with other female entrepreneurs. It never occurred to me that by focusing on Lit "Ladies" it would appear as though I was averse to working with any other genders or gender identities. I contributed to the problem without fully realizing it. Now I am aware, I will no longer be branding my business as the Lit Ladypreneurs, instead, we will just be the entrepreneurs. Before I go into my reasoning, I first want to say that this is a very personal decision for me and should have no impact on your business. If you only want to work with women, go for it! But, if after hearing my reasons you feel in your gut you want to make a shift as well, you have my support. I'm not saying it's right or wrong to niche down by gender. What I am saying is that it no longer feels right for me! Now, here are the reasons I've made this decision! I'm an Entrepreneur I feel out of alignment with the word, "Ladyprenuer" and other similar phrases. I have never related to the word, "Mompreneur" and while I don't feel offended by any of these, I realized that I do not need these words and phrases to qualify me or my business. I don't want a different arena to play in outside of men, I'm an entrepreneur, being female doesn't play a part! I Don't Need a Safe Place I'm not intimidated by men. In fact, I've managed and coached men throughout my career and I don't feel that I need a separate space. I appreciate the differences that men bring and while I value quality, I at no point want to make it appear men don't have a role to play or that they scare women entrepreneurs. Now, a lot of things that have happened to women across the world and throughout history but my business isn't the place to address them! My Coaching isn't About How to Balance Mom Life and Entrepreneurship I'm a damn good mom but my children are not my why and my coaching isn't primarily about how to balance everything or the guilt we face while being working parents. In fact, in my marketing, I don't focus a lot on the fact that I have kids. It's not because I am trying to hide it but that's not the center of my brand, and that's because I love my children and my business and I view them separately! It Doesn't Matter How I Coach My Clients Based on Your Gender This breaks my heart, but someone asked me if I would turn away transgender individuals. I hate that this even had to come up! Gender identity has no bearing on my client's abilities nor my willingness or desire to help them build a wildly profitable business that lights them up! If there has ever been any part of you that has been wishing, waiting, and hoping for success, then this episode is for you! Do you have big dreams? Maybe you're waiting for the right time for your dreams to come true but what if the right time is now? Success is no accident! It's not something that just happens. You're not going to wake up one day and have success fall in your lap. Success is intentional and it's intentional in several different ways. There are different elements of intentionality that you need in order to create success. Be Intentional About Your Purpose When I talk about intentional purpose, I mean that you need to know WHY you want what you want. You need to have a mission and a vision so that you know the impact that you want to make and you know where you are heading. "The goal itself can't simply be to be successful. You have to know what that means and know what that looks like." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Have an Intentional Mindset Your brain may not be wired to view things positively or to respond in an optimistic manner. You might wake up thinking about what can go wrong or what happened in the past. You have to be intentional. Success is a choice and that boils down to waking up every day and doing the mindset work that's required to be successful. Intentional Marketing We are talking about running a business here and that's going to require some marketing. Intentional marketing is not just randomly choosing what to work on but, instead, knowing what to focus on. You need to have a very intentional and strategic marketing plan in place so that you can focus on the revenue generating activities that you need to do every day in your business. Intentional Action You have to move forward every single day! It is not enough to know WHAT you need to do, you must also take ACTION. "Success isn't going to happen if you're wishing, waiting, and hoping." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Intentional Growth It's easy to create short term success. Creating a sustainable long-term plan that is successful is difficult. Success is found in intentional growth rather than growth for growth's sake. Be intentional and grow your business in a way that will create long-term success. Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! There are a lot of people who want overnight success and quick wins. We are in a time in this world when most people want instant gratification. The thing is, you can build your business in one of two ways. You can build your business in a way that will result in quick wins and pray for longevity, or you can build slow and steady in order to win the race. So, let's talk about how to build a business that lasts. This is one of the core values in my business and I make all of my decisions with this in mind. Here are four different ways that I make decisions in my business that will help my business last. Know Right from Wrong Do what's right! Ethics and integrity in business should be a no brainer, but many people will sacrifice these values to win. Letting go of your core values to win is never a good idea and I have made the commitment in my business never to do so. Faith or Fear Make your big business decisions based on faith rather than fear. Making decisions in fear will not help you build a business that lasts. Typically decisions made in fear are due to a sense of desperation rather than strategy. Make sure your business is built on faith, not fear. Proactive vs. Reactive When you get into the zone of business, there are things thrown at you every day. It can get tiring having to make decisions every day as the CEO of your own company. If you make decisions as they come at you versus anticipating what the future may bring, your business will suffer. If you find yourself making decisions after the fact, then you are reacting to the curveballs thrown your way. A business that is built to last is a business that is built on forward thinking and intentional strategic planning meaning that your decisions are proactive. Short term vs. long term My advice is to always play the long game! Sure, you might get faster results today with one strategy but they may not be sustainable or scalable. If you build your business in a way that will generate fast cash, then you're likely using a strategy that you cannot maintain. You will end up burned out with a business that is not making money. Instead, play the long game. Building a business that lights you up is a long-term business strategy that requires sacrifice in the short-term in order to build repeatable and lasting results. "I truly believe that long-lasting success stems from making a decision every day out of a place of faith and not fear." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! What do you want to be known for? That was my journal prompt this morning. I want to be known for helping people do the things that they've always wanted to accomplish but never thought possible. I want to be known for helping people view their lives differently, to dream bigger, and never settle. As I kept writing, I realized that I don't just WANT to be known for these things, I WILL be known for them! The shift in wording may be subtle, but the way it changed my energy and excitement was incredible. Words matter! Your words reflect your inner thoughts and beliefs, but more than that they impact your future beliefs and experiences. By changing your internal conversation, you shift your mindset and your life as well. What words are you using? The way you talk about and describe the events in your life, impacts the way you feel about those experiences and how you will remember them. Your words define your reality, gives it shape, and sets boundaries around it. By altering how you describe your triumphs and struggles, you alter your memory of them and their impact on your future. "Choose your words wisely!