Josh opens the show discussing the latest on Iran following President Trump's comments that he held off on launching additional strikes because of progress in ongoing peace talks. Josh also breaks down the sudden reversal by two senators who have been holding up Todd Blanche's confirmation as Attorney General and what it means moving forward. Will Chamberlain of the Article III Project joins Josh to discuss the latest on Blanche's confirmation and where the process stands. The two also examine the Texas Senate race, the realistic chances of a Democrat pulling off an upset, and where Ken Paxton currently stands. They also discuss the future of the conflict with Iran, what comes next for Hamas, and the broader outlook for the Middle East. Josh wraps up the show by discussing the growing civil war within the Democratic Party between the DSA wing and more traditional Democrats. He explains why a key primary election on Tuesday could provide an important glimpse into the party's future.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Chuck Todd opens with the Iran war's arrival on American soil: hackers have hit water systems across multiple states in one of the most serious cyberattacks on U.S. water infrastructure in years and investigators probing an Iranian link. Trump's response tells you everything about the presidency in its current state — he didn't blame the attacker, he blamed the victim, using the hack as an occasion to attack Minnesota Democrats. Chuck’s question hangs over the whole segment: was Trump briefed on the Iranian connection and went after Minnesota anyway? Either way, the first instinct was to find a Democrat to blame, which Chuck calls a kind of polarization disease that leaves a president caring more about his narrative than about American citizens drinking the water. It fits a pattern the episode keeps circling: Jeanine Pirro presented false evidence to a grand jury blaming a former Olympian for damage to the White House reflecting pool, dropped the case when Interior produced documents proving otherwise, and Trump publicly disagreed with dropping it because he still insists it was vandals. Chuck argues negative information never reaches Trump, and people who bring him bad news don't last long — which is how you end up with a president insisting affordability is a Democratic scam Then, Chuck highlights a Wall Street Journal piece that lays out Trump's corruption — roughly $800 million raised through what amounts to an advertised pay-to-play scheme. Anti-corruption is a devastating midterm message sitting right there for Democrats to pick up… then Chuck Schumer rolled out a bill that Chuck calls a piece of garbage: it wouldn't even cover the conduct in the WSJ story, it's likely unconstitutional because it names individuals, and — most absurdly — it creates a new anti-corruption agency inside the executive branch, meaning a corrupt president would appoint its director and seven board members and, per the Supreme Court, could fire them at will. Congress can already do every bit of the oversight the agency would perform and Schumer's answer to executive corruption is to hand the executive more power and write Congress out of its own job. He closes on Michigan and Wisconsin as the clearest signals of where the Democratic Party is headed — Abdul El-Sayed running a movement inside a Senate race with the explicit goal of changing the party, DSA-endorsed Francesca Wong leading in Wisconsin while the establishment fails to coordinate against her — and on the DSA's new call to abolish the Senate, which Senate Democrats pushed back on without ever defending the institution. Chuck defends it himself: the Senate is a feature, not a bug, a brake on political extremism, and the right response to losing an argument is to win it rather than rewrite the rules. Then, Dr. Brian King — the former director of the FDA's Center for Tobacco Products, who was placed on administrative leave in April 2025 as part of the mass HHS layoffs joins the Chuck Toddcast to explain what happens to public health when the agency charged with protecting it gets deliberately dismantled. King walks through the extraordinary progress America made reducing cigarette smoking over decades, and how quickly that's being unwound: the tobacco industry donated millions to Trump's PAC, executives pressured the White House directly, and the payoff has been regulatory capture and mounting pressure on the FDA to bring flavored products back to market. He's clear-eyed rather than absolutist on the science — combustible products are far and away the most harmful, nicotine itself is highly addictive but isn't what's killing people, though it's genuinely not risk-free for the adolescent brain — and he walks Chuck through the comparison to caffeine, the data on whether vaping serves as a gateway back into smoking, and what's actually known about nicotine pouches, where youth usage isn't high but stubbornly isn't declining either. The industry, meanwhile, is spending roughly a million dollars an hour advertising its products while fighting every government action to reduce smoking. The conversation turns to what actually works and what's being abandoned. King argues the two most effective interventions