Nathan Connolly has been the guitarist with the acclaimed Northern Irish rock band Snow Patrol since 2002. Simon & Neil risk any remaining shred of credibility by reviewing Avril Lavigne's 2002 album Let Go. Released at the time of Pop-Punk saturation & armed with a trio of radio-friendly big hitters, Avril's debut was seen for many as an attempt by record company bosses to cash in on the scene by creating a girl punker to peddle to the younger female demo… and it worked. The disc was the biggest pop debut of 2002 worldwide and made Miss Lavigne the youngest ever female to have a UK No.1 album but is it actually any good? Full disclosure, both Simon & Neil are full of ‘festive spirit' in this episode. Be warned. In 2012 the BBC decided to commemorate the then 20 year career of one Mr. Pete Tong on their radio platforms by polling the great British public for their favourite dance records put out during Tong's tenure. We begin by looking back at Mr. We Continue's work but quickly descend into a full-on drunken tune-fest. Basement Jaxx, Armand van Helden, Josh Wink, The Chemical Brothers and lots, lots more get an airing. Enjoy the last show of the year and we'll be back soon Get in touch with your feedback jukeboxpod@gmail.com Follow us on Facebook and Instagram @jukeboxpod
Biffy Clyro frontman Simon Neil joins us to talk through the new album 'The Myth Of The Happily Ever After', featuring the singles 'A Hunger In Your Haunt' and 'Unknown Male 01'. He tells us how the record evolved out of sessions for 'A Celebration Of Endings' to become something new, progressive and lyrically reflecting life during the pandemic. We also look back on debut album 'Blackened Sky' which celebrates its twentieth anniversary next year. Plus, we reflect on the band's headline slot at Reading & Leeds Festival, their recent cover of Metallica's 'Holier Than Thou' and Simon's collaborations with Architects and While She Sleeps.

Our guest on this latest episode of Soundtracking is a world-famous frontman with a genuine passion for score. SImon Neil is a guitarist and lead vocalist for Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro - whose most recent album A Celebration Of Endings went straight to the top of the UK album charts. But as you're about to hear, he really does know his stuff when it comes to movie music too. Man, do we cover a lot of ground! This week, we're joined by the incredible and hilarious Simon Neil, vocalist/guitarist of Biffy Clyro. Since their foundation in 1995, the Scottish hard rock band have built an incredible resume and an adoring following, drawing massive crowds at festivals around the world. Simon is often at the front of that charge, almost never wearing a shirt, rampaging his way across the stage. The trio's upcoming album, A Celebration of Endings, was intended to be released in May, but has since been delayed until August. That difficult choice is fitting for the record, which focuses on getting through some of life's most trying, dark moments and the lessons that come out on the other side. In the meantime, I spoke with Simon about how the pandemic will change the future of touring music, sharing drinks with Dave Grohl, getting upstaged by Martin Scorsese while opening for the Rolling Stones, and completely underwhelming Lars Ulrich of Metallica. Head here for more info on Biffy Clyro. Head here for more information on this week's featured non-profit, My Block, My Hood, My City. Simon Neil from Biffy Clyro literally wears his heart on his sleeve and anywhere else he can find a space. He is known for his impressive array of torso tattoos and his willingness to share his own well honed wisdom on many subjects. In short he is the perfect man to catch for a pint and chat. He is like the older more sensible (been there done that) brother of Lewis Capaldi. There's a genuine warmth to him and he displays that in spades with his chat to The Fergal D'Arcy Show. Social Media became a dark place for a time. Sometimes bringing out the worst in people. But it's becoming a place of love, people donating, trying to spread good vibes. It is like a rebirth in spirituality. What is happening is horrific but if we can take anything from the current situation it's the sense of togetherness. Ironically we are all completely isolated but I've never felt more part of community or something than I do now. I really hope we retain that for the future. The band returned this year with a brand new song called 'Instant History' and it's a title that is apt for a modern world where everything is changing so quickly. 'Instant History' Due to the Coronavirus their new album, 'A Celebration Of Endings' has been pushed back until August but their date at The 3 Arena in October is still going ahead. Simon Neil told Fergal D'Arcy about how much this horrible situation has brought the world together. This includes how it's brought musicians even closer to their fans. Simon himself is doling an acoustic evening every Friday on YouTube. Check out those magnificent gold pants! Oustanding.
