Ryssland tar över ordförandeklubban i FN:s säkerhetsråd just nu i tiden.

*) China deploys tens of warplanes, ships toward Taiwan in weekend war drills China's military has sent 71 planes and seven ships toward Taiwan in a 24-hour display of force directed at the self-ruled island. That's according to Taiwan's defence ministry which said the move came after China expressed anger at Taiwan-related provisions in a US annual defence spending bill. China's military has often used large military exercises as a demonstration of force in response to US government actions in support of Taiwan. *) Ukrainian drone downed in Russian air base, deaths reported Russian air defence troops have downed a Ukrainian drone as it approached an air base in southern Russia. As a result of the fall of the wreckage of the drone, three Russian technical servicemen who were at the airfield were killed, according to TASS news agency. It was the second attack on the Engels base this month.

Biden jokes about expanded fight with Russia: 'If I gotta go to war, I'm going with you guys' Biden tells union workers, 'This fight is far from over' https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-jokes-war-russia-ukraine-union-sanctions President Biden joked about the possibility of the Russian invasion of Ukraine to expand to directly involve the U.S. military on Wednesday, telling union workers, "If I gotta go to war, I'm going with you guys." Biden made the statement during an address to union workers at the North American Building Trades Unions legislative conference Wednesday. Biden opened his speech with a lengthy section addressing new sanctions against Russia. "This fight is far from over," Biden said. "Here's the point: This war could continue for a long time, but the United States will continue to stand with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom." "And by the way, if I gotta go to war I'm going with you guys. I mean it," he added. Biden's statement comes after months of he and other administration officials stating that the U.S. will not deploy troops to Ukraine. The U.S. military has limited its deployments to nearby NATO countries, and warned Russian President Vladimir Putin that invasion of one of those countries would mean direct war with the U.S. --------------------------- In fiery speech, Ukraine's Zelensky implores U.N. Security Council to hold Russia to account https://ca.news.yahoo.com/zelensky-address-security-council-renewed-115338286.html Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in an impassioned address to the U.N. Security Council on Tuesday, likened perceived Russian atrocities in his homeland to Nazi war crimes, calling for Nuremberg-style tribunals to hold Moscow accountable. “They shot and killed women outside their houses. They killed entire families, adults and children, and they tried to burn the bodies,” Zelensky said in a video appearance before the Security Council, a day after an emotional visit to the ravaged town of Bucha, outside the capital, Kyiv. “They cut off limbs, slashed throats, raped women in front of their children," the Ukrainian leader said in his most forceful excoriation to date of the Russian invasion. In a perhaps risky strategy of sharply criticizing the body from which he is seeking help, Zelensky issued a stark challenge to world institutions such as the United Nations to make sweeping changes to the global security architecture, asking sardonically at one point: "Are you ready to close the U.N.?" “It is obvious that the key institutions of the world … simply cannot work effectively,” said the 44-year-old president, who has won worldwide accolades for presiding over his compatriots' fierce and sustained resistance to the Russian attempt to subjugate Ukraine. ----------------------------- Some hoped FDA approval of Pfizer's COVID vaccine would convince unvaccinated Americans. It didn't, study finds. But a study published Wednesday in JAMA Network Open found the shift from emergency use authorization of the vaccine to full approval did not sway unvaccinated Americans. Researchers from the University of Utah analyzed vaccination data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention starting July 25, a month before full FDA approval, to Sept. 9, the day before President Joe Biden made his vaccine mandate announcement. Using the vaccination rate leading up to full approval, they estimated how many doses would have been administered compared to the actual recorded number. Study authors found FDA approval was associated with an overall 36% increase in vaccinations, but most were second doses. First doses, they found, were 16% lower than predicted. Health experts are not surprised by the study's findings. “The reason why people get vaccinated has very little correlation with whether or not something is approved or an EUA,” said Dr. Jay W. Lee, a family physician and chief medical