In this episode, Cameron Mazzeo, a NJ-based licensed clinical social worker, shares his personal journey and what inspired him to create a private practice that caters to alternative lifestyles and relationships. Cameron and I discuss the importance of expanding his practice to include other communities, such as the kink community and ethically non-monogamous relationships. Cameron emphasizes the value of authenticity and representation in the mental health field and shares stories of individuals (including himself) who have befriended and changed the perspectives of those with opposing views. He also advocates for the inclusion of LGBTQ narratives in education from a young age. This conversation explores the importance of promoting inclusion and diversity, the need for education and exposure to different cultures and ways of life, and the challenges of challenging stereotypes and prejudices. It also discusses the need for diversity in the mental health field and improving access to mental health services. Our conversation also delves into the experiences of navigating gender transition, relearning gender norms and expectations, and the impact of body positivity and body shame. Si pasaron en estos días por la Laguna Garzón, en el límite entre Maldonado y Rocha, habrán notado que buena parte de la superficie está cubierta por plantas. Esta vegetación, que no es la habitual, no sólo afea el paisaje; también afecta la pesca y los deportes acuáticos. Las plantas vienen avanzando hace semanas al punto de que hoy cubren el 80% del espejo de agua. Ante esa situación, productores y pobladores de la zona, pidieron a las autoridades que se realicen obras para conectar la laguna con el océano, algo que allí ocurre naturalmente pero hace uun años y medio que no se da. La expectativa de los vecinos que presentaron la solicitud es que el agua del mar se lleve las plantas que cubren la superficie. El Ministerio de Ambiente estudia la posibilidad de llevar a cabo esos trabajos, pero espera que el nivel del agua de la laguna aumente, para que la apertura tenga efectivos positivos. Vamos a profundizar en el estado ambiental de la Laguna Garzón y en las soluciones posibles a la situación actual. El ARA San Juan, un submarino clase TR-1700, de 66 metros de largo y 3,6 de ancho, había perdido contacto con la Armada a las 7.19 del miércoles 15 de noviembre de 2017. Ocho horas antes el jefe de operaciones del submarino había notificado sobre un principio de incendio en el tanque de baterías número 3, provocado presuntamente por el ingreso de agua por el sistema de ventilación, que fue lo que terminó provocando su hundimiento. Al momento de su desaparición, el buque con 44 tripulantes a bordo navegaba en medio de un fuerte temporal, mientras patrullaba la zona para tratar de identificar buques que pescaran ilegalmente dentro del espacio marítimo argentino. Dos años más tarde del hallazgo se conoció que el gobierno de Mauricio Macri ocultó a los familiares y a la opinión pública que habían ubicado al submarino el 5 de diciembre de 2017. Este dato fue revelado por uno de los oficiales de la Armada procesado en la causa, Enrique López Mazzeo, al declarar ante la justicia federal de Caleta Olivia. But many organizations, governments, and private companies often fail to implement policies within the workplace to foster a better environment and work culture that could lead to better conservation. I was recently contacted by a listener to tell me about a mistake that I made in referencing the terms equality and equity. The conversation developed into a great exchange of ideas that lead to this interview about implementing diversity and inclusion training and policies in the workplace. Christie Mazzeo-Pfoertner works for the New York Department of State and tells you how she personally got involved in becoming more aware of diversity and inclusion, which led to her volunteering to be on a working group for the department.
