We turn to our financial guru, Peter Cishecki. Peter is a Registered Financial Planner and President of the Everything Financial Group.
Filipinos love free stuff, even in getting financial advice. But is free advice really for free? If not, then how much does free advice cost? Also, why would you pay for a piece of financial advice if you can watch YouTube videos and a lot of Financial Advisors offer it for free? Here's the thing…. Consumers need to understand that Financial Advisers who offer free advice are intermediaries and are not doing charity. They are are compensated by financial companies via commissions. If they are giving "advice", they get something out of the products sold. It is still fine if the product sold is suitable, but sometimes, it is not. There lies the catch. There is always that angle of conflict of interest that one needs to be aware of. You really don't know whether what they are selling to you is really good for you or good for them as a commission-generating sale. On the other hand… There are those who are fee-only advisers or “fiduciaries” who are legally obliged to act in your best interest. They usually charge a flat salary or fee or receive a cut (1 percent is typical) of the assets under management. Because of the compensation structure, these advisers are seen as having fewer conflicts of interest than commission-based advisers. Fee-only advisers are rare in the Philippines, and I know that there are still a lot of commission-based advisers who truly have the heart to help their clients. So in this somewhat controversial topic in the Financial Services Industry, I have invited Mr. Aya Laraya. He instantly became one of my FinLit heroes when I first watched his Pesos and Sense program. He's been involved in different financial industries in the Philippines since 1989. He is a Certified Securities Representative, a Registered Financial Planner, a Certified Investment Company Representative, a Realtor, a writer with an MBA from University of Western Australia and the Founder of Ronin TVM App, a mobile app for financial advisers to efficiently engage clients and prospects. In this episode we'll tackle the REAL cost of free advice, what you need to be careful of when getting a free advice, how to find the right adviser, and more! --- Jay Adrian Tolentino AKA “Kuya Jay” is a Financial Literacy Evangelist and an Independent Financial Coach based in Dubai. He holds certifications from the Chartered Insurance Institute UK (CII) - Award in Financial Planning and Award in Investment Planning, and from the Registered Financial Philippines - Associate Financial Planner (AFP) and Registered Financial Planner (RFP). He worked as a Consultant in one of the top brokerage firms in the UAE and a Yaman Coach under the Personal Finance Advisers (PFA) in the Philippines. He got featured in ABS CBN Balitang Global in April of 2019 for the Empowered Expats vlog along with Seigmond Abad. June 2020, he was given the Excellence Award in Insurance & Other Financial Services by the Filipino Social Club as part of the celebration of the Philippine Independence Day. Also last August 2020, he was invited to speak in Congress to represented the sentiments of many OF's regarding the mandatory 3% contribution being asked by Philhealth. He also hosts Business Mondays, Finance Fridays, and Real Talk On Real Estate thru his Purpose Driven Finance FB page & YT channel, which can also be listened to on Pera & Purpose Podcast available on Spotify, Apple Podcast and other major podcast platforms. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/perapurposepodcast/message

Warren Buffet is arguably the most famous investor on the planet, and his investing style is called "Value Investing". Old school 'tong si Uncle Warren, and in these modern times, with the advancement of technology and other investors who developed new ways of investing, meron pa bang sense i-apply ang kanyang technique? I think one of the greatest deficiencies of our generation is our obsession with showcasing our deficits. What if we focus more on enhancing our talents, gifts and strengths? Embracing our weaknesses and doubling down on our strengths allow us to capitalize on what we do well, and build on what we need help with (whether through getting better at our job or improving our Personal Finance). My first guest for 2021 is Coach Ron Magsalin. He is a former Overseas Filipino who worked in Emirates Airlines as a Senior Cabin Crew for 6 years. Now a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach and a Registered Financial Planner, he facilitates transformational development by uncovering talents of individuals and help them use their strengths to their career, relationships, finances and other important areas of their lives. --- Jay Adrian Tolentino AKA “Kuya Jay” is a Financial Literacy Evangelist and an Independent Financial Planner based in Dubai.