officer of Share Our Selves community health center in Orange County, California, who is not affiliated with the study. ---------------------------- Anti-vaccine beliefs come from a childhood of mistrust, study claims Are recent politics really to blame for the widespread resistance to the COVID-19 vaccine? A new study suggests that the real answer may go much deeper than people think. Researchers from Duke University say the passionate opposition to vaccinations and policies like mask mandates can trace its roots back all the way to a person's childhood. Their study claims that growing up in an atmosphere of mistrust leads to these attitudes later in life. “We had so many friends and family who initially said that the pandemic was a hoax, and then refused to wear a mask or social-distance, and kept singing in the choir and attending events,” says study senior author Terrie Moffitt in a university release. “And then when the vaccines came along, they said ‘over their dead bodies,' they would certainly not get them,” adds Moffitt, Duke's Nannerl O. Keohane University Distinguished Professor of Psychology & Neuroscience. “These beliefs seem to be very passionate and deeply held, and close to the bone. So we wanted to know where they came from.” ‘Don't trust the grownups' Researchers used data from the Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study, which has been tracking nearly all of the 1,000 people born between 1972 and 1973 from a single town in New Zealand. Researchers have been measuring each person's social, psychological, and health factors since childhood — giving scientists insights into how these early years impact adulthood. Study authors conducted a special survey of the group in 2021 to examine each participant's stance on the COVID-19 vaccine before the shots became available in the country. The team then matched each person's responses to the records on their upbringing and personality over the years. Results show that, 40 years ago, respondents who are now vaccine-resistant or express vaccine hesitancy had more adverse childhood experiences than others. These include incidents of abuse, neglect, threats, and other hardships such as poverty. -------------------------- Democrats Interrogate Oil Executives About "America's Pain At The Pump" As public opinion poll after public opinion poll has confirmed, surging gas prices is one of the most controversial issues in the US. As President Biden made clear when he announced his plans to release 180 million barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, Democrats are doing everything they can to try and blame rising prices on President Putin and the American energy industry (which Biden accused of greedily holding back on production, even though his own energy policies have made it harder for shale producers to do so). So, in their latest attempt to blame the spike in prices on evil corporate America, Democrats on the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations are holding a hearing on Wednesday, where they will interrogate the CEOs of Exxon Mobil, Chevron, BP America, Shell USA, Devon Energy Corp and Pioneer about the dynamics driving the surge in prices at the pump. The title of the hearing tells one everything they need to know about the overall tone: "Gouged At The Gas Station: Big Oil And America's Pain At The Pump". In testimony submitted to the subcommittee, the oil executives explained that a combination of labor and supply shortages have stopped their companies from raising output back to pre-pandemic levels, while the price of oil and gas are largely determined by international market conditions beyond their control. Of course, this reasoning was apparently lost on the Democrats. In an interview with Reuters, Democrat members of the committee are already sharpening their knives. "We will not sit back and allow the fossil fuel industry to take advantage of the American people and gouge them at the pump," Diana DeGette, a Democrat and chair of the subcommittee, said about the hearing at which executives from Exxon Mobil, Chevron, BP America, Shell USA , Devon Energy and Pioneer will testify. "We want to know what's causing these record-high prices and what needs to be done to bring them down immediately," she said. Many Democrats have complained that oil companies have made record profits while consumers face high prices. In addition to the executives, former Trump Administration National Security Advisor HR McMaster, now a senior fellow at Stanford's Hoover Institute, will also participate. ----------------------- FEATURED GUEST NEW BOOK from #1 Nationally Bestselling Author: The Dancer and The Devil April 6, 2022, Washington, D.C.