1Thessalonians 4:1-8 Our Scripture today can be summed up succinctly in these 3 statements about how we live as Christians: 1. Live a God-pleasing life. 2. Your sanctification is God's will. 3. To reject this is to reject God. From the moment of salvation on, the Christian life is a life of giving as much of yourself as you know to as much of God as you understand. When you're first saved, it's easy, because you know all the things you have repented from. Lying, Cheating, Stealing (blatantly), Sexual Immorality. But then as you move on, the Holy Spirit begins to teach you. The little white lie to avoid hurting someone's feelings is still a lie. That creative accounting you did on your income tax is dishonesty. All those pens and tools laying around the house from your workplace are Stolen Property. That anger, bitterness and unforgiveness you find in your heart; Jesus said it's murder. That temptation that you gave in to. You sinned. So it becomes a little more complicated. But you pray, ask for forgiveness, and you move on. You choose to do that. Every time you deal with the stuff that the Holy Spirit reveals, and choose God's way, you're choosing God. And that pleases Him. Sometimes it's hard to take that step. It's hard because you have to wrestle and come to a decision. You have to choose God's way over the ways of the World.

"Do not steal" is such an important subject to God that not only is it talked about all through Scripture, but it's one of the Ten Commandments. Yet there are seemingly small areas of our lives where, as Christians, we might think it's okay, or that it doesn't really "count" as stealing. One example of an area in which we steal from God is by not tithing back to Him what was rightfully His to begin with.
The Bible instructs us from the beginning not to steal, and yet there are seemingly small areas in each of our lives where we may steal. One area in particular is stealing from God by not tithing what is His. When we give as He instructs in Scripture He has promised to bless us and take care of us. Welcome to Episode 73! We talk about the unfortunate passing of Betty White this week(15:32) while we sip on a brand new Whiskey of the Week(4:00). This leads into a conversation about how much has changed in the past 99 years of her life, and how much it will in the next 99. Then we dive into the question of whether or not the "Great Reset" is coming and what it will look like in small town Iowa if it does(29:00). Box has a rant about how people are laughably ignorant when it comes to how nature works(48:00), which ties in nicely with the theme of stupid people, as we discuss the IRS asking criminals to pay taxes on their stolen goods(58:00). And lastly, have our Weird News Segment(1:17:20), which never disappoints.
IRS recently issued Publication 17 (2021), Your Federal Income Tax designed to help individual taxpayers prepare their 2021 tax return. Think of it as the Instruction sheet for Form 1040 or 1040 -SR. The publication covers everything, from the date your tax return is due (April 18, 2022 because of the Emancipation Day holiday in the District of Columbia) to deducting Personal protective equipment (PPE). Part Two of the publication, Income and Adjustments to Income explains which income is and isn't taxed and discusses some of the adjustments to income that you can make in figuring your adjusted gross income. Remember, the Sixteenth Amendment to the Constitution, granted Congress the "power to lay an collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived" .Well the IRS spells out some of the of those taxable incomes here. Attorney Steven A. Leahy demonstrates the awesome power granted to the IRS in this epoxide of "Today's Tax Talk." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/steven-leahy1/message
It used to be said that crime doesn't pay. But now, according to the IRS, not only does crime pay, but that pay is a taxable asset — and they want a cut. The Internal Revenue Service is now saying that criminals need to report income from crime when they file their taxes. The IRS website now states, “Income from illegal activities, such as money from dealing illegal drugs, must be included in your income on Schedule 1 (Form 1040), line 8z, or on Schedule C (Form 1040) if from your self-employment activity.” This is under a section on taxes for “Illegal activities.” It notes in a separate area that “Illegal bribes and kickbacks” are nondeductible expenses, but notes that “If you receive a bribe, include it in your income.” While clarifying the taxes it wants from kickbacks, the IRS clarifies “You must include kickbacks, side commissions, push money, or similar payments you receive in your income…” And also, if you've stolen someone else's property, the IRS is also now saying it needs to be taxed. Under a “Stolen Property” section, it states, “If you steal property, you must report its fair market value in your income in the year you steal it unless you return it to its rightful owner in the same year.” In this live Q&A with Crossroads, Joshua will discuss these stories and others, and answer questions from the audience. ⭕️ Stay up-to-date with Josh with the Crossroads NEWSLETTER