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Here's an example: What kind of words did you use after a launch? Did you use words like failure, devastated, not good enough, or never going to work? If you attach those negative words to that launch, then those words are what that launch becomes. But, what if you flipped the script and used words like, learned a lot, resilient, inevitable success, where can I improve? Now you're looking at that launch not as a failure but as a learning experience. When you choose the words you use, you want to limit negativity and exaggeration. Think of a past decision that dramatically impacted your business life. What words immediately come to mind? Are they negative? Try now to think of this experience in a positive light. How does that change your perception of that event? Change your response! Rather than focusing on changing the steps that led to a particular outcome, consider changing your response. Getting less than spectacular results for one offering or another does not mean that the process was wrong, this just means that the process needs to be tweaked. Look for the positive results and change your mindset about their meaning. Event + Response = Outcome "The way that you respond to the events that happen in your life will change your outcome!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! Coaching is an industry that not many people understand. A lot of people like the idea of hiring a coach and it's becoming more and more popular. But when it comes to coaching, there are always expectations going in and some of them are very unrealistic. There are some beliefs out there when working with coaches that are just flat out wrong. So, I have 3 common myths that I am going to break down with you. 1. Coaches Have all the Answers. Some people hire a coach hoping they will tell you, step by step what to do. They hope that the coach is going to make the hard decisions for them. But, that's based on a belief that there is ONE right way to do something. Truthfully, there is no one way that works. There are a million ways that could work. On top of that, everyone has a different definition of success. So, how could there be one way if there are an unlimited number of ways to describe success? Coaching is not at all about having the answers, it's about asking the right questions. If you hire a coach hoping that they are going to give you answers, you're going to be very disappointed. If you go into the process hoping that you are going to get answers, that's fine. You ARE going to get answers, but those answers are already within you. YOU are the one who will make decisions and uncover the answers that you need. "Coaching is not at all about having the answers, it's about asking the right questions." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven 2. The Journey will Be Easy with a Coach If you are looking for the easy way out, I am not your girl! I am here to push you, challenge you, and get you out of your comfort zone. Change is not easy, it's freakin' hard! If you think hiring a coach is going to be the "easy" way, it's not going to happen. We will solve problems together but don't mistake that with your business being problem-free. In fact, the benefit of having a coach is to have support while things are tough. I am not here to make sure that your journey in entrepreneurship is without any challenge, trouble, or pain. If I could do that I certainly would, but unfortunately, that's impossible. "You have to ask for help. If you don't ask for help when things are hard, that's on you. Coaches can't help if they don't know." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven 3. Coaches are Responsible for Your Results Now, working with a coach will often very naturally lead to improved results and performance. Yes, you will meet or exceed your goals when you work with a coach, but simply hiring a coach will not make that happen. They don't get the results for you. You have to show up, you have to do the work and believe in yourself, you have to get results! Coaches can't do it for you. Yes, I'm going to provide decision support for you, push you out of your comfort zone, call you out on your BS, but I will never take full credit for your results. That was you! For 18 months, I was in critical debilitating pain. It wasn't constant. But, when it came on, it was INTENSE. And, for someone with a high tolerance for pain, this was a BIG. DEAL. In those 18 months, I was seen by several specialists and countless tests were done that all came back normal. So, I was given a treatment plan for the symptoms that I was experiencing. This got me thinking. I see something very similar in business. Entrepreneurs struggle for years. They bounce around from one course, or one coach to another and try every single tactic promised to get that end result that they want. But, they too are simply treating symptoms. The thing is that the symptoms are easy to spot, but the root causes go way deeper. "What if the problem you're treating isn't the REAL problem?" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven In business, some of those symptoms sound like: "I don't know how to grow my audience." "I don't know what to talk about." "My sales calls aren't converting. "I don't have enough time." Then they say: "I tried a webinar, and it didn't work." "I tried a challenge, Facebook ads, crafting a beautiful Instagram feed... but none of those worked." They didn't work because you're treating a symptom and not the cause. And treating symptoms doesn't actually get rid of them permanently. They're quick fixes. A band-aid, even. But, in reality, it's hard to know the difference. Sometimes, the same issue can be one person's REAL problem and just symptoms for another person. You've got to figure out which it is for you: the root cause or a symptom? What are your business struggles? When you really think about it - is that the problem that needs to be solved or is it a symptom? If it's a symptom, what could be causing it? List it out. And then decide if your struggles reveal a need to work on your strategy or your mindset. Let's look at an example. If you decide to go live but you're not sure what to talk about in your business, it could be strategy or mindset as the root cause. Strategically, you may not know your audience well enough or aren't sure what content works best on a specific platform. On the mindset side, you could be questioning the value that you provide and your self-worth. You may be afraid of success. Or, you have limiting beliefs like this common one:

I know you've got some incredible offers, and you have some dream clients who are looking at those offers but not moving forward. You may be wondering what's going on and how to get them to take that next step. First, reframe this idea of getting them to buy and shift things from convincing to simply giving them what they need to make the right decision for them. In order to do that, I've got six elements that are going to boost your conversion rates by helping your dream clients make a decision NOW. Increase the Clarity of Your Offer If you're not converting, take a look at the clarity of your offer. Is it actually really clear what you're offering, what they will get, and what they should expect? Increase Relevancy This is all about aligning your offer to your audience. The key here is getting to know your audience. What are they struggling with? Why is this important to them? How is this going to help them? Align your messaging and your offer to your dream clients so that they feel like you are speaking directly to them. Improve your Value Proposition Make your offer even more attractive to your audience in one of two ways: Share the benefits of your offer and make sure you're highlighting how it's going to help your audience get what they want or avoid something they don't. Add value by offering bonuses! Use bonuses to tackle their biggest objections related to your offer, to give them the information they need as a prerequisite to your offer, or simply to give them some extra support. Increase Trust When it comes to buying, someone has to really trust you and there are a few ways that you can make sure that this happens. Show testimonials and results from real clients. You want to show them that it's possible for them too! Create some kind of guarantee. An example of that would be a 30-day money back guarantee. Ensure a seamless and secure checkout. Keep them on the same domain and make sure your branding is consistent throughout. You want them to feel comfortable. Answer the most frequently asked questions. Remove Distractions Give them an offer without many choices. You don't want to give all kinds of different up sales, down sales, payment plans, etc. You want to offer some payment plans but not too many. Maybe have one payment plan and the offer to pay in full. Increase the Urgency Here are 3 ways that you can do this: Limit the availability of your offer. For example, only 3 spots available. Create a limited time offer. For example, for a limited time, the price is less or there are extra bonuses available. Mostly importantly, help them understand the cost of waiting. If you're going to increase urgency, this is the truest and most motivating urgency and that is helping them understand what they are sacrificing if they do not move forward now. How is it hurting them? How is it delaying their dreams? "Why should they choose your offer over something else? It doesn't matter if you have more experience, what matters is what's going to be different for them!