—Communism must kill what it cannot control. So, for a century, it has killed artists, writers, musicians, and even dancers. It kills them secretly, using bioweapons and poison to escape accountability. Among its victims was Anna Pavlova, history's greatest dancer, who was said to have God-given wings and feet that never touched the ground. But she defied Stalin, and for that she had to die. Her sudden death in Paris in 1931 was a mystery until now. The Dancer and the Devil: Stalin, Pavlova, and the Road to the Great Pandemic by nationally bestselling author John O'Neill and international lawyer Sarah Wynne traces Marxism's century-long fascination with bioweapons, from the Soviets' leak of pneumonic plague in 1939 that nearly killed Stalin to leaks of anthrax at Kiev in 1972 and Yekaterinburg in 1979; from the leak of a flu in northeast China in 1977 that killed millions to the catastrophic COVID-19 leak from biolabs in Wuhan, China. Marxism's dark past must not be a parent to the world's dark future. COMMUNIST CHINA PLAYED WITH FIRE AND THE WORLD IS BURNING Nearly ten million people have died so far from the mysterious COVID-19 virus. These dead follow a long line of thousands of other brave souls stretching back nearly a century who also suffered mysterious "natural" deaths, including dancers, writers, saints, and heroes. These honored dead should not be forgotten by an amnesiac government trying to avoid the inconvenient truth. The dead and those who remember and loved them deserve answers to two great questions. How? Why? The Dancer and the Devil answers these questions. It tracks a century of Soviet and then Chinese Communist poisons and bioweapons through their development and intentional use on talented artists and heroes like Anna Pavlova, Maxim Gorky, Raoul Wallenberg, and Alexei Navalny. It then tracks leaks of bioweapons beginning in Saratov, Russia, in 1939 and Soviet Yekaterinburg in 1979 through Chinese leaks concluding with the recent concealed leak of the manufactured bioweapon COVID-19 from the military lab in Wuhan, China. Stalin, Putin, and Xi, perpetrators of these vast crimes against humanity itself, should not be allowed to escape responsibility. This book assembles the facts on these cowardly murderers, calling them to account for their heartless crimes against man culminating in COVID-19.

Among its victims was Anna Pavlova, history's greatest dancer, who was said to have God-given wings and feet that never touched the ground. But she defied Stalin, and for that she had to die. Her sudden death in Paris in 1931 was a mystery until now. The Dancer and the Devil traces Marxism's century-long fascination with bioweapons, from the Soviets' leak of pneumonic plague in 1939 that nearly killed Stalin to leaks of anthrax at Kiev in 1972 and Yekaterinburg in 1979; from the leak of a flu in northeast China in 1977 that killed millions to the catastrophic COVID-19 leak from biolabs in Wuhan, China. Marxism's dark past must not be a parent to the world's dark future.COMMUNIST CHINA PLAYED WITH FIRE AND THE WORLD IS BURNINGNearly ten million people have died so far from the mysterious Covid-19 virus. These dead follow a long line of thousands of other brave souls stretching back nearly a century who also suffered mysterious “natural” deaths, including dancers, writers, saints and heroes. These honored dead should not be forgotten by amnesiac government trying to avoid inconvenient truth. The dead and those who remember and loved them deserve answers to two great questions. How? Why?The Dancer and the Devil answers these questions. It tracks a century of Soviet and then Chinese Communist poisons and bioweapons through their development and intentional use on talented artists and heroes like Anna Pavlova, Maxim Gorky, Raoul Wallenberg and Alexis Navalny. It then tracks leaks of bioweapons beginning in Saratov, Russia in 1939 and Soviet Yekaterinburg in 1979 through Chinese leaks concluding in the recent concealed leak of the manufactured bioweapon Covid-19 from the military lab in Wuhan, China. Stalin, Putin, and Xi, perpetrators of these vast crimes against humanity itself, should not be allowed to escape responsibility. This book assembles the facts on these cowardly murderers, calling them to account for their heartless crimes against man concluding in Covid-19.

Fizzling the borders between different worlds of music, Berlin-based musician, Serge Geyzel originates from a classical and jazz music background.Born in Saratov, Russia, the musician dedicated 12 years of his life to the study of classical music, with a specific focus on the piano.Since moving to Berlin in 2014, exploring the tendencies of electronic music in town , influencing his very own sound, Serge Geyzel combines his affinity to the early 2000's electronica with the aesthetics of electro and dark ambient colors in his current music production.Preferably using analog synthesizers and drum machine, as well as field recordings and self-recorded acoustic instrument samples, the musical result is being a combination of poetic layers and heavy electro beats.
