The state is able to take advantage of the social capital by deploying social actors and in exercising social capital, through the process of persuasion. They'll be putting on pressure on these families, but the pressures being put on them are social pressures. People would often cave into this social pressure. So, there is compliance, but it doesn't feel like state repression.Lynette OngBecome a Patron!Make a one-time Donation to Democracy Paradox.A full transcript is available at www.democracyparadox.com.Lynette Ong is a professor of political science at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto. India's digital payments industry will triple to touch $10 trillion in total transaction value by 2026, according to a report by PhonePe, Walmart's Indian fintech unit, and BCG. Coinbase is extending its hiring freeze indefinitely. NASA is outsourcing its Lunar spacesuit development to two companies including Axiom Space, which is backed by investors including India's Sanjay Mehta. Notes: India's digital payments industry will triple to touch $10 trillion in total transaction value by 2026, according to a report by Walmart's Indian fintech unit PhonePe and BCG, a consultancy. Non-cash payments will constitute nearly 65 percent of all payments by 2026, up from 40 percent today, the companies said in a press release. UPI adoption will surge from 35 percent in FY 21 to 75 percent in the next five years. And merchant payments via digital modes will grow from $0.3-0.4 trillion today to $2.5-2.7 trillion by 2026, according to the release. Coinbase, one of the largest crypto exchanges, plans to extend a hiring freeze that it announced two weeks ago into the “foreseeable future.” The company will also be pulling some job offers, CNBC reports. Coinbase said it was informing prospects of the rescinded offers by email on Thursday. The company also said it was extending its severance policy to those individuals and will help them with job placements and resume reviews. “After assessing our business priorities, current headcount, and open roles, we have decided to pause hiring for as long as this macro environment requires,” LJ Brock, Coinbase's chief people officer, wrote in a blog post on Thursday. “The extended hiring pause will include backfills, except for roles that are necessary … for security and compliance, or to support other mission-critical work,” Brock wrote. Oracle Corp has secured unconditional EU antitrust clearance for its $28.3 billion acquisition of US healthcare IT company Cerner Corp, the EU competition authority said on Thursday, Reuters reports. The acquisition, Oracle's biggest, would give the company access to a large volume of data and could bring more healthcare clients to its cloud platform. NASA announced that two private companies — Axiom Space and Collins Aerospace — will develop the next-generation spacesuits that future astronauts will wear on the Moon, The Verge reports. These new spacesuits will play a critical role in NASA's Artemis programme, the agency's flagship initiative to send humans back to the lunar surface. Currently, NASA is aiming to land the first Artemis astronauts on the Moon by 2025. Among Axiom Space's backers is well-known Indian VC investor Sanjay Mehta, founder of the firm 100x VC. 3DBio Therapeutics (3DBio), a clinical-stage regenerative medicine company, and the Microtia-Congenital Ear Deformity Institute announced yesterday that they have conducted a human ear reconstruction using the AuriNovo implant, an investigational, patient-matched, 3D-bioprinted living tissue ear implant. When it comes to the surveillance state, the government has continually privatized much of its data collection. While the media is focusing most of their coverage on a potential conflict between Russia and Ukraine, there are many other issues that are being ignored. As we continue to see the privatization of the surveillance state, it is nothing more than the government's attempt to sidestep the pesky Constitution. Security Squawk - Episode 4 - Bryan Hornung and Reginald Andre - In our first episode of 2021, we discuss the announcement that Microsoft & McAffee were forming a team to put an end to ransomware. Will it work? Can ransomware or viruses really ever be stopped? We also discuss a recent article that discusses the U.S. Capitol protests that turned into a big fat mess. During that event, it has been reported that the trespassers have accessed the computer systems of U.S. federal employees who work in the U.S. Capitol building. Finally, a quick update to the Orion SolarWinds hack. We've learned that SolarWinds outsource a significant part of the Orion platform to an Eastern European firm, JetSpeed. It has been reported that JetSPeed was compromised, and that is how the backdoor could have been inserted into the Orion software. Also, Microsoft confirms that hackers could access the private source code of some of their products. We discuss what that means and whether Microsoft could also be dealing with back door exploits of their own.

