I'm Lesley Logan, Pilates instructor and fitness business coach. I've trained thousands of people around the world and the number one thing I see stopping people from achieving anything is self doubt. My friends, action brings clarity and it's the antidote to fear. Each week, my guests will bring Bold, Executable, Intrinsic and Targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and Be It Till You See It. It's a practice, not a perfect. Let's get started.Hey loves, how's it going? It's just me today. It's just me today. So hopefully that's exciting for you. We did solo episodes a little bit earlier in the summer, and we got some great feedback from you guys. So we'll be tossing these in. And every once well, especially when it applies to what kind of timely right now, and that is that this is the, that those last few months of the year and they can feel very, they can feel a little worrying, right? Like it starts to get really busy. I know for me, it's very busy. So at the time I'm recording this, we are getting ready for Agency Mini, by the time you share this, we probably have already finished it. But I'm also before that going to Nashville, coming back doing Mini and going to Chicago, coming back doing something else then going to Cambodia. Oh, I forgot there's new people at my house in between all of that for our business retreat. And then and then it's Thanksgiving, and all of a sudden it's Thanksgiving. And so this is a time of the year that can feel really overwhelming. There's a couple things I want to actually remind you of. You get to do this, like you get to do this. And I really, if you are struggling, if you're feeling overwhelmed, I really want you to reframe a little bit and just go, "I get to do this." Now if you don't want to do what you're doing, that is something to write down. So something I think is really cool about how we feel about things is that they are there, there are signs that you don't want to be doing the thing, or you don't be doing the thing with that person or that time. And you the more you pay attention to these things, the more you make notes, the more you can make conscious decisions. So for example, I actually love to travel, I love to go to Cambodia, there are so many things I love to do about it. So I am this busy season, not at no point am I going, oh my God, I have to do all this stuff, I get to do all this stuff. And I actually plan for all these things to happen when they're happening because this is kind of the time of the year that I really like to do all that. I like to pack it in, I like to make sure that we see all the faces of the people that we love. I really do like to do all of those things. Now, in the summertime, when I like want to be in chill vibes, I am not planning those things. I'm not doing them. In fact, when we did do them this summer, just like as a trial, my body was like, "Why are you doing this? It's summertime, it's summer vibes." So what is cool about journaling, or even just documenting or taking note somewhere about how you feel in your body, about different things as they can give you signs, about what to say yes to and no to in the future. And so there have been people who have been requesting a retreat for us to do in the summertime and we're not doing that. Now, there are a couple reasons I can say I don't do that. And they're very valid, that the weather in Cambodia is not exactly, exactly ideal for doing a retreat. Not only is it hot, but there's monsoons and we can't control them. And it's crazy rain, and I don't want people to fly all the way out there. And then we can't see the temples because the rain is insane. Right. So those are some reasons. And the other big reasons I don't want to. I don't want to I want to use my summers to reflect on the meaning of the year to plan for the fall of the year, to make sure we're all set up to rest, relax, to visit with friends as they come into town. So and those are all things I learned over the last couple of years of testing things. So it's okay that you didn't know about the things that you said yes to that you didn't maybe like the time that they were, the location that they were until you did them. That's okay. You don't have to be a psychic. Most of us are not. And in fact, some people who are aren't. So, so I think it's just really important to be kind to yourself, and acknowledge when things feel really good. Okay, what about that feels really good? What is it that people that you're with? Is the time that it was? Is it how it was planned out? What about that feels really good so that you can a) use those as green lights and green signals to say yes to in the future? What about it, didn't you like so you can use those red flags? And so every time I get asked to speak every time we plan a thing we could to look back at, like what didn't work before, what we liked about it, what people liked about it and then make decisions going on, which is why perfect is boring, which is why that waiting until something's perfect is the wrong thing to do. I wouldn't know 90% of this information until I had gone in there, done a retreat in August, done different things at different times of the year. That said yes to programs that were unorganized, disorganized, you know, that kind of thing. So I wouldn't know that, I wouldn't know what is actually important to me about organization and what isn't had I not experienced it and then felt it in my body. And so all of this is to say if you had a summer or for my southern hemisphere people had a winter where there was things that you loved and things that you didn't love, pay attention to what those things are and then use those things for moving forward. Okay.So that is kind of kind of how I kind of kind of it is exactly how I try to say yes or no to things and plan things on our calendar. And it's just really important to me. The other way is just really listening to you guys. So those of you who fill out the surveys at beitpod.com/tellme. Thank you, those are really great, when you interact with us in any of our other programs, Agency, OPC, we do a lot of surveys, we love surveys. They really help us figure out how we can be better at things, what things actually matter to you, you can be really easy ladies too. And I say ladies, I know there's a few good men listening, hello. But there's it can be really easy to think we need to add more, do more, give more. And truthfully, sometimes that can be overwhelming. Or they can be really overwhelming for some people. We'd ask them their server like, "Would you like more episodes?" And some people said, "Yes." And other people said, "It's enough." And I'm like, "Great. I'm not going to do dailies, if you don't want that." Now, if you all want that, then let me know. But we truly don't I don't want to overwhelm you without your request. And also your acknowledgement that that's what you want, right? So this is really great. Whether you're in business or not. And maybe you're like Lesely I'm not in business. You can survey with the people around you. You can you can ask questions, you can get feedback from people about yourself, you can even say, "Hey, you know, I'm actually trying to figure out what I want to do for the end of the year. Can you think of a time this summer where you notice that I was a little bit more frantic, frenetic, exhausted? And can you remember time this summer that I was excited, jubilated and joyful feeling at ease?" People around you spend time with you will know, they'll know. They'll remember. And that can be really helpful. Okay, so I say all this because in the last solo episode, I told you, I was being it till I see it. And right now, and I really have been working on that. And I noticed that there's an old story, I'll have to tell myself, which is that I'm too busy. Maybe you know that one, maybe you know that story. And sometimes I, in order to feel like I am in control of things that are uncontrollable, I will do more. So then they're not easy. And, and I'm getting stressed out and, and so that doesn't work. So I've been really working on some mantras and daily meditations, I've actually changed my morning routine a ton, and I'm still tweaking it as we speak. And for someone who loves routine that can be overwhelming, and also can be really exciting. It's really all how you reframe it. So one of the things that I am trying to do is a) work on my sleep. I've actually always had struggle with sleep situations, and stress. So I am someone who just because the childhood that I had I and it wasn't bad. Honestly, it wasn't bad. It just that I, as an oldest child of little kids and we're all born around the same time. I definitely took on a lot of stress around me and tried to fix a lot of things and do over the doer. I'm a doer. And I pride of myself on that actually I'm an, it's one of my strengths, I'm really good at. But a strength can be a weakness if you don't know when to use it and when not to use it. Right. So in these last couple of months, I've been really looking at my morning routine and seeing where parts of it can be switched into the afternoon because I do work from home. And what I could add to my morning that would allow me to set myself up to be in the most abundant receiving ease, ease full mode, strength base mode, just totally in tune like I really want the mornings to feel less like, Oh my God, I have all these things to do." And more like, "Okay, I get to do these things," kind of like how I started this episode. And that's something I share with you because something that I have always struggled with like I'm a very positive person like bright side up kind of person, but equally can get a little down about things especially when things are out of my control. So then I start to do more and then when does it happen is I'm not in receiving mode, I'm not actually noticing opportunities around me and I'm too busy to be the person I want to be for those I love. So that is not prioritization of self, that is not putting myself first, that is not taking messy action, that is trying to be perfect in some other way. And so the last couple of months I've really been doing that and I started off with adding in my red light therapy to that routine. I also stopped doing my morning Instagram talks, you guys it's not because I don't love doing them. I just was like I really want to take in the surroundings more, I really want to be at ease more. I don't actually want to have to work right now. Right. So that doesn't mean I won't do them anymore. It just means I need to do them later in my morning and I'm working on putting them back in. So as I be it till I see it, what I am doing is catching myself when I say I'm too busy and doing what I would think a non busy person who is confident and positive and abundant and supportive of their business and their team and their dreams would do? So that's the whole premise of the Be It Till You See It Podcast acting as if before you're ready, right? So if I look at, if I think what a woman who runs a massive company, who takes care of herself, what does she do? How is her morning routine? What is that setup? So I did a lot of research on things you can do to make your body sleep better. As I mentioned, I'm working on my sleep. So your sleep for the night starts in the morning before and we can thank Huberman for his podcasts on that. But and there's a bunch of other studies on that. But really, truly, like, I do already wake up pretty early. So I do get the morning light of the day. And so I was like, "Okay, well, that's helping my sleep out. So what else can help my sleep out?" So I've been working on doing those things. So I've been changing my morning routine up to rabbit symbol, what I imagine a woman who runs a company, who prioritize prioritize their self first but do the morning. And that required some changes in my morning because I was really pushing a lot of things into my morning routine, and feeling the sense of urgency that they had to get done, and they weren't of ease. And of course, that's what we're trying to be until we see is that easefulness on this and running this business. And so I have in the last few weeks shifted that morning routine to my workout. Some of them happen a little later. Sometimes they happen in the same time. So every day is actually now different, which is weird for me. But I'm finding a lot of fun in that and flow in that and a little bit of like rebelliousness that I don't always let myself have in that. So that's super cool. I will when we get to my favorite things list off a lot of the things that I'm doing in the morning that you can borrow, we've got affiliate links or links below that you can enjoy. So as I be it till I see it in that what it is challenging me on is watching my responses to things because no longer do the old responses, the quick responses apply, I actually need to take a step back. And so when I say, "Oh, I don't have time." I actually go right now. When does that need to be done and then I look and see when I can get it done. And it's kind of amazing. I used to also think I didn't have time to meditate every day. Wrong. I have since figured out that I can. So watching the stories I tell myself that are keeping me from being it till I see it is something that I am in constant practice with. And I wonder if I always will be. I don't know, jury's out, I'll keep you posted. So hopefully that is helpful for you just like seeing like, not perfect. We're still working on it. Every day is kind of a challenge based on like the old way of thinking and the stories I told myself that made me feel safe and made me feel secure, that made me you know, not go off and do some crazy things. And now those things are actually holding me back and the growth of what I'm trying to do. And like I am on a mission, more bodies doing Pilates, and I cannot do that if I don't think I have time. Because I need to be able to create time so I can tell you how to create time. Right. So okay, now, some of you always ask us, like, what are some books I'm reading right now. And I am going to let you know, since I talked to Coach Lee, I have been doing my E-Squared book, I'm not doing it as quickly as I did the first time, I'm kind of stopping at different chapters and waiting until I want to do the experiment before I go on to the next chapter. So I it's actually going really cool and it's actually a really good reminder. There are some things that she wrote in there that I want to just like paint on my walls. So E-Squared by Pam Grout, she's still on the list to get on the pod. So if you know her hook a sister up. Okay, um, then I was I had some girls out, you may remember Brad and I the time I had some girls come to visit that I kind of met through friends of friends. And we all like, "Let's do a friend's weekend." And I highly recommend you do that. I know that can sound really scary. And really, it can be even expensive sounding. The truth is you can you can make it whatever it needs to be. But shared experience is really do make a difference in how you feel and who you surround yourself with makes a difference. We have had multiple multiple guests come on, and we have another guest coming up who is going to tell you that it really does make a difference who you invite into your energy, who you invite into your circle and how much time you spend around them. And so it might require some boundaries. So on that girls weekend, they ment... mentioned, Florin Sho... Scholar Shine. Hold on, let's just pull up her book because I just finished it. It's actually really old. Okay, so I listened to it on Audible and I'm going to be super, oh Florence Scovel Shinn, there it is. So, my autocorrect, I got that weird. So I got the complete works on Audible. I don't even think it charged me a credit. And somebody reads it. The words that she uses, like