Russian police reportedly detained as many as five former activists from Alexey Navalny's disbanded political network on Tuesday, December 28. According to various reports, arrests were carried out in the cities of Tomsk, Irkutsk, Arkhangelsk, Barnaul, and Saratov (though not all of the detentions have been confirmed). Following interrogations, investigators brought criminal charges against two of the detained activists -- former regional coordinators Ksenia Fadeeva and Zakhar Sarapulov -- for involvement in an extremist group and participation in a nonprofit organization that infringes on the rights of citizens. Both Fadeeva and Sarapulov were arraigned on Tuesday and placed under restrictions pending trial. Original Article: https://meduza.io/en/feature/2021/12/28/retroactive-repression

This week our guest on the podcast is Sergei Babinets. Sergei Babinets is a lawyer and head of the Orenburg branch of the Committee against Torture, whose head office is in Nizhny Novgorod. The issues discussed in the podcast include: How did someone who had intended to work in the prosecutor's office went to work for a human rights organisation? How does the work of the Committee Against Torture vary in terms of city and region (Moscow, Grozny, Orenburg)? How did you become a journalist (with Ekho Moskvy in Orenburg)? What are the risks that face a human rights defender in Russia today? Is the work of a human rights defender at the Committee Against Torture equally risky across the country? What do you think of the recent revelations of torture in Saratov region penal colonies? To what extent is the state a positive and reliable partner in the work against torture? What is the future of the human rights movement in Russia in the light of what is happening in the country now? This podcast is in Russian. You can also listen to the podcast on our website or on SoundCloud, Podcasts.com, Spotify, iTunes and Anchor. The music, from Stravinsky's Elegy for Solo Viola, is performed for us by Karolina Herrera. Sergei Nikitin writes on Facebook: He dreamed since childhood of protecting people from criminals, following in the footsteps of his soldier-grandfather and his father, who worked in the police force for 25 years. After receiving a law degree, he decided to work in the prosecutor's office, which oversees all law enforcement bodies. Four years as an assistant prosecutor and attempts to join the prosecutor's office as a full-time employee led him to realise that the prosecutor's office didn't really seem to want him. The search for a job where Sergei Babinets could realize his dream led him to the Committee against Torture. Many years ago, I met Sergei in Moscow. He had just started working in the Moscow office of the famous Committee against Torture and he called on us at Amnesty International. Since then, I have kept in touch with Sergei, who after Moscow worked in many cities: Nizhny Novgorod, Grozny and Orenburg. The possibilities to combat torture and protect victims of torture varies from region to region. While in the North Caucasus the office where Sergei worked was set on fire, if in Nizhny Novgorod the group's exhibition was banned, if in Moscow ‘Basmanny Justice' simply does not want to pay any attention to human rights activists, in Orenburg the Committee Against Torture can hold events on any topic - here there is no interest in opposing human rights defenders. Sergei Babinets successfully combines his human rights activities with his work at Ekho Moskvy radio in Orenburg: he is good at this work too, and therefore it's very interesting to listen to him in our latest podcast.

A source in law enforcement told the state news agency that Rashkin was stopped in the Lysogorsky District of the Saratov Region while driving under the influence, and that police found an elk carcass in his vehicle. Inmates in the prison hospital in Saratov, southwestern Russia, were allegedly tortured and filmed. The videos, which have now been revealed, are a blow for law enforcement officers. And it might not be an isolated case.