Joe Biden ran as a moderate during the primaries, and he’s been running to the far left ever since he sewed up the Democratic nomination. His pick of Sen. Kamala Harris is another example of how he has outsourced his agenda to the radical element of his party. During her brief time in the Senate and as a presidential candidate, Ms. Harris has staked remarkable radical positions. Newsweek ranks her voting record as more liberal than Sen. Bernie Sanders.’ She was one of the first to sign on as a co-sponsor of Mr. Sanders‘ extreme plan to eliminate private health care plans and allow the government to take over our health care system. Tragically, we’ve seen how incompetent government can be when New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered people who tested positive for the coronavirus into nursing homes. Sadly, thousands needlessly died. Letting the federal government run our health care system will likely lead to long waits for medical attention, rationing of care and many medical professionals leaving their positions... Outsourcing is a weirdly fraught topic for moms, partly because of cultural expectations of what we should be doing, partly because of gender stereotypes, partly because of whatever our own mothers did, but maybe even more because of the pressure we put on ourselves to do everything and be everything to everyone. Then there’s the cost. In this episode we’ll talk a bit more about some of the barriers to outsourcing and then we’ll talk about creative ways moms outsource all sorts of jobs, on all sorts of budgets. In this episode, self-made businessman and coach Dino Tartaglia and co-founder of World Class Leadership Simon Hartley continue their five characteristics of wildly impressive and successful entrepreneurs. After briefly touching on block two: embracing and accepting challenges from episode three, we dive headlong into attribute number three which is constantly solving problems. The profound difference between finding an answer/quick fix and solving a problem: Seeking an answer is a one and done action Seeking an answer tells me what to do, read, watch . . . Imports someone else’s answers and solutions Outsources the challenge Solving a problem does the following: Pushes the entrepreneur to stay a step or two ahead Allows for learning from others but sculpting a solution to our specific business. Explore the Entrepreneur journey! If we import an answer from someone else blindly we are hoping it works. When it doesn’t work out or we don’t get the results the expert got we tend to blame that expert instead of taking responsibility for not doing our own legwork. The journey doesn’t focus only on the destination of success, but instead means revisions and pivots. Simon shares a story about BuzzFeed’s startup and change from banner ads. (Buzzfeed's full backstory here) The Entrepreneurial Method Theory Test/experiment Failure Review/learn/recreate Start again Dino and Simon are definitely not trying to tell fledgling entrepreneurs and startups not to bring in an expert when one is needed. Absolutely us an expert. Absolutely outsource particular elements of your business such as marketing. How can you tell if you’re shifting responsibility or outsourcing responsibility? Take an inventory with the below bullets. Do you have or want to develop this skill? (example sales) No - shift responsibility to a specialist - this is not outsourcing Even though you are not responsible for the sales portion specifically you are responsible for Understanding how it works Being able to speak to your numbers Making informed decisions As we move forward in this series we can see how each characteristic piggybacks onto the other and why they create the most impressive and wildely successful entrepreneurs. So far on our journey, Dino and Simon have introduced us to the first characteristic - finding a problem and passionately caring about solving it. In the previous episode, we discussed characteristic two - accepting/embracing challenges which led us to number three today with problem-solving. Come back for the next episode of the podcast when our hosts discuss with us the number four characteristic - sharing our passion and engaging in others. “Business is an intellectual sport.” “It’s okay to fail and then pick yourself up.” “Start to understand currently little things make a big difference often.” Visit our Website! www.successengineers.co Dino’s LinkedIn: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/dinotartaglia?trk=pub-pbmap Simon’s LinkedIn: https://uk.linkedin.com/in/simon-hartley-897a8113
Yaughdeady on Youtube, Medium, Anchor, SoundCloud, YouTube, Instagram, Reddit, TikTok, Lasso, linkedin,Twitter and Discord (BEATS BY insta: @andywaterfalls) Yaughdeady okay so what do we have here? Now from the very beginning, i started of really small. The entire time while i'm watching this, the only thing i can think of is, how this could've gone in any number of directions. There could've been a slew of other lines that i could've put but the end result is not at all what i would i would expect. Now looking back on it, i cant help but feel as though this is what someone who works at a tech store would look like if they were an alien. If at the same time there was like a slight tear, that looks like an eye, through space and time. This little thing is just, this little nonsense, in the middle of everything. Then there all these dots, i feel like that's where all the space comes in. That's why this is an alien because its just so many dots, look at all these dots, all over the place. If anyone ever questions you as to what it would look like if an IT genius bar-esque person would look like, if they were an alien, this is definitely what you would have to show them . Without a doubt a hands down.

