Teen-Turn, an EU wide digital impact organisation of the year, connects girls from underrepresented communities with women who are STEM role models at Ireland's leading companies for summer work placements called "Teenturnships" in order to tackle the deficit of young women in STEM. This year, Teen-Turn's program commenced with 81 girls being introduced to their mentors. These mentors are accomplished women who are STEM professionals, including engineers, data scientists, cybersecurity and AI specialists, and senior managers from prominent companies such as Dell, BNY Mellon, Hostelworld, BD, Aptiv, Bearing Point, and Trane Technologies Thermoking. The participating girls, from DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools), rural, and underserved schools across Ireland, will engage in a two-week immersive experience in August. During this period, they will work on STEM projects under the guidance of their women-in-STEM mentors, gaining firsthand experience. Teen-Turn believes that more girls, from areas where third level education is uncommon, exploring and gaining an interest in STEM will lead to more women earning STEM qualifications, therefore meeting a demand for skills that is outpacing supply. Throughout the program, participants will learn from their mentors and engage in various activities each workday. Additionally, they will document and share their experiences through blogging, providing insights into their journey and the impact of the program.

In this episode of the HVAC School podcast, host Bryan Orr welcomes Matt Bruner to discuss the concept of a "summer survival guide" for HVAC professionals. They explore strategies for maintaining work-life balance during the busy summer season and share personal experiences on prioritizing family and personal well-being while managing the demands of the HVAC industry. The conversation delves into the importance of intentional planning before the summer rush begins. Matt shares how he and his family implement practices like scheduling an end-of-summer vacation, utilizing daycare services, and outsourcing lawn care to create more family time. Bryan emphasizes the need for financial discipline, avoiding impulsive purchases, and instead investing in services that can alleviate stress and create more personal time. The discussion turns to the challenges of people-pleasing tendencies in the workplace and with clients. Both hosts stress the importance of setting boundaries, learning to say no, and prioritizing one's own family and well-being over excessive work hours or unreasonable client demands. They also touch on the evolution of the HVAC industry, discussing how younger workers are bringing a fresh perspective on work-life balance and how businesses are adapting to these changing expectations. Key topics covered in the podcast: Creating a "summer survival guide" for HVAC professionals Strategies for maintaining work-life balance during peak seasons Financial planning and discipline to support personal priorities Setting boundaries with employers and clients The evolution of work culture in the HVAC industry Balancing the desire to help customers with personal and family needs Implementing business practices that reduce stress and improve quality of life The importance of contentment and avoiding the trap of constant comparison Adapting service hours and availability to suit personal and family needs Overcoming the urge to always be available and learning to prioritize personal time   Have a question that you want us to answer on the podcast? SUMMER HABIT SERIES #5Hey CEO- What does your business look like this summer? Better yet, what do you want this summer to be about so that you don't get to the fall and regret that life took over business…or business took over life?Let's be honest, summer is the season where there seem to be more invitations (and distractions) that pull you away from your desk…and while it may feel good in the moment to put it away, you don't want to get to the end of the summer and not like what you see because you didn't give your business much time and attention…And you certainly don't want the opposite to be true, where you find you've missed out on those moments to engage with those you love, the Lord and yourself. No matter where your summer is taking you, if you want your business to grow, you need to pay attention to it... That's why I've invited today's guest, Heather Schaefer of Branding You Big, to have a conversation around how to model running a biz + prioritizing family all while enjoying the season! Heather is a Branding Coach who serves multi-passionate, mission-minded women entrepreneurs with her gift of a unique left brain-right brain combination, which allows her to think strategically and creatively to build a cohesive brand that stands out in the sea of sameness. She is a Premier Success coach with EWomen Network, an expert trainer for Small Business Owners Collective, a speaker and a published author on betterafter50.com. I love that Heather encourages women to raise kids to love the Lord while modeling entrepreneurship so they can grow up to do BIG things…and that Business and life don't have to be separate for women, but rather go together to create a brand that aligns with YOU.You're gonna love her simple habit ideas to help you grow your business this summer…AND prioritize the other parts of your life as you start with the end in mind. Take Heather's Branding Quiz here We pray this