The human rights project Gulagu.net (No to the Gulag) reported on Tuesday that it had obtained more than 40 gigabytes of recordings evidencing the physical and sexual abuse of inmates in Russian prisons. The group also published three video clips that allegedly show security officials abusing inmates at a prison hospital in the Saratov region. Russia's Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) responded by launching an internal investigation and the Attorney General's Office launched its own inquiry, as well. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that if the recordings are deemed authentic, they will be "cause for serious proceedings." In particular, the report traces a number of companies back to Volodin's relatives, as well as expensive properties in Moscow, the Moscow region, and Saratov. The FBK also tallies up Volodin's regular trips from the Russian capital to his home region on a super-expensive jet owned by the presidential administration. Meduza summarizes the investigation here. Original Article: https://meduza.io/en/feature/2021/07/22/the-state-duma-s-jet-setter

Important Events January 26, 1943 Today is the anniversary of the tragic death of the Russian botanist and plant geneticist Nikolai Vavilov. Regarded as one of the giants of plant science, Nikolai established over 400 research institutes, and he brought Russian plant explorers on expeditions to more than 50 countries around the globe. Worried about genetic erosion and destruction, Nikolai marshaled his resources toward preserving plant genetic diversity at every turn. To that end, Nikolai hoped that seed banking and his St. Petersburg seed vault would prove invaluable. The goal of ending hunger drove Nikolai, and to that end, he worked to collect specimens and run experiments in order to increase crop yields. After concluding that genetic diversity was the key to his mission, Nikoli realized that most of the world's agriculture came from eight specific regions - places with ancient roots where plants were first cultivated. Nikolai got caught up in the politics of communism when a fanatical Soviet agronomist and geneticist, Trofim Lysenko, denounced Nikolai’s work as anti-communist. After being arrested in 1940, Nikolai was sent to a concentration camp at Saratov, where he eventually died of starvation on this day in 1943. He was 55 years old. Meanwhile, Nikolai’s loyal team of seed collectors also faced starvation - and some starved to death - as they held up in the Russian seed bank. Despite being surrounded by many edible seeds, these valiant botanists successfully protected seeds from all over the world during the 900-day siege of St. Petersburg by German and Finish forces. Today this seed genebank is known as the Vavilov Institute of Plant Genetic Resources. January 26, 1905 Today is the birthday of the Connecticut landscape architect Eloise Ray. In Ruth Harley’s book Pest-Proofing Your Garden, we get a little glimpse into Eloise’s approach to gardening: “Eloise confesses that she long ago gave up her battle with the local groundhog. Over the years, she determined which plants appeal to him. Now she limits her crops to the plants the groundhog doesn’t eat — tomatoes, eggplants, red and green peppers, chives, all kinds of onions and, perhaps, parsley.” As a Landscape Architect, Eloise often worked with her husband, Jo Ray, who was also a Landscape Architect. Eloise was a marvelous artist, and she was known for her delicate illustrations, and she was exceptionally fond of realistic sculpture. Eloise is remembered through her gardens and estate work throughout Fairfield County, Connecticut. In 1978, the New York Times featured an interview with a 60-year-old Eloise at her Westport Home. Eloise reflected on her career, “[I started] in the heyday of the large estates of the late ‘20s, when we would put in gatehouses, decorative brick walls, dramatic driveways, servants’ driveways, formal gardens, walks, greenhouses, and shrubs designed for intricate topiary. We would estimate the need for at least eight full‐time gardeners for most of our estates.” Unearthed Words I shall never desert the bulbs, though, and last winter, I think I got more pleasure from a pot of February Gold daffodils than from anything else I raised unless it was my pots of freesias. February Gold, which is a medium-small, all-yellow narcissus of the cyclamen type, for me proved to be January Gold; it opened its first flowers on New Year’s Day. That was the miracle. There is no trick to growing it in pots if one has a cool cellar, and Wayside Gardens, where I got my bulbs, says it can also be grown in bowls, like the paper-whites. — Katharine S. White, gardener and garden writer, Onward and Upward in the Garden Grow That Garden Library The Joy of Botanical Drawing by Wendy Hollender This book came out in 2020, and the subtitle is A Step-by-Step Guide to Drawing and Painting Flowers, Leaves, Fruit, and More. In this book, Wendy shows you how to, “achieve amazingly realistic and vibrant botanical illustrations, from flowers so dazzling you feel as if you might be able to smell them, to tomatoes that look as if they've just been picked from the garden.” Known for her incredible botanical illustrations, Wendy shares her honed techniques through little lessons that build as your skills grow. Using colored pencils and watercolor pencils, Wendy specifically shows you how to draw a spiraling pine cone, a spiky chestnut, a fuchsia-tined radish, a graceful morning glory, and many more. Wendy writes, “I first learned botanical-illustration techniques