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! In our last episode, we talked about 3 reasons why marketing may not be working. We talked about bigger picture strategy and approach. Today, I am going to dive in even deeper and talk about 4 reasons why your content may not be converting. You may feel like you're taking the right approach by showing up and delivering value but still hear crickets and you may start wondering what's wrong. Here are 4 different reasons that your content may not be converting into clients for you. You don't know your audience well enough. You don't know their pain points and desires, and you're not using the language they are using. If you are showing up consistently but you're talking about things that aren't top of mind or really important to them, you're not going to catch their attention. You have to figure out what their pain points and desires are and talk about those! Nothing else is going to matter except what they are struggling with and desire the most. You're giving it all away! Your audience doesn't need to pay you for help because they are getting so much from you for free and they are going to implement your tips on their own. I'm all for giving value, so I'm not saying that you shouldn't show up and help your audience... content marketing is incredible! BUT, you have to give the right kind of value. Think about other types of content that will open their eyes, help them, and point them in the right direction but not teach them how to do it all. Talk about the what and the why, but not the how! You're not giving a call to action. A call to action means an invitation to take the next step. Maybe you're spending all this time creating incredible content and you never ask your audience to do anything. Maybe you feel sales-y promoting anything at all! No matter the reason, if you're not giving a call to action, you're not going to convert. You're not giving them a reason to move forward. You're moving too fast! When someone hops onto your facebook live or blog are you jumping straight into selling? I'm going to encourage you to slow down. It's just like a relationship! You have to take it one step at a time. So, instead of moving too fast, nurture that relationship. What is the next step that they need to take to get to know you a little bit more? "Value doesn't have to be how-to content." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! Everywhere that you turn online you see advice on the ONE thing that you need to grow your business, attract more clients, and create success. I'm sure you've tried some of them too and you wondered why they didn't work for you. You felt frustrated and you may have even considered throwing in the towel... but all along, it wasn't you! You're trying all of these things that you're reading about and you feel that if it worked for others and not you, then it must be something wrong with you! I'm here to tell you... that's not the case! I have 3 reasons why your marketing isn't working. You're basing your marketing off of what worked for someone else. Whether you read a blog post, talked to a friend, or even hired someone, if you make your decisions solely based on the fact that it worked for them, you might be in trouble. Your business, audience, budget, and mindset are all different. So, your marketing approach should be customized based on those elements because your marketing depends on all of these. You need a strategy customized to you. You're doing what you've always done! If you're basing your marketing off what worked for you before, it might not work. Crazy right? Not even what worked for you in the past will always work for you in the future. As the industry, your audience, your business, and marketing evolves, you will need to evolve as well. As they say - "What got you here, won't get you there." So, your strategy will have to adapt. You're missing ingredients. As I said, there is no cookie cutter approach but there is a tried and true formula. It's a framework that outlines the different elements needed within your marketing, while still giving you the flexibility to customize your approach and plan which each element. I'm going in depth on this formula in my program, "Ignite Business Academy" where you'll learn the 4-part formula for attracting more dream client. "Just because it worked for them, does not mean it's going to work for you!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! It's a brand new year and I've been reflecting on the last year quite a bit. I'm sure you have been too and I bet that there are some lessons that you've learned. For me, it was a really big year in many ways and I can say that without a doubt the rest of my life will look differently because of the lessons I've learned. One thing I've learned about lessons is that you can look at something as a failure or reframe it as a necessary lesson that you needed to learn in order to be successful. All of these lessons are a part of my journey to get to success and I don't look at any of them as massive failures or anything I would want to change. Maybe I wouldn't have wished for them outright but knowing the lessons I've learned makes it all worth it! So here are the lessons I've learned in 2018: Even when you think you're playing big, you can go bigger. Playing big or small is relative and it's likely that what was once big and scary is now small and safe. I thought that I was playing big but when I really looked at what was going on, I realized that I was still playing small. Playing bigger was going to require that first, I dreamed bigger! So, this year, I really upleveled my dreams and the actions that are going to be required to get there. I want to help more women fulfill their potential and build a business and a life that lights them up! The only way for me to do that was to get a little more uncomfortable and step into the spotlight. "Even when you think you're playing big, you can go bigger." -Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven More equals less and less equals more. I'm sure you've heard of the phrase,"less equals more" quite a bit but this "more equals less" thing was new to me. This year, I got really excited about and distracted by three new programs that I dreamed up. As a visionary in my business, I have absolutely no limit of new ideas. I had to learn how to park those ideas, repurpose them, or simply say no. I learned that creating more offers actually meant spreading myself too thin, splitting up my marketing efforts, confusing potential prospects or even cannibalizing my other programs. More equals less! More equals less money and less time. Trying to do more or all the things doesn't work in your favor. What I realized was that I already have everything I need to scale to 7 figures and beyond... I don't need to create another offer to get there. Stop saying, "someday" or "someday soon". I knew not to keep saying "someday" but there was this subtle difference in my mind thinking that "someday soon" was ok. I kept feeling like my next breakthrough was almost here, so I would work harder to get there. But it wasn't at all about how hard I worked. If I was operating out of the belief that it was coming verses it was already here, then it doesn't matter how hard I worked. I had to shift and start doing things before I felt that I was ready! Asking for help builds relationships! I love that I am independent but it can also be a weakness of mine. I don't like to ask for help! This year, it really helped me to learn how asking for help can build greater relationships. Here are two examples of that. Tanya and I met when we were in the same coaching program and at first, we weren't sure about each other. After getting to know one another, asking one another for help and talking