Victrola. And I just imagine people walking around like the old old New York of like, the 1890s As I'm reading it, but the stuff still makes sense. And it does mention God a lot. So you can insert your own word for that there. And she does and occasional spots but I listened to it on a dog walk because I was like, I just need to be around as much positivity as I can. And the first book I will say is the best one of all of them. A great reminder of being very like actually knowing what you need more of, and, and asking for that. And then being aware of that we've talked about that with Dr. Philippe Douyon, where it's like your eyes and ears are seeing what your brain is looking for. So if you're very co... conscious of what it is that you're looking for, you will then look for evidence for that. And there was some really cool stories in that first book. So I really recommend it. The rest of them it was it was good. I think the first one is a good good place to stop. I have Burnout by Emily and Amelia Nagos... Nagoski, on my Audible that I'm going to next. It's actually part of the book club that we have for Agency. And I'm really excited about I heard them on Brené Brown, and I've had it on my list for a long time. It is a long book. So it's just been working my way to it. And then I just bought the source that we talked about in Stef Caldwell's episode, there's actually a couple books called The Source. So if you actually look back at Stef's episode, we'll put the link in the show notes. There's a specific the source that we want. But again, it just goes into this. There's science around manifestation. And when you can't just do all the things like we... it is we're telling ourselves a lie if we think that we can control all the parts are going to make anything happen. There are a lot of things, there's always a lot of things going on. In fact, like there's stuff in your personal life that's going on, great and not so great. There's stuff in your professional life that's going on, great and not so great. There's stuff in your health that's going on, great and not so great. Right? It is like a disservice and illusion if you think you can actually control all of those things you can't. So you can do what you can do. And then the next thing you have to do is like think like Hazel Ortega have some miracle goals around it be really specific, and then start looking for evidence for it to be true. So I'm like big on those books, I really think that they're gonna help me as I close up this year. As I plan for what we're gonna do in 2023, it has been an interesting 2022 and just doing a lot of things, testing things, changing things. And so I am trying to spend a lot of time on what do I really want? What are we doing all this for? How do we want to be when we're doing that? That's what I'm working on. So as with those books are going to you'll see there's a theme there. As always, you know, you can ask us any questions, you can DM the pod on Instagram and ask us any questions that you have around business, health, personal goals, and Brad and I will answer them on the recaps. And we want your question. So please do DM us. Okay, now, two of my favorite things. Okay, so I Brad calls me a total consumer. It's true. I am, I I really am and I have a lot of fun trying out new things. I do, I don't do a ton of research but I will oftentimes, like want something, look it up. I say yes to all the cookies, because I'm like, yes, track me down, ratio this to my face, let me know when you're having some Labor Day sale. You know, I'm like a, I'm a big fan of cookies. And you guys, you can all use cookies and ads to like, help you see the things you want to see. So you can hate them. But like that's how small businesses make money. And also big businesses too. But the other thing is, is like you can actually say yeah, actually, I would love it if you show me more of this, you just click on the ad and then that they'll, make sure you see that more often. So anyways, um, couple of these things gonna talk to you about are things that have been on my list for a while. So first thing, we talked about my red light therapy before, I really love the one that I have. I have it on, I actually bought like a tray for it that's on wheels, it's like a little stand on wheels, so that I can wheel it in front of my meditation chair, and then I can wheel it back into the closet. So I'm super excited about that. First I had to just like out on a thing, and I had to move it, move it back. And you know what, let's just be really honest, people, it's hard, we're not going to do it right. So I had to, I had to go buy a tray on wheels to make it a little easier. But it is one of the best purchases I've made to go along with that. And there is a ton of studies on red light therapy for people, especially in the morning. And so I'm a big fan of that. And I will say that I have sat in front of it even in the evening when I haven't been feeling as my positive self. And I feel better when I'm done being there. So it's great. I'll read a book on that. What like I'll read a book on my meditation chair in front of the lamp, I'll do breathwork in front of the lamp. I read some emails the other day in front of the lamp like I that's where going back to my morning routine changing on different days, the red light is either part of my meditation, or it's just part of my morning work day so that I can still get it in which is actually super, super cool. Then to go along with this, my chiropractor now light he had both this red light and something called a PEMF mat and I put the link it's my actual affiliate link below. So it should get you directly to the mat and also some fun little goodies that go along with it. And I am I've been wanting this mat for about six months. Every time we go I lay on I have like an hour, I really, it's hard to explain how amazing it makes me feel. But it really does make me feel great. And so I've been saving it, letting it, show up in my ads all the time. And we finally got one and I have used it everyday since. And I'm, this is where I go back to that story. I told myself, I'm too busy. Well, guess what, folks, I wasn't too busy to find an hour each day to lay on it. Since I've got it. So um, so it's kind of crazy. I think when you say you're too busy, you either don't want to do the thing, or you're avoiding doing the thing. And if you're already doing the thing, you're either avoiding it because there's something that scares you about it or you just don't want to do it. So so let that be testament because I bet you the things you really want to do you make time for. Right. So anyways, that link is below I'm obsessed with it. Last time I did a solo episode I told about my favorite water bottle. I'm still obsessed with it. In fact, I have since had a couple of different facials, I have had seen a doctor and my holistic doctor and like, at no point has anyone said I'm dehydrated. I looked hydrated, everything is normal. Everything is great. And I'm super just stoked about this water bottle like it's one of the my favorite things in life. So that link we actually have the affiliate link now and it's below and a bunch of my friends have already bought theirs. We we now I literally almost bought myself another one. And I decided I have to hold back until it's like actually the color I want. So we're patient, we're patiently waiting. Also, I finally got myself a Contrology Wunda Chair. So as you know, if you're in the Pilates world, listening to this. I'm a big fan of that Contrology equipment for my studies with Jay Grimes, like I just really love the way the old equipment was built. And even classical equipment today is not built the same way it was before. And so Contrology has done a wonderful job, really doing a lot of research going back and seeing those old piece of equipment using the old springs to make these new springs and it's incredible. It's very different. We actually got it because we're making the flashcard deck for the chairs now. So if you need an affiliate link to anything by Balanced Body, you can always hit us up, you can those exist on all of our YouTube tutorials. But also, the Contrology equipment is built by Balanced Body and I have an affiliate link for that. But get the Contrology chair is new, it came at the same time as a Ladder Barrel. And I'm sure I'll end up with that. But I really wanted the chair now because we're doing the decks now. And I got it in a really cool blue. I know you've seen my chair, it's hot pink, that color doesn't exist anymore. So I got a hot blue to go with it. I'm just really excited. It's like Barbie pink and Barbie blue like chairs. And I'm just, I think I'm gonna take pictures with them like going to on a date together.Okay, last couple of my favorite things. Naboso hand weights. So I met this woman at Momentum Fest. And I really liked the way that her hand weights felt in my hands like the texture she put in, there's a bunch of science behind it. And as you know, when you do Pilates, you only want one to two pound hand weights. Unless you're my bigger guys. And of course, I'll let you up to five, but nothing more than that, because it gets really distal, and I don't want you to be in your shoulders prefer three actually for you. But anyways, these hand weights are great. They're super fun, you can use them for anything, not just Pilates, and she's got a bunch of other good stuff for waking up your feet, and things like that. So check that out. And then finally, for my business folks who are thinking that they're just too busy, and like, "Where does she find the time?" Here I'm gonna tell you a little secret. In our household, and in our business, we Loom everything. Oh, actually, I'm gonna just be really honest, I don't log into the Loom account as much as everyone else says I'll use Zoom. But Loom Loom is the best. And so you can actually use my affiliate link below. And what it allows you to do is anything that you're already repeating in your life that you do, that you know, you want to someday hand off so life or work, you can Loom. So for example, let's say I don't want to schedule my newsletters anymore. So the next time I go to schedule one, I'm actually going to log into Loom so use my link below to get your account, you'll log in. And then you'll literally just talk to yourself, scheduling your next newsletter. And it will record your screen, record your clicks, record your voice, and you just label it, put in your Dropbox folder. And then when you do hire someone and go, "Here's how you do that. Go take a look at it. Let me know if you have any questions." And hopefully they're able to do it seems to train them. It's all done. So those are my favorite things. Some of them are well most of them are personal health related, then there is some Pilates related and then the business one related. I hope that these are helpful for you. Let me know if you liked this episode, if this if it's if it's good for you to hear like my thought process. I'm a total verbal processor as you can tell, and then what I'm reading and how that helps me be it till I see it and then what I'm using so I can support myself. Y'all, it takes a village okay, it really really does. I do understand that some of the things I'm talking about do come at a cost. And I understand that. So if right now, money is not something you have access to to support who you want to be in this world, can you please take a note out of Rachel Rodgers book, We Should All Be Millionaires. We've talked about this on the podcast before and use the word 'and' instead of 'but I don't have any money', and I don't have any money. And then I really do want you to then listen to that Flo... Florence Scovel Shinn book which I'm pretty sure it's free on on Audible, and hear how like, you can actually just be very specific on what you want. And then your eyes and ears are gonna see an opportunity. Maybe one of these things I've listed, but I say I love ends up at your neighbor's, like, garage sale, maybe ends up on a Facebook sale. Maybe someone's just like, "Hey, I'm moving. I can't take this with me." Right. Like you'd be surprised. What can come to you when you're in receiving mode and when you're aware of what you want. And I hope that these podcasts really help bring that to light and give you something to think about in your life is you can have everything you want. You can. You just have to a) know you want it and then also believe you deserve it, which you do. You don't have to have an excuse for that. You don't have to reason for that. Each week, my guests will bring Bold, Executable, Intrinsic and Targeted steps that you can use to put yourself first and Be It Till You See It. It's a practice, not a perfect. Let's get started.Welcome back to the Be It Till You See It interview recap where my co host in life, Brad and I are going to dig into the compounding convo I have with Stef Caldwell in our last episode. If you haven't yet listened to that interview, feel free to pause us now. Go back and listen to that one. And then come back and join us.Brad Crowell  Yeah, (Lesley: So) it was a great convo.Lesley Logan  It's so fun. I really, I have I've really, I'm so glad we got her on the pod. I heard her on another pod. And I was like, "I had to get her on." And you know, it's so fun is like I literally like DM her while I was listening. And I was like, "Do you want to be on my pod?" And she said, "Yes." So...yea.Brad Crowell  Yeah. I listened to the, to that episode two times to prep for this one, because there was just a lot there. And I feel like there was a lot of overlap with my experience in and like, what, like how she got to where she was, she had a very distinct break from me and that she felt like she had hit a gender glass ceiling. But the startup aspect, doing all the different roles, you know, living in that life that made me think of me but (Lesley: Yeah) my background.Lesley Logan  Yeah, I think there's a lot of similarities but what I love about what she did, and we'll talk more about it, I'm sure in a second but like, she saw a problem. And that's what she used to solve to like take her down a journey. And I think a lot of times we see problems and we see them as holding us back. (Brad: Yeah.) As opposed to like the obstacles the way as Ryan Holiday would say, and I don't even know how I rhymed three words in a row but I'm so proud of myself. Okay, before we get into Stef Caldwell, couple things from if you're listening this in real time. Hey, how are ya? (Brad: Hello.) It is 10 days until 7th Agency Mini start. (Brad: Yeah.) You have seven day coaching program. And, Brad and I have already like meal prep, dog prep. (Brad: I know.) We are ready because we are going to have more people in this one than we've ever had. (Brad: Yeah.) And we can do that because we have more coaches but ...Brad Crowell  And we actually have help this time. It's not just the two of us.Lesley Logan  Yeah, which is actually benefits all of them in different ways because each person has an arsenal that is like what they are so good at and that's the thing about Agency is that it's not about like there's just one way and this is the pamphlet and you fill out this questionnaire and all the fill in the blanks and boom you have ad copy, sales copy, (Brad: Yeah, yeah.) but no we don't do any of that, (Brad: We doesn't do that.) we doesn't do that. So each person brings a different skill sets. I'm so excited. If you have not yet signed up for that and you are in the fitness business world trainers, yoga teachers, Pilates instructors, any, massage therapists, doulas, profitablepilates.com/mini will take you to the page to sign up and get into the group.Brad Crowell  Yeah, profitablepilates.com/mini. And if you are listening to this after we've already gotten started, just go there and get yourself on the