Medienempfehlungen: ► Robert Bohn: Die Piraten ► Jann M. Izzy shares his insights on the connections and differences between improvisation, creativity, and humor. He explains that humor is a mindset that creates joy, while improv is a process that fosters creativity through restrictions. Matthew and Cyndi discuss the role of constraints in the classroom environment and how improvisation can help teachers embrace and navigate these constraints with laughter and flexibility. Have you ever seen recommendations for the books called Your One Year Old, Your Two Year Old, and so on, by Louise Bates Ames?  Every few weeks I see parents posting in online communities asking about some aspect of their child's behavior that is confusing or annoying to them, and somebody responds: “You should read the Louise Bates Ames books!” This usually comes with the caveat that the reader will have to disregard all the 'outdated gender stuff,' but that the information on child development is still highly relevant. In this episode I dig deep into the research on which these books are based. While the books were mostly published in the 1980s, they're based on research done in the 1930s to 1950s. I argue that far from just 'stripping out the outdated gender stuff,' we need to look much deeper at the cultural context that the information in these books fits within - because it turns out that not only were the researchers not measuring 'normal,' 'average' child development, but that they were training children to respond to situations in a certain way, based on ideas about a person's role in society that may not fit with our views at all. And if this is the case, why should we use these books as a guide to our children's development? Izzy Gessel, who had always wanted to become a stand-up comedian, started his career as a schoolteacher. But for years now, he has combined both in a career that widened his influence specifically as a well-rounded writer, keynote speaker, facilitator, and author among others. This choice resulted not only from searching for his life purpose but more from what he really wants to do, what he is good at, as well as what brings him an income and a quality life. A hugely self-made organizational alchemist, his quest involves creating something extraordinary from ordinary things and people. The most important tool he utilizes to achieve this lofty goal is Improv theater. He believes that one teaches what he needs to learn and that's what he has gained with Improv.Highlights:Organization - is a system of relationships; we can change organizational culture by changing individuals or by giving them insight into something about themselves they feel special aboutHumor - as opposed to comedy which is a genre of drama, humor is actually a perspective of looking at life; both are used for one end -- laughterSpontaneity - similar to mindfulness; being present at the moment and the opposite of planning for the futureCatastrophizing - is similar to negative self-talk; opposite of positive psychology, situations where one expects the worst possibility instead of the best one Improv -- teaches people to rely on as well as support each other; and to move on quickly even after making mistakes hence resulting in psychological safety and authenticityBeing one of the 15% of NSA's members to have been designated a Certified Speaking Professional (CSP), in addition to his Improv-themed books, no wonder his clients include leading names and institutions in their respective industries. If you are someone or if you belong to a group whose culture needs revamping in order for its members to thrive and become the best version of themselves, have yourself, enrolled in any Improv classes available online, or follow Izzy and the courses he offers. Today we have a returning guest Taren Gesell joining us on the show.  Three years ago, when Health Coach Radio was just getting started, one of our earliest guests was Taren, or Triathlon Taren as he's known by his many YouTube and social media followers. As the owner of the most downloaded triathlon podcast and second largest triathlon YouTube channel, the last time Taren was here he shared his journey of getting started and growing his hugely successful brand.  Now, three years later, the Triathlon Taren brand has undergone a major renaissance.  For starters, Triathlon Taren isn't Triathlon Taren anymore! Recently, Taren has dropped the Triathlon from his name in an attempt to move away from the punishing world of triathlon and toward a more holistic view of training for endurance events.  Taren gets real about the benefits and struggles of reinventing yourself after establishing a well-known brand.  He has also been busy building an innovative and novel training app and he shares a lot of fun details about what has gone into this creation.  It's always exciting and fun to catch up with folks working in this space who have been doing it long enough that we can chat with them years later and witness their evolution.  We know you are going to enjoy this super authentic conversation with Taren Gesell.  Check it out below! Taren describes his young adult life as an unhealthy and unhappy time where he realized that he was missing the challenge and fulfillment he really desired in life. 12 years later, Taren has risen to the top of content creators in the endurance world where his personalized training and nutrition programming has helped countless people discover and then realize their own dreams of completing endurance events. His approach to training is that this is where you dig deep, and really forge the mental resilience you will need to draw upon later during the race. His experiences have taught us that the more substantial discomfort is felt in training, so that the race really just becomes a victory lap. The race is going to hurt, but if you train properly, it is the expected level of discomfort. Challenging himself, and finding his passion for endurance sports has helped Taren to become fulfilled in life, and he has used that passion to help others do the same.

Are you suffering floaters, macular degeneration, cataracts? Do you feel frustrated that your eyes are getting worse every year? In this episode, I give a presentation during my recent intensive workshop, and offer solutions to many of the vision problems that people are concerned about! SUMMARY KEYWORDSeye, called, lens, cataracts, vitreous, vision, glaucoma, macula, talk, starts, cloudiness, important, moro reflex, people, lymph system, brain, optometrist, reflex, nervous system, prescription 00:05Hello, everyone, its Dr. Sam, I'd like to welcome you to my Eyeclarity podcast. This is a show that offers cutting edge information on how to improve your vision and overall wellness through holistic methods. I so appreciate you spending part of your day with me. If you have questions, you can send them to Hello at Dr. Sam Berne calm. Now to the latest I clarity episode. I like this picture of the eye because it's a picture of where we're entering this black hole, which is called our pupil. And the pupil is the light regulator, it allows light into our eyes. And based on our sympathetic parasympathetic nervous system, that's the part of our nervous system that regulates our stress levels. The muscles around the pupil are called the iris. And based on again, our stress level, this pupil can get dilated. And the bigger it gets, the lighter it allows in. The smaller it gets, the more regulates less light getting in. And I'm going to talk a little bit about stress, and how this pupil response changes based on our stress level. So the whole my whole purpose of this class and my overall 37 years this is going on my 38th year, devoting my entire career of offering a new direction and vision care. And today and tonight, and this month, we're going to talk about different strategies, protocols, exercises that can help you reach your goals. So first off, I'd like to talk about the teachers who've had a major impact in my life. And many of these teachers, who came before me, developed this whole body of work called holistic optometry, developmental optometry. And the first person on this list is a guy most of you don't know there are a few optometrists taking the course. His name was am Skeffington. He was a doctor who was a physician and an optometrist. He started behavioral, developmental optometry in the 1920s in the Midwest. And he started to talk about the eyes as a whole-body system. That's not talked about today. You know, when you go to an eye doctor, the eyes are separate from the body and we're just looking at it as a mechanical camera. And it only gets worse with age. Well, Skeffington started to teach optometrists how to think of the eyes as it related to the body. Number two, Dr. Albert Shankman, he was my optometrist, and he was a holistic doctor. I met him in his mid 70s. I was in my late 20s. And he was the doctor I went to, that helped me completely dissolve my myopia, and astigmatism. And he took a very global Mind Body approach. He incorporated yoga, meditation, and he wrote a book called vision enhancement training. I'm not even sure you can get it anymore. But it's a book that talks about the mind body connection as it relates to the eyes and many of the philosophical things that I present or based on my work with Dr. Shankman. The next optometrist, Dr. Albert Sutton, was one of my dear mentors. He was a world-renowned developmental optometrist did a lot of research in child development. He also was very holistic he worked with nutrition. And he was one of my dear friends who was instrumental in many of the different things many of the different things I do today. 05:01Number four, Dr. John Streff's and Dr. Dick Apell. These were holistic optometrists. And I studied with them when I went to the Gesell Institute. So the Gesell Institute, which was affiliated with Yale University, was started by Dr. Gesell who was a physician in 1948. I went there in the mid 80s.
