"Hello, my name is Russell McGee, I am the writer, director, and Starrynight Productions Executive Producer of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. You are about to listen to Episode 1 – The Company of Friends. In this episode, the adventures of young Dorothy Gale and her dog, Toto, begin when their Kansas home is swept away by a cyclone and they find themselves in the strange land of Oz. Here she meets the good witch, Locasta Tattypoo, and the Munchkins. She is then joined by the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Cowardly Lion on an unforgettable journey to the Emerald City, where lives the all-powerful Wizard of Oz. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (commonly known as The Wizard of Oz”), is the first book in the famous Oz fourteen book series by author L. Frank Baum. It was originally illustrated by W. W. Denslow, and published at the turn of the 20th century in the year 1900. It is also widely considered to be one of the very first official American fairytales or fables. WFIU Public Radio partnered with Starrynight Productions and Soundbooth Theater on a new four-part audio adaptation of L. Frank Baum's book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Writer/director Russell McGee (of Big Finish Productions Doctor Who audio plays) and producer/actor Michael Brainard (of All My Children) collaborated with Soundbooth's Jeff Hays to produce this full-cast audio play series. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz features the talents of voice actors P.J. Ochlan (known for Young Sheldon and Little Man Tate), Franc Ross (known for Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul, and Deadwood), Greta Lind (known for Rudy and All My Children), Bert Rotundo (known for Silicon Valley and Marvel's Agent Carter), Leraldo Anzaldua (known for Gatchaman and Highschool of the Dead), and a cast of many others. The entire series first aired on WFIU, Bloomington, in February and March of 2023. Since that time, episode one has been available to listen for free on the Starrynight Productions website. The entire series is being distributed by Soundbooth Theater on their digital distribution platform. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was made possible with support from Indiana Public Broadcasting Stations. We hope you enjoy listening to The Wonderful Wizard of Oz - Episode 1 – The Company of Friends." cw: cartoon violence No transcript available. http://www.starrynight-productions.com/wonderful-wizard-oz/

On the previous episode we promised a Nic Cage top ten up next, but we're gonna withhold that a little bit for now, and change up the formula a little. From here we're going to include more Round Ups and Bonus episodes that break off from the double feature format. So that means today's the day for Round up Three! The movies mentioned on this episode are The Platform (2019) , Dune (1984), Beau is Afraid (2023), Exists (2011), Resurrection (2022), The Misfits (1961), Over the Edge (1979), Little Man Tate (1991) and The Nightingale (2018). They also consider a Kevin Costner Apocalypse double feature for the future, but an entire world of water might be a bit too much to handle.
Jodie Foster considers this the second in an extremely personal trilogy of films she directed. Little Man Tate and The Beaver round out that trilogy. The always excellent Holly Hunt goes home to spend Thanksgiving with her very dysfunctional family. Robert Downey Jr. is insanely wonderful and wonderfully insane as her black sheep brother. Anne Bancroft and Charles Durning play the parents doing everything in their power to keep the family together and the holiday tradition alive. Cynthia Stevenson completes the family as the tightly wound oldest sister. The entire cast is extraordinary and the writing and directing is so sharp. It's like a Thanksgiving David Mamet cinematic feast! If you saw this underrated gem and enjoyed it too, let us know. Hon har även regisserat avsnitt av House of Cards och Orange is the new black om livet i ett kvinnofängelse. Politiskt medveten kvalitets-TV. Typiskt Jodie.

Andrew and I are back again, this time talking about former child stars that became directors!First, we look at the star of E.T. and FIRESTARTER, Drew Barrymore. With her one and only directorial effort, we have the coming of age story of WHIP IT. Will this reach Andrew's sports hating nerd heart? Will Dave get over his hatred of JUNO? HmmmmNext, we dive into the work of TAXI DRIVER star Jodie Foster. Although neither Dave nor Andrew are big fans of her other directorial work, maybe this story of a child prodigy will do the trick!Follow us on TwitterLook at the pretty pictures on InstagramDonate to the show and get rewards on Patreon!Email us and tell us we're wrong at directedbypod@gmail.com

We "make a little movie magic" with actor/writer Adam Hann-Byrd as he "pulls back the curtain" to reveal that not all that glitters is gold in Hollywoodland - in fact there are a couple of nice-sized turds here and there. From having "fart wars" with Leslie Nielsen, to dealing with primadonnas on the backlot, to having to pee while during a love scene with Emmanuelle Chriqui, to just wanting to be a regular kid, the man Jodie Foster coined "Little Man Tate" has stories for days (including a number from Halloween H20; one of Geoff's favorites)! Lots of grips and gaffes on this week's WORST GIG EVER!
Harry Connickuh everybody! In celebration of that, we check in with Little Man Tate, the 1991 kid dramedy starring (and directed by) Jodie Foster. Foster plays Dede, a working class mom in New York who struggles to raise her little man, Fred Tate, a young genius, and the pressures of celebrity and achievement coming from the early-90s obsession with kid geniuses. Connick himself also stars (well, cameos) as a charismatic college student who teaches Fred the ways of pool and awkwardly walking in on someone having sex. Despite its good intentions, the film's a bit of a slog, and most of the characters (particularly Fred) don't have the charisma to carry a feature film. Nonetheless, give it a shot and find out what you think, bolstered by our custom cocktail and rules!
Cole, Vanessa and special guest Janet Varney ("Dinner and a Movie," "Entourage") talk Corey Haim, celebrity crushes, the biosphere, shirtless saxophone solos, Dan Fielding's wardrobe, Little Man Tate, and Andie MacDowell's "acting."
Episode 30 – Movie Meltdown - This week we continue with the second half of our Veronica Cartwright Double Feature as we watch the 1978 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers. This unusually good remake also stars Donald Sutherland, Brooke Adams, Jeff Goldblum and Leonard Nimoy. We go in-depth on the finer points of Philip Kaufman's film, including the addition of the conspiracies angle, the creepy mood, interesting shots and a minor comparison to the 1956 original. And we try to get over the fact that we are all now traumatized by Donald Sutherland's face! - Plus we feature part two of our exclusive interview with Veronica Cartwright! - And as we pet the human-faced dog, we also discuss... The Tracey Fragments, Lloyd Bridges emits pheromones, re-designing Rick Baker, Nerf party, Stephen Chow, Jodie Foster, Fred Ward, wedding debauchery, The Wolfman re-shoots, casting Green Lantern, lead-painted toys, Where to go for Kato?, The 'Hoff was really cool?, self-moderation, Bruno, Michele Gondrey, Mel Gibson shoves his hand in The Beaver, experimenting with Jarts, Todd Browning's Dracula, more of The Green Hornet, you can't trust the Government, MacGruber!, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer weiner, deep-seated human fears, The Ellen Page Show, McCarthyism vs. conspiracies, The Palace Theater, poking each other with sticks, I Love You Beth Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, goopy seventies films, serious Baywatch, belly massages, marriages falling apart, the silent Phantom of the Opera, Sacha Baron Cohen, I want a giant metallic spider, Ving Rames IS Aqua-Man, Where are they going for Hooker?, Little Man Tate, remaking The Blob, The Weinermobile is awesome, Nick Fury, Remo Williams: The Adventure Ends?, commie dogs or mutant dogs, Midnight Star, Wild Wild West, gasoline-soaked pods and sobbing into your bacon sandwich. - So join us for some Pod People - the REAL San Francisco treat!
Becks catches up with Maz from Little Man Tate to find out how the group have bounced back after being dropped by their record label, as well as talking to Pete from local group The Red Bullets about playing at MK's Togfest Festival this weekend (Sat 28th June).