waitlist for next round.Lesley Logan  And then which will not be this year, but it'll be sometime next year. (Brad: Yeah.) And then like, like not even ... (Brad: Yeah, just under a month.) Just under a month. I'm like, "Where is the calendar?" We are going to have people in our house for our biz retreat, which is (Brad: Yeah.) so exciting. So if you are ...Brad Crowell  Our actual house in Vegas. (Lesley: Yeah.) It's a party.Lesley Logan  Yeah. And it is a party. It's going to be a lot of fun. It's a very small group and you get a ton of hands on support in your business. So if you're someone who's like, "Online doesn't work for me. I need to be there in the room." Well, this is the room and we're inviting you in and if you're like, "I'll do the next one." There isn't one. (Brad: Yeah. There literally is not one.) Not on the schedule and unfortunately just because there are only 365 days in a year and I do like to take off some of them. We just don't have enough time.Brad Crowell  Slash I'd rather be in Cambodia.Lesley Logan  I know. We're so excited. I mean we love our house but we're, speaking of Cambodia.Brad Crowell  Oh yeah, well, if you if you want to join us there's still room on this year's business retreat starts October five, just go to profitablepilates.com/retreat. And you can get all the deets there.Lesley Logan  If your local drive on in and (Brad: Yeah.) if you're not local, we have a discount link for an incredible hotel that is a mile from our house so you can just ride a bike.Brad Crowell  Yeah. (Lesley: Yeah.) But yeah, speaking of Cambodia, we'll be going there.Lesley Logan  We have a few spots left and I know you're like, "It's six six weeks away. That's international trip." Hello, you only need a few weeks to get ... (Brad: I think seven. Seven weeks away.) Seven weeks. Well, first of all that's fine, buy a plane ... they're the same and buy a plane ticket now and then they visa is actually not complicated to get because you can't even apply till you're 30 days out of your trip anyways. So there you go.Brad Crowell  Yeah, you know, yeah, exactly your your visa. Usually, you don't want to apply for the visa until you know about a month out. I think it's available valid for 90 days, but anyway, it's easy to do, they turn it around pretty quickly, literally three days is the typical return time (Lesley: Yeah.) on the visas. So (Lesley: Yeah.) no big deal.Lesley Logan  Go to lesleylogan.co/retreatsBrad Crowell  Retreat.Lesley Logan  Retreat. Just one, one word.Brad Crowell  Yeah, singular. (Lesley: Just singular.) lesleylogan.co/retreatLesley Logan  Just retreat. Cool. Okay, so before we go back to Stef Caldwell and all for awesomeness. Do we have an audience question to respond to?Brad Crowell  Yeah, we totally do. And I laughed when I when we got this question, because ...Lesley Logan  We've been getting this question from a lot of people. So ...Brad Crowell  Yeah. It was more like, "Hello. Are you alive? Is everything okay?" You may have heard that there's been rain in Las Vegas ...Lesley Logan  By the way, it does rain in Las Vegas.Brad Crowell  Yeah. Pretty intense. Oh, it's weird when it snows because it has snowed. But that's what it's like, "What?" But every year there's a monsoon season here, which I didn't know existed until we moved here. And, and then I was like, "Why is there, why is it so darn windy? Why is there 45 50 mile an hour winds right now?" And then ... (Lesley: Oh, it's rainy. It's five days.) And then kablooey. The skies opened up and the rain was literally going sideways. That was the first summer we're here. We're like, "Where did we just move to?" This past monsoon season, I think we might still be at the tail end of it at this point but I'm not sure. Anyway, it was it's been intense. It's been like really ...Lesley Logan  Well, it's been the rain that we've needed. But we haven't had a monsoon season like this for a couple of years. So I think a) people forgot and (Brad: Yeah.) b) I think that, that the media has want something new to talk about. So ...Brad Crowell  Well, it's also setting records. I mean, in August, we had a typical August we get like point three inches of rain for the whole month. And in you know, in the middle of August, there was one night that rain point six inches in three hours. So literally double in three hours. What we normally we get for the entire month.Lesley Logan  Yeah. And so ... so to answer your question first, we are fine ...Brad Crowell  Yeah, we're totally okay. We sit up a little bit, we're just slightly elevated by, I don't know, 100 feet, or 200 feet from the strip. So all those videos that you saw online of like rain coming out of the TVs inside of the casinos and like cars floating away and stuff. I mean, it was it's been bananas. We're a little bit elevated from that. So the water runs downhill. It definitely, you know, still pounds on the house. But fortunately, (Lesley: Yeah.) it's been okay.Lesley Logan  And so I definitely think that whoever built those casinos, maybe you need to take a look at how things were built in the mid 50s. But the other thing is, is like it is it is natural for a monsoon to happen. And the storms do carry a lot of rain. (Brad: Yeah.) And the city actually has been built for this, there's actually 600 miles of sewage systems going on ...Brad Crowell  Runoff just like runoff piping under 600 miles of pipes underneath the city. It doesn't necessarily all flow back to Lake Mead, although we wish that it did. But it does at least try to run off the water.Lesley Logan  And it's kind of interesting when I first moved here, someone said, if it rains and you're driving, pull over, just pull over and just wait a few minutes because the city, the streets are actually built so that the water goes into the sewage systems and gets out of the way. And so you don't want to just be like getting ready to like flood (Brad: Yeah.) and float off with ... But at any rate, like it isn't something that's like shocking for the area. It just seems shocking, because it's a little dramatic that people were playing slot machines while rain was pouring down on them.Brad Crowell  I saw dude with an inner tube going down the strip. I was like, "Okay."Lesley Logan  Yeah, yeah. So and then, Lake Mead did rise to feet and the fuselage that was half showing that was very exciting, because they knew it was down there some World War II thing. They knew it was down there, but they couldn't get to it. Well, it was halfway showing and it's now not showing as much. And (Brad: Yeah.) so and they did find five bodies so far. So only one do they think was a murderer. I know what the mafia here we did... I think those bodies are in the desert. But that's fine. That's my own, that's my own thing from the Uber drivers who I've had, who missed the mafia running the place because they're like, there was no crime, people would just get taken out to the desert and shot, I was like, oh, so they're not in like me. So anyways, thank you for the worries. And to my mother in law who sent me, stay safe, hugs. (Brad: Yeah.) Thank you.Brad Crowell  We're kind of out of the mess a little bit. So, (Lesley: Yeah, yeah, we do ...) didn't hit us quite as severely as what she saw.Lesley Logan  And we also do know how to count the thunder and the lightning away from each other so we could go take the dogs for a walk if it wasn't totally a storm. (Brad: Yeah, yeah.) Okay, finally.Brad Crowell  Yeah, let's talk about Stef Caldwell. (Lesley: Yeah, yeah.) So Stef is a Personal Development Author, Angel Investor and Vice President of Sales for Silicon Valley FinTech company. Okay. If you're not familiar with FinTech, it means financial tech. Right. So she is the VP of Sales for a Finance Tech company. Passionate about closing the gender gap in half the time, and will briefly talk about what half the time means. She is an advocate for women's financial literacy and their participation in emerging industries. So women can realize gender equality, and and she's really focused on leading more inclusion and profitability for all people over time.Lesley Logan  Yeah. And I think that's like, you know, what's really interesting is when she did talk about the financial gap and how many years it would take, like ...Brad Crowell  208 years. (Lesley: Yeah. And like just ...) Well, what is that, what does that specifically mean? If if the increase in wages and increase in wealth proceeds at the current rate than it is today, it will not be equal, between men and women for 208 more years.Lesley Logan  Yeah. And then also, just so we all are clear, like, whatever you picture, when we say, women, when you think of people of color, it just get like, the gap gets bigger. So what, what is really great is if we can take all of women, and we can actually help bridge that gap, it will actually have a wonderful effect on people of all colors, and all backgrounds. And I think that's really important because what we do know about women and spending money is when women make money, they give it back to the community. And no offense to the men listening to this podcast, thank you so much. But typically, they keep it for themselves. Or they like put in stocks and things like that. But like giving back to the community actually makes the community better. It makes people in the community have more success. And it's this really incredible thing. And so I'm really I just that's one of the reasons I had her on because I, I I know that like engineer, I was taught how to balance a checkbook. And like that was the extent of my investment, financial literacy. I've learned everything from podcasts and books.Brad Crowell  Yeah, yeah. She, she definitely like had a whole lot of things to say. What was one thing that... What are two things actually, because there's so much I put a couple of things for each of us today.Lesley Logan  Well, you know, of course, I loved were 'Fuck Being Humble' that book that she talked about, I was like, "What, how do we talk about this? How did I miss this? How do I not know this?" So like, I, I think that a lot, including myself, we won't do things, women especially won't do things because like, "Oh, well that could take away from this person." Like I will and yes, there are reasons to do that. But like, I remember, you proposed to me, and I was like, "Oh my gosh, wait, what about the other girl who has proposed to yesterday on this trip? Maybe we shouldn't do this right now." Like, I, like, you know what I mean? And like, so I just really, I really loved her bringing up this book. And she says, imagine you're the bossest version of yourself. And then remember that when you're going going to be the most humble. And I think that there is definitely some ways of being in between that and writing that line. But like, if you don't know what that boss is version of yourself is it's really hard to like ...Brad Crowell  It's a weird word (Lesley: Yeah.) boss is bossest. (Lesley: The most boss.) You're the most boss. Like, how could you be boss? Right. And so basically, the idea was, she said, listen, you know, by nature, or by nurture, actually, we have been told, "Be humble. Be humble. Be humble." You know, yada, yada, yada. And she said, what if we said, what if we were not humble just for a moment? What if we were like, what if what if it only the world only revolved around us? What if we only had our things going, you know, and everything was all about me? Which seems so weird and awkward and like a little, you know, like, like, whoa, that's ... Right, deep breath. What if just what if, because she said," That person is in there. It's just that we smother that with this, this teaching that we should be humble." And I think that there's for sure there's a balance of what would be good, but what you know, between the two, but I think most often we end up putting ourselves last, or we don't fight for ourselves because, oh, well, we're supposed to be humble and we're not supposed to, you know, like, like, if you feel arrogant or you feel like you're doing something wrong if you are advocating for yourself or fighting for yourself, and she said, "Don't do that when you're when you're talking about finances." I think a great example of this would be negotiating a salary.Lesley Logan  Well, and I think first like this to go back. If you're listening to this podcast, there's a big chance that you are not a narcissist egotistical maniac, and there's a huge chance that you are an awesome human being who cares about others and the reason you're listening to this is because you have some sort of idea of who you should be in this world. And you want to do that because it's going to help others. So I'm just going to say that so even the most boss version of yourself the bossest version of yourself. In this world were, it's all about you in no way. Are you like frickin like, "fu everyone, it's all about me." For sure you're like, "How can I like bring these people together? And how can I bring (Brad: Yeah.) these people together?" So just like put that in there and then yes, when it comes to like a negotiate of salary. So many people are like, first of all, they like play small, they're like, "Do you think I could have? Like, is there a time that I could have like a raise?" Like, there's no confidence in there. You're, you're actually the wrong set of humble. You know, so it's like, actually, what like, think about it? Why do you deserve that raise? What have you done? How do you do that? And then you state your case for like, this is what I've done for the company. Here's what I want to do, I'm going to need more for to these things. What are your thoughts on this, and they could still say no, and that doesn't mean that you're not worth it, it could just be like what's going on with them, but at least they know, "Oh, this is what she's bringing to the table, or they're bringing to the table." And wow, they know this, there's something really like attractive about someone who's like, "This is how much I'm worth." I want to go (Brad: Yes.) to something really quick, she talked about this goes along with it, like we are able to receive, what we're able to receive is based on what we're available for it's a mindset, if you if your mindset is, in this humble state, I'm not going to ask for more, just a little bit, I don't want to ask for even more than what I need, because I won't take from anybody else, you're not going to be available. Like you're not even gonna see opportunities, networking opportunities, some of you want to teach workshops, or like, go out and have this opportunity this happened to you. But if you are playing so small with your financial literacy and those words around you, the universe is literally there to go, here's what you want. And you're like, I'm actually I need it to be this big. If you're on YouTube, I'm making it this big. Um, and then it's like, okay, well, that's all you're going to see and be available for. So many of you are actually keeping, and I can put myself in this keeping ourselves from having the opportunity to have more, just some based on what we're able to see. And then ...Brad Crowell  Well, I think I think, you know, she stuck this in here. So I love that we're digging it out. You know, if you, you know, she's talking about the way we value ourselves and how we think about, you know, like, the amount of money we want to make. She was talking about incomes, you know, am I you know, am I, you know, am I a $10,000 earner, $100,000 earner, $10 million earner, like, how does that work? And she was talking about how that changes how you show up, you know, to what it is that you're doing, when you have that those perspectives. But she said, you know, how much of how much you make, and how much you're able to receive is based on what you're available for, if you are saying, "I'm only, you know, I