In the world of Cittagazze, Lyra awakens before Will and plans to visit Mary Malone without him. As she makes her way to the window, she encounters three younger children playing in the water. They talk to her about cats, Specters, the Guild, and a place called the Tower of Angels or Torre degli Angeli. She leaves the children and crosses over into Will's Oxford, making her way to the physics building to see Mary. Dr. Malone tells Lyra that some officials from Will's world are already there and asking about her. They begin questioning Lyra and she accidentally reveals that she knows Will. Realizing her mistake, Lyra flees from the building and is picked up later by the man she met in the museum the day before, Sir Charles Latrom. He takes Lyra to the window that leads to Ci'gazze but before he drops her off, Sir Charles steals the alethiometer. Lyra returns to Ci'gazze and tells Will what happened. Together Lyra and Will go to Sir Charles's house to confront him. He tells them that he will give back the alethiometer if they get him a knife that is being held by a man in Ci'gazze, in the Tower of Angels. Will is shocked when he sees the head of a serpent peeking out the sleeve of Sir Charles' linen coat but Lyra does not see it. She and Will agree to retrieve the knife. They go to the Torre and see a man, Angelica's older brother Tullio, trying to use the knife. Tullio has ambushed and beaten an old man named Giacomo Paradisi and stolen the knife from him. Will and Tullio fight for the knife and Tullio cuts off two of Will's fingers. Will wins the fight and keeps the knife but Tulio escapes. The old man explains that a knife bearer is known by his absence of two fingers. Giacomo teaches Will both how to cut through to other worlds and how to close up the holes again. Later that night, Lyra and Will return to Will's world, planning to use the knife to steal the alethiometer. While they are at Sir Charles house, Mrs. Coulter arrives and Lyra realizes that Sir Charles Latrom is actually Lord Boreal, who wants the knife so he can travel between worlds without fearing the Specters. Lyra causes a diversion so Will can take the alethiometer. Erik Jensen on Earning Freedom podcast At the very tender age of 11, Erik Jensen was living in an abusive, single parent household with daily violence fueled by alcoholism. He sought escape on the streets, committing theft, selling and using drugs, and was always in trouble with the law until Erik found himself in some of the worst prisons in New York. From his late teens to mid-twenties Erik was convicted on an array of charges including Robbery in the Second Degree, Promoting Prison Contraband, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 4th Degree. He ended up serving 12 years collectively in the New York State Department Of Corrections. He did his time at Greene, Franklin, Watertown, Bare Hill, Five Points, Attica, and in 2011-2012 at the now infamous Clinton Correctional Facility in upstate New York. It was there he became well acquainted with inmates David Sweat and Richard Matt. On June 6, 2015, the two convicted murderers pulled off one of the most daring prison escapes in recent history. During his imprisonment Erik was witness to atrocities perpetrated against fellow inmates by several of the guards. He also observed abominable behavior inflicted on inmates by each other, convincing him that the U.S. penal system takes in the bad and instead of rehabilitating, it makes them worse. Erik is a self-taught scholar in the field of prisoner transformation. He uses his own personal experience to revitalize the mind and spirits of men and women who have shared a similar path in life. Through his words, Erik illustrates that we are much more than the worst thing we’ve ever done, and that the potential for doing good resides within every one of us. Given his vast knowledge of the Department of Corrections; Clinton Correctional Facility; David Sweat, Richard Matt and their escape; their accomplices, civilian worker Joyce Mitchell and guard Gene Palmer; plus the barbaric culture of the prison system, Erik Jensen is a consultant on an array of projects with television networks and major motion picture production companies. He is a producer for an upcoming Netflix series, based on the Clinton escape; directed by Jodie Foster, and Executive Produced by Bryan Zuriff and Brett Johnson of Ray Donovan and Mad Men. Erik has been interviewed more than 40 times live on over a dozen networks, including CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, HLN, TWC, PIX11, WNYT13; plus numerous other news media, such as GQ, People, and Time magazines. He has appeared and played a prominent role in television specials: Nightline, Outside The Wall, The Great Prison Break, Inside Edition, Up Close with Marvin Scott, 360 Anderson Cooper, Outfront with Erin Burnett, At This Hour with John Berman and Kate Balduan, and Dateline: "The Accomplice" with Matt Lauer. Erik continues to share his views with the world by consulting on disturbing issues in the prison system nationwide, such as corruption, physical and mental abuse, and the long-term effects of solitary confinement. He has participated in myriad televised debates hosted by award winning journalists such as Deborah Feyerick, Randi Kaye, and Jessica Schneider. Erik is a regular guest speaker on numerous Dutchess County Legislator forums concerning criminal justice reform, and makes weekly guest appearances on County Legislator Joel Tyner’s radio show on WVKR 91.3 FM. He is also frequently invited to the "Earning Freedom" podcast. A California based show created by Michael Santos that is broadcasted in jails and prisons nationwide. SUNY New Paltz welcomes Mr. Jensen every semester to speak with students studying Criminology. He also volunteers at Redhook Residential Youth Facility, where he shares his story of recovery and redemption with juvenile delinquents. Erik is currently a contributing writer at Unheard Voices magazine. See: www.unheardvoicesmag.com He also volunteers with numerous criminal justice reform organizations including but not limited to: Cut50, Prisoner’s Legal Service, and Beacon Prison Action. His memoir is due out in 2017.
