We're thrilled to be starting our 7-week bootcamp for your firm's service, all based on the grand unifying theory of Five Star Counsel.   This first module is a high-level overview of our approach to client service, why great service crucial in today's legal market, and how to think of your firm as a three-legged stool - something we'll be incorporating in every future episode.   Most small/solo firm owners know they have room to improve their service, but determining how and where to begin is tough. John explains how we can look to amazing service companies like Four Seasons or Disney or Zappos for *inspiration*, but we shouldn't be blindly copying their tactics.    You don't need to go above and beyond for every client or dazzle them with unexpected delights and services. You are hired to solve your client's problem, and you need to focus your firm on doing that in the most attentive, effective, thoughtful, communicative, and consistent way possible.    We'll end every module with a brief exercise to help you incorporate the lessons and reflect on your firm's current status and goals.   This week, John asks you to write down the three biggest areas where your firm can improve service.   If John could give you a magic wand, what are the top three things you would change about the service your firm delivers right now?   Now answer that from the position of your employees.   Last, answer from the viewpoint of your clients.   Find a PDF worksheet for each episode's exercise on our podcast page at https://strohmeyerlaw.libsyn.com/ ----- FiveStarCounsel.com Ask a question and we'll answer on the show! Children with dyslexia often have brilliant and incredible stories to share in their heads but always struggle to get them out and put them into words. A lot of the time, their imagination and creativity go beyond what was required in the question and they get so overwhelmed halfway that they ended up leaving it unfinished. Going off-topic is a common occurrence and the lack of cohesiveness forces the teachers to mark it as failed. It's in every exam in the world they ask students to “Write a Short Story”. It sounds easy but for a child with dyslexia, it's not. We, dyslexics, have no shortage of mind-bending theories and hyper-realistic worlds to share but how to share it is the problem. How do you make sure you have a beginning, middle, and end in your story? How do you make sure your teachers get what you wanted to say? And most importantly, how do you finish the story on time? Welcome to Embers and Wind! In describing how he helps people keep their dream job after helping them land it, guest James Kennedy states “So in terms of helping them keep it, well in terms of the skills and stuff that I've given them, Keith. Okay, what's a dream job one day might not be what they want to do forever. Right. So the tools I'm giving to people as part of the resume course as a part of the training and everything I give them, is a skill for life. So that when they've had enough of that one job, they can start looking for the next level in whatever the next level is for them. Because when I work with people, I say your resume is a living document, right. The next job that you get into, there's going to be stories, there's going to be problems that you've had there that you need to keep documenting all the way through so that when it comes to the next job you already have the stories there, you've kept up to date, to help people go on to the next level whatever the next level is for them.” I'm your host, Keith Weedman. In each podcast episode, you will hear stories. These stories will feel like a tender wind blowing on the embers of service that glow within you. In this weekly show, you will learn ideas, kindling for your embers. It will be your choice to utilize the gentle wind to ignite the kindling. In this episode, James shares how his journey through six careers over 20 years prepared him to help unappreciated high performers find their dream job. He talks about what it feels like to be pigeon-holed by his employer. He notes he knows what is going on in the mind of a hiring manager from having been a hiring manager. He talks about how he helps people he works with to utilize the Star Method in job interviews to help job candidates address those responsibilities in the past by sharing their stories and experiences. He shares how about viewing job descriptions as a list of problems that a hiring manager wants a job candidate to solve. He shares how he helps people write their cover letter and CV (curriculum vitae) to respond to the problems a hiring manager wants a job candidate to solve. He shares stories to imspire those who join this conversation about people he has helped find their dream job. Want to learn more about handling situational questions during interviews? It's never too early to start preparing. This week we discuss resources to help prepare and strategies to handle situational interview questions, including the STAR method. We also discuss steps you can take now to make it easier and more authentic to answer these questions in the future. STAR Stands for: Situation: Describe the situation you were in or task you need to accomplish Task: The goal you are working towards Action: Describe the actions you took to address the situation. Keep the focus on YOU. What did YOU do, what steps did YOU take. Use "I" and not "we" if possible Result/Resolution: Describe the outcome of your actions and take credit if credit is due. Can also do START with the last T meaning Take-away: What did you get form the situation and how to apply it to future situations. TIP: Keep a journal of these situations during rotations. Also, check out this useful resource from ASHP that includes these examples of these types of questions as well as a worksheet for using the STAR method: https://www.ashp.org/-/media/assets/pharmacy-student/docs/Student-Residency-Guide/psf-residency-interview-skills-packet.ashx#:~:text=What%20do%20you%20like%20to%20do%20in%20your%20free%20time%3F&text=What%20else%20do%20you%20think%20that%20I%20should%20know%20about%20you%3F&text=Why%20do%20you%20think%20that%20you%20deserve%20the%20position%3F&text=What%20do%20you%20do%20to,your%20coworkers%20say%20about%20you%3F (Interview Skills Packet for Residency Candidates) Follow us on twitter @PGPharmacist or on Facebook @ThePostGraduatePharmacist and leave us your comments or questions that we did not answer. In her own words: "Achieving the success you desire & deserve. Two decades ago, I was a broke teen mom raising my son on my own. I had a goal though, to build a happy, healthy, and financially stable life for myself and my son. I put myself through college and quickly rose to leadership positions in careers spanning direct sales, banking, operations, and educational staffing. Today my son is grown, and I’m realizing my next goal: putting my own experience to use to empower professional women to break through barriers, limiting beliefs, and roadblocks to achieving the corporate success they desire and deserve. A different kind of coaching I’ve synthesized my extensive life experience with years of training to create my signature method of consulting and coaching. It’s called the STAR Method to Rise, and it combines the best practices of mindset coaching, mentorship, and career consulting to provide professional women with a uniquely empowering experience of clarity and an actionable plan that gives them forward momentum. I believe the best coaches can back up real-life experience with trusted credentials, which is why I built my coaching career on my own hard-earned insights as well as specific training including:  Certified Coach Becoming a Certified Coach through The Clique Academy, an ICF Accredited Program  BA in Communications Earning my B.A. in Communications from Temple University  Executive Leadership Achieving Certification from the Executive Leadership Institute for Women, The Leader’s Edge/Leaders by Design  NLP Master Practitioner Becoming an NLP Master Practitioner with Distinction through the Centre of Excellence  Leadership Certification Attaining a Leadership Certification in Company Culture, Leadership & Best-In-Class Service from The Ritz-Carlton Leadership Center Ways to reach her: https://linktr.ee/claimyourcareer, https://claimyourcareer.com/, and https://www.instagram.com/claimyourcareer/ Side notes: My ethical non-monogamy consists of my innately loving more than one person at a time. I am naturally programmed to in all respects love two and more than two people, and I know that monogamy truly holds me back from my truest self. It's in my essence to like having human variety in my unceasing afterglow sex life, and ethical non-monogamy allows me to do so without receiving negative consequences.  My inherent identity also allows me to express my all-around attractions to others in humane fashions. I am excellent at monogamy and being in a serious committed relationship, but being with just one person is not what I desire. I enjoy persons for who they are as people. I engage in ethical casual relationships and ethical casual dating thanks to my inborn gravitations. I also am ethically childless, ethically pet-less, and ethically living alone because I am by intrinsic design, one of those "married to both my dreams and my career" types. I am also excellent at parenting, pet-owning, and living with another and/or others, but those things are not what I desire either. My being non-monogamous and my being my solo-living have zero hypermasculinity reasoning. I am a good man, The Goddesses are without complaints. I am not insecure, I am not jealous, and I am not possessive. I do not do comparisons, my partners and I appreciate each other all-around. I strictly and only have partners of inner beauty. My partners are visible human masterpieces. We indulge in our romantic, lovey-dovey habits. I am a sincere seeker when it comes to all things supernaturalism. I am of inquisitiveness about absolute certainty. I live my life on my own terms. I think and I act in uninhibited ways without conforming to normal, traditional social rules and social structures. My politics: humanely human My race: humanely human My religion: love My birthplace: The Universe, Earth My motto: Mary Sisney's Bronze Rule states: "If they are not bothering you, don't bother them." I am unconventional by nature in every which way. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