only think I'm worth $50,000," and someone offers you a $100,000 job. You might be afraid of that. (Lesley: Oh, yeah.) And you probably go, "Oh, wow." You know, instead of like, "That's damn right. I'm worth $100,000." Right? So it's a mindset thing, the way we see ourselves, you know, and, and so the other side of it is this, if you see yourself as someone who's worth making $100,000, but you're only making $50,000 then there's a there's a gap there that you will figure out a way to fill.Lesley Logan  Yeah, (Brad: You know) and also you'll be open to it. You know, like if you I remember, like think believing that money is all around me and money is find me. Like remember having as a mantra, money just finds me. And sure enough, one day I was walking up the stairs at that Equinox was Hollywood. And it's these like tight stairs, these like, I don't even know how they I say this all the time. I don't know how to pass. (Brad: Narrow, narrow stairs.) They're very narrow, especially because people have gym bags, there was $100 in cash on the steps. I picked it up. I put it in my office desk in case anyone like because my my studio is right at the top of the stairs. So I thought well, for sure someone will just like probably come and look for an employee. And, and I waited and I, no one came up to me. And then I asked the front desk security thing. I said, "Hey, is anyone mentioned they're missing any money?" And they said, "No." And I said, "Okay." Two weeks later, no one has like this is for me, this was meant for me to have. So guess what? No one ever asked for it. It was put there because money is always flowing to me. And I ... (Brad: Yeah.) Do you know what? I needed that $100 that week because it was perfect. So I think like we have two homework assignment for you all. So like, really think about how much you are as an earner. Like what does that look like? If it's $50,000 there's no, I'm not discounting that. For some people that is all they want. And that is there's nothing wrong with that. But if you do want $100,000 there's also nothing wrong with money in that. (Brad: That's true.) It's also not, there's nothing wrong with wanting eight figures. It is all about going back to your why you want it and then believing that you're worth it and then putting the energy out there because you will see, you'll be available for the opportunities that come with that that people are trying to put in front of you. (Brad: Yeah.) ... just well.Brad Crowell  Yeah. I love that. There was one of the things that she mentioned. She said, "Where you put your effort, it does expand."Lesley Logan  Well, that's the freakin truth.Brad Crowell  Yeah. So I wanted you, I wanted you to talk about that.Lesley Logan  Okay. So this, this is something I see a lot with whether people are doing Pilates with us, or they're in business with us, they want more of those things. But their effort, if I ask them, where they're spending their time is on something else entirely. And then they're kind of resenting both, because they're not getting the expansion of the area they want ... (Brad: Give us an example.) For example, I'll just take for my families, you want to have more time doing Pilates, or more time to work on your business, either of those is fine. But your family is also a priority to you, and you're spending more time with them. The problem is, while you're spending time with them, you're resentful of all the time you're with them, because you want to be working on this other thing or doing this other thing. Well, because you're spending more time with them, your time with them, and their relations with them. It expands, it grows. There's nothing wrong with that.Brad Crowell  So where are you put your effort, your time, it expands.Lesley Logan  Yeah, and so if you're wanting your Pilates practice or your business to expand, you do have to put effort there. Effort doesn't have to be 40 hours a week.Brad Crowell  It doesn't have to be insane amounts of time.Lesley Logan  No, it just has to be you have to prioritize that effort. It can't be a like, what is like, you know, how you can like vacuum a room and put nice lines in it. And like it's beautiful. Or you could just like quickly, like, take that little one of those handheld things. And like, just get the couch, like. So I feel like ... (Brad: I'm very excited to see where we are going here.) I feel like effort is just intentional around the the job that you're wanting done. Being intentional. If you want to have a very clean room, you're intentional about cleaning the room.Brad Crowell  So you're saying there's two ways to clean a room?Lesley Logan  I think there's probably more but in this scenario, there are two you can be intentional put line ...Brad Crowell  But at the end, you still have a clean room.Lesley Logan  Yeah. (Brad: Okay.) Yeah. It's just that like, well, you don't. If you just vacuum the couch, you don't have a clean room. You should've a clean couch. But the effort I'm just saying ...Brad Crowell  I think that the... Finish your thought.Lesley Logan  Well, if you're not putting effort into something, you cannot be upset. It didn't go where you wanted it to go. (Brad: Yeah.) However, you should not be resentful of the things you put effort into instead. You should be asking yourself, where like, "Where am I think I'm efforting? But I'm not really." And like, "Where can I take some energy from something else? And put it into this for a while to see it expand?"Brad Crowell  Yeah, yeah, I was gonna say where you put your effort, it does expand is like, if you spend 10 hours a week working on a project, for years, you know, you are going to move that project forward. So it seems very logical to me, where you put your effort and it expands. Right. But I think that your what you're talking about is, is exactly right. We think we're putting an effort on the thing, you know, maybe it's your business. You know, you're teaching clients and whatnot, you think you're putting effort into growing the business, but you're actually putting effort into running the business and they're different things, right? So that can be confusing. I'm working and I'm working and I'm working and working. Well, you're maintaining it, right? There's a difference between working the business and, and maintenance versus growth, right. So and that can build that resentment, where you feel like, "Well, shit, I'm just spinning my wheels." Well, maybe you're not actually spending, putting the effort into growing the business. And another thing that I know, a lot of moms out there are spending, like you said, they're busting their butt all day. And, and you know, at a job and they come home, and they work with their their family. And they're not spending the time doing the thing that they want to be doing, whether that's your Pilates practice, or building your side hustle or whatever. And I know it's hard to juggle those things. But this is just the nature of life where you put your effort that thing expands. So it's something to be aware of.Lesley Logan  And then just because you made me think of this, and we talked about this the compounding conversation like if you actually like put in serious effort towards something you want to grow, it does at some point and up in the ball in a different court, or things just kind of happen. Like if you actually put effort. Let's say you are wanting a ton of people to buy something of yours, then you're going to have to spend some effort finding a ton of people to know like and trust you just going to have to but here's the cool thing. At some point, that effort is compounding and it's the interest is working without you actually doing it. For example, (Brad: Right.) you might have to if we're talking about social media might have to pass post every single day, for a while to get followers and to get people to listen to you and to trust what you have to say. But then eventually, your posts can have longevity. Like my friend Danielle Pascente, when we talked about her, she was on the podcast, when I met her she was posting every single day. But then just two years later, she's posting three times a week. Why? Because there was compounding interest to her posts. And so she had got to do fewer posts that had the same impact (Brad: Right) as multiple posts. So not only does it expand, there is a compoundingness to it. And if you're wanting something to grow, and you're not spending time growing it, please don't get mad at yourself or resent the pe... people place or thing that is keeping you from doing it. Just take a stock of like, how much can I... how much time can I spend effort in on this thing? And then really be intentional. If it's only 10 minutes, then do you know what you can do in 10 minutes if you're uninterrupted and your just focused on a thing. A lot more than you think. So anyways, I love that too. Okay. (Brad: Yeah.) We talked about a lot about what I love. But why don't we go into what you love?Brad Crowell  Alright. I'm gonna, I'm gonna keep it brief because we're, we need to move on here. But basically, she said a couple of things that I really resonated with. One thing that I I've never heard anybody else say this. And again, this is another thing that I thought, wow, we have a lot of similarities. She said, "Air is a resource, just like money is a resource." My whole life I have said I want I want money to be like air, meaning there's air so much air, I don't have to think about the air. It's just there. That's how I want money in my life. I want ...Lesley Logan  We're good on the rhyming in this episode.Brad Crowell  I want so much of it that I don't have to think about it. Right. So air is a resource just like money. And I thought that's, that's interesting. Because let's break that what do you what do you mean by a resource? Right? Like, it's not something that you hoard, you want to, you need to use it. Right? So that's there's, there's that conversation that could be had. Sorry, I meant money is a resource. (Lesley: Yeah.) You don't want to hoard it, you want to use it. You know, and the well, actually, I'm just gonna move right on. I'm gonna leave you with those thoughts ...Lesley Logan  No. I just want to say like, just so we all know what resources are. That's like food, water, place to live. Money is like those things, and they're in existence, and you are allowed to have them and you don't have to even ask for, like, you don't go around asking people for fucking air. You don't actually like you don't go, "Gosh, I'm so greedy. I ate today." No, you have to eat, you have to sleep, you have to breathe. And money is equal to all of those things. And you don't have to apologize for how much of it you want. And you're also like you said you're not suppose to hoard it, you're supposed to use it, (Brad: Yeah.) utilize it because it's a resource. If I breathe the air, I'm alive. And then I can go off and do things to impact others.Brad Crowell  Yeah. Same with money. She also said, and this is for business owners out there when when you were mentioning earlier resentment. What is hell yeah, money revenue in your business? And she was arguing about like, raising your rates, and you know, bringing in income so that you're not, a) so that you're profitable, but b) so that you're not building that resentment. What is the hell yeah revenue in your business? How can you do more of that? Right. Like, how can you do more of that? Is it an option for you to do more of that? Because you know what, when you're making hell yeah money, guess what, you're excited to work with your clients, you're excited to run your business, you are making the money that you believe you should be making. Right. What so you need to identify what is that hell yeah revenue in your business?Lesley Logan  And just because some people might be like, "I don't have any hell yeah revenue in their business." Then I want you to actually think about what would be hell yeah, money.Brad Crowell  I mean, we're not necessarily talking about ...Lesley Logan  I'm not talking about number of dollars ... You're decided to work. You're excited to make that money.Brad Crowell  Yeah, I was actually going to say we built a tool, called the Magic Number Calculator to help you figure out where the money is like that you if you want to be making X amount of dollars, and then you need to know how much to be charging your people, your clients and that will change your perspective, because every session could be hell yeah money for you.Lesley Logan  Well, and also if you and just to your point, like if you're not if you don't feel like you have hell yeah money, there's a good sign you're not charging enough for the efforts you're doing or that you are keeping around a service product thing that actually (Brad: It sounds like I'm sure.) you don't want to do anymore (Brad: Right.) and you are in fear of moving forward. But trust me, you're not going to expand anywhere else because you're spending all this time efforting in the 'hell yeah money'. I don't know the opposite of not like 'fuck no money'. So, so I think like, if you have hell yeah money, I want you to go and look and see how you can have more of that in your business and less the fuck no. And if you're like, "Everything's a fuck no guys." Then I want you to dream up what hell yeah would look like (Brad: Sure.) or would make you want to go hell yeah, I'm showing up for that. And then I want you to take the first next step to creating that. And that could be asking people, if I created this thing, would you do it? You know, it doesn't have to actually be like creating the thing. Please make sure you survey people before you do it. But your hell yeah money is out there. And if you're not making it currently, then it's time to dream up with that would be.Brad Crowell  Yeah. All right. Finally, let's talk about those BE IT action items. What bold, executable, intrinsic or targeted action items can we take away from your combo with Stef Caldwell? I am going to jump in and she gave us four. And they were all things that she lives her life by their quotes from other people. And we're just going to go through all four of those really quickly right now. There is power in no. So that is, I can't remember she she she gave us all the names of who's she got these quotes from but I didn't write them down. So there's but but there's power in in the word no. And I think that that kind of relates back to the hell yeah, money. You know, it's, it's okay for you to say no. When you say no, it gives you space in your life, in your schedule in your thoughts, in your day to focus on the things that do make that money that are yeses, or hell yeses. So there's power in the word no. And then another thing that she mentioned is our, ask yourself this every single day, "Are you willing? Are you willing? Are you willing to be that person that takes action, the person that that has is able to have those hard conversations, both with yourself and with others? Are you willing to be the person that can step into the life that you most desire? Are you willing?"Lesley Logan  That's a great question. You can journal on that. And there might be days where you're not willing so just honor that. Just like, give yourself permission, you know and not everyday has to be like a day that you go, go hard to go home. And you know, first of all, no, is also a complete sentence. Just so you know, that was a k n o w. But no, you know, is a complete sentence for your information. My biggest takeaway is put a statute of limitations on all childhood traumas. And look, I just wanna make sure we all understand I am not discounting that there are childhood traumas. And some people's traumas are like unfathomable. That being said, a lot I've seen in my own family. Sometimes we keep those childhood traumas around as an excuse for keeping ourselves