Acts of the Apostles 16: 11-15; Rs psalm 149: 1-2.3-4.5-6a.9b; John 15: 26 - 16: 4a THE SECRET OF A HELPER   Our meditation today has the theme: The Secret of a Helper. There is a female dog with three puppies that are very cute. In the morning the mother dog carried a number of bones from the back of the kitchen to feed her three children. Day and night the food were also the bones leftover from her master's kitchen. The next two days the food were still the same bones. The three children began to get bored and planned to fight.   Then all three agreed to do a hunger strike. They chose to sleep or play instead of eating bones. It turned out that when they were enjoying themselves, their mother brought fried rice from the master's kitchen. That most delicious food was just left alone until it was rotten, and the children were very disappointed when they saw for themselves that what their mother had brought was not the bones, but the most delicious fried rice they always dream to eat.   The mother dog is an example of a faithful helper to her children. Many of us are good and faithful helpers in one way or another. What form the help is like and how it is manifested, depends very much on the helper. The person who is helped does not need to be tempted to imagine the form of the help to be given to him or her. Lidya, a Christian woman in the first reading, offered lodging assistance to Paul and his companions. That is the secret of Lydia, a good and generous helper. Paul and Silas did not have to bother knowing all the contents of the plan of help from that woman and her family.   This is what we want to say about the secret of a helper. Do we ever know the secret of God's will to helps us? Never. The Holy Spirit sent by Jesus Christ and His Father from heaven for us, also has secret according to His will. Jesus only opens the card saying that His messenger is our Advocate and Defender. We just allow Him to do His job in helping us. We do not have the authority to force our desires on the Holy Spirit. The point is that, what He will do for us is our benefit and our salvation.   Anyone from us who have intention, will, plan and work to help, let him motivate himself on the principle of love. His help must be appropriate, positive, healthy and with the aim of bringing goodness and salvation to those people helped. We are not supposed to help others with evil means and ends. It is not helping, but only imposing one's own will which plunges others into trouble and suffering.   Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... Lord Jesus Christ, help us to imitate Yourself in helping others, and may we always open to all teachings of Your Holy Spirit. How can small businesses gain access to the working capital they need? Zach Bijesse of Payhippo and Tunde Kehinde of Lidya are trying to figure it out. Hear how new technologies are changing the future of lending for small businesses in Nigeria, Africa, and the world.With over 200 million people and 40 million small businesses, Nigeria is the perfect spot to launch a fintech company that's trying to push the boundaries of how businesses get capital. Both Zach Bijesse and Tunde Kehinde saw a huge market opportunity in Nigeria with its sheer size and strong startup culture. Their companies, Payhippo and Lidya, respectively, are using artificial intelligence and machine learning to make lending faster and more accessible for entrepreneurs, and in turn, more successful for this new breed of lender.Zach makes the problem clear: “Businesses can't get money in Nigeria when they need it. It's that simple.” Tunde believes that artificial — and human — intelligence are key to filling the small business lending gap. “Humans are involved in setting the rules. I think on average per loan, we have close to a thousand data points we look at. And so humans are looking to say, based on our assessment criteria, is it working or not working? And if it's not working, how do we tweak the rules to make sure the recollection is done properly?” Likewise Zach's Payhippo endorses ongoing experimentation and the importance of training their algorithms to get better over time. “People forget that you can only train your machine learning algorithm based on your data set. So, you know, we have a few defaults in our loan portfolio. That's not a bad thing. You just have to give loans and figure out what works.”Unlike most entrepreneurs, these two aren't intimidated by competition, even from banks themselves. Instead, they're always looking for opportunities to collaborate and partner. As Zach explains, “there's a $46 billion opportunity for small business lending in Nigeria. Why would Payhippo need to take one hundred percent of the market? Let's keep growing and do what we do. And then once we get a little bit of bandwidth, it'd be great to empower the other guys and collaborate with them. Lidya is amazing. Her story is the perfect example of learning to love yourself. Lidya was born with Vitiligo, a condition that causes the pigment to be lost in only portions of a person's skin. This has been an enormous source of self consciousness for her until fairly recently. It was an exceptionally real conversation about learning to be who you are and learning to LOVE who you are regardless of what others may have to say. Literally growing into comfort in her own skin has been a journey for the betterment of herself, the betterment of her relationship with her children and helped her grow in her career. Enjoy!

There is a female dog with three puppies that are very cute. In the morning the mother dog carried a number of bones from the back of the kitchen to feed her three children. Day and night the food were also the bones leftover from her master's kitchen. The next two days the food were still the same bones. The three children began to get bored and planned to fight. Then all three agreed to do a hunger strike. They chose to sleep or play instead of eating bones. It turned out that when they were enjoying themselves, their mother brought fried rice from the master's kitchen. That most delicious food was just left alone until it was rotten, and the children were very disappointed when they saw for themselves that what their mother had brought was not the bones, but the most delicious fried rice they always dream to eat. The mother dog is an example of a faithful helper to her children. Many of us are good and faithful helpers in one way or another. What form the help is like and how it is manifested, depends very much on the helper. The person who is helped does not need to be tempted to imagine the form of the help to be given to him or her. Lidya, a Christian woman in the first reading, offered lodging assistance to Paul and his companions. That is the secret of Lydia, a good and generous helper. Paul and Silas did not have to bother knowing all the contents of the plan of help from that woman and her family. This is what we want to say about the secret of a helper. Do we ever know the secret of God's will to helps us? Never. The Holy Spirit sent by Jesus Christ and His Father from heaven for us, also has secret according to His will. Jesus only opens the card saying that His messenger is our Advocate and Defender. We just allow Him to do His job in helping us. We do not have the authority to force our desires on the Holy Spirit. The point is that, what He will do for us is our benefit and our salvation. Anyone from us who have intention, will, plan and work to help, let him motivate himself on the principle of love. His help must be appropriate, positive, healthy and with the aim of bringing goodness and salvation to those people helped. We are not supposed to help others with evil means and ends. It is not helping, but only imposing one's own will which plunges others into trouble and suffering. Let's pray. In the name of the Father ... Lord Jesus Christ, help us to imitate Yourself in helping others, and may we always open to all teachings of Your Holy Spirit. May we are happy to imitate your mother, the Virgin Mary, who is also a true helper. Hail Mary full of grace ... Tunde Kehinde is the co-founder of Lidya, a branchless internet bank that aims to ease Nigeria's estimated $30 billion small business credit gap. Tunde holds a honours degree in finance from Howard University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He previously co-founded the logistics startup, Africa Courier Express (ACE). Before that, he co-founded Jumia.com and served as the e-commerce giant's Managing Director. In this chat with Andile Masuku, Tunde reflects on his founder experience and explains why investors keen on helping Lidya deliver on their mission best be ready to put some serious skin into the game.