available are reducing nicotine levels in cigarettes and banning menthol, credits Congress for getting the Tobacco Control Act right, and stresses that Congress — not the FDA acting alone — has to be the one to regulate tobacco, which is precisely why sidelining the agency is so damaging. He and Chuck get into the questions nobody in Washington wants to answer: why are cigarettes legal at all, how are sugary alcoholic beverages not treated in the same category, and where did the money from the 1998 master settlement actually go. King is pointed that the MAHA movement, for all its rhetoric about chronic disease, has done nothing prominent on tobacco, and that the FDA is now actively undermining both the science and the law it was built to enforce. His closing warning is the bleakest note of the episode: America is in a public health apocalypse that will take decades to repair, it will be enormously hard to recruit a next generation into the field, the entire world will be harmed by the collapse of American public health infrastructure — and the impacts are only just beginning to show up. Finally, Chuck hops into the ToddCast Time Machine to revisit Watergate and Richard Nixon’s resignation, and answers listeners’ questions in the “Ask Chuck” segment. Former NIAID Director Dr. Anthony Fauci faced an intense Senate hearing this week, invoking his Fifth Amendment rights more than 100 times during questioning on the COVID-19 pandemic. With Dr. Fauci now facing a potential contempt of Congress resolution, FOX News Chief Congressional Correspondent Chad Pergram joins The Rundown to recap the hearing, and explain why President Trump may withdraw Todd Blanche's nomination for Attorney General. Later, Director of the FOX News Decision Desk Arnon Mishkin explains why Texas Democratic Senate Candidate James Talarico is currently leading Ken Paxton in the polls, and whether he stands a chance of realizing the Democratic party's decades-long campaign to turn the lone star state blue. August 1, 2026, 8 AM; Interviews with dozens of people indicate"staggering fundraising and influence operation, with Trump at the center of it all," according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. Trump has raked in $800 million dollars since returning to office, including $50 million from Japan's Softbank for his presidential library, $25 million from Apple for the Ballroom project, and a $10 million donation from Microsoft. Former Senator Claire McCaskill and Kevin Frey join The Weekend to discuss the report. That reversal drew a sharp response. Senator Thom Tillis posted that despite Trump saying the fund was dead, he clearly intends to resurrect what Tillis called the payout pot, and that Blanche, whom Tillis considers qualified, likely will not be confirmed because of it. The Judiciary Committee vote is set for Tuesday, the same day as the Michigan Senate primary. Hawk makes his recurring point: Trump could have pardoned the January 6th defendants in his final two weeks in 2021 but did not, and now wants to compensate them. He also connects the dismissal of the reflecting pool case, where the DC US Attorney conceded a lack of evidence, to a broader argument about a Justice Department stumbling through high-profile cases. He notes Blanche can remain acting Attorney General even without confirmation. Hawk walks through the post line by line, noting that Trump could have pardoned those defendants during his final two weeks in office in 2021 but did not, and disputing Trump's characterization of the Mar-a-Lago search, which recovered classified documents under a lawful warrant. He argues this is why Cornyn and Thom Tillis want the fund and the related IRS provision killed in writing. The second half turns to the Michigan Senate primary. With Dr. Abdul El-Sayed leading Representative Haley Stevens by double digits days before Tuesday's vote, and a Detroit debate poll putting El-Sayed at 95 percent, Stevens posted a heated late-night message attacking her opponent. Hawk reads it as a candidate coming undone, argues the roughly 50 million dollars in AIPAC-affiliated spending behind her has not moved the race, and questions how that message wins over El-Sayed's voters in a general election. On Thursday's Mark Levin Show, Spain has seen a massive influx of over 80,000 illegal immigrants from Morocco and Northern Africa, with humanity as far as the eye can see breaking into the country while its socialist, radical leftist, anti-American and anti-Israel president does nothing. This mirrors the rapid destruction possible in a single government cycle, as occurred under Biden in America. Communists in the Democrat Party, Democratic Socialists of America and their allies oppose immigration enforcement and attack ICE precisely because they seek such open-border circumstances as a regular occurrence to replace the current citizenry with people from the Third World. This is revolution by immigration that will destroy the country; there is no discussion of assimilation or the true purpose of immigration. Americans must fight for our country by explaining its greatness and rejecting Marxism as totalitarianism and Islamism as contrary to civilization due to its embrace of murder, rape, and other