Ms. Marvel was reborn in the pages of Marvel comics almost a decade ago, when writers Sama Amanat, a Pakistani-American Muslim, and G. Willow Wilson, who converted to Islam in 2003, created Khamala Khan, a 16-year-old Pakastani-American from New Jersey who idolizes the previous Ms. Marvel, Carol Danvers, Khan's portrayal has drawn plenty of accolades and criticisms for its portrayal of an American Muslim youth. And, in recent years, criticism of representation of Islam in western popular culture has become far more focused, especially in the two decades since 9/11. In general, however, mass media continues to reduce Muslims to a good Muslim/bad Muslim binary, lacking any real depth or nuance. With Kamala's Ms. Marvel now joining the MCU with the Disney+ television adaptation of her story having just wrapped, John decided to ask Dr. Safiyya Hosein, who has written extensively about Kamala Khan and whose academic work covers the intersection of Islam, comics, and gender, among other things, to join him to talk about it. Feelrite uses its public relations machine to discredit Grace, but the plan backfires and Grace starts trending on Twitter with a group called #madscientists.  Kallie gets Percy out of her prison-like bedroom, and the girls escape for an innocent day of shopping, but Daphne wants Percy home for another youth-restoring blood transfusion, so she sends Andrew to find the girls and bring them back to the Mallard Mansion. Grace starts to worry when she can't reach Dr Anita Cheung. She and Laine head out to the Feelrite Laboratory, and discover the truth behind Fountain of Youth. Grace and Laine find a way into the Mallard Mansion to rescue Kallie. Daphne and Grace have a confrontation.

When Grace mentions the potential side-effects of FOY at a board meeting, she is suspended by her boss Daphne Mallard.  As Grace is frog-marched out of the Feelrite building by Chief of Security, Andrew Ellroy, a nearby bin suddenly explodes in flames. Did Grace make that happen? 

Still smarting from her suspension from work, Grace goes on a weekly ‘date night' with her husband, Mike. He tells Grace he is leaving her.  Grace gets no sympathy from her daughter, Kallie, who blames Grace for Mike's wandering eye. Crushed by everything that has happened,  Grace sees first-hand her new powers of invisibility. Shaken and confused, Grace calls her best friend, Laine, who comes over for moral support and a few rounds of tequila shooters. Kallie visits her friend, Persephone Mallard (Percy), and witnesses Percy being sedated and hooked up to a two-way blood transfusion with her mother.   

Grace and Laine go out to a karaoke bar to relive their past as rock and roll queens. Laine witnesses Grace's powers of invisibility and thermokenisis. Laine shows Grace that she can ‘borrow' or inhabit animals. They decide to tell no one. Doctor Anita Chung sneaks into the Feelrite lab to retrieve more evidence of the side-effects of Fountain of Youth.  As Anita uploads some videos to Grace, she hears a sound coming from a closed off area of the lab and decides to investigate. 

Kallie gets Percy out of her prison-like bedroom, and the girls escape for an innocent day of fun and shopping, but Daphne wants Percy home for another youth-restoring blood transfusion, so she sends Andrew to find the girls and bring them back. Following Grace's advice, Destiny goes to the Feelrite free health clinic truck in the park. She meets Nurse Felix who runs a few tests and gives Destiny a free wearable fitness watch. Now Felix can track her.  Grace can't reach Anita by phone and begins to worry about her. She enlists the help of Laine, and the two women head out to the Feelrite laboratory - the last place where Anita was when she sent a voicemail to Grace.  Grace and Laine enter an area of the lab that is “closed for asbestos removal.' 

Grace and Laine discover what Feelrite is doing  to source the stem cells needed to make Fountain of Youth.  Andrew, Daphne's security officer, finally catches up with Kallie and Percy at Mike's apartment and brings them back to the Mallard mansion and to Daphne. 

Grace gets a text from Kallie that she and Percy have been taken to the Mallard mansion. Grace and Laine use their powers to enter the Mallard mansion. Grace turns up the heat and Laine gets up to mischief.   Grace has an unexpected reunion with an old friend.