small, and where we are and not moving forward. And so ...Brad Crowell  Yeah, this ties directly into her fourth thing, which is you can have excuses, you can have success. But you cannot have both. Right. And I think that it's a hard, it's a hard, it's very difficult to be introspective, meaning to analyze yourself and to say, this trauma that I experienced, while still real, is it, is it continuing to negatively affect me today? Right, and that, how do you see that? You know, how do you identify that? But, and I don't necessarily know the answer, I think journaling can really help, seeing therapists can help with that having a partner who is you are willing to let challenge you, can help with that. Or a sibling or a parent or friend, even who you are, you let them challenge you without blowing up the relationship. You know, writing music, writing poems, all that stuff can be really a release and help you take a second look at yourself. I know ...Lesley Logan  Well, I think I'd just say, this is like for my own, just to say I grew up without money. Right. We've all, if you listen to podcasts long enough, you know that this has happened, you know, that I grew up with like, I answering the phone because we had bill collectors calling, like, didn't know where money is coming from often. I could keep that around as my reason for not being good with money. And not being able to make money because no one ever makes money in my family and, and people and my handlers but I could just make a bunch of excuses (Brad: Sure.) based on the trauma of that kind of the childhood that I had around money, or I can go those things happened in my life. But they don't mean that I can't figure out how money works and then I I can't have a different life than the people before me and that I can't have all the money in the world that I want to have. So I can either let it hold me back and help me to stay, just stay it like, and this is my box and I this is what I do. And I only do this because that's all I'm that's all I was taught. That's all I know, that's experience I had, or I can use that as a framework of understanding learning, and then a jumping off point to take me to where I want to go. And and I think that that's like, actually is like the best thing that anybody can do. Like what if you actually looked at it? Look at Michael Unbroken, you know, like, he looked at him and like we can all say that he had some childhood trauma. (Brad: Yeah.) Like a lot, like more than I think any of us can picture. And where is he at today? Changing the world like ending childhood trauma in his lifetime. So I just think that like, yes, many of you, many of us have had these things. And you get to choose how you want them to affect your life.Brad Crowell  Yeah. Yeah. I love it.Lesley Logan  Just really quick reminder that Stef Caldwell has a new podcast out about Web3. So this episode, I'm really, truly grateful for our guest to be on because I have been wanting to talk more about money, money mindset building wealth. there's so much more I can go into this topic. So if you really love this topic, I do want to hear from you. You can go to the beitpod.com/tellme and fill out the survey and let us know or you can just DM me. But if you really are loving this topic, and if money is keeping you from being it till you see it, then we need to talk about it more. That's what this podcast is for. It's just bringing on experts that can help you be it till you see it. And so besides inspiring stories, I think it's just really important for you to hear information that helps you get out of your own way. And the reality is, is I talk a lot about this a lot with my Agency members, my coaching members, is that money is energy. And as a teacher, you are giving so much energy to your clients. You are pouring into them making sure that they get all the right exercises for their body. And then oftentimes under valuing yourself and under earning. And so therefore, people are paying you what you said, but you're not actually getting the energy back here because it doesn't it's not equal. They can't teach you by the way. I mean, so like they have to pay you for the energy so that you can keep doing what you're doing. And if you are under charging, then of course you're going to reach burnout, and of course exhaustion or just the resentfulness of like, people just not valuing you, but you're not giving them the opportunity to do that. So I'm really hope as you listen through this interview, as Stef and I have what I hope is a conversation that helps you understand not only wealth, why you need it, and how like things you could be doing right now to help you with those thoughts with that, with that mindset, and with the actual action steps to building it. I really hope you get all those. So bring out your notepad, this is gonna be one you want to save. I know I I actually like wrote notes, I you know, I can't read my writing. So I'm gonna have to re listen to see what notes I wrote down. But there's so many great books, you're gonna just like build your book list with this. And you're also gonna get some great quotes that you can remind yourself of just how fucking worthy you are. You are the only person who can do what you do the way that you do it, you're it. And if we do not make sure that you are getting paid the money you need to get paid, then how do we keep you showing up the next day? Like let's just be real, I don't care how amazing of a human you are. If you're not getting the energy repayment back, it's going to be really hard on those tough days to show up and do the thing that you know you're on this planet to do. And when you make money. Right. One of the coaches that I work with Chris Harder. He says "When good people make good money, they do great things." ... Like please remember that because if you are feeling guilty around the money that you're making, we have to shift that because you making good money and then putting it towards the things that matter the most to you. I know for a fact you're going to benefit the people around you. I know not a single person listening to this podcast is a selfish asshole who's just going to hoard it all for themselves. No, you wouldn't listen to this, you would not there's no way you listen to this because I'm all about abundance and that is not being abundant, like hoarding. Right. So, I really hope that this conversation, enlightens you, inspires you, helps you take action. And may we all be part of collapsing this massive gap in women having equal wealth to men. So, Stef Caldwell is our guest this week, take a listen and then please subscribe to her podcast because she's got a really awesome podcast that I'll let her tell you all about in this episode.Welcome to the Be It Till You See It podcast where we talk about taking messy action, knowing that perfect is boring. Let's get started.Okay, Be It listeners. So you know how I say, "Perfect is boring." It really, really is and it's also hilarious and embarrassing sometimes when you do it right in front of someone you're so excited to talk about. And I share all this because Stef Caldwell's here, and we got to talking and we got so excited. And then I looked at him as like, "You know, something doesn't feel right. Something's wrong. Oh, I didn't hit record." And I share that with you before I introduce Stef Caldwell. Well, because you're gonna make mistakes, you're gonna make mistakes. And you're gonna be like, "Oh, my God red in the face." And you know what I say just make them more often and it's really les... that's uncomfortable. So Stef Caldwell, is someone I had to have on the show and she's already heard. And now you're hearing. I was listening to her on the Laurie Harders podcast, I was getting in the shower. And I made the podcast stay on just on full blast. And I was agreeing with everything, loving everything, taking notes. And then I DM her. I was like, "You have to be on my show." I have to have you on here. And so Stef Caldwell, you are you are amazing at helping build women, helping women build wealth. And I actually want you to share everyone who you are and why you rock it that.Stef Caldwell  Well, seriously, I'm so excited to be here. And for the listener, I mean like failure, failure of messing up, starting over. That is the point like if you think the point of any of this is anything different than that than the point that you think it is, is wrong. (Lesley: Yeah) So hello, everybody, I'm Stef Caldwell, Personal Development Author, Angel Investor, Tech Startup Operator and I like to say fun-haver because again, like you only live once. What is the point of any of this if it's not a total freakin blast along the way.Lesley Logan  I, you know, you're exactly right. And thank you for also saying that because it's like, I think I know that everyone listening to this and maybe even I don't know about you. But for me, I grew up everything had to be perfect before I could even get started like it just had to be like this. And that is the opposite of having fun. You cannot (Stef: Absolutely.) you cannot perfect having the fun time. So you can't live in both places. So I've just I'm grateful for that. And also, what is your what's your favorite way to have fun?Stef Caldwell  Oh my gosh. I mean, I love a good hike with a girlfriend. I love a good boating day. I love, like last night I went saw Joe Rogan stand up. I like I would see stand up every night if if I could (Lesley:same) laughing like just laughing for the sake of laughing and like scewing around. I was listening to another podcaster or some gal and she's like, "Never lose the art of just screwing off. Just to screw off." And like I that's you know what I typically do on a Sunday when I'm not doing this.Lesley Logan  Well, first of all, I love that. Second, I would also I wanted to be in stand up. I really like thought like, "Oh my God, that's the thing I should be doing." But (Stef: Yeah) I can't stay up past 10 o'clock if like I really can't. I have like really try and there's occasional moments where it happens and like, "Wow, see, I could do it." I can't like I need to be a lunchtime comedian like people who want to be like 2 pm. (Lesley and Stef laughs)Stef Caldwell  Can we normalize lunchtime comedians, (Lesley: Yes) because I will share this. When I was early in my career, I had read that learning improv and stand up can be really good for a sales career. So I went and I we've got in Chicago, this school called Second City, Tina Fey trained there. You know, I think like Bill Murray trained there, right, like notable comics have trained there. And went took lessons and everything was so late at night. I was like, "This crew is not going to be for me. I like bedtime by eight." You know, this is just (Lesley: Yeah) kind of the table this one for future life.Lesley Logan  Yeah. No, same. So like, that's what happened. I was in a comedy class and I literally stopped going because I was like, I am falling asleep driving home like this (Stef: Right, right.) is not working for me. (Stef: Same.) So since we're not actually professional comedians, (Stef: Yeah) because clearly, we weren't born with that, that body clock. So when you're not ha... like the times that you are not having like the fun or hiking with a girlfriend like hopefully your work, it's fun. But what are you doing because you got your prof... your profes... Oh, my God. Hello, Lesley, Personal Development Author, like what made you get into these things and what are you doing on your daily basis?Stef Caldwell  Yeah, yeah. So as in terms of my career, I have always worked in tech startups. And that's been, you know, a multi decade journey doing everything from selling products to marketing products, to working directly with customers to keep them around, to use those products to actually building the products themselves. And about six years ago, I woke up in a tech startup days after I didn't get this promotion that I had raised my hand for. And, of course, you know, like, if you work in tech startups, like they are traditionally run by white men and there's nothing wrong with my white men. I love them. I've got two white men brothers and a white dad. But I was like, "You got to be kidding me." Like the glass ceiling that everybody told me about. I finally ran smack into it and this really, really sucks and so I remember at the time, you know, reading reading some some quote that like, in terms of like, overall gender equality were 208 years away from like, when women will be equal with men. And I was just livid. (Lesley: Yeah) I was like, "What?" And so it really just set me on this journey to be the best that I could be to turn around and help other women, you know, be the best that they could be, and ultimately to, to write a personal development book while still kind of maintaining my career in technology, because I believe that women have a space there and, and that there's a lot we can do if we continue to participate in that environment.Lesley Logan  Okay, so first, what's the book called? So, I can go read it..Stef Caldwell  Yeah. The book is called ManifestHer. And there's a subtitle, which the essence of it is like, helping young women manifest their biggest dreams and lives.Lesley Logan  I love that. I, you know, people hearing the part where you didn't get the promotion could get upset at that. And then there's like, obviously, like the looking back up, like, at least for me, I'm like, thank goodness, you didn't, because it made you go read this thing and go, "What the fuck like, like, I'm here." You know what I mean? Like, the frustration of that is what really put you on the path to where you are right now. And like the things that you're doing today. And so like, while I wish for you to always have the success you want, like, there's something about hitting those walls that really helped us become who we're supposed to be. (Stef: Yeah.) So for the, for the person who's listening to like, like, when you hear that number, 208 years, it feels like, it just it kind of can feel like an overwhelming and a little bit debilitating, like, what are, how are we supposed to get to 208 years to be now. (Stef: Yeah, yeah. I mean ...) I don't want to wait to 208 years. I'm not gonna live that long.Stef Caldwell  Literally, I think every single day, how do we collapse that. And there's so many ways, I think the easiest ways are like looking inside of ourselves, and really getting a sense for our worth. And what that translates to in terms of our hourly rate, or annual salaries, and making sure that the worth that we feel is the worth that's reflected in the paychecks that we are, you know, either getting from our employers or getting, you know, by building building our businesses. I think the second thing that you can do is take that wealth and instead of spending it or giving it away is investing in it, or investing in your future investing in the markets. I joke oftentimes that like we can go and we can blow you know, 200 bucks at Target. But do you own $200 worth of target stock? My guess is that if you put the same amount of money that you're gonna go blow your favorite publicly traded company into their stock, that you would feel, feel and realize gains over time. And that's like a really specific example, don't go invest in target stock. There's definitely better mechanisms for you ...Lesley Logan  Don't take stock advice from a podcast. (Stef: Right, right.) But particular with ones that we don't know what day you're listening to this. But okay, so first of all, like I'm like, yes. Okay, invest and then it's like, right, how, like, what, like, how do you know which, like, how, like, what's the first step to like doing that? Because I think that that's totally wise, because then every time you go and shop at said, Target, you are at least like benefiting your personal interests. But