evils. Also, a new Texas poll shows Republicans in trouble ahead of the midterms, with Democrat James Talarico leading Ken Paxton by five points in the Senate race and Governor Greg Abbott leading by only three points against Gina Hinojosa. Close races also appear in the attorney general contest and other key states. Republicans fail to effectively counter Democratic messaging on affordability despite improvements in gas prices, food costs, incomes, and inflation, while open borders and demographic shifts threaten long-term Republican prospects in Texas. Later, a Free Press piece details individuals around the President seeking to dissuade him from a more aggressive posture in the coming weeks that would significantly weaken or destroy the regime; such efforts amount to treachery that undermines the original reasons for involvement. President Trump should evaluate his advisers and rely on those who favor victory and reject isolationist or appeasement voices. It is time to arm and train the Iranian people with air and military support, and to capture or destroy Kharg Island—the regime's economic core—since eliminating its ability to fund the IRGC, army, police, and militias would create power struggles and collapse the police state, even after the elimination of dozens of top leaders. Finally, if the Isolationists had prevailed, Iran would already possess workable nuclear weapons. Trump has long recognized that Iran cannot obtain nukes, but isolationists claim he is manipulated by warmongers and RINOs; in reality, the isolationists themselves are the RINOs—a throwback to 1950s conservatism that Reagan rejected in favor of victory over the Soviet Union. Isolationists are stupid because they refuse to study the enemy, which seeks to wipe America off the earth, destroy its faiths, civilization, and Constitution alongside Marxists, and originates from Islamist regimes in the Middle East and places such as Pakistan. You’re listening to American Ground Radio with Stephen Parr and Louis R. Avallone. This is the full show for July 30, 2026. We open with the Texas Senate race — where Democratic nominee James Tallarico released a polished campaign ad called Waking Up, featuring him driving a full-sized Dodge Ram 1500 through Texas oil fields and farm country. There's one problem: it's not his truck. Tallarico drives a Chevrolet Colorado, but its tinted windows made the interior too dark for filming, so his campaign rented the Dodge from a local company. We make the distinction between normal campaign staging and renting a persona — because the entire ad was designed to sell Tallarico as a natural extension of working Texans, and the truck was the centerpiece of that message. We also note that Republicans handed Democrats an opening by nominating Ken Paxton — damaged goods with a messy personal and political record — instead of Wesley Hunt, who would have won this race by a landslide. Texas Republicans got this one wrong. In our Top 3 Things You Need to Know, President Trump's Attorney General nominee Todd Blanch is in limbo after John Cornyn and Thom Tillis signaled they would not support him in the Senate Judiciary Committee — concerned about a proposed fund to compensate victims of political prosecution under Biden, including January 6th defendants, even after Blanch testified under oath the deal was dead. Trump is reportedly considering withdrawing the nomination until both senators leave office in January. Then the federal government demanded Colorado repay $8 million in Medicaid funds after an audit found the state had billed for services totaling more than 24 hours in a single day for the same patients — a mathematical impossibility. Colorado disagrees with the findings. And thousands of military-age North African men breached the border between Morocco and Spain at Ceuta — overwhelming local law enforcement, with at least nine people killed in the chaos. Spain's Supreme Court recently ruled that sea arrivals cannot be deported without due process hearings. Most of Spain's borders are water. We also cover the WNBA's latest self-inflicted embarrassment — the league itself posted and then deleted a video from All-Star Weekend showing Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers and Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese apparently agreeing to a $400 bet on the outcome of a game between their own teams. The WNBA's own rulebook explicitly prohibits players from wagering on league games, with penalties ranging from fines to lifetime bans. We ask the obvious question: what are the odds that Angel Reese faces the same consequences Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham would face in the same situation? Our American Mamas Teri Netterville and Kimberly Burleson respond to a listener question about the growing number of rules new parents are imposing on grandparents before they can see a newborn — mandatory vaccinations, isolation periods, mask requirements, no kissing — and trace it directly to the damage Anthony Fauci did to medical credibility during COVID. A generation raised on social media sees the exception, not the rule, and draws sweeping conclusions from rare worst-case scenarios. Teri's advice: get the vaccines with 50-year