Today's guest is Veronica Rahim. Veronica is a senior career services consultant here at the Purdue CCO. As a consultant, she helps students find their passions and future jobs. Have you ever been asked an interview question that starts with, “Tell me about a time…”? These are called behavioral-based questions, and in my opinion, are always tricky to answer. Because unlike traditional questions that may ask for you to list your strengths and weaknesses, behavioral questions call for students to describe specific times they have had to overcome problems, use specific skills, or work in groups. Veronica is on the show today because she is going to talk about how behavioral-based questions can be answered by using the STAR method. The STAR method is a great approach as it can communicate student's skills and capabilities to an interviewer. So without further ado, here's my conversation with Veronica.

Scale to Seven®
Episode 58: Two Phases of Scaling

Scale to Seven®

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 21, 2020 13:11

In business, "scaling" is a word that's thrown around a lot! But did you know that this word has two very different meanings? The first definition of scaling is "to climb up and over to reach a certain height". This is like when you do something for the first time, or you figure out what works in order to reach your first 6-figures. You're literally climbing one step at a time- testing different grips and footholds, and trying not to look back or look down. Your journey to 6-figures involves trying different strategies, offers, niches, messaging and more to see what works. This is the DIY phase of scaling. You may not realize that you're adding too much to your plate and it's weighing you down. In this phase you are likely hustling to make progress. The second definition of scaling is "to increase in proportional dimension" or doing more of what already works and creating repeatable results. This phase is what will get you to 7-figures. Scaling to 7-figures is what I help my clients with, using the STAR Method: 1. Systems - Creating and documenting systems that work and can be repeated over and over. 2. Team - Entrusting others to run various aspects of your business. 3. Automation - Getting the right tools in place that save you and your team time. 4. Recurring Revenue - Building the safety net of ongoing revenue that you can rely on. It's important to know what stage you are in because, using scaling strategies that don't match where you are will keep you stuck. Think of the first phase as "addition" while the second phase as "multiplication". Remember that during the first phase, you're still trying to figure out what works. If you use the second phase strategies here, it's like multiplying by zero, hence, you'll get zero results! One of the common mistakes of entrepreneurs is implementing advanced strategies too soon in their business. Once you're ready to implement the second phase, you can start multiplying but not by using the first phase strategies. It'll be like constantly adding zeros and hoping to see growth in your business. If you continue to hustle, you're going to burnout because it's not getting you where you want to go. "You need to know where you are in your business, and make sure that you're implementing the strategies that match the stage of scaling that you're in." -Kathryn Binkley #scaletoseven If you are a 6-figure business owner and you're ready to shift to Phase 2 and experience exponential growth, sign up to my FREE workshop where I teach 6 Steps to Get to 7-Figures and break down the 7 Elements of My 7-Figure System here. The BRAND New You Show - A Personal Branding and Digital Branding podcast

