For many Hotels, partnering with a Spa Management company to operate the Spa is a good idea. There are, nonetheless, many potential conflicts that may arise. Thus, hammering out the details of Management Agreement beforehand is essential. Key Commercial Terms, Expense Allocations, Marketing & Promotions, Guest Data, etc are all big conversations that must be had. The major PRO for the Hotel in adopting a business model such as this for their Spa is not having the day-to-day operational burden of the Spa. The major CON is that they need to give us a good slice of the Spa Revenue...and often, control. #hotelspa #spabusiness #businessmodel #spamanagement

Here's what you'll learn in this episode: Being an unintentional entrepreneur. Treat time as your currency. A cool way to scale a business when you are your brand. Joshua began his career with disappointment in Grade 5 outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, when he was NOT permitted to perform in the schools annual Talent Show. Rather than letting him perform, the teaching staff decided they needed little Joshua to be the Master of Ceremonies and Compere the event, instead. He probably would have been excited.....if he had any clue at all of what a Compere was.He did eventually find out. He began his paid Compere career with Carnival Cruise Lines in 1998, gaining unparalleled experience in the Entertainment and Hospitality space, while also establishing himself as the Youngest Cruise Director in the company's history at 24. Charged with the Entertainment and Marketing/Promotions across the entire 4000 passenger ship, he also had his first management and leadership role overseeing the drama-free performers, which included the dancers, musicians, activities staff and technical crew. Working with other Cruise Lines such as Celebrity and Royal Caribbean, he eventually came back to land, where he piloted the new role of Director of FUN for Hotel Management Company, Starwood Resorts, whose portfolio included well-known brands such as Westin, Sheraton, W, Le Meridien and more. In these roles, Joshua's Leadership skills were honed and invested in by the company. It was at this point that Joshua really began to focus on what Corporate Training, Personal Development and Staff Engagement was all about in a more traditional work environment. Particularly, the idea of a life/work balance. At this point, that concept was a foreign one. You see, on ships, Cruise Director is not a job or role, it's a lifestyle. You, literally, never leave work. So Joshua approached his land-based jobs the same way, which you can imagine, is a recipe for burnout.Currently the Chief FUN Officer and Founder of FUNancial Services and joshuariffe.com, Joshua is known for his speaking and programs for personal development, productivity, customer service, and presentation/public speaking expertise. While building his coaching & training business, he has focused on the scalability of a coaching practice and it's inherent challenges when you are your brand. As a result, Joshua has also created a new arm of FUNancial Services which creates and designs e-learning/intranet sites for companies and people to drive staff engagement and also monetize their own content. While his speaking engagements have taken him literally around the world, Joshua is proud is proud to call Newcastle home with his wonderful wife Rebecca and little boy, Jude. Welcoming in 2018, the crew touched on some topics that still had old ways of thinking. However, there are some positives as well that kicked off the New Year. Something funny that happened, Coolio wants white people to remember one rule of thumb when it comes to hip-hop -- the "E-R" will always get you in trouble ... as a "Jeopardy!" contestant learned the hard way. The rapper dropped his grammar lesson while reacting to a contestant mispronouncing "Gangsta's Paradise" on Monday night's episode. Nick Spicher said "gangster" instead of "gangsta," and it cost him $3,200...damn homie! If you check Google, Lavar Ball founded the NBA. No, LaVar Ball did NOT found the NBA -- despite some Google search results -- and now the company admits they "dropped the ball" when creating an online bio for the Big Baller. It was fun while it lasted :). 2 Chainz says he's still on the fence over taking Walmart to court for allegedly ripping off his Dabbin' Santa sweaters ... but sounds like he's leaning toward a phone call to his lawyers. Apparently, he may sue Walmart for selling sweaters that look almost identical to his OG concept from 2015; I would! In unfortunate news, curious to know how many people killed by the police in 2017...listen in to find out more! HOORAY for Cali! The passage of Proposition 64—the Adult Use of Marijuana Act—made recreational marijuana legal in the state on Jan. 1. Unfortunately for a lot of smokers, they will still have to rely on medical recommendations for the foreseeable future as cities sort out who can and who cannot sell marijuana legally in the state.