about things that were really hard to talk about in our business, we bonded. Now, we've met for over a year every single week as accountability partners, have become biz besties and have built a wonderful friendship as well. My second example was when I broke my arm back in August. This was huge for me because breaking my arm meant that I had to ask for a lot of help! I had to ask for help from my husband and I believed it may have saved our marriage! The fact that I wasn't completely independent and actually needed him, changed things for us. I realized there is nothing like actually depending on someone and feeling cared for when they do help you. Happy New Year! Today, I'm sharing the very first thing that you should do in order to make sure you actually accomplish your goals! I recently got back from my business planning retreat where I spent two nights focused solely on my business. There is something really powerful about getting away from your normal routine to focus on your future. Part of the process of my planning was setting goals for the new year but, here's the thing - in order to achieve your goals, you have to start by setting better goals. I know we set goals all the time, but we rarely think about our mindset around them and how that can actually impact whether or not we achieve our goals at all. So, here are five steps to help you set better goals. Narrow your goals. When I started brainstorming, I quickly filled an entire page with things I'd like to accomplish by the end of 2019 and if you're anything like me, I know that you can do the same. Now, If I took on every single one of them as goals, how many do you think that I would actually accomplish? Probably not very many. I read some research that says the likelihood of achieving each goal decreases with every new goal you add. Goals require intentional allocation of resources in order to be met. So, you have to narrow your goals. Set 1-3 goals tops, write them down and go all in. Set Goals that Motivate You. The goal itself and the why behind it has to be enough to motivate you. No one else can want it for you! So you need to connect with your vision enough that you will show up to do the work. You have to be honest with yourself about whether you actually want it before setting it as a goal. Set SMART Goals The goal itself and the why behind it has to be enough to motivate you. No one else can want it for you! So you need to connect with your vision enough that you will show up to do the work. You have to be honest with yourself about whether you actually want it before setting it as a goal. Your Goal Needs to be Actionable When you set your goals, don't say, "I want to." Start saying, "I will!" Then, get clear on the input required for the outcome that you want. Reframe the goal for the actions that you want to consistently take. Give Your Goal an Upper Threshold! Our effort will match the goals that we set. If we are setting a minimum goal, what do you think we are going to put in? The minimum effort! Whatever we think is required to get the number that we said is what we are going to do, even subconsciously. So, I like to use a good, better, best method for my goals. The minimum number is the good number but then I set two higher numbers so I have a range and when I make my plan to meet that goal, I base the plan off of the best number! "By adding more, you accomplish less." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven "The goal itself and the why behind it has to be enough to motivate you." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Mentioned In This Episode Behind the Scenes of My Business Planning Retreat + the 7 Steps I Took to Prep for the New Year Setting SMART Goals Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! If you don't think that you can have it all, listen up - because you can! I attended my son's class Christmas party recently and I'm beyond grateful for the flexibility to be there. I still remember when I was in my 9-5 and had to decline my son's invitation to his Christmas party. His wide smile quickly faded, and I couldn't help but think about how he felt that day when all of the other parents showed up and his mom wasn't there. This morning, I was reminded of that as I sat across the classroom and watched other kids holding back tears. So many parents were there, but I couldn't help but notice this one little looking around the room. I could immediately tell that his parents weren't there. It made me all the more grateful that everything has changed for me, and my son doesn't have to be that one little boy. I felt guilty when I worked, and I felt guilty when I was with my family. I couldn't win! Have you ever felt this way? Maybe for you, it's not mom guilt but you struggle to find time with a spouse, a friend, or yourself! I used to think that I always had to sacrifice something, and I couldn't have it all! It was as if my life was one big pie chart and every time I gave more focus on one area, another had to suffer. We talk about priorities all the time but we talk about them all wrong and make 3 big mistakes: We Pretend Like it's Possible to Give 100% to Everything! If everything is a priority then nothing is the priority! It's impossible to have multiple priorities, and it leads straight to burn out. So instead, align what you say YES to with your values. Figure out what your values are and use that as a guide for what to say yes to and use those same values as a filter for when to say no. We Create Silos Instead of Synergy. Instead of distinct pie pieces, the various areas of our lives can overlap in such a beautiful way. Your day to day activities can accomplish more than one goal at a time. Take your spouse to that personal development conference with you. Work out with a friend. Listen to that podcast while you do your makeup in the morning. There are ways to stretch your time and overlap the things that you want to do in your life. We Let Other People Define Success for Us. Whether they put the pressure on us or we put the pressure on ourselves, we try to measure up to others' definitions of success in every single area of life instead of focusing on our own desires. We create this "ideal" woman who we've literally just dreamt up and we compare ourselves to her! Instead, we need to decide who it is that we want to be! Today we're going to talk about niching down. Now, if you're still trying to be everything to everyone, how is that working for you? I know it sounds counter-intuitive, but in order to get more results, you actually need to narrow your focus. Yes, it's tempting not to because you want to get more sales and it seems more logical that if you want to get more sales, then you need to offer more services and help more people but that isn't the case. You feel like it's going to limit you when you narrow down, but when you try to help everyone, you end up getting overlooked. Niching down actually helps you stand out! So, how do you do that? There are two ways to narrow your focus, and we are going to take a look at both to see which makes the most sense for you. Narrow your target audience. You're going to need to get really specific about who exactly you want to help and then tailor your marketing directly to them. The more you use the language that they use for their industry, the more they are going to trust you and feel like you get it. So, what's one specific industry that you can serve? Let's say that you're a social media manager. If you can specialize in one industry and create resources and content just for them, imagine the possibilities! Instead of marketing your social media services to all businesses, what would happen if you specialized in social media for a dentist, realtors, or maybe even hair stylists? You may think that this sounds limiting, but I've heard of people who have built incredibly profitable businesses by narrowing down to one specific audience. Narrow your services. If you are having a really hard time narrowing your audience, the good news is there's another choice. Instead, you can do less for a wider range of people. So for example, focus on one thing that you're going to become an expert in. Using the same example of the social media manager, instead of handling all of the social media platforms, you focus on Instagram. Then, when someone wants to grow their following on Instagram and learn how to convert those followers into fans, you become the go-to person for that job! Narrow down your target audience and services! Now, if you're feeling courageous, you can actually narrow down both! Take time to do some