Dayvon Goddard | Secrets of the Hire | Interviews Today we welcome to the show Dayvon Goddard author and podcaster at Secretsofthehire.com. Secrets of the hire is dedicated to providing insights and information to help recent graduates standout during an interview even when they are competing with someone who may be more qualified. In his book, How to Answer the 25 Toughest Job Interview Questions, Dayvon shares his insights on how to answer the questions, how not to answer and exactly what your interviewer is looking to hear from you. He even provides sample answers to each and every question that can be used by new and experienced job candidates alike. Dayvon and I spend a large part of today's show discussing the hardest part of the interview process; answering the actual interview questions themselves. SUMMARY The following methods are best way to get in touch with Dayvon. Podcast: The Secrets of the Hire Website: The Secrets of the Hire Twitter: @Secrethire Foundation: SOHscholarship.com Dayvon leaves us with these final thoughts: “Go above and beyond in everything you do. Do what it takes to set yourself up for success." DAYVON'S PATH What does setting yourself up for success look like to you? Do you know? Have you thought about it all? Like many of us Dayvon choose a major and went off to college. He graduated with a degree in accounting and was excited to start working in his chosen field. For many, this would be the definition of success. But not for Dayvon. He quickly realized after entering the workforce as an accountant, the work was not for him. He sitting in his cube one day and realized not only was he not using his degree, more importantly he was not having any kind of impact on the world or making a difference of any kind. Do you ever wonder about the same things? Dayton decided it was better to do something about his situation rather than sit back and resign himself to meaningless work. So he took action. And because he decided to Just Start, his actions not only lead him to his dream job but also inspired him to create The Secrets of the Hire website and podcast to share his knowledge and expertise. SECRETS OF THE HIRE As with most things in life, when you look back from where you are today you'll discover the road that brought you to this point wasn't straight. Rather it is usually a series of twists, turns and forks in the road which required us to make a decision. These twists and turns can be from ideas or frustrations. In Dayvon's case it was his frustration with the hiring process that inspired him to reach out to career coaches and other experts in the hiring field to seek answers, to discover why he wasn't getting responses from companies. With every conversation, with each interactions Dayvon was gaining valuable skills and knowledge. He was becoming a subject matter expert on the secrets of the hiring process. Because of his giving nature, Dayvon wanted to share his knowledge, his expertise, with others to prevent them from going through the same experiences. This lead Dayvon to turn his knowledge into resources such as the Secrets of the hire website and podcast. But he didn't stop there. Going above and beyond Dayvon, decided to give back at an even higher level and created the SOH scholarship foundation which he uses to help current college students overcome challenging financial situations. HOW TO ANSWER THE 25 TOUGHEST JOB INTERVIEW QUESTIONS Continuing his journey to make and impact on the world Dayvon didn't stop with the website, the podcast and the scholarship fund. He decided to turn his knowledge and passion into a product, a book or a resources as he humbly refers to it as called How to Answer the 25 toughest job interview questions. The content in the book all came from the knowledge he gained during his job search process and through reaching out to other experts looking for help and guidance. As I mentioned in the intro, the book provides insights on how to answer these thought job interview questions, how not to answer them and exactly what the interviewer is wanting to hear from you. Dayvon and I discuss the two most common job interview questions every person should expect to be asked during an interview. 1 - Do you have any questions for me? 2 - Tell me about yourself? We go into detail on how to answer these questions and even dive into what questions you should ask your interviewer. USING THE STAR TECHNIQUE TO ANSWER BEHAVORIAL INTERVIEW QUESTIONS One of those methods is the STAR Method. The STAR method of interviewing helps the interviewee answer behavioral or situational interview questions. The STAR Method is an acronym for Situation or Task, the Actions taken to resolve and the Results achieved. Dayton and I provide examples of how to answer questions using the STAR method. It's during this part of the interview when we talk about the importance of job research and how to leverage your past experiences into the interview in order to demonstrate how you can add value to the company. THE BEST WAY TO CLOSE OUT AN INTERVIEW Like Tim Saumier and I discussed in Show 4, Dayton shares what he has learned about the best way to close out and interview. We also discuss in detail how to follow up after a job interview.