    Hello…kaiju…lovers…. The only reason this episode is long as it is because Nate's guest, Daniel DiManna (creator/author of the Godzilla Novelization Project) is the most talkative introvert ever of all time. But even if “Danny Boy” was Superman with a Beta Capsule, he couldn't save this week's Year of Gamera movie, the infamous Gamera: Super Monster. This 1980 cash-grab from a barely-alive Daiei Film is easily the Guardian of the Universe's lowest point. On paper, Nate should love this movie because it has three of his favorite things—spaceships, superheroes, and kaiju—but he doesn't. From public access channel special effects to a nonsensical plot with everything but the kitchen sink to the truckloads of stock footage—this must've been a plot by the Board of Directors to break Nate. Meanwhile, Danny keeps MIFV's intrepid producer, Jimmy From NASA, quiet by getting him to bet his Pteranodon-bot that he can't interrupt them during the broadcast. The Toku Topic, fittingly, is the rise and fall of Daiei Film, the studio that introduced the world to Akira Kurosawa and Gamera but dug itself into a financial hole it couldn't escape. It's a crazy story, to say the least. Before the broadcast, Nate and Jimmy are visited by the Board's executive assistant, Ms. Perkins. She tells Nate that she made arrangements for him to interview Spacewoman Kilara from Gamera: Super Monster on MIFV, much to his chagrin, and then fangirls over her. Her inspiration was by accident finding comic books under a cousins bed and being enamored with the way the characters were drawn. From that day forth, she made a life commitment to keeping her health and body equivalent to that chiseled from stone or drawn to perfection from a Superhero artist. She gives credit to Volleyball player, Gabrielle Reece, for empowering herself as a woman to embrace fitness at such a young age. Alicia Maria is an inspiration for all young girls, having overcome her own child traumas and unexpectedly losing the majority of her hearing when she was in her Twenties. She had to relearn how to speak and communicate after having Micro-Processors implanted in her brain. She is a real life walking Cyborg. On this episode of #ProofofLove, we invited Alice Hlidkova on to discuss the topics of surrogacy and freezing your eggs for future pregnancies. Freezing eggs is a rising trend and Alice who recently went through the procedure gives us some answers to our questions: What does it mean to freeze your eggs and what is the process? What is the average age for a woman to freeze her eggs and at what age do the chances of becoming pregnant go down? Do your genetics affect the likelihood of getting pregnant? We also discuss the topic of surrogacy and Alice through her research provides us with some answers to: The costs of surrogacy in the U.S. What the legal obligations are for being a surrogate The role of the surrogate mother in the child’s life She gives us some background into her new book, “Pretty Girl Complex: The Story of a Superheroine.” The book she describes is based on a conversation with a woman from the crypto space.  The character, Katie Washington is a Miami based dancer who becomes a parent before becoming a surrogate parent to a woman named Amy who couldn’t have a child due to her contracting HIV. Alice shares with us the driving force and motivation for her writing the story about the death of her stepmom at 36 of ovarian cancer who was unable to have children.  About the Guests: Alice Hlidkova is a futurist, startup coach, and technology consultant, who was raised in New York City. She is also an international media personality and speaker, who co-founded New Economies LTD to accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies, such as blockchain, fintech, and artificial intelligence through high-quality, educational video content. Alice completed a writing course at New York University. She received her Master's in Public Administration (MPA) from Carnegie Mellon University in 2017, where she helped launch several tech programs and the MetroLab Network Initiative to bring new technologies from labs to cities. As a freelance investigative journalist and entrepreneur, Alice has spent a decade writing articles on technology, business, culture, and women. In recent years, she ghostwrites for clients, with her latest work published in Forbes and Inc. magazines. Most notably, Osteria Morini, Calliope as well as Dirt Candy, an award-winning vegetable restaurant where she was the pastry chef. Daisy is a visual artist that has a unique scene of style and humor. She is a multimedia artist with a BFA in Art and a BA in African American and African Studies with a focus in literature from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Her work has a heavy focus on the woman and nature with themes of mindfulness, solitude, the passing of time, growth, patterns, and meditation, from a distinctly brown perspective. Daisy works from her home studio in Minneapolis where she lives with her musician/fitness instructor husband Logan U'u. Both are very accomplished and well educated in their respective fields.