Jeremy Powell (aka JP) grew up in Florida and his family couldn’t care less about the car culture. JP spent his early years skating and building ramps. When he graduated high school in 1995, he bought a Honda Civic and started to modify it with an intake and some headers. After feeling zero performance gains, he decided to bolt on a turbo kit which really woke the car up! From here on out, he became addicted to performance. During college, he decided that he wanted to work in the aftermarket automotive industry. He mailed a copy of his resume all over the country to various parts manufacturers in hopes of landing a job. After a few weeks went by, he received a voicemail from AEM and ended up getting an interview! He landed the job and began development on their first ECU which became known as the AEM Series 1. A few years passed and he received a job offer from HP Freaks in Oregon. His new job was to design and manufacture parts for BMW’s. After a few years, he decided to start making totally unrelated parts on the side and unofficially started Radium Engineering. Fast forward to 2015 and they decide to make a legit business out of it and go full time. They started into the fuel management system while upgrading a Lotus. It had really bad starvation problems and had a fuel pump that was very difficult to access. They decided to make a surge tank for the car to get around having to deal with the stock pump. This is how they got started down the path of making fuel systems for various cars! Radium Engineering is still just 3 people and they are now in Portland, Oregon and rent a 3,000-square foot facility. They outsource all of the CNC machining, laser etching, anodizing, and powder coating and have no plans to ever buy their own equipment. This allows them to focus on the design, assembly, and shipping their products.
We discuss possible effects that the Trump presidency will have on the tech world. The ideas are more or less known, but the details and whether they'd be enacted are sketchy and unreliable. Before that, of course, we talk about containers. This episode features Brandon Whichard (https://twitter.com/bwhichard), Matt Ray (https://twitter.com/mattray), and Coté (https://twitter.com/cote). Mid-roll Matt: Dec 1st and 2nd - DevOps Days Australia 20% discount code - SDT2016 (https://ti.to/devopsaustralia/2016-sydney/discount/SDT2016). K8s Operators Stateful applications for K8s, a shot at Mesos (https://coreos.com/blog/introducing-operators.html)? Prometheus & etcd first examples (spark? hadoop?) This begs the broad question: so, what’s CoreOS’s business posture now? Azure Container Service, now with K8s Those Microsoft folks will just put anything that looks tasty in their cloud (https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/blog/azure-container-service-the-cloud-s-most-open-option-for-containers/) - what a reversal from the Microsoft we grew up with. Docker in Production: A History of Failure From this dude’s perspective (https://thehftguy.wordpress.com/2016/11/01/docker-in-production-an-history-of-failure/): a failure of product management and stable releases. Bugs, documentation spotty, cleanup scripts, kernel support (Debian!?), aufs & overlay & overlay2, 7-hour outage with no post-mortem “Docker only moves forward and breaks things” “The docker hype is not only a technological liability any more, it has evolved into a sociological problem as well.” A retort… that mostly agrees (https://patrobinson.github.io/2016/11/05/docker-in-production/) “boring tech is what makes money” shiny tech makes resumes? Mesosphere Jay Lyman on the momemtum (https://451research.com/report-short?entityId=88226): “Mesosphere does not disclose its number of paying clients, but says it has dozens of large enterprise customers, its primary target. The company says its experience supporting software deployments in production is among its key differentiators, helped by the use of Apache Mesos by companies such as Twitter, Netflix, Airbnb, PayPal and Yelp, which was featured in a 451 User Deployment Report. Mesosphere says its focus is customer deployments of 500-1,000 nodes per day in production. It also says the bulk of its customers are licensees with professional services accounting for less than 10% of its clients, which tend to move to its subscription software.” TrumpTech, aka, “Putting the 400 lbs hackers on diets.” Turns out there is some marginally clear policy, just not McKinsey title mode versus white papers (http://www.vox.com/2016/11/10/13584390/donald-trump-first-100-days). Jonathan Shieber@Tech Crunch (https://techcrunch.com/2016/11/09/what-does-a-president-elect-trump-mean-for-silicon-valley-nothing-very-good/): "The biggest question facing millions of Americans this Wednesday is: just how much of what Donald Trump said on the campaign does he intend to actually try to make happen." (For example, Korea (http://www.vox.com/world/2016/11/10/13585524/donald-trump-phone-call-south-korea-park-geun-hye).) Dave Lee, at the BBC has a good laundry list: “Uncertainty, frustration and an increased fragility for the global home of tech innovation. Mr Trump certainly won't want to go down as the president who destroyed Silicon Valley, but the concern here is that of the few policies that have been explained in detail, some seem directly at odds with each other.” 10% repatriation program (http://blogs.barrons.com/techtraderdaily/2016/11/09/apple-adobe-cisco-citi-focuses-on-big-techs-big-trump-tax-windfall/) - tech companies have tons of cash abroad: Historic rates (http://www.investopedia.com/terms/r/repatriation.asp): “At the highest tax rate, corporations must pay 35% to repatriate capital, minus local taxes charged by countries in which the funds are held.” Hardware: “AAPL (93% of $230bln), CSCO (91% of $64.6B), IBM ($8.2B total cash, undisclosed % of cash held overseas but note 58% of earnings are from non US operations), HPE ($10.0B total cash, undisclosed % of cash held overseas but 65% of earnings are from non US operations), HPQ ($5.6B total cash, undisclosed % of cash held overseas but 65%-70% of earnings are from non US operations), JNPR (94% of $3.2B).” Software: “Specifically, some of the mid and large cap companies that have large cash balances “trapped” offshore are likely to benefit from being able to return a portion of this cash to shareholders. We note companies with high gross cash balances trapped offshore include: ADBE (85% of $4B – from 2015 10-K), ADSK (86% of $2.1B), CA (76% of $2.7B), CTXS (80% of $2.45B), FTNT (38% of $1.2B), ORCL (76% of $56B – pre-N), MSFT (96% of $113B – pre-LNKD purchase), RHT (42% of $2.0B), SYMC (93% of $5.6B – post-BC), VMW (77% of $7.5B), VRSN (68% of $1.9B). We believe the chances increase of a larger share repurchase or (lesser chance) dividend from these companies.” Apple & Amazon are not in a good situation (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2016/11/09/tech_trump_silicon_valley/) - they’ll be a good test of WTF happens. Meanwhile, tech stocks dropping a bit (http://www.marketwatch.com/story/tech-stocks-plunge-for-second-straight-day-after-trump-win-2016-11-10). Ovum has a shit ton of quick analysis, all free (https://www.ovum.com/us-presidential-election-2016/): Fear of US public cloud companies, globally (https://www.ovum.com/will-trump-presidency-mean-public-cloud-computing-2-2/). Remember the freak-out from NSA stuff? Same idea. I think the Gemans got over it. Outsources (https://www.ovum.com/providers-prepare-trump-presidency-potential-impact-global-delivery-2/): “A massive curtailing of H-1B visas, for example, will mean providers will need to make immediate shifts in what they’re able to offer customers locally, unless or until they’re able to compensate with talent.” “For providers, there’s also the unanswered question of the impact on US government spending.” [Education](https://www.ovum.com/trumping-expectations-now-us-public-sector-2/ - some proposals for de-centralizing, meaning fragmentation of IT spend. Government talent, regulations, and spending (https://www.ovum.com/trumping-expectations-now-us-public-sector-2/) - “If there is a large exodus of high-caliber and skilled staff, how will departments fill the gap? It also raises the question of funding for programs aimed at modernizing tech in the federal government such as F18 and FedRAMP. Trump might reduce the barriers to swapping out tech and push down expenditure that way. Certainly, the high cost and length of time needed to get Authority to Operate (ATO) under FedRAMP has been a barrier to uptake.” Telcos (https://www.ovum.com/trumps-victory-will-affect-us-telecoms-market/) - other than him stating he’d stop the AT&T/TimeWarner merger, telco stuff is very unclear. No one’s sure what the traditional Republican +/- Trump equals, or what the formula is. Chinese buyers have recently picked up Ingram Micro, which swings nearly $50bn worth of tech gear and services each year, 25-year-old printer maker Lexmark and even a majority stake in the gay dating app Grindr."
