Pat Thompson spends most of his time helping early-stage companies create their communication strategies. He started his career doing PR/Marketing for emerging technology companies in San Francisco and went on the be the editor of the North American Region for a tech publication called CoinGeek.com before diving head-first into the world of early-stage start-up investing and support at two start-up incubators. Afterward, he launched the Bootstrap First incubator, helping idea-stage founders and pre-revenue businesses in the Philadelphia area go from initial concept to early adopter launch in 100 days. Pat still helps a few early-stage founders on their journey to early adopter launching and growth but is currently spending most of his time doing communications about consumer-facing artificial intelligence for a media agency in London as he prepares to take his next step in his career (entering law school in fall 2025 so that he can better-help businesses navigate their legal obstacles). If Pat isn't spending his time learning about new technologies and business frameworks, then he is probably roasting coffee, collecting watches, snowboarding somewhere on the east coast, or watching college basketball. Event based data is a rich source of information for analytics, unless none of the event structures are consistent. The team at Iteratively are building a platform to manage the end to end flow of collaboration around what events are needed, how to structure the attributes, and how they are captured. In this episode founders Patrick Thompson and Ondrej Hrebicek discuss the problems that they have experienced as a result of inconsistent event schemas, how the Iteratively platform integrates the definition, development, and delivery of event data, and the benefits of elevating the visibility of event data collection for improving the effectiveness of the resulting analytics. If you are struggling with inconsistent implementations of event data capture, lack of clarity on what attributes are needed, and how it is being used then this is definitely a conversation worth following.

A couple of weeks ago Chris got word through social media that his friend, Patrick Thompson, like many, right now had gotten sick. It was super encouraging to hear over the last few days that he has recovered and is doing much better. Patrick and Chris have been friends for over 10 years now from back when he was a youth pastor living in Georgia. Patrick and his family were called as church planters to New York City almost 8 years ago and Chris' church has had the blessing of partnering with him a couple of times now on short term mission trips. We asked Patrick if he'd be willing to come on the podcast and share his experience with what it was like to be sick with the virus. We also wanted to have some hard conversations about how this might impact the future of the church and youth ministry in the coming days. I had the good fortune to meet Patrick Thompson at my Portland Escape from Cubicle Nation workshop in 2009. At the time, he had left his corporate job as a software development manager and was working on a speed-reading app called QuickReader. Patrick said that at 46 years old, he realized that it was the right time to try and see if he could replace his corporate income with his own business developing mobile device applications. Fast forward 18 months and he has leveraged the code from the original application to create a string of new products, including MegaReader, which has had lots of press coverage, and great sales. In this interview, Patrick talks about how he built his software app business from idea to fully thriving endeavor. Find Patrick on Twitter @pthompson.