um, for the person who's like, "Yeah, but I don't actually even know how to do that." Like, where do they need to go to learn? Is there a class there supposed to take?Stef Caldwell  Yeah, I mean, there certainly are classes that you can take, I think it just starts by getting curious. Asking, you know, "For every dollar that I'm earning, how can I put this dollar to work for me." And you'll find there's so many different thought leaders in the space that I've like, looked to over the course of my financial journey from I remember, like getting out of college, and like Suze Orman was like, the person that I've admired, recommended. And she's just like a women's kind of like, personal development meets money, money, you know, mindset guru, then there's like the Jen Sincero of the world that will really help you step into mindset, there's the Tony Robbins of the world that will help you, you know, build kind of some structure around how to treat and handle your wealth. And then there's also like people that you can pay that literally for a living can help you maximize your total earning potential over the course of your life.Lesley Logan  Yeah, yeah, I mean, I highly recommend it. And also, like, Suze Orman helped me like, actually get out of credit card debt from after college, because like, who was charging her books on credit cards, that'd be me. I was like, "I need this book for this class." And so I like read her a little note about, like, how to pay off your credit cards faster. And it actually worked. Like it was like, take pay off the smallest one and then go on to the biggest one, you'll have more money. And I was like, "Oh." But I, I know that, you know, we're all I was often raised, like, just save the money and don't spend it and I love that you follow that up with like, invest it, because (Stef: Yeah) it's not about not buying the lattes, ladies. It's like, it's like, you know, using that money to go work for you. (Stef: Yeah) It's very different than just like holding on to it and not doing anything with it.Stef Caldwell  Yeah. So I mean, there's, there's stats out there and I might butcher these a little bit, but we'll give you guys the essence. So right now, let's say you got $100 in a bank account inflation's at like 9% so that means you know you're from today. If that $100 is worth $90, you can put that in the markets and the markets, you know, don't don't you know, generate these returns always. But let's say that you generate it that same 9%. Now you have $109, or, you know, whatever the math on (Lesley: Yeah) that is. It's really important to be thinking about, like, by keeping this just as cash in the bank. Am I gaining money or am I losing money? And if you lose money every single year, for a lifetime, you're gonna wake up in a much different spot than if you gain money every single year for a lifetime.Lesley Logan  Yeah, yeah. So I want to go back to what you were saying earlier, and there was a couple things you talked about there was investing. There's also your book ManifestHer. (Stef: Yeah) So um, and then there's a 208 years we're trying to collapse. There's a lot of things that you're doing and which I'm really obs... I'm obsessed with. When it comes to when it came to like writing your book and helping women manifest. What was the difference between like, just manifestation? Maybe this is in your book and like act... like the action towards getting the thing that you're manifesting? Is there steps for that? What do you normally do for that?Stef Caldwell  Yeah. When I was graduating from undergrad, I remember waking up and for my entire life, I've been an athlete and being absolutely terrified about life after college, because all of my identity was tied up in like, the environment that is like the academic world. And this is so random, but my then boyfriend now husband bought me a purple Zippy from Lululemon. And I was like, "What is this Lululemon company?" Right. Like, at the time, I'd only wore Nike. And anyway, I went to their website, and I found this goal setting program manifestation program that they had at the time. And what they recommend you do in this program is a few things. First, is take stock of your life as it was 10 years ago, and show yourself, remind yourself how much growth you've experienced over the course of a decade. And it's actually mind blowing when you do that exercise. And then the second is to project out your life 10 years and envision yourself in the environment that you most desire to be in, if you could create everything in your life that you wanted. And again, you're reminding yourself of all the growth you've experienced in the past 10 years can really like an uninhibited you from envisioning where you could be in the next 10 years.Lesley Logan  This is amazing. This is so cool. Because, you know, so many people are like, "Okay, what do I want to be in the next 10 years?" And that's like, I don't know, like, depending on the day, you might be like, I know where exactly where I'll be." (Stef: Right) And they're like, "Everything is against me, I don't trust me right now." But to actually take the data of how far you've come in the last 10 years, you probably wouldn't even have believed that you'd be where you are now 10 years ago. (Stef: Yeah) So that is really cool Stef. I am going to do this homework assignment when we're done.Stef Caldwell  Well, let me let me raise you one. (Lesley: Okay.) So when they talk about the next 10 years, it can be really, really challenging to be like, this will be the job. And this will be the salary. And this will be you know where my house is like your address. But it's a lot easier when you abstract out that specifics, right. This is how I want to feel in my career, this is how I want to feel in my home, these are the types of things that I envision. And so they would recommend, and this is what I recommend in the book is that you kind of break down your life into three component parts, your personal life, so the relationships that you have, your health, you know, like literally your being and like how you're treating your body and your career, which I think you know, translates directly to financial, and then reverse engineer where you want to be when you're envisioning that 10 year you to where you need to be in five years to be on track, or you need to be in one year to be on track. And then my recommendation is like, keep pulling that back. What could you do in the next 30 days? What could you do tomorrow, and then you end up with a roadmap for everything that you need to accomplish in order to manifest that life.Lesley Logan  I love that. I love that a lot. I I have done this. Well, this is how I do all my goals. Everything is a reverse reverse roadmap, something because I used to take a maze and like start at the end and like work my way backwards. I just my dad says is cheating. (Stef: Which is so smart. I love that.) Thank you. And he's like, you're, they're cheating. I'm like, why wouldn't you be ...Stef Caldwell  Right. You're like "No dad. I'm just a manifester. Okay"?Lesley Logan  I know it is preparing me for this. But it is true when you do it like that. It does feel like more tangible. And you can actually you can't, what it does make you do as you can't go, I don't know how to do that. I'm like, I've get to be stuck, you actually do know the next action step you can take and so it helps you like kind of get that ball rolling and get out of your own way. Sometimes, you know, because I think we can be the first person in our own way before other obstacles show up.Stef Caldwell  Yeah. And I think oftentimes, like the first step is a conversation. Or it's like a Google search, right? It's the most simple things.Lesley Logan  Yeah, yeah. Thank you for ... because it is it shouldn't be that simple. If your first step is not as simple as a Google search or conversation, you can break it down. Another a little bit, everyone. (Stef: Exactly.) Okay. you mentioned women, their you said 'worth' and making sure that like, if they're working for themselves, or they're working for someone like is their worth reflected in what, they're what they're getting back. I feel like, at least in the communities that I'm running, a lot of women can have a day where they feel like they are definitely worthy. And then they feel guilty of the work that they're demanding of that they make. Right? How do we, I feel like that is a big step that we need to figure out if we want to collapse the 208 year situation that we're in, because if like, when I coach, the male teachers, I coach, they have no problems. Like, I'm like, oh, yeah, that they want to make this much no problem. And they go ask, like, they don't actually ever feel guilty about that. And other people, like when I coach women, they're like, I know about, like, one of my clients gonna say, like, if I can't like that, like, I don't know why we're so concerned. Am I making sense? So like, what is it that you found and what can we do as women to kind of get the guilt and the worth to not be competing against each other?Stef Caldwell  Yeah, I think it's, I mean, it's challenging, it's really challenging to step into the version of you that can demand that, because there's a lot of emotion and complexity tied up with money. So oftentimes, when I feel like emotionally tied to a situation, I try to be more objective, literally take a step back and look at the skills that you have, and how much the market pays for those skills, and how good you are at those skills. And that will show you that you're either on the bottom side of that market, or the top side of the market. And my guess is, if you're listening to this podcast, you really give a crap, you're probably doing a ton of self work, you create tremendous value for the people that you work with the organizations that you work in. And the the work that you do reflects that. And so, why why conflate how you feel about accepting money with the objective reality of your worth being being more and, and then try to expand your container to be able to receive that. And now that's, that's kind of it. I don't know how useful that is for somebody, but that's what's worked for me.Lesley Logan  Yeah, I think like when you said, expand your container, it's almost like I had to like, I'm a visual person. So I like this close, like, think about like closing your eyes and like, like allowing yourself to be big enough to have to receive all of that. And I (Stef: Yeah) think sometimes we are so used to playing small, we've made our container so small that it gets filled up really quick before we've reached our worth.Stef Caldwell   Yeah, yeah. James Clear, wrote a great book, Atomic Habits. And there's something that he says in the book that has really stuck with me, and that I constantly find myself going back to, and it's, I'm the type of person who, and then fill in the blank at the end of that. And I think it's like, I'm the type of person who makes half a million dollars a year or a million dollars a year, or $10 million per year. And then like, again, like envisioning and stepping into, like, who would I have to be to actually be able to receive $10 million a year? Like, what, like, I'd probably have to be a different person. Like, that's not my income level. Um, but again, like just going through those mental exercises, like who would I have to become to be able to receive in that capacity can really help you figure out like, where you need to do the work to be able to receive in that capacity?Lesley Logan  Yeah, that couldn't be more be it till you see it if I you know, if I told you to say that. (Lesley and Stef laughs) But you know, what if so, I was talking to one of my friends who owns a business in town, and I was going to teach a workshop for her. And I just said to her, "I love you, I, I'm saying no, right now. And it's not you. It's just I need some more time to be with myself." And I said, and I ran into her person, I said, "Thank you for understanding most people be like, oh, when can you do it?" And she just was like, "No problem." That's so amazing. And she said, "Lesley, she's like, I am working on something right now. And so you saying that this gave me more time to work on that thing." But what it was, and this is where I'm gonna get your point is writing down like the person you want to be or the thing you want to have, and then making sure that the next thing that you write down or the next thing you think, isn't conflicting with that, so who like I'm the type of person makes half million dollars. The next thing is, like, you said, like, what would I have to do to to be someone who can make a half million dollars to someone who makes a half million dollars? And she says, oftentimes, we write down like, but I don't have that and I have a job that only pays me $115,000. You know, like, we start to like, we erode the manifest that we erode the vision and really what it's mostly is like, okay, if I may make a half million dollars, what is the person what makes a half million dollars do in the morning? Where does a person who makes half a million dollars go to work? Where do they work, right, like, (Stef: Yeah) that kind of thing. And so I I have been working on that, because I stopped doing one of my morning routines of journaling, because I was busy. I convinced myself, we're so good at this, even those of us who have like a really strong morning routine can convince ourselves like, I need that extra 15 minutes. And I remember I was at the bank yesterday. And as it was a little frustrating thing to do at the bank. And I was like, you know, people who don't have problems at the bank, probably also make time for journaling. And they don't feel guilty about it. And they don't like all these things, like as I made up my own version of it, but like, it's, we keep waiting until we have the thing to be the person want to be as opposed to like, who is that person and what are they have to do? And how do we add that in right now. And maybe you only are making $115,000. But if you start taking the steps that a half million dollar person is doing, you can have that life sooner. (Stef: Yeah, yeah.) You can have that million dollar life and working your way towards making it.Stef Caldwell  Yeah, and I think two things to that. First is our de facto response to anything that feels uncomfortable is I can't and I would just encourage your listener every time like that thought comes up in your head like override doop, doop, doop, how can I? Right. And then 'how can I' is just more expansive question ask yourself. The second thing is know that there has been plenty of research executed that would indicate to you that just by having that goal of hitting that, you know, half million dollar per year mark or million dollar per year mark, or whatever it is for you. You are, I think it's like 10 times more likely to achieve it just by having that written. So there was like a Harvard Harvard research study done in the 80s. Look this up, it'll blow your frickin mind. But basically, like 3% of people graduating Harvard that year had both written goals, as well as plans for achieving them. And when they were revisited years later, they were making 10x those of their peers that have either, you know, written goals or no goals at all.Lesley Logan  That is incredible. That, first of all, I love that. It's also so believable. I mean, maybe the listeners remember this story, but maybe not remind you. When Brad and I decided to move to Las Vegas. First, it was December 2019. We're like, "Hey, maybe we should maybe we should actually think about moving to Las Vegas." And Brad said like, "Yeah, like in 2022, or 2023." This is 2019, right? Because we had so many plans for 2020. And we had to like kind of change the life if you're gonna want to move and buy a house like we were living in California