safety records, do your research on the newer ones, and for the love of everything good — let grandparents kiss the babies. We dig into a J7 report — tracking antisemitic violence in the seven countries with the largest Jewish populations outside Israel — which found that 2025 was the deadliest year for antisemitic attacks in the Western world since 1994. There were 23,000 antisemitic attacks in those seven countries last year alone, including 20 murders of Jewish people motivated by hatred of Jews — three in the United States. We trace the rise to mainstream media coverage of Israel's response to October 7th that portrayed military action against a terrorist organization as genocide — providing ideological cover for people who were already antisemitic to act. We also connect it to the intersectionality framework that positions whoever appears most oppressed as the default sympathetic party — a framework that simultaneously claims to support women, gay people, and Palestinians, without reckoning with the fact that none of those three positions are compatible with each other under Hamas governance. For our first Bright Spot, President Trump announced that Middle East mediators — including Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey — have reached an agreement on the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, with a phased plan to rebuild Gaza, establish a new Palestinian government, and guarantee Israel's security. We call it what it is: not a ceasefire, not a pause, but a structured plan — and potentially the most significant Middle East development in a generation. For our second Bright Spot, the island nation of Micronesia — 75,000 people spread across 607 islands in the South Pacific — used to charge $65 per megabit per second per month for internet access because the government ran the only internet provider. When the government ended its monopoly and allowed private companies in — including Starlink — the price dropped 99% to 78 cents per megabit and internet access jumped from nearly nothing to 88% of the population. All they did was end the government monopoly. We connect it directly to New York City's government grocery store plan — and suggest Mamdani study Micronesia before he opens his first store. We also cover New York City bodegas allegedly allowing customers to use EBT food stamp cards to purchase kratom — an herbal extract not approved as food, a drug, or a dietary supplement — and potentially THC products. We call it what it is: SNAP trafficking, a federal crime that diverts money intended for nutrition into products that have nothing to do with nutrition. We also note that families of 9/11 victims are asking organizers of the 25th anniversary Ground Zero memorial to bar Mayor Mamdani from attending — citing his political positions, his anti-Semitic endorsements, and his statement during his campaign that the worst thing about 9/11 was that his aunt feared people were looking at her suspiciously. We say that day belongs to the families and to the fallen — and that Mamdani would be a distraction from both. And we close with 73-year-old Dave Whitlow of Richmond, Virginia — who has spent eight years volunteering twice a week at the Children's Hospital of Richmond as a professional cuddler of premature babies. On busy days he holds eight different babies, some weighing less than two pounds, giving them the human contact their developing systems need. As he places each one back into their NICU bed, he tells them the same thing: grow strong, grow smart, grow kind. May your pursuit of happiness bring you joy. In the midst of such an ugly timeline, here are a few rays of hope in American politics: Raphael Warnock's faith-informed brand of politics, James Talarico's clear contrast with Ken Paxton in Texas, Jon Ossoff's unmatched communication as he fights for reelection in Georgia, and Pete Buttigieg taking his case straight to Fox News. Pat Kahnke is joined by Adam Swenson to talk about the hopeful messages that are actually resonating with the American people — and why each of these matters right now.
Tonight on The Last Word: The Senate Judiciary Committee postpones Todd Blanche's confirmation vote. Also, James Talarico challenges Ken Paxton to three debates in the Texas Senate race. And Elon Musk is confronted over the death toll after USAID ended. Andrew Weissmann, Texas State Rep. James Talarico, and Dr. Atul Gawande join Lawrence O'Donnell. Despite reports from social media influencers, as of this morning, the Ken Paxton campaign has still not accepted times or terms for a debate with James Talarico. Texas has joined 11 other Republican-controlled states in a SCOTUS appeal for them to allow Donald Trump to place harsh new limits on mail-in voting. John Cornyn has helped stymie the confirmation of Todd Blanche, Trump's choice for U.S. Attorney General. A sweeping new ban on hemp products will take effect across Texas tomorrow. There’s a significant vulnerability for Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton: despite winning the GOP nomination, he continues to trail Democrat James Talarico badly in fundraising. Plus, a brand new edition of, “Stranger Trades” involving a whacky baseball game ending and Dr. Anthony Fauci.