research because depending on the market and demand, you want to make sure there is truly a market and there are enough clients when you narrow down your audience and the services you provide. But, assuming that's true and there is a market, this can be really powerful! I have a question for you... what is your biggest challenge in your business? This is a question I ask every potential client and I've heard many answers! Most say their biggest struggle is finding and booking clients. Many say confidence or time management. Some say, balance or fear. You name it, I've heard it. Well, there is one thing I haven't heard. I haven't had a single person tell me that they have no challenges. Most would identify multiple challenges if given the opportunity and maybe even proudly display, #thestruggleisreal BUT I'm here to tell you that the struggle doesn't have to be real! So, I've got a little tough love for you and everything is truly meant with love. Your business is designed perfectly to get the exact results that you're getting right now. Are you not getting clients? Maybe, there's something that needs to change with the way that you're operating your business or there is something wrong with your marketing strategy. If you want different results, you're going to have to change something. Your present circumstances are a reflection of your past thoughts. Your thoughts create your reality, but your current reality is based on the thoughts that you've had in the past, not your current thoughts. Just because you've done some work and addressed your mindset doesn't mean that that's going to be reflected in your current reality... instead that's going to impact your future. If you haven't done the work yet and you want to see something different in your future, that means you need to examine and change your current thoughts. You have to change your beliefs now in order to impact the future. Struggling is a choice. You don't have to struggle, you get to choose and you are not a victim to your circumstances. Take the responsibility and realize your part in your life. No matter what happens, you have to see your role in it and know that you have a choice. If there were a reason that you were choosing to struggle, why might that be? Here are some examples. Is it easier to say that you're struggling with time management or that you don't have the time when you're really choosing to waste time because you're scared of what's on the other side of success? Do you complain that your spouse isn't supportive verses choosing to do whatever it takes because you know that it's easier to say that it's his fault than it is to face the decision on the other side of success about whether to get a divorce? Do you say that you struggle with visibility when you actually choose to play small intentionally because you worry about what people are going to think of you? "You have the choice to let go of the struggle. The struggle does not have to be real." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! A few months ago, I broke my arm. I mean, it was shattered! That's the word my surgeon used. After two plates and eleven screws, I was out of surgery. I had a cast for a while but weeks later, it was removed and for the first time, I saw two scars on my wrist. The surgeon did a beautiful job, but I still hid my scars. I'm not interested in drawing a lot of attention to them. I don't want to answer a million questions about the accident and so I keep them covered up. And while these are visible scars that I've chosen to hide, I have many others that I've hidden as well. There are a lot of things in life that I haven't talked about. From a really early age, I felt like we just don't talk about those things and so, I haven't talked about the Dad that walked out or the youth pastor that took advantage of me at the age of 18, or when I was laid off unexpectedly. I haven't talked about the pain of endometriosis that led to a full hysterectomy at the age of 30. I don't talk about the pain of no longer being able to have kids. Although I am so grateful that I've had two of my own before. It's been so much easier to just tell others that "I'm fine" or hop online and act as if everything is incredible. But, that's all changing now! Over the last year, I've felt an urge to share more and more about my story. It's something that I've thought about, debated with myself about and hesitated on multiple times... but I started to take baby steps. I started sharing with people who I would consider close to me, yet still didn't know some of the things I've struggled with most. Over time I put in the work to get ready to share in a bigger way. "I knew that hiding my scars is not only holding me back, but it's holding you back." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven I decided I would no longer allow my past to get in a way of my future. Is your past holding you back from your future? Have you become a prisoner to it? Are you hiding your scars? If the answer is yes, you are not alone. Here are a few things I want to share with you to encourage you and let you know that it will be ok if you choose to share. Your past doesn't define you! What happened to you, happened. You can't change it, but you can change how you move forward. You don't have to live your life as a victim of your past. You can choose differently. Your fear of what people will think is holding you back. But it can only hold you back if you let the stories that you're telling yourself keep you quiet. To get over that fear, you have to share your story. Talk about it. Stop hiding it. Make is a part of your message. There is nothing to hide. The fear, shame, and all of the emotions that you feel, grow when put under the pressure of starting in hiding, but when you open up and talk about it, they lose their power over you! So, share your story. If you could help just one person, would it be worth it? Will you join me in committing to stop hiding our scars? He told me the words I wanted to hear. He told me to go after my dreams but I didn't feel his support for such a long time. In fact, I could see right through his words. His support didn't feel authentic until... it finally did. And until then, I struggled like never before. So, how did I make it through? There are nine specific steps that I took in my journey that I'd love to share with you. I stopped sharing my fears and doubts with my husband. I realized they were only feeding his own fears and doubts. I needed to project confidence! I wanted so badly to share those things with him, but I couldn't in that season. Not if I wanted to actually create the success that I had in mind. I hired a coach. I hired someone else to speak with and go to when I needed help dealing with all of the things that were coming up in my business. Someone who knew how to work through the fears, doubts, and challenges. I could work through everything with her, without worrying my husband. I had to stop telling him what I was going to do and start showing him! You have to "make more moves and less announcements" and that is exactly what did. I had to make it happen instead of telling him what I was going to make happen. I recognized that his comments were a reflection of his own mindset. When they got to me before it was because there was a part of me that had the same mindset! Those same fears and doubts were in me, but once I took care of my own mindset, I was able to realize that he was just dealing with his mindset hurdles. It was a choice to allow his negativity to impact me. The negativity certainly did not go away but I let it stop impacting me. I chose to ignore it and not to focus on it. I shifted my focus from him to my goals. I went all in working towards my goals. No matter what he said and how hurtful the comments were, I just kept going. Celebrate the wins! I shared every good thing that was happening in my business, so that he could start to see that things really were happening. I shared more once he opened the conversation. Once he noticed how I had changed, he started to ask questions. Then, and only then did I share more about all of the mindset work that I had done. In those moments, he started to understand more just how much things were really shifting and what was really possible! I proved him wrong. Now to be clear, proving him wrong was not my motivation. I just focused on my goal and did what I needed to do. Eventually It happen and I actually did what I said I was going to do, and all of his doubts disappear because it had happened! I know that you can reach your goals. Don't lose hope! You've got this! "Make more moves and less announcements." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Schedule a free clarity call for more support! Why do you wait to do so many things in your business and life until money arrives? If you wanted to welcome money in your life and business, there are some things you should do to prepare. You should act as if it's already on the way. You don't wait to get everything ready for guests to arrive to your home, you prepare in advance, right? So, why do we do the exact opposite when it comes to money!? What's your revenue goal? Now, what would you do if you were 100% certain that you were going to hit that goal? How would you make decisions differently? What would you invest in? What would your marketing look like? How would you run your business differently? Now, why aren't you now doing that now? There may be this belief that you aren't there yet and you'll act differently once you get there, but that logic doesn't work! That's not actually how you get there. You have to have faith, faith strong enough to take action. Action is evidence of what you believe! I can't tell you how many times I see a client hesitate and when I do, I know just how much or how little she believes in herself. How much she believes that the goal that she set will actually happen. If you really believed in yourself, what action would you take? So, I invite you to walk to your door and open it, but don't stand there waiting and staring. Open the door to success but then go do something about it! Go get ready for its arrival! "The only thing standing between you and that woman you want to be is faith!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! What are you going to do if your business doesn't work out? Are you going to go back to a 9-5? Are you already looking at job openings from time to time when you start doubting yourself? Now, I'm curious what came up for you when you hear those questions? If you answered anything but, "That is not going to happen!" then, you are already open to the option of a plan B. And the first thing you have to do is kill your plan B! "Get certain about the future you want!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Here are a few steps to help you. First, you have to get certain about the future that you want! You need to know, really know, what your future is going to look like. Evaluate your options and decide on one path. If you're weighing a couple of different options and you think both can get you to this desired future, I really encourage you to compare the best case scenario for both. Often times we compare the best case scenario against the worst. Commit to your plan and follow through. Whichever you choose, choose it and keep going. Stop entertaining any other options. There is no plan B anymore. Your only option is to succeed because you won't stop until you do! Failing really isn't failing unless you let it stop you! Your success is inevitable, when you decide it is! Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! Are you ready for your new normal? Everyone's normal is different. In one business a woman could be making 1k a month and that could be normal for her. Someone else could be appalled at only making $1k a month and might be making $10k, $20k or $100k a month or more. Whatever your normal is, is pretty much what you can expect. So, is it normal for your income to barely cover your expenses? Is it normal for no one to sign up for your highest offer and only book the lowest offer? What I can tell you is those things might be normal for you but they are not normal for everyone and they don't have to be normal for you! Here's the thing... whatever you expect is what you should plan on getting. If you want new outcomes, then change your normal! If you're booking in an average of one client per month and that's your normal, change your expectation, increase it! Here are six steps to help you along this process. Figure out what is normal for you right now Get clear on what your normal is currently? Don't lie to yourself! This might sting a bit. If you binge watch Netflix while you have no clients, write that down. If you never do live videos because you can't stand the way that you look. Write that down! This leads us to the next step. Understand where you learned this normal Where did these thoughts come from? Did they come from early childhood? Did you learn this state of normal from the people you surround yourself with? You might need to make some changes, but you have to understand where your current idea of normal even comes from before you can change it. Get uncomfortable with your current normal If you want something different, then the pain of where you are now has to be greater than the pain of where you want to be. So, the idea of where you are now should be appalling! There is no way you're going to tolerate making $1k months long-term. There is no way that you're going to tolerate only booking one client a month. This works for all areas of life! Don't settle! Decide on your new normal When we talk about your new normal, I want you to dream big! Go over the top, too good to be true, kinda BIG! Anything is possible. Maybe your new normal is always flying first class. Maybe your new normal is increasing your prices. Allow yourself to dream big. Take baby steps You're going to take baby steps until you get to your new normal. Whatever your new normal is, you're not going to get there right away... so, what's your next step? Maybe it's never letting your bank account get less than $500, then $1000, and so on. Maybe it's increasing your prices a little at a time. Never settle for your current normal again As soon as something becomes normal, create another new normal! Keep growing! Success is a moving target, right? Don't tolerate anything less and continue to change that normal, and create even more for yourself. "Your thoughts create your reality. If you want something different, you can create it!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! When you think about how your week is going so far and how you're showing up and putting in the work, are you acting more like the employee or the entrepreneur? If you started out your career working for someone else and you're used to being an employee, there is an entire mindset around being an employee that has to shift to really take full advantage of all the opportunities that you have as an entrepreneur. Here are 8 shifts to go from employee to entrepreneur! Shift from focusing on the amount of time that you work to being productive. This was so hard for me when I first started my business. I felt like I had to work all day in my business even when the work was done. Rather than just getting things done and enjoying the freedom that I wanted to create as an entrepreneur, I was spending all of my time and filling my day, stretching out how long it took to get things done. I was focused on spending "enough" time working versus being productive and effective so that I can move on! "In business, there is no participation trophy! So, you don't get rewarded for the amount of time that you show up. You get rewarded based on the result that you actually create!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Stop following the rules and start breaking them. As you look around at everyone else who is in a similar industry as you, you start to create these ideas in your head and what the rules are and how you should do things. But as the entrepreneur, you get to make the rules and it's more important to innovate, to evolve, to adapt. Go from avoiding discomfort at all costs to embracing it. Be courageous enough to take those steps even when you know you may fail. Risk it because of the potential reward. Work on your business not just in the business. When you're an employee you're working in the business. You're doing what needs to be done. But, as an entrepreneur, you have to set aside time to work ON your business in order to grow it. Shift from focusing on the present to thinking about the future. As an employee, you may focus on the present, just showing up each and every day focusing on what needs to get done and trying to get through it but as the visionary, it's your responsibility to think about the future. Start looking at the metrics. As an employee you might make decisions without any data or numbers, but as an entrepreneur, you have to look at the metrics. Your clients are not your boss. You're so used to having a boss as an employee and keeping them happy, that sometimes an entrepreneur, you treat your clients as your