blesses, challenges and moves you to action!XO- Lissa + HeatherP.S. Just because I think it's always interesting to understand how other people are working and why. In the past, I've seen other people sharing that they're taking time off in the summer (when I wasn't planning to) and though - ugh - am I doing the wrong thing? We can only do the thing that's right for us now. And - for me now - the right things is to take a step back. And see what ideas come into my brain. I suspect at a business crossroad (there are a lot of crossroads when you run a business) - not sure of the best way forward but I feel in my bones that carrying on on the hamster wheel is not the right thing to do. My favorite season is summer, by far! My favorite month is June (go figure). My birthday month, the name of my 2nd kiddo, my alias...I LOVE summer. Over the past year, I have been working a lot to grow my online Christian business coaching business and have made some huge jumps. With that being said, I've gotten tired and have fallen into my work. This year I am ready to have an epic summer and am planning to make it FUN! So today I am talking all about making summer fun while maintaining a work-life balance! Have Dedicated Work Days This summer I decided to have dedicated work time each week. As a Christian mom business coach, there is a lot to juggle. So, this helps me plan my work time so I can be the most productive while also creating time to spend with my kids. This also gives me the availability to plan out big and small activities to do all summer! Plan Morning Kid Activities Every day that the kiddos aren't in school I want to plan a fun activity and get out of the house in the morning. I want to take them hiking, bring them to the pool, go to the farm, etc. When we are home in the afternoon I want to create time to work on house projects. Another goal of mine is to plan 2-3 bigger activities to do each month, such as going camping, going up to the mountains, having a waterpark day, etc. Overall, this feels like a good balance for me as a Christian business coach and as a mom. I'm excited to spend some time with the kids and help create wonderful summer memories. Maintenance Mode My business is still operating but I am not going to be launching anything. I'm taking a break this summer, which feels like the perfect time! I am focusing on catching up and maintaining. I have worked hard and now it is time to play hard! Don't forget to enjoy the season of life you are in. We need a season of rest because creativity needs rest. Seasons of rest are essential to growth! So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Plan Simple with Mia Moran

The FLOW process exists because I needed to prove to myself that I could work while also eating well, making lifestyle choices that feel free, and having time for me. This balance is perhaps hardest for me in the summer — well, until I acknowledged what a big transition it is from the school year to the summer, and realized that I can feel any way I please if I train my brain to feel that way. It starts with a word. My seasonal “flow” is always an important guide in my life, but I especially feel its significance in the summer with work. I have had summers where I wanted to feel ease and my work bucket was overflowing with challenging work. I have had summers where I wanted to feel productive and all my projects were on hold until the fall. (Luckily I had the sense to write a book that summer!) I am super clear in summer what I want to feel like and the best way for my work to support that. My word for this season is reliable. My creative juices have been flowing. The next cohort of FLOW365 is ready to get going in late summer. The next version of the FLOW planner needs some love, attention and creativity, so it is ready to hit the market in September. It all feels so exciting… until I remember that there are 3 kids home all summer and trips that are already planned. So this is what I do. I am super clear about what I want to do workwise this summer, and what can wait until late August. I make choices in May instead of as I go in July. (If you are listening now, it’s not too late. Make the choices now that will guide the rest of your summer.) I do this by dividing a paper in two and writing — one half is summer work and the other is fall work. I draw arrows, cross things out, and let myself go until I know I have a plan. Sometimes I rewrite nicely. This summer there is work that really wants to make its way in the world, so I have built in lots of work hours. I tell everyone in my life in advance what to expect and what not to expect of me. I batch more than usual. I find the summer is way more about chunks of time vs. consistent daily tasks. This means it makes way more sense to create all social media posts one day and spend the next day creating 5 podcasts, so the next two days I can spend at the beach with my kids. It is really hard for my brain to start and stop creativity, so I try to test that as little as possible. I practice presence. When I am working, I want to be 100% looking for my amazing clients in the eye (on Zoom), not being asked to watch my daughter do her new and improved cartwheel. When I am with my kids, I want to be able to watch that cartwheel with every cell in my body and ignore the notifications coming from my phone. This is in part being clear with my family and knowing when I need to leave the house to work somewhere else so I am