twenty years ago. The moment I understood these techniques, a door opened for me, and I immediately fell in love with the practice of botanical drawing. Since that day, it feels like the plants are leading me along a path that I steadily follow.” This book is 192 pages of inspiring botanical illustration how-to from an artist that practices with botanical subjects every single day. You can get a copy of The Joy of Botanical Drawing by Wendy Hollender and support the show using the Amazon Link in today's Show Notes for around $17 Today’s Botanic Spark Reviving the little botanic spark in your heart Today is National Seed Swap Day - the first one we've had during a global pandemic. This year, instead of a traditional in-person seed swap, many of us will need to consider sending seeds in the mail or dropping them on the porch of a garden friend. Earlier this summer, I saw an excellent idea. A woman transformed her Little Free Book Library into a place where you can swap out seeds - a Little Seed Library. This year, if you have leftover seed after planting or when your flowers are producing seed, you can always share them in a Little Seed Library, or with a garden friend - or you can even share them with people you don't know thanks to neighborhood apps like NextDoor. And, if you feel so inclined, consider building a Little Seed Library for your front yard. I think it's such a sweet idea. I love the idea of Little Seed Libraries popping up all over the country. Thanks for listening to The Daily Gardener. And remember: "For a happy, healthy life, garden every day."
Words cannot describe the love I have for my brother Corbin Allred. We've known each other for half of our lives now. Most people know Corbin from the many movies and TV shows he's been a part of: Teen Angel, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Saints and Soldiers, etc, but what many people may not know is that Corbin and I served LDS missions together and were able to have incredibly fun, memorable, and deeply significant experiences together. We took a stroll down memory lane for a bit and then started discussing some of the current adventures Corbin has had being a physician's assistant. But now, Corbin Allred, myself, and our other good friend and partner in crime, Jasen Wade, have created an online acting course called Acting Out. We are super excited to bring this to the forefront of people's eyeballs. Corbin and I chatted about the fun times we had creating it and what are hopes are with the course. Enjoy!
This story will shock you. Just over 20 years ago, Andrew Propst and Travis Tuttle were kidnapped, held for ransom for five days and let go while serving missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Saratov, Russia. Propst and Tuttle’s story goes far beyond a miraculous ransom survival story, which is why Garrett Batty contacted them to make a movie, “The Saratov Approach,” out of their shared experience. As the Associate Producer of the Saratov Approach, Andy Propst helped fund, write, promote, and deliver a national theatrical release of a full-length motion picture that won multiple awards and returned an IRR to its investors of more than 1000%. Andy Propst is now the CEO of HomeRiver Group, a Meridian company that has acquired a half-dozen property management companies around the nation in the last two years and now manages nearly 5,000 rentals in 20 states. Andy has over 15 years of experience both in residential and commercial real estate management. Past President and Owner of Park Place Property Management, a Certified Residential Management Company (CRMC®), in Boise, Idaho. Andrew has illustrated throughout his career his resolute commitment to delivering first-class results for clients, as well as consistently improving efficiencies and operations across his companies. Industry knowledge and a keen focus on technology has been a major priority for Andy. He has obtained three of the leading industry designations: Certified Property Manager® (CPM®) from the Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM®), Master Property Manager ® (MPM®) and Residential Management Professional ® (RMP®), both from the National Association of Residential Property Managers ® NARPM®. Volunteerism has been a major focus and joy for Andy, from service on the National Board of Directors of NARPM® for six years as a Regional Vice President, to National Treasurer, National President-Elect, and then his election as President of The National Association of Residential Property Managers (NARPM®) in 2015. www.homeriver.com/team Enjoy this episode and share with us your thoughts on social media @bvadev! ------------------------------------------------------- About the Podcast: Connecting with the community is a priority for BVA. In episode two, we learn of the deadly pogrom in Sara's Belarusan town when Sara was just 12 days old. Like many Soviet Jews after the Bolshevik Revolution, Sara's family left the Pale of Settlement, where Jews had been confined since the late 18th century, for Russia proper, moving to Saratov and then Astrakhan during Lenin’s “New Economic Policy.” New episodes are available every Wednesday from August 1 to October 17, 2018. http://sarascentury.blogs.rutgers.edu/
David and Grant talk about how after the first few weeks the novelty of moving to a new culture and nation wore off and reality set it. Things weren't as perfect as they thought it would be living in Saratov, Russia. Basic things like language and even access to water became roadblocks to assimilating to the culture of Russia in 2003.