boss. Never stop learning. When you were an employee, maybe you have a lot of discomfort around the idea of being a beginner, but as an entrepreneur, there are so many things that you need to learn! There were days when I was still in my 9 to 5 where I would come home after a long day of work and complain to my husband about what happened. Most of the time, I was talking about my boss. There would be something that he or she did and I would come home still steaming about it. The thing is, I don't do that anymore. I don't complain to my husband about my boss but that's because it's me! But, the reality is, I do some of the same things to myself that I used to complain about! I love what I do but sometimes, I put so much pressure on myself that I make myself do things I don't even want to do in my business! Can you relate to this? Have you found yourself working non-stop, putting in crazy hours and not because you want to but you feel that you have to? If you're not being a boss that you would want for yourself then it's time to take a closer look and I have five areas for you to work on as it relates to being your own leader! Remind yourself of your purpose! Remind yourself why you started your business in the first place. What it is that you even committed to doing. What's the impact and vision that you have for your business, audience, the world, and for your life? Remind yourself of every success story. Put them in a folder. Save them every time you've received a compliment or testimonial, hold onto those and revisit them. Care about yourself! Instead of demanding things of yourself, ask yourself what's really best for you. Stop focusing on what's best for the business and make sure you're prioritizing yourself because without you there wouldn't be a business. So how will care for yourself this week? What does that look like? What do you need? Give yourself affirmation for the things you're doing well! Celebrate the wins! What's one thing you can reward yourself this week? How can you celebrate and remind yourself of what a great job you're doing? Create space for growth! You've got to give yourself space to learn and grow to continue to improve. Allow yourself to fail without beating yourself up. Allow yourself to learn instead of putting so much pressure on yourself to be perfect. There is no such thing as perfect! Play! Have some fun! What would you do if you spent this next week prioritizing some fun? If every single day you led from a place where you're going to have some fun with what you're doing verse putting so much pressure on yourself to perform. Play around, have some fun, look forward to what you're doing! Laugh a little! "You're the boss, you get to choose, so be good to yourself!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! What do you wish you could change? I'm sure there is something right? You probably have a list of things you want to change. It's easy to say you want to change all of these things but when it actually comes down to it, we all want to change... but we don't change! We want the end result of what change will bring, but actually making the change can be hard, uncomfortable, or scary! So, we avoid change. But if you change nothing, nothing will change. So my question to you is if you change nothing, where will you be a year from now? In this episode, I share five steps to create a plan for change. Set a goal. Start by setting one, short-term goal. Break it down and get really specific! What's one short-term goal that you can take action on within 30 to 90 days? Get realistic and set that one goal so you can start taking action without feeling so overwhelmed. Determine the input that's required for the outcome that you want. There is a difference between input goals and outcome goals. Most likely, you've set an outcome goal and that's exactly what you should start with. But most of our outcome goals are hard to reach without breaking them down. So, I want you to look at the input required and set a daily or weekly recurring goal. What are the daily actions that you can take that will guarantee that you'll get to that outcome? When you break it down in this way and focus on a list of what you have to do every day, all of a sudden it becomes more manageable! Plan for roadblocks. They are going to happen ladies! There is no reason to pretend that everything is going to be perfect. I want you to think about what could go wrong. What could derail your progress? What has derailed your progress before? Make a list of those things and plan for how you're going to handle them. "Plan ahead of time. You will be far better at overcoming obstacles when you've thought about them ahead of time and decided how you're going to respond." -Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Connect for accountability. You want to enlist help on this journey! Change is hard! You need help, don't try to do this alone and most importantly, find the right person to help! You need someone who you're going to listen to and someone who will give you some tough love. Measure your progress. Don't simply say you're going reach a goal at the end of 90 days. Instead, build in a way to track your progress along the way. It's best to have check-ins at regular intervals. Set some milestones for yourself. What you do want to accomplish by when? How will you know you're making progress toward your goal? "So much can happen in the next year for you! So set your goals and get started!" -Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! I remember so clearly the day one of my biggest dreams became a reality, and exactly how I felt when I sat at my computer and typed up my resignation letter to my full-time job! I was so excited but absolutely terrified all at the same time. Do you remember a time when you felt both scared and overwhelmed with excitement? Maybe you're feeling that way right now. What's holding you back today? In this episode, I share three steps to transform fear and turn it into excitement. "FEAR IS EXCITEMENT WITHOUT THE BREATH!!" - Fritz Perls Feel the fear! Instead of ignoring it, allow yourself to really feel it. Get comfortable with fear and know that at every stage, you're going to feel the fear. In business, you might think, "As soon as I overcome fear, I'll be able to do this." but you'll face fear at every level. Fear is never going to just go away. "Embrace the fear! Work with it, let it drive and motivate you!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Breathe. Slow down! When you're scared, when you're afraid of something big that's going on, take a breath and give yourself some space to slow down, think, and plan your next move! Take action! Whatever that next step is, do it! You have to take action. Don't worry about having everything planned out. It's highly unlikely you'll know everything that needs to get done at once. You're lucky to figure out the first step, the next step. Action is the antidote to fear, so simply take action and yes that means taking action even when the fear is still present. Here's the thing, the fear doesn't go away just because you're feeling the fear or took a breath, it's still there but by taking action you're actually working through it. If you wait till the fear is gone, you're going to wait forever! "When you learn to take action while you're scared, you'll be unstoppable!" - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! Have you ever received a meeting request from a supervisor with no details? If so, how did you respond? Did you stay up late wondering what it was about? Did you panic? How about the feeling you get when you thought a launch was tanking but the facts and results were saying the exact opposite? Many of us react to the situation before even looking at the facts. Today, I am going to go over an exercise to do when your feelings and limiting beliefs are taking over. First, I want you to take out a journal, ideally with two blank pages side by side. On the left I want you to write feelings and on the right, I want you to write facts. On the left side, you might write things like, "I feel like it's impossible to book a new client!" or "I don't feel pretty enough to do live videos." Journal anything else that is coming up for you this can be about your business or life. Now, on the right side, I want you to start looking at each of the things you wrote on the left-hand side but then look for evidence of what is really true! What are the facts? "Think about how you're feeling right now and separate that from what is actually true." -Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Before