Ever wondered what it's like to be responsible for the cybersecurity of a sports team? How about when that sports team is one of the world's most successful Formula One teams? I can't describe how excited we are to share this interview. This interview is basically two huge F1 nerds who happen to also be cybersecurity veterans asking everything they've always wanted to know about what it takes to secure an F1 team. For the folks out there that aren't familiar with this sport, Formula One is arguably the fastest, most watched, and most international automotive racing sport today. In the 2024 season, the racing series will feature ten teams traveling to 24 race tracks located in 21 different countries. Also, did you know that only two countries get more than one race? Italy gets to host two Grand Prix, and the United States gets to host three. A HUGE thanks to Keeper Security and Darren Guccione for making this interview possible. This isn't a sponsored interview, but it was Keeper's PR team that pitched the idea for this interview to us, and as F1 fans, we're super grateful they did! Send us a Text Message.Keeper Security, a leading provider of zero-trust and zero-knowledge cybersecurity software protecting passwords, passkeys, privileged access, secrets and remote connections, introduced two major privileged access capabilities now available in the Keeper platform: Time-Limited Access and Self-Destructing Records. Designed for encrypted record access and sharing, these features provide new methods to quickly and securely elevate access and revoke access rights after they have been granted – vastly reducing the gradual accumulation of unnecessary privileges and reducing the potential attack surface for organizations.Marcia Dempster, VP of Channel Sales, Americas, and Craig Lurey, co-founder and CTO of Keeper Security, provided an overview of Keeper Security's offerings, and the concept of zero trust and its application in their product, emphasizing the importance of providing access and control over infrastructure while maintaining security. They also discussed the importance of cybersecurity and the concept of self-destructing records, which allows for secure sharing of sensitive information.

During this episode of Tech Qualified, Tristan Pelligrino and Justin Brown chat with Scott Ablin, Chief Marketing Officer at Keeper Security, Inc. During this podcast episode, Scott talks about his past work experience and explains some of the key marketing initiatives around promoting data protection and preventing password-related breaches. Highlights Scott starts the conversation by sharing his past work experience as a B2B tech marketer. Scott discusses how he has run marketing organizations at healthcare companies and IT organizations. Scott talks about Keeper and mentions how it’s a SaaS business, focusing on cybersecurity and password management. Keeper works on a subscription model that is applicable to business enterprises as well as independent consumers.  Keeper is Scott’s first venture into the security space because when he decided to leave healthcare IT, he wanted to be part of an organization where he felt at home.  Keeper prevents password-related data breaches and cyber threats.  Keeper reduces the risk of password-related data breaches for the consumer by offering a modest subscription. Keeper is a great fit for financial services, financial institutions, healthcare organizations, hospitals, hotel chains, retailers, all of these, big businesses and segments, that possess customer data. Scott talks about how he figures out how to best leverage the finite resources, how to prioritize efforts, energies, and budget. Keeper’s revenue is derived predominantly from the SMB market, but it also serves the enterprise segment as well. Keeper has an incredibly viable market-validated solution for enterprise customers. Experiential stuff, conferences, and trade shows are the few digital efforts that are put in practice to be enterprise-driven in nature.  Keeper has a very effective lead generation strategy, focused on a 14-day free business trial. Currently, Keeper generates 1200 to 1400 MQLs per month. Keeper is leveraging G2 and other software review sites to validate its offering with prospects. Scott discusses the competition of the consumer market on app stores, highly polluted, highly commoditized with free versions. Phil’s guest on this episode of the IT Career Energizer podcast is Madison Kanna. She is a software developer working at Keeper Security.  Madison is also the host of the CodeBookClub, an online community with live online meetups for beginners and intermediate developers.  She blogs about JavaScript and teaching yourself how to code without attending a Bootcamp.    In this episode, Phil and Madison Kanna discuss how someone who is new to the industry can map out what they will learn and in what order. Madison explains how to motivate and organize yourself to acquire the knowledge you need.     KEY TAKEAWAYS: (3.22) TOP CAREER TIP If you are a new developer, create a curriculum for yourself. Try to map out what you will learn. Knowing, in advance, what step you are going to take next will help you to keep momentum, so your career does not end up stalling before it has really got started.   (5.41) WORST CAREER MOMENT Early in her career, Madison just did not enjoy her work. The firm she worked for did not believe in mentoring or collaborative working. So, she had to basically teach herself at night and during the weekends.   It was a tough time for her. But it taught her that sometimes you just have to be your own mentor. It also made her realize that you need to recognize when something is not right for you and not be afraid to move on.   (8.05) CAREER HIGHLIGHT For Madison, joining Keeper Security has been a career highlight. Working in a truly collaborative environment has helped her to grow her skillset far faster.   Releasing her free JavaScript course, a couple of years ago, was another highlight. It played a big role in enabling her to figure out what she did and didn´t understand. Pushing her to learn more about JavaScript and do so in a structured way.   (9.05) THE FUTURE OF CAREERS IN I.T Madison is excited by the current developments surrounding JavaScript. It still has a lot to offer and sites like Egghead.io are making it far easier for people to keep up with the changes.   (10.05) THE REVEAL What first attracted you to a career in I.T.? – Madison took a coding tutorial and was hooked immediately. What’s the best career advice you received? – You don´t have to be the smartest person on the team. What’s the worst career advice you received? – Learn at least two more languages at the same time as learning JavaScript. What would you do if you started your career now? – Draw up a roadmap to ensure that she was on the right track from the very start and wasted no energy wondering what to do next. What are your current career objectives? – Madison wants to learn more about JavaScript, React and cryptography. What’s your number one non-technical skill? – Being an effective learner. How do you keep your own career energized? – Running the CodeBookClub. What do you do away from technology? – Madison loves to work out and spending time with her family. She also reads a lot.   (13.07) FINAL CAREER TIP Figure out what you are curious about and learn about that. Don`t just stick to learning the things you need for your job and the sector you work in. Learning about unrelated things that you are curious about will take you to new places and enable you to acquire fresh skills.   BEST MOMENTS (4.04) – Madison - “If you want to become a developer, create a plan for what you'll learn and when you'll learn and which courses you'll take.” (7.13) – Madison - “Sometimes, to prevent your career from stalling, you will have to be your own mentor.” (10.50) – Madison - “Surround yourself with people who know more than you, it is the fastest way to learn.” (13.05) – Madison - “Figure out what you are curious about and learn about that.”   ABOUT THE HOST – PHIL BURGESS Phil Burgess is an independent IT consultant who has spent the last 20 years helping organizations to design, develop and implement software solutions.  Phil has always had an interest in helping others to develop and advance their careers.  And in 2017 Phil started the I.T. For the third consecutive year, small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) have reported a significant increase in targeted cybersecurity breaches. A newly released global survey found that attacks against the U.S., U.K., and European companies are growing in both frequency and sophistication. Further, nearly half (45%) of the 2,000 respondents described their organization's IT posture as ineffective, with 39% reporting they have no incident response plan in place. The 2019 Global State of Cybersecurity in Small and Medium-Sized Businesses report underscores growing cybersecurity concerns best illustrated through the year-over-year trends dating back to 2016. The survey, commissioned by Keeper Security, measured responses from 2,391 IT and IT security practitioners in the U.S., U.K., DACH, Benelux, and Scandinavian. "Cybercriminals are continuing to evolve their attacks with more sophisticated tactics, and companies of all sizes are in their crosshairs," said Dr. Larry Ponemon, chairman and founder, The Ponemon Institute. "More businesses are experiencing highly-targeted, sophisticated, and severe cyberattacks than ever before, yet the results of our study show they aren't doing enough to close the gap," said Darren Guccione, CEO, and co-founder of Keeper Security. "We sponsor this annual research with Ponemon because we want SMBs to understand that no target is too small for cybercriminals, and it's not enough to simply be aware of the cyber threats that exist. It's critical that these businesses take the next step toward cybersecurity preparedness and get a strong prevention strategy in place." Continue the conversation with Neil Hughes, Darren Guccione, and Larry Ponemon for an informative webinar where you'll learn about the biggest threats to SMEs in EMEA and the three easy actions you can take to protect your company. Preparing for the Unexpected: Providing for Your Family When You Are Gone - CP070

Today's topic isn't one we normally like to think about. Are you prepared for death or disability? What steps can you take to provide for your family if you die unexpectedly or become disabled? We all like to think we will grow old with our wives, but it's important to take the time to make contingency plans for our families. As husbands and fathers, we have a responsibility to prepare our families for our death if it should precede theirs. Praise God we live in a time and culture where women and children aren't left homeless and destitute if the husband and father passes away. But as we reflect on the recent deaths of friends and family members, we see the burden of organization and provision for the family left on the widows. One way we can love and serve our wives is to leave them with organized plans so that they have a smaller burden if we unexpectedly pass away or become disabled and unable to work. We share a few practical tips for putting together an organized folder of information that our families will need one day. Shawn talks about internet password management. In the age of online accounts for everything, we need to leave our wives with a list of passwords to access important accounts like bank and insurance information. He recommends using something like Keeper Security to store and organize passwords and online accounts. Mark shares some of the records he keeps in his folder including information for life insurance, health insurance, homeowners insurance, disability insurance, mutual fund accounts, social security numbers, car titles, vaccination & health records, passports and more. He also includes a list of people to call for home repairs, tax preparation, car repairs, etc. Many of us have these things written down somewhere, but they are not organized. We encourage you to write them down and store them in one place and let your wife know the information is there if she needs it. You can also use Dave Ramsey's Legacy Journey product to work through some of those plans. Finally, we talk about some different types of insurance we should have set up to help provide for our wives and children if something should happen to us. We share a story about some friends that purchased long-term care insurance, not knowing if they would need it. When the husband developed Parkinson's a few years later, the wife was left with the means to pay for his care without debt. She is grateful that her husband took the time and spent the money on long-term care insurance. We believe that it's important to plan ahead for these life circumstances, as much as possible, but also want to stress that you will leave a spiritual legacy for your family as well. Take the time to prepare these practical things, while you continue to seek ways to encourage and grow your family spiritually. What steps have you taken to prepare in the event of your unexpected death or disability?