Welcome to Secrets of Organ Playing Podcast #127! Today's guests are Dina Ikhina and Denis Makhankov who are a family duo of young organists from Russia. Yesterday the organists have performed for the first time in Vilnius St. Johns' Church Organ and presented before the New Year's Eve a concert entitled "Farewell to Old Year", in which the audience enjoyed the works of J. S. Bach, P. Tchaikovsky, A. Chekalin, A. Pärt and other composers. Dina was born in 1986 in Saratov, Denis – 1988 in Ivanovo. Both studied organ music in St. Petersburg under a well-known Russian Federation artist prof. D. Zaretski, later harpsichord under prof. I. Rosanov and have acquired postgraduate degrees in Music. Since 2014 these organists perform together. The duo concert program consists invariable of pieces by modern composers. Currently, the organists perform in Russia and throughout Europe, also teach at the St. Petersburg N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatoire and at city music schools, organize organ music festivals in Russia and Estonia. At the same time, the organists work in the famous Arts Palace in Kondopoga, Karelia, and also organize the annual “Grande Orgue” International Organ Music Festival. Dina and Denis are among the founders and organizers of the project "Organ Concerts in Pechory". The project collects funds for the restoration of the historic Pechory (Pskov Region) organ of the St. Peter church. They were awarded the State Prize "National Recognition 2015" in the Initiative category (Pskov, 2016) and the Pskov Administration Award for this project. In this conversation, Dina and Denis talk about their organ playing adventures and give such wonderful advice as not being afraid to try new things, trusting your ears, life-long study, consulting with experts and trying out many instruments with different acoustics. We had this conversation at the restaurant so the environment is a bit noisy but since my guests talk rather slowly in English, I hope you will be able to follow it. Listen to the conversation And don't forget to help spread the word about the SOP Podcast by sharing it with your organist friends.

Edward Cohn analyzes changes in Communist Party discipline in the Soviet Union from the Eighteenth Party Congress in 1939 through the 1960s in The High Title of a Communist: Postwar Party Discipline and the Values of the Soviet Regime published by Northern Illinois University Press. He focuses on the 20 years after World War II when five to seven million Communists were disciplined by reprimand, demotion or expulsion. Cohn argues that Part leaders became less concerned about class background and ideological purity and more concerned about the needs of the state. As a result, corruption and abuse of position, along with moral degeneracy such as family relations and drunkenness, dominated internal investigations and disciplinary hearings. Cohn draws on a broad range of provincial case files in in Perm, Tver, Saratov, and Kiev, along with archives of the Commission of Party Control in Moscow, to reveal what the Party considered to appropriate behavior for those who carried the high title of Communist. Edward Cohn is Associate Professor of History at Grinnell College and is the the chair of the Russian, Central, and Eastern European Studies concentration (RCEES). Learn more about your ad choices.