spiraling out of control and listening to your limiting beliefs, use this exercise and break down the feelings versus the facts. This will give you the awareness that you need about what you're choosing to belief versus what is actually true. Do you have a lead magnet but you're not getting the leads that you had hoped for? In this episode, I share why your lead magnet sucks and what you can do to fix it! When I first started out in business, I created more lead magnets that I care to admit. Maybe you can relate... after all of that work, you put it out into the world and get a whopping total of 3 subscribers and that includes yourself and your mom! So what's wrong? Well, you're not alone and I am going to go over some tips on how you can create a lead magnet that YOUR audience finds irresistible! Make it specific. Your lead magnet can't be vague or focus on many different topics. It has to be super specific focusing on one thing! Provide real value. Some kind of a quick win, for example, a cheat sheet or checklist. Solve a pain point. Give people something they actually want, not simply need! Check out a previous episode where I talk about what your dream clients actually want! Episode 3: What Does Your Dream Client Want? Attract your dream clients. I've seen clients that have created a lead magnet that was too vague or too general. It was something that could help anyone when not everyone is your dream client, right? Remember your ideal client and cater to those people. Demonstrate credibility. Show your expertise and position yourself as someone with authority and experience around whatever it is that they need. Build curiosity. The title of your lead magnet should tease your audience a little! You want your dream clients to read what your lead magnet is but not have the all the answers just by reading the title. Leave a little to the imagination and build curiosity so that they actually want to download it and figure out what's inside. Make sure it looks professional. First impression is everything right? If graphic design isn't your area of expertise, you can still make your lead magnet attractive and professional-looking by using templates on creativemarket.com or by hiring a designer. Make it easily consumable. You want your dream client to be able to skim through it and have some takeaways within minutes. Think, immediate gratification. Make it relevant to the content before and your offer after. When you're promoting your lead magnet, you're going to attract people through content. That content should lead seamlessly to your lead magnet. After they download it and consume it, you want it to lead seamlessly to your offer. This alignment is an absolute must! "Your lead magnet needs to provide real value that's focused on outcomes and results." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! Today, we are chatting about how to get the most out of your content so you can stop creating new content for every single marketing channel. But first, what is content marketing? According to The Content Marketing Institute, it is a strategic marketing approach focused on creating and distributing valuable, relevant and consistent content to attract and retain a clearly defined audience and ultimately driving profitable customer action. It's really all about providing value throughout a buyer's journey from free access to paid services. There's a lot of content that we need in our businesses every single day. Just think about the content that you create for every social media channel. This can get so overwhelming. Today, we are going to look at a different approach to creating content. Instead of starting by focusing on each marketing channel, you're going to focus on the message and offer you want to share. Once that is all clear, you'll create and repurpose your content, and then distribute it to each marketing channel. One of the ways I like to approach my content creation is through journaling. Each morning I journal right from my heart. Usually, there's some message that I feel will resonate with my audience and I pull it straight from my journal and repurpose it for each platform. "To get the most out of your content, focus on your message first and marketing channels last." - Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! In our digital world, you are going to hear advice that can be contradictory! So, how do you deal with it and how do you decide which path to take? I recently spoke to two clients that were at a fork in their business and they asked me for advice. I told one gal to only choose one path and told the other she didn't have to settle and could take both! Confusing, I know... but I explain the difference between the two and why my advice to both women isn't really contradictory. "Are you even on the right mountain?" -Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Imagine that your goal is a peak of a mountain and maybe you have some new ideas about how to get to the top. Do you go for it? There are so many ways to get to the top! The reality is, all of these ways can eventually get you to the top but some are going to take more time, some are going to require more effort, and some are going to require more resources. All of these methods could eventually work, but you know what won't work? What won't work is starting to climb and then deciding that it's too hard so you try another way. You continue with this repetitive routine of starting over again and again. "There are all of these ways to get to the top of the mountain but you need to choose and you need to commit." -Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Now, when I spoke with one client, I realized that she wasn't even on the right mountain! So, that brings me to six questions for you to answer yourself! Are you on the right mountain? Which mountains do you want to climb? Do you actually believe you can get to the top? What equipment do you have? How big is your mountain? How many bridges have you finished building? In the first few episodes, I talked about what YOU want but what about what your clients want? Do they know what it is that you're selling? Are you marketing in a way that's compelling to your audience? What do you think Crest toothpaste is selling? You're probably answering that question with, toothpaste of course! But, they aren't selling toothpaste, they are selling fresh breath and a clean mouth! It's so easy to get this wrong in your marketing messaging by creating one-sided messaging. That means that you are talking about all you... but (#truthbomb) your audience doesn't care about you! The first thing they think about is, "What's in it for me?" What they are really buying is better versions of themselves! I explain the difference about features and benefits in detail. Features answer the question, "What is it?" and benefits answer the question, "What does it do?" "If you want your dream clients to take action, you first have to get their attention!" -Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Sell what your clients want and give them what they need. I don't mean that to be manipulative... let's look at the Crest toothpaste for example. We need that tube of sodium fluoride to brush our teeth with but that's not what we want! We want fresh breath, clean and white teeth. Let's Connect See all that Kathryn has to offer at kathrynbinkley.com Connect more with Kathryn on Instagram! In the last episode, I talked about how to figure out what you want... but what about when you know what you want and feel like you have to ask for something in order to get it? Well, there are two things that I bet you're asking for in your business or you think you need to ask for that are holding you back! Are you waiting for permission to get what you want? I share a story about holding back from a massage that I needed because I felt guilty for allowing myself some self-care. This is something that so many of us struggle with in life and in business, and it's time to stop asking for permission for the things that we want! "You don't need to ask for permission do to things differently." -Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven The second thing you may feel you need to ask for in business is forgiveness! You don't need to ask for forgiveness for unintentionally offending someone on your email list. If they don't like something you've said, they can unsubscribe! "You don't need to apologize for setting boundaries!" -Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven Stop saying your sorry. Stop asking for forgiveness when you don't have to.