not distracted by kids. This is also in part leaving my phone on the charger or putting my computer in its case and fully engaging in the grass and energy of the kids running through it — knowing that there is work time scheduled in the not too distant future because it is on the calendar. I figure out two work retreats. I very much practice presence. I am far from perfect. Because I know this about myself, I have created a ritual that has my back. I schedule two weeks where all of my kids are out of the house, and I have the whole day and night to get done what I need to get done. Sometimes this means all the kids go off with my husband. Sometimes I divide them up between grandparents. Last year one went away to camp. It is a puzzle, but it is so important for my sanity and staying in business! I bring my journal everywhere. I shared two extremes to share my focus on practicing presence, but there are many in-between moments. I take the kids to the beach and my husband takes them all on a walk. I take the kids and friends for a swim at the pool, and they are hanging with their friends. In both scenarios, I may indulge in the swim or the walk, but I always have a journal or sketchbook in case inspiration hits. (My kids do too. Every summer I buy everyone a fresh summer notebook.)  This ensures that I am trusting my own creativity, they are trusting theirs, and we capture important ideas. This work always informs and helps the transition to more work in the fall. How are you going to make work work for you this summer? Grab a piece of paper and start jotting down what is for summer and what is for fall. Don’t worry about being messy or crossing things out and moving things around. Play with it until it feels good to you. Think about what your days look like? Are they the same as during the rest of the year? Do you work longer or more intense days to have more days off? Do you work for different hours? Set a boundary around work time. How will you be present when you are at work? How will you be present when you are “off”? Schedule a work retreat for yourself. Summer is here, my friends.  This is my favorite and the busiest time of the year.  When I lived in Arizona and was just a mom to one, I started a tradition.  Get your summer planner here: www.iammichellegifford.com/summerschedule Instagram: www.instagram.com/iammichellegifford My husband was in medical school and Arizona summers were HOT!  So, I packed up my car and took my baby to Utah for a whole month while my husband got in all the studying he needed to do.  This was a win-win for both of us.  He really didn't have time to hang out with us and I was so tired of being in 115 degrees. Since then, I have taken my kids away to Utah for the summer every year.  This month riding horses and playing on the ranch where I grew up is the month that we live for and dream about all year long.  But, just because I am scheduled to party this summer, doesn't mean that I won't be getting work done. I try very hard to balance time with my kids, having fun and getting work done so that my business keeps going and growing.  Because of this, I have created a system on how to create the perfect 8 hour work week for me.  This system gives me the flexibility and accountability I need to get my work done ahead of time and turn my business on autopilot when I need to. Before I jump in, let me tell you how this works.  I will not begin to guess what your summer looks like.  Some of my readers have little kids, some have older, some don't have kids at all.  This system is flexible.  It will help you make big decisions up front so that you can fit in work where it feels the best.  I've called it the 8 hour work week, but it can be more or less depending on how much time you are able to give.  So, I will be giving you an example of how I use it, but mix it up and do what works for you.

“If the shoe fits!” Today, we are joined by the St. Paul Curling Club’s manager, Scott Clasen. We are also joined by John Ordway / AKA Eric’s dad / AKA the-guy-with-the-wicked-northern-accent. We discuss the enormous amount of construction that’s going on over the summer (2:20); and have a conversation about cost-effective LED light bulbs (3:25). Learn about the annual chair project (4:47) and be sure to tell Scott if someone is abusing the chairs – he’ll be “PO’ed” and he will shame the culprit to the Tuesday work crew. Hear about how Eric’s family and his dad’s fake son Brian tied for first in the golf tournament and are trying to cheat their taxes with the money they won (13:45). We also talk about Tab Benoit’s blues music (16:50); Scott tells us about the US Curling Association’s Members’ Assembly (22:23); and John’s vision for an awesome real estate development project (18:16).

It’s time for summer trail maintenance on the North Country Trail (NCT). Andy and I maintain a section between 13 Mile road (Cleveland Drive) and 16 Mile Road in Newago County. The section also includes the side trail to Highbanks Lake Campground. All told the section is easily 6.5 miles long. This year we hoped to do a lot of re-blazing. Circumstances would rather dramatically affect our plans. Trail maintenance can be saticefying but it can be hard work too.  Learn more about the North Country Trail at their website northcountrytrail.org. Andy and I are part of the Western Michigan chapter. Get a visual sense of what things can be like from this short video on youtube (https://youtu.be/7iNYXnHSGnw)