David Waldman helps haul in Greg Dworkin's usual Raft O' Stories™, which was light on primaries, but had Plenty O' Polls™! More people like Donald K. Trump less than ever! The fact is, most Americans don't approve of awful people. Most Democrats are not awful people, so this might work in their favor for the midterms, if they can fight their natural urge to disarray. The 2028 Democratic primary calendar favors progressives. Progressives are turning away from establishment media. Democratic voters are turning away from establishment candidates. Francesca Hong seems nice, and smart, and progressive, which seems like a good combo this year. James Talarico is all of those things, plus a few more, and Ken Paxton is none of them. Troy Jackson has, well, a couple of those attributes, which might just be enough. Abdul El-Sayed does not have Troy Jackson's nor James Talarico's name. Ohio does not have all of its marbles, but who knows this year… Everybody is NIMBYing away from data centers, so Trump will probably mandate them for blue states. Trump wants his Supreme Court to overturn his E. Jean Carroll settlement, as it says right in the Constitution that presidents cannot lose lawsuits. Trump has been too busy presidentially thumbing through material swatches for his Dulles International Airport makeover, which just might be the best use of his time.
On Tuesday, officials announced indictments against six men and two women in connection with an ongoing investigation at an adult novelty store in northwest Dallas. In other news, former Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was issued a citation Monday for refusing to take a test for intoxication, stemming from his arrest in Wisconsin last Thursday; Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is launching an investigation into feminine products and various cosmetics related to toxic chemicals; and American Airlines flight operations were recovering Tuesday evening after an IT outage forced the airline to briefly ground all of its flights. An AP article argues that the biggest question in the Texas Senate race is whether James Talarico can succeed where many others failed. Previous opponents repeatedly attacked Ken Paxton over ethics and corruption allegations, but he kept winning. Talarico is betting that tying those controversies to voters' day-to-day frustrations will finally make the issue politically decisive in one of America's most important Senate races. Heritage Foundation government-relations director Chris Wingate was arrested after Senate security personnel discovered a loaded 9mm pistol magazine in his briefcase while entering the Russell Senate Office Building. A later search reportedly uncovered pills and capsules, including a substance that allegedly tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl, leading to a drug-possession charge. Governor Greg Abbott has pivoted his campaign rhetoric to a call for limits on data centers - but he fails to use the power he has right now to do anything to slow their explosive spread. Meanwhile, Ken Paxton is desperately fundraising outside the state as James Talarico out-raises him 3 to 1 at home - Paxton is apparently doing all he can to avoid a live debate.KXAN Austin: https://www.kxan.com/news/data-center-debate-grows-across-texas-as-leaders-push-for-more-oversight/Tom's Hardware: https://www.tomshardware.com/tech-industry/data-centers/bnef-nearly-doubles-its-us-data-center-power-forecast-to-194gwSan Antonio Current: https://www.sacurrent.com/news/san-antonio-news/ken-paxton-receives-unwelcome-surprise-at-washington-d-c-fundraiser/Texas Standard: https://texasstandard.org/stories/cornyn-donors-paxton-senate-race-talarico-fundraising/This election year, you can support the real free press by investing in pro-democracy, pro-justice, pro-gressive storytelling. After Tuesday's disastrous press conference, from which Ken Paxton fled even basic questions from the press amidst the skirts of his handler - how on Earth does he expect to face equally insistent moderators, across a stage from James Talarico, before a huge live and televised audience, at a Senatorial debate? New York's socialist mayor just completely folded on his big promise to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu. You need to see this before the media spins it away. Zohran Mamdani spent days threatening to lock up Netanyahu over the ICC warrant if he visits NYC. Now he admits in a video that the city has zero legal authority to do it. He still calls him a war criminal and says he's “not welcome,” while begging the feds to join the ICC and arrest him. Trump already shut that down. This is classic performative politics from a progressive mayor who knows the law and that America never joined the ICC. Blue-city leaders treat a key ally like a criminal while ignoring real threats. Loud threats, empty follow-through, and selective “international law” aimed only at Israel. Pat also covered: Day 38: Senator Mitch McConnell continues to be missing from the Senate. Pistol Pete testifying on exactly how much money we spent in Iran. Thanks to Trump, Americans can now travel to Lebanon. Marco Rubio: Trump is NOT playing games with Iran. Why is Ken Paxton not answering questions? Does Mamdani's walk-back prove these threats were always just theater? How much longer are Americans supposed to take this kind of unserious anti-Israel grandstanding from big-city mayors?