without the goal of buying a house. So, you have to make a lot of life decisions that are different everyone, when you're ready to buy a house, and you were living in California before. So fast forward March 2020, our entire count calendars, cancelled everything. Like I'm just like, literally refunding retreats and workshops and all this stuff. And I had a client who said, she worked at Google and she said, "We're going to be home until June of 2021," is what they said. This isn't April of 2020. And I was like, "If Google's going to be at home remote, every tech company is going to a remote and space is going to become a commodity." And so I told Brad, we need to move to Vegas now. And he's like, "Okay, well maybe like this, like later this year." And I'm like, "Nope, June 1st. We're moving June 1st." And so we did this whole thing we wrote down like how many rooms will the house have? How like how much will can we spent? Like, what how much we want to have a square footage, what does it have? We are very specific. And then we put that away, we started doing some stuff did a couple work things. And sure enough, when we found this house, it was all the things we wrote down. It was a better price point than we thought and we moved on June 1. Like it was all these things and so havin not written down having like, "Oh, we're gonna do that whatever." We're not like actually gotten specific about it. I don't I can tell you right now it probably wouldn't be here because I wouldn't have known what I was looking for. I wouldn't know I found it.Stef Caldwell  Yeah, yeah. There's so there's so many things and that one is I have to reference a woman's work who I just adore Dr. Tara Suat Swart. She is like a neural manifestation guru. So she talks about like the brain science behind manifesting and then the second thing so go and read her book The Source (The Source? Yeah, The Source.) So go and read that if you like this conversation. Second thing is the universe loves clarity, the universe does not love wishy washy. Same exact thing happened to me and my husband. It was last Christmas, (unfortunately we didn't get the house which I'm still grieving) but we started asking ourselves if we left the city because we were city people. Then like what would the dream house look like for us? Number of rooms, walkout basement on a lake with a boats with all these things? Can I swear on this? (Lesley: You can totally. Yeah.) I shit you not I get on Zillow the very next day and I'm like, "Oh my God, this is the house in our price range." You know what all these elements it's like, by having that clarity you can attract and find that thing because you're aware that that's what you're looking for.Lesley Logan  100%. So you let I'm gonna put I put the source down because I got a I got a credit on my book thing to read. But I am rereading in paperback Pam, I think her name is Grout, Pam Grout's book E-Squared. And she also did some science behind things and everyone who's like, "Oh my God, these two girls are talking about manifesting and getting clar..." Do that, if you are a doubter. This is the book for you because she (Stef: Yeah) has nine experiments. All, seven of them only take 48 hours to do or less. And it's you have to be specific, but you are she literally has you test the universe to prove that it exists and that it brings you things. And I did this book, gosh, in 2013 20... No 2014, I did this book and I wanted to experiment I wrote Brad's name down and we were not dating and he was not calling me and nor was he texting me, but I wrote his name down as someone who's going to call me. And the rule was it had to be someone who knew your information, but you would not say, "Oh, call me later," like, couldn't be like, we hadn't talked in like three months. So I wrote his name down and within 48 hours, he had texted me and like the rest (Stef: Wow!) is history. So (Stef: Wow!) so like, I, I've been feeling a little bit like, I've been feeling a little unspecific and things and I'm just like, "I, want?" Like, insert generic goal here. And so I'm like," You know what, we have to get back on that book, we have to get back on the specific bandwagon." So so everyone two manifesting books with science behind it. (Stef: Yes) I feel like there's a better house for you, there was a thing, but but as a city person, you have to be specific if you're gonna leave.Stef Caldwell  Yeah. I know. (Stef and Lesley laughs) I'm been checking out Zillow every day. So ...Lesley Logan  My advice, because that was a really weird to leave the city of LA like, like in UCLA to like, Vegas, and I were we are by the Strip. So I'm like, "Oh, look, city skyline." (Stef: Yeah, yeah.) Okay, so back to women and building wealth, (Stef: Yeah) and feeling worthy. What, what do you say to the woman who, who may be like, oh, it will just use me as example because I know, we have a lot of listeners like this. I wasn't raised with money. I was raised with parents who like, well, one parent who would spend the money, lose the game. And I kind of felt like it's because I didn't feel worthy. And that's why the like getting rid of the money. (Stef: Yeah.) You know, sorry, Mom, if you're listening. But just an observation. And then you know, so no money is always gone. The answer to everything was no, we don't have any money. And then to fast forward, where I make way more money than I ever saw an adult member of my family make. What do you say to that person as they are trying to even build more wealth or feel more worthy of things like when around them, they never had that as a model? Is there, is there a mantra, is there something they could think of? Like, what is it because that is also stopping us from bridging that gap.Stef Caldwell  Yeah, I think the first thing is, in any area of your life, when you start doing work, results come, right. And we have been trained in how to have relationships with the people that we work with, in our careers, we have been not trained in how to have a relationship with our money. And so there's tons of money experts out there, there's a woman that I really adore, whose work has really impacted my life, Jocelyn Kelly Reid, who teaches us to look at money, like a resource, just as air is a resource that is abundant that we breathe, and we don't think about, imagine money being the same, it can come into your life, it can exit your life, it's literally just kind of this ebb and flow of how you exist. And for me, you know, similar situation like middle middle class, you know, but but my parents didn't have tons of acculan... affilance, affluence.Lesley Logan  It's okay, Sunday's bring on the worst words.Stef Caldwell  Right, right. And so, um, you know, even just like getting around, getting centered around things like debt, right? Like, I think debt can like be this major shame spiral, especially for women, because we've been told it's bad. But in reality, like debt is just a means to afford a future that we may need to step into more soon than we're ready. My husband, I bought a home, you know, a number of years ago that we invested into as an Airbnb property. And I took on debt to make that investment. But that investment has paid back tenfold, maybe 30 fold at this point. And so while I had shame around the debt at the time, now I look at it and I'm like, "It was the best decision I ever made." And it accelerated the future that we're now living in. And so again, you know, there were you put forth effort results follow, I would encourage anybody listening to this, if you have money, shame issues, if you have a belief system that makes you feel like you're not worthy of accomplishing the financial success that is available to you, if you just simply want it, go and put in the work there.Lesley Logan  Yeah, that is, I like that. I also I like the way you put that together, because it is where you put the effort, it does expand and (Stef: Yeah) you know, so and if that's where you need it, and, and thank you for bringing up the debt thing, because I do think there's a lot of shame around that kind of stuff. And one thing you'll that you don't know is like pretty much everyone has it. (Stef: Yeah) So you're not the only one. (Stef: Right, right.) And also something that I remember, because I would say this to my clients who like didn't like the number on the scale and I'm like, "Well, you're not walking around with your scale number on your shirt like no one actually knows what you weigh." (Stef: Yeah) The same really is for your bank account and you walk around thinking that everyone around you who looks like they have money has more than you, you don't know, they might have tons of debt that goes along (Stef: Right) with the money that they have. And so I think like, I remember, I heard a speaker, and oh my gosh, her name is escaping me. And y'all if I remember, I'll put in the shownotes, or we'll talk about in the recap, but she was very clear, like one, the energy of what you spend the money on your bills matters. So like when you like to have a lot of positivity around paying the taxes and paying the bills, and the word you use and then two like, credit is a good thing. (Stef: Yeah) Like having having that ability to use that to expand the business that you're growing or the the work that you're doing. It's very different than just like going to Target. (Lesley laughs) Again, there's a difference. So I really, really enjoyed that. Okay. So Stef, like with if somebody is wanting to start today to have more of an idea around welcoming wealth and I mean, obviously, we have your manifestation tips, and we can and wanting to get into the investment world, what what other things need to think about when it comes to building wealth? Is there like an obstacle or something we may not have discussed yet that could be like, hindering women from actually making the wealth they want to make?Stef Caldwell  Yeah. So there's a book that I read a couple of years ago, that just the title alone is Epic. It's F word being humble. So being humble. (Stef and Lesley laughs) And I remember, I remember reading it and being like, "Who would I be, if I was the boss's version of me that had no humility whatsoever?" Right. Like, take all the humility that has been like entrained in you from being a woman and playing small and all these things that society kind of like forces on us. And just strip that away for a second. Don't gotta do it for a long time. Maybe just go get in the shower, and be the boss's version of yourself and talk about your accolades, and your accomplishments, and how far you've grown, and how incredible you are. And what a great you know partner you are and the people in your community, like literally go to the most expanded, pompous, like proud version of you. And just let that out. And now the next time you're going into any money related conversation, whether it's raising your rates, working with clients, whether it's raising your rates, you know, going into the next career opportunity, if it's right for you. I want you to remember, every single thing that you stated when you were being the least humble version of you, because that's who you really are. And like when you accept that, you'll realize that in many ways, like you are underpaid or undervalued or undervaluing yourself even. And so, yes, so much of how we are able to receive is based on like, what we are available for, and so just go increase your level of availability, and then you know, money will flow to you.Lesley Logan  Oh, I really love that. I really love that. And I I was thinking as you're saying that, like no one has ever like said, "You know what, go see so and so they're the most humble, aka cheapest place in town." Like no one's saying that. (Lesley and Stef laughs)Stef Caldwell  Yeah. Like, I imagined, like, going to, like work with, you know, fitness provider. And they're like, "You know, I'm like, actually not very good at helping you accomplished your goals. Like, I'm mediocre at best." Like, "No way." Are you gonna, like I want to go to the person to be like, "You're gonna leave your with a six pack, a totally new diet, and be absolutely ripped, just like you want." Like, that's who I'm gonna hire. (Lesley: Yeah) So be their version of you ...Lesley Logan  Well, isn't it isn't it Tony Robbins is like the most certain person that wins. They win all the time. (Stef: Yeah) Like I'm most certain person wins. And I also think like, if you'd follow that up with like, "I'm going to do all this super, super confident. How much do you charge? Oh it's $50?" (Stef: Right) Like, with a question mark. They're be like, "Ah, wait, what? I was about to pay. That sounds like a $200 an hour thing. And now it's like, I'm gonna wonder what's wrong with it, it doesn't match. (Stef: Yeah) Like your most bosses, like badassary, doesn't matter the price you just told me?"Stef Caldwell  Yeah, when people pay, they pay attention. And you're the price that you you request is more about the transformation that you provide your customer than it is about what you're able to receive. So like think about this, when you pay $50 for a service, you show up and you treat that $50 service those same way you treat a $50 service. We pay $5,000 for a service, you show up is a very different person. $20,000 $100,000 Right? Like know that your customers will get more value out of you when you you know demand a price point that forces them to show up as the best versions of themselves.Lesley Logan  Yeah, yeah. And you also will like them more. You won't resent them for... (Stef: Yeah) Like because you know when we resent something's because we broke around with ourselves and if you're under charging, of course you're gonna resent that yourself or you're gonna be mad at you because you're, they're blowing off the thing that you think that they should be valuing but you didn't charge them enough for them to value it? And then you're pissed because you're also not making enough to do the thing, but they're not valuing.Stef Caldwell  Yeah, yeah. And there's so much to unpack in our feelings around money too. Like, what revenue do you bring into your business that like, feels like hell yeah, revenue. And what revenue do you bring in that you're like, "Oh, I do not even like this." Then find ways to get more hell yeah revenue and less revenue, and ultimately, you'll grow over time.Lesley Logan  Okay, well, that that is I can't, Brad's gonna love this. But I already know Brad's gonna love that because that is that is also the one of the most simple ways like I think some people can complicate it like, "Oh, this is the thing that I make the most money on, or this is the thing I sell the most." But it's like actually ask yourself like, which one is like hell yeah money, and which ones like uh money. And then how do you make more hell yeah money. (Stef: Yeah) And what do you have to change in your business or in your day or in your schedule or your life? Like that's oh, yes. Oh, I love. (Stef: Yeah) Okay. Well, Stef, I mean, I feel like it can keep talking to you forever. But we're gonna take a brief pause. And and after that, we'll find out where people can just hear more of your words.Alright, Stef, where are you hanging out? Where are you giving this amazing advice? Don't and you have a podcast coming out? Yeah.Stef Caldwell  I do. I do. So because you've been listening, you know that my whole thing is how do we compress time? How can we help women have more wealth more quickly? There is an emerging economy and emerging industry that I'm really excited about. You may have heard the words Web3, you may have heard the words, Crypto. I'm really passionate about this space, as it's opening doors to new wealth creation for women and not enough women are leaning in. So where people can hang out with me. On September 7, my new podcast Allowlist is launching along