Dr. Purvi Parikh knows these issues well and has been a frequent television commentator and bringer of sanity amidst the craziness of the last two years. She's Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Allergy and Immunology at NYU Langone. On December 12, 2019, a group of patients in Wuhan, the capital city of the province of Hubei in China, began experiencing shortness of breath and fever. Little did the world know that these clandestine occurrences of "pneumonia of unknown etiology" in that 3,280 mi² area would affect the whole globe up to this day almost three years later. Having declared this novel coronavirus, "SARS-CoV-2," as a public health emergency back on January 31, 2020, and the formalized name "COVID-19" as a pandemic that March 11, the virus has a current global death toll of more than 5 million people.Though devastating the deaths that this pandemic has imbued on our world, its effects have truly transcended the medical aspect of societies: people lost jobs, many lost hope, and many were isolated from their loved ones. With the powers of medical technology, research, and science, we arrived at these departments' byproduct which seemed to be the "hope" that the world was waiting for: vaccines. However, despite the anticipation and yearning for this hope, the reception towards this "light at the end of the tunnel" was met with resistance and hesitancy spurned by myths and misinformation by anti-vaccine movements, especially on the virtual platform. It was, therefore, a no-brainer to look to those whose mission was to disseminate information that was sound, evidence-based, and backed by peer-reviewed science. And that is who I brought on for this episode, COVID-19 science and vaccine communicators that I personally trust (and two people who send me the best memes ever): Dr. Stacy de-Lin (board-certified Family Medicine physician and Gynecology & Family Planning Specialist) and Dr. Purvi Parikh (double board-certified in Internal Medicine and Allergy and Immunology, vaccine trials researcher, and NYU School of Medicine clinical professor).Join us in our conversational journey about all things medicine (from medical school to the weirdest objects they pulled out of a person during residency), the pandemic (how they and their practice changed throughout), and what they truly believe is the solution to this pandemic. This episode includes brief discussions around the topic of physician suicide.Livestream Air Date: July 5, 2021Dr. Stacy De-Lin: IG @stacydelin_mdDr. Purvi Parikh: IG @panipurvinyc, FB @purviparikhmd, & Twitter @purviparikhmdFriends of Franz: IG @friendsoffranzpodChristian Franz (Host): IG @chrsfranz & YT Christian Franz

COVID-19 has truly divided the nation into all aspects of society: physically, emotionally, politically, religiously...you name it! This was exacerbated by the roll-out of the mRNA vaccines by Pfizer BioNTech and Moderna during the end of 2020. The virus that was weakening the whole country seemed to become a bipartisan issue muddled by a myriad of misinformation and myths that flooded the internet. Because these erroneous information could cost someone's life, it was just right that we sought enlightenment and data from figures most reliable: evidence-based, up-to-date, and peer-reviewed science. There was no better expert to reach out to than Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Sanofi COVID-19 vaccine trials researcher, the current part of the new MOMI-Vax clinical trials, assistant clinical professor at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, medical contributor to the nation's biggest news channels, the youngest president of the New York Allergy and Asthma Society, double-board certified pediatric-adult Allergy and Immunology physician, AND most importantly...my birthday twin (Taurus unite): Dr. Purvi Parikh.Receiving her bachelor's degree in Political Science from Emory University in 2004, attaining her medical degree from St. George's University School of Medicine in 2008, completing her Internal Medicine residency in Cleveland Clinic Hospital in 2011, and further fulfilling an Allergy and Immunology fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in 2013, Dr. Parikh is currently practicing as an allergist and immunologist in New York, NY where she treats patients of all ages. It was, therefore, of no doubt that we reached out to her for all things COVID-19, the fresh roll-out of the mRNA and adenovirus vector vaccines during the recording time of Spring 2021, and immune response in general. From discussions about her medical journey to allergy talks about sensitivity vs. intolerance vs. allergy and the rarest allergy she has ever encountered, and to every topic under the sun about the COVID-19 vaccines (Pfizer vs. Moderna vs. Janssen vs. Astrazeneca, the mRNA technology, incidences of blood clots, malicious claims of infertility and spontaneous abortion, their long-term safety, and natural immunity), we dissect the common questions that the general public had and feared during its first roll-out. Dr. Parikh has a very clear goal: to hopefully save lives by relaying correct information...and this is what Friends of Franz is all about! This episode includes brief discussions around the topic of physician suicide.Livestream Air Date: April 7, 2021Dr. Purvi Parikh: IG @panipurvinyc, FB @purviparikhmd, & Twitter @purviparikhmdFriends of Franz: IG @friendsoffranzpodChristian Franz (Host): IG @chrsfranz & YT Christian Franz
