Dr. Ross White, author of "The Tree That Bends: How a Flexible Mind Can Help You Thrive." The author celebrates the concept of Flexibility and defends it as a sign of strength rather than weakness.
Bill Stone, chief investment officer at Glenview Trust, says that the stock market has priced in so much good news that it makes him want to be more cautious, looking into headline risks for potential value opportunities. Stone notes that the stock market has had previous periods with three strongly positive, consecutive years — and it could complete that process again this year — but it makes him nervous that the market could adjust and re-set. That's not pushing him out of stocks, but has muted his expectations. Charles Rotblut, editor at AAII Journal, discusses the organization's investor-sentiment survey, which shows that nervousness is on the rise, but so is bullish sentiment. Kyle Guske, investment analyst at New Constructs looks at large-cap value funds and finds an attractive pick this week — rather than looking for the standard Danger Zone trouble spot — noting that even in a category that is doing well, top potential performers stand out. Plus, author Ross White discusses his recent book, "The Tree That Bends: How a Flexible Mind Can Help You Thrive."

With the Academy Awards over, we thought we would release this recording of NI's own Oscar recipients, Tom Berkeley and Ross White, which we made last year as part of Northern Ireland Screen's Masterclass series. In the famous Screen 1 of Queen's Film Theatre, Ross and Tom were generous with their time and shared experiences of festivals, networks, early influences and plans for the future. Thanks to Christine Morrow, New and Emerging Talent Executive at Northern Ireland Screen, for organising the event and for all the attendees for being there. Support the show
Happy New Year! We're back with an amazing first episode of 2024 as the BAFTA and Oscar winning duo of Tom and Ross join Alex to discuss what it's actually like picking up an Academy Award as well as discussing their latest film 'The Golden West'. They also take us all on an incredible trip, as we talk the terror of found footage horror Paranormal Activity, the brilliance of Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and how Will Smith makes you weepy in The Pursuit of Happyness. Appropriately enough there's some bickering about whether Step Brothers is funny or not and whether Ross' unpopular opinion about Finding Nemo should be accepted at all! They also screen a wonderfully, sentimental pair of films to end their journey! [Pastors Greg and Josh Surratt talk "Top Gun: Maverick" and "The Jesus Revolution," recent movies that hit the big screen] On most summers, Seacoast Church does a teaching series called “At the Movies,” in which recent movie releases are dissected a bit, the teaching pastor on that particular Sunday highlighting some helpful applications, mixing in some scripture and showing some of the clips. Because of copyright issues, any live-feed containing movie clips gets rejected fromYoutube and Facebook, two platforms Seacoast Online uses to broadcast Sunday services. Thus, this last summer, a different route was taken on these two platforms, essentially an aired video podcast with that weekend's speaker, a conversation about the movie and about their sermon from various angles. What you hear today are two of those conversations: Pastor Greg talking about The Jesus Revolution and Pastor Josh Surratt on Maverick, i.e. Top Gun part II. Oíche mhór d'earnáil scannánaíochta na hÉireann a bhí ann aréir ag Gradaim Oscars na bliana 2023 agus 14 ainmniúchán ar an iomlán faighte ag aisteoirí agus ag scannáin. Tom Berkeley and Ross White are two filmmakers also from the GSA family. They met after completing the BA Acting programme in 2014 and have since set up their own production company Split Second Productions. Which is for everyone from actors, musical theatre performers, and those interested in technical theatre. Their experience in playwriting has seen them be shortlisted for the Bruntwood Prize, Papatango Prize and Kenneth Branagh Award for New Drama writing. They transitioned into filming in 2020 and co-founded the Belfast-based production company Floodlight Pictures which is the vehicle to drive their own projects. Such as two great films in ROY with David Bradley, and AN IRISH GOODBYE. ROY was shortlisted by BAFTA for Best British Short Film, and AN IRISH GOODBYE recently won the European Audience Award in Leuven International Film Festival in Belgium. Tom and Ross take me through the ins and outs of filmmaking, the challenges, the rewards and the editing process. As well as working for David Bradley and how his preparation is a benchmark for actors working on sets. How to prepare multiple variations of scenes and believing in your work. Such a great talk, Tom and Ross are still active in the filmmaking industry with more exciting projects up and coming in the new year. Long enough that the critics realize that you’re going to get there one way or another… so they follow.” -Seth Godin "I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. In our first season we spoke with Deli Fresh Design owner Ross White about his company and what drove him to start his business. “Behind every DFD bag is the idea that simple gear allows you to fish more. This notion grew from my passion for good design. Growing up hiking, camping and fishing in Connecticut and Colorado have contributed to this philosophy. As someone who makes fly fishing gear, I have a responsibility to help protect the environment. By using materials made from plastic waste and by repurposing climbing rope and sail material in my bags, I hope to be a part of the solution rather than the problem.” We could not agree more! After throwing away my fishing vest and switching to his sling pack my fishing life has never been the same. We’ve partnered with DFD to produce some exclusive sling packs, beer koozies and streamer wallets just for our listeners and you can check them out on our website at www.remotenopressure.com
Ross White tells us why more than 250,000 jobs will be created over the next five years in the healthcare sector.
Mick is joined by academic researchers from the University of Liverpool who are launching a new study to look at the mental health of footballers. Dr Ross White and Andrew Bethell are encouraging academy and professional players at all levels of the game to sign up, so clubs, associations and stakeholders can spot early signs of potential problems, and encourage wellbeing across the sport. Full details can be found on www.onthehead.org Follow @MrMickCoyle on Twitter, and @livuni for the latest from the University of Liverpool. As heard on Radio City Talk on Monday 26th February 2018.
Ross White tells us about his journey with his company Deli Fresh Design. The outdoors have significantly shaped his life including hiking, camping and especially fly fishing. That love is what drives him to make goods that function in fishing environments whether fishing high altitude lakes in Colorado for cutthroat, or casting to resident New York City stripers in The East River. Inspired by his love for classic NYC Delicatessen and is where the DFD name comes from. His hope is to create products that are simple, durable, and always live up to your expectations. Everything is made by Ross in Denver, Colorado in limited quantities or custom ordered.

Will robots help or hinder our jobs in the future? Ross White, chief data analyst at Good Education Group, answers "both".
A new ranking measuring student experience, employment outcomes, and starting salaries, has placed Australian regional universities on top.
An analysis of Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority data shows that pricey private schools don't necessarily produce students with better academic results, and that putting kids in single sex schools make more of a difference.
With air-tight verse and talent for the surreal, Ross White invokes a sibling version of our world in his new collection How We Came Upon the Colony (Unicorn Press, 2014). By tilting our view slightly to the left, he allows us to ask necessary questions of the familiar. How entitled are we to our many geographic and spiritual colonies? Has our idea of Manifest Destiny merely shifted from Westward Expansion to industry in a world that has stretched far beyond “local” but retains the individuality loaned to us by Capitalism? Can history itself be colonized? These are the poems of a mind at work sorting out an individual and shared history. That White could contain such worlds in clean and steady lines, speaks to his mastery of craft. He seeks to illuminate rather than explain, and to offer possibilities rather than moral solutions. In proof that we should still sit in wonder at these strange real and imagined worlds, the reader is left with this final image: When there is no light, the farmer smokes his pipe and waits patiently to be possessed by hope.