with my co host shout out Lauren Tierney, you're amazing. It is a podcast focused all around Web3 and Crypto. I know you might be listening, and you're be like, "Oh, this is so weird. This took a left turn." Trust me. This is an incredible industry. And I would love to have you guys come and listen to that podcast.Lesley Logan  Well, I think it could sound a left turn because when people hear Crypto. They think, "Oh, God, that's just like, I don't even understand stock markets. And I have to understand like that." And then also everything that they've heard about Crypto. But can you like in layman's terms describe what Web3 is? Because I think that that's a word that they've heard less.Stef Caldwell  Yes. So if you think about the internet, something we all know and love. In the early 90s, the only thing you could do on the internet was read stuff. That's Web1. If you think about your experience with the internet, right now, you can both read things on the internet, as well as interact with people on the internet. So it's read and write. Web3 is a new iteration of the internet that allows you to read, write and own your experiences in your digital life. If you think about things that we've talked about on this podcast, envisioning where this world is 10 years from today, my guess is that we're spending even more time and digital lives than we have been historically. And Web3 really enables the ownership of our digital lives as opposed to being owned by the public utilities that are available to us. I ...Lesley Logan  Are we talking about the metaverse? Are we talking about like living in a like a like a an like a what does that virtual reality is that what we're talking about?Stef Caldwell  Metaverse is one component of Web3, but certainly not the whole story.Lesley Logan  Thank God, thank God, there's another part of the story because I was like, I just not, I don't want to be part of that world as much. I'm already there. They already have three apps for me. (Lesley and Stef laughs) I thought you know what, first of all, like, I hope you all download it and go and listen, and at least at least listened to all their launch episodes. Because here's the deal, women historically, we've not been able to be part of the first steps of any creation, like this, even in the 90s. Like how many women were in tech companies, right. And now you are part of tech companies. You can tell people how few women are there. And this is like an opportunity for all of us to actually be part of it, be part of what's being curated. And we already know when women are at the top we do way better decisions. (Lesley laughs) (Stef: Which is completely true.) So there's science everyone. But I like I think that this is this is not something we should avoid because this is though an awesome opportunity. We could be part of it at the beginning and we should be. So I'm excited that y'all are doing it. I can't wait to tune in and actually learn about something I know this much about. And Brad is like, "Lesley you know," he he talks about it all the time but like I think I've been like you know, blinders on blah, blah, blah, but we can't do that anymore. We need to be part of it if we want to make the changes and we want to also be in charge of the experience we get to have which we all should want to do that. So thank you for sharing that podcast. It's Allowlist?Stef Caldwell  Yeah, allowlist.vip is the website and @allowlist.vip is the Instagram, Twitter, TikTok you know all the places.Lesley Logan  Wonderful. Okay, so we asked everyone and you've given so many great action steps already. So, I totally understand if you're highlighting the best ones, but Be It Till You It action items. Bold, executable, intrinsic or targeted steps women can do to be until they see it.Stef Caldwell  Yeah, I was really excited about this question when I was preparing. So I wrote down four principles that guide my life. And these are quotes from other people that I've picked up and other personal development books along the way. The first is, there's a statute of limitations on all childhood traumas, I think in many ways we let trauma, hold us back, work, do the work, and then choose to hop, skip, jump past it. I think that that's just a choice we all make. I have my own trauma, you can hear about that on plenty of other podcasts. But that's a guiding principle for me. The second is that you have to say 'no' to what you want to do, in order to do what you really want to do. I think the power of 'no' is so undervalued. But the more you start saying 'no' to the things that you want to do, the more you can start saying 'hell yes' to the things that you really want to do. And sometimes it's harder, but it's better. (Lesley: I love that.) The third is you can have your excuses. You can have success, but you can't have both. So make a decision. Who do you want to be? And then the fourth is ask yourself every single day. Are you willing? Are you willing to be that person that person that takes action, the person that has the hard conversations with themselves and with others, the person that can step into the life that you most desire. And so that's it.Lesley Logan  Oh my gosh, saving all those, saving and putting, I'm like gonna put them where I can read them from my desk. I'm one of those people who needs a little reminders all the time.Stef Caldwell  And I will say this I have to give you the names of the people that said those ... (Lesley: Okay) because those are not my original words and I don't want anybody to think that they are. (Lesley and Stef laughs)Lesley Logan  Let's give the credit and where are they from?Stef Caldwell  Yeah. Statute of limitations is Alex Banayan, Third Door. Saying no to what you want for what you really want, Amber Amber Rae, Choose Wonder Over Worry. You can have your excuses, but you can have or success. That's Jen Sincero. And then are you willing is Gary John Bishop.Lesley Logan  Okay, The Third Door book everyone that's an put that one on your list. That is a phenomenal book. That is such a good book. And it is, I think I can look back at my life and see that every success I've had is from the third door. (Stef: Yeah) Like it's never, it's never been the first door. It's always been this third door. And whenever I try to go the first or second I'm always rejected. I'm always like, "Oh."Stef Caldwell  You're like, "These stupid doors."Lesley Logan  Oh my God, these are, okay, I could have you on forever. You are amazing. You have such great advice. Thank you for being so willing to share it and and also, I hope to have you back. So if you all loved her, and you love what she said. Let us know screenshot this, tag her on Instagram, tag her podcast, go listen to it and say which part of this was your best takeaway? Starla is the first and only premium alcohol removed wine created for wine lovers wishing to nix the spirits, but savor the experience. Their trio of varietals: Red Blend, Sauvignon Blanc and Sparkling Rosé are delicious for sipping, socializing, and pairing. The only thing more delightful than the bevvie is the branding – Dawn and Jamie wanted to take an untraditional approach to branding Starla – one that was undeniably feminine, highly stylized and lifestyle-focused. With a push towards the beauty and fashion world, they worked with an amazingly talented design team to give Starla her fashion-forward image, from bottle to brand. The Starla label is a colorful expression of radiant light surrounding the reflective female cameo image known as Starla. Starla represents the inner star in all of us and the brand imagery tells the story of how luminous your life can be on your terms, without alcohol. I had so much fun sitting down with Dawn on this episode of PM School to cover all things launching your alcohol-alternative brand. Grab your glass of Starla, grab your biz bestie & tune in!!! The idea that our bodies are just vessels to carry us through life which is why we want to take care of them and keep them strong as opposed to trying to make them smaller. That there is no diet or workout that is "the best". It's just about finding the one that's sustainable for your lifestyle. Why being "healthy" means nothing without your mental health. That taking spin classes or any cardio can't really make you "bulky". How to shift your workouts to be more fun and value based. Why having the proper knowledge behind your health and fitness can be so empowering The science that proves weight training is the best way to see weight loss. Good news - you don't have to run! In today's episode, Julia has a heartfelt conversation with Stef Caldwell, a passionate advocate for women and an overall superstar. Stef is the founder of ManifestHer Network, host of the ManifestHer Podcast and author of ManifestHer (called “the Self love book of 2020”). She also leads Business Development at Narrative Science (a disruptive A.I. company) and has recently added “angel investor” to her resume. When Stef was 22 she wrote an audacious list of 10 year goals, and by understanding the Law of Attraction and using techniques like visualization, she achieved those goals in less than 5 years. And that only encouraged her to dream bigger, which she continues to do, and through practicing Manifestation, she has accomplished more than she ever thought possible. Stef also shares her thoughts on the “post prescribed” life: what happens when education comes to an end and you're forced to decide what it is you really want, which may not necessarily be following the path your family or society has laid out for you. Finally, Stef talks about her multi-hyphenate career and the importance of enjoying what you do in order to achieve what you want. The journey, to Stef, is the reward. This is one conversation you won't want to miss. But when you focus on the means, you get to enjoy every moment of every single day.” “When I published my book, I thought I was going to wake up that day and be a different person. But it's who I got to become in the process...that's all that matters. That day was just a blip in time.” “Always have the vision you're holding close to you in some capacity, whether that's in your phone, a journal, a dream book or even a vision board.” “It feels almost too simple, but then again that is The Law of Attraction: put out the energy you want to receive and [the thing you desire] will come to you...it's not hippy woo woo, it's Psychology.”

We talk about the success mindset, and the impact it has on our self esteem and how it can get in the way of our goals. Stef and I discuss our different viewpoints on the way we can create inner peace and self acceptance.  If you struggle with overthinking and constantly thinking you aren't good enough, this episode will show you how to discard those shackles. Everyone tracks some form of data. (We track quite a lot of it if we're rolling with the times.) But amassing data isn't meaningful unless we can create a narrative out of the facts.   For example, if you just looked at the cold data of the COVID-19 pandemic, you'd start to feel pretty hopeless, but if the data started to produce fact-based stories, we humans would start to be able to understand it and use it to make decisions.   Even greater than comprehending data using narrative is creating community with data. Our guest today is an expert at both, a person who spends most of her time analyzing not just what the data is saying but how it can serve people by connecting customers not just to her company, but to each other.    In this episode, I interview Stef Caldwell, the Senior Customer Success Leader and Community Architect at Narrative Science, about customer experience and customer success.    What we talked about:   - What your data can and can't tell you about your customers   - What the relationship is between CS and CX   - Why we must scale the human touch in Customer Success   - Why to create community around your core beliefs   - How Stef founded Manifest to address the missing rung — the first step that carries women into management   Check out these resources we mentioned during the podcast:   - Manifest   - Lululemon    - Goal setting with Michael Hyatt   - James Clear's Atomic Habits   - Charles Duhigg's Power of Habit   Subscribe, listen, and rate/review the Customer Experience Podcast on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Play, or Google Podcasts, and find more episodes on our blog.

Blake: [00:00:00] today on the podcast you have Stef Caldwell, who is going to tackle a bunch of different subjects with us. Today we're going to be discussing things like side hustles and authenticity and customer experience, kind of the, the whole gamut. [00:00:11] But I'm really excited about this one. But Stef, before we get into it, I do want to give you a chance to give some context about yourself. Basically, if you could just tell us, first and foremost what your career path has been to this point, where you got started and how you got to where you are now. [00:00:28] Stef: [00:00:28] Happy to do that and thanks for having me on the show. So my career path, if you just looked at it on LinkedIn, might be confusing to somebody who doesn't know kind of where I'm headed. So I started, , my first internship was in recruiting, right? I worked at a staffing firm where I was recruiting people and, and helping place them in jobs. [00:00:48] In my professional career, I moved from being a business analyst to working in a sales and marketing role, to then working in a product management role and a channel development role to now where I sit, which is in customer success. And so again, , any person would look at that experience and be like, huh, this girl's really, , been all over the place in terms of her variances. [00:01:08] But the way that I look at it is I'm collecting the experiences necessary to make me the most ultimate general manager or CEO of a business. And I think that, okay, really, really incredible leaders can empathize with their people in any department. And so I really navigated my career path. Bye bye. [00:01:28] Creating opportunities to have those experiences so that when I do become, you're the leader and I am, , and my side hustle that I can really emphasize and create good experiences across departments.  [00:01:39] Blake: [00:01:39] Oh, that's a, that's a pretty unique. Viewpoint, I guess because most people when they go into a side hustle are basically just looking to make money. [00:01:47] That's, I mean, that's the facts of the matter, and I love that you're really more like people focus your  people customer centric. That's going to bode really well for you down the road, and it's gonna be great for our audience as well, because I think it's a really important message to hear. And before we dive too much more in detail, I do ask everybody, what do you consider to be your professional superpower? [00:02:13] Stef: [00:02:13] I think adaptability and tenacity. So whatever the baby is, of those two words, that's me.  [00:02:20] Blake: [00:02:20] It's a necessity.  [00:02:21] Stef: [00:02:21] Untapped tenacity. Yes. it's, . I believe and truly like live out every day that everything is figureoutable and having that mentality and then also having the willingness to get up everyday and take one step forward, even if that step is very uncertain, I think is what sets me apart in my professional career as well as in my side hustle. [00:02:44] Awesome.  [00:02:44] Blake: [00:02:44] Well. I know that you do work full time at narrative science. Correct. So you've, you've already got the full time job. Now you also have the side hustle thing going on.  obviously the word side hustle itself is self explanatory. Do you understand that it's something you're doing on the side? You already have a full time job, but it's another thing to actually help people understand how you can do that.
