Schneider Electric, the leader in digital transformation of energy management and automation, has announced the launch of its Schneider Electric Training programme in the UK and Ireland (UK&I). Schneider Electric's vision in the UK&I is to create a best-in-class approach to training, unifying specialist academies, courses, and digital campuses into a holistic offering - Schneider Electric Training. The move is in response to the chronic skills gap in engineering and the vital role that training plays in addressing the growing complexities associated with digital transformation. The extensive programme covers everything from AI, the automation of machinery and equipment, to innovations in power and energy management, and safety standards and regulations. Schneider Electric Training will provide customers, partners, and engineers with a single point of access to the vast array of training options and resources available, covering Schneider Electric solutions, industry focused courses, and professional accreditations. It will be delivered via several specialist academies for in-person courses and a digital campus offering on-demand courses for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) via the mySchneider portal. Two academies are already up and running, with three more due to be launched by the end of the year. The Safety Academy in Telford offers a range of Schneider Electric and?professional training courses to ensure the safe operation of electrical equipment and site safety, including Competent Person certification and City & Guilds assured Authorised Person training. The Automation Academy in Coventry offers a comprehensive curriculum covering Schneider Electric's automation portfolio. It is designed to take students from basic product understanding through to advanced programming of both legacy and current technology, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Variable Speed Drives (VSD), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI), Motion Control and Robotics. "Organisations are becoming more dependent on their electrical backbone to support operations, digital transformation, automation, and manufacturing. Electrical engineers and their specialist expertise are critical to the installation, safety, and maintenance of this electrical infrastructure," said David Pownall, VP Services at Schneider Electric UK and Ireland.?? "There is an urgent need to build skills to embrace new technologies, drive modernisation, improve performance, reduce downtime, and comply with changing safety regulations. Not only that, but training is critical to career enhancement and a key foundation of a positive employee experience, attracting and retaining people when we're facing a significant skills gap crisis," he added. "Smarter engineers, equipped with the skills needed today and a clear development path to build expertise for the future, make for smarter businesses," he concluded. See more stories here.
It's hoped the renewal of an industry approved training course in West Clare will allow locals to secure skilled employment in the offshore wind sector. It comes as ESB has decided to fund its Marine Mammal Observer Training Programme in Kilrush for a second year. The programme will have five vacancies for undergraduate or post-graduate students studying marine science and related disciplines, with the deadline for applications set for July 31st. ESB Ecologist and Marine Mammal Specialist Niru Dorrian says its vital communities to benefit from offshore wind can secure important jobs in the industry.
ESB has announced plans to fund its Marine Mammal Observer (MMO) training programme for a second year. The programme is open to graduates, final-year undergraduates and postgraduate students who are studying or working in the area of marine science or related disciplines. In 2023, five participants successfully completed the programme and availed of industry-approved training courses and medicals which were also funded through the initiative. A key objective of the programme is to assist in developing marine ecology education and skills to support successful applicants at the early stages of their careers in the marine environmental profession. An additional key aim is to fill a gap in the Irish offshore wind industry's local supply chain due to a lack of locally-based MMOs on the island of Ireland. ESB will award up to five places on the MMO training programme again this year. All applicants must be available to participate in person for training at Kilrush, Co Clare, in September. Application forms can be requested from ESB via mmotraining@esb.ie. The deadline for submissions is Wednesday, 31st July. ESB Offshore Ecology Team said: "The ESB Marine Mammal Observer Training Programme, launched in 2023, represented a significant milestone. We are delighted to be able to support the programme again this year to help promote the MMO role in Ireland by nurturing local talent - initiatives like this are essential in facilitating the delivery of ESB's Net Zero targets by 2040. Our funding will provide opportunities to enhance skilled work readiness and will build on our collaboration with partners such as the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group as Ireland ramps up delivery of renewable energy. At the heart of this programme is the inspiration and support of young professionals seeking fulfilling careers in marine ecology and sustainable energy". Simon Berrow, Chief Executive Officer of the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, said: "Over the last 30 years, the IWDG has been at the forefront of whale and dolphin conservation in Irish waters. Now, with increasing pressures on our seas, especially the coastal zone, there is more demand than ever for trained and experienced marine mammal mitigation experts. The IWDG is delighted to be continuing this collaboration with ESB in providing pathways to joining the offshore industry in an environmental capacity, working to ensure the safeguarding of marine mammals in Irish waters". Ashleigh Kitchiner, Chair of the Marine Mammal Observer Association, commented: "We are delighted to be supporting this programme for a second time after the success of the first programme. Our mission is to work with newly qualified MMOs and PAM operators, amongst experienced professionals and relevant stakeholders, to improve the profession's effectiveness. The MMO Training Programme provides the platform to do just that, as investing in mitigation professionals is vital for the growth and sustainability of this industry". Chris Goldsworthy, Chief Executive of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology, added: "The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology is delighted to endorse the MMO Training Programme for a second successive year. It is vital that we encourage and provide the necessary support to inspire young people into rewarding careers within the marine industry - this programme provides valuable resources and fantastic offshore experience, which will be a great benefit for those participating". In addition to the MMO training aspect, the costs associated with the delivery of the necessary industry-approved training courses and medicals will also be funded with the aim of ensuring all trainees are up to the standard level of competency for offshore work. These courses include Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET), United Kingdom's Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) MMO training with Irish Guideline certifications, and Offshore Energies U.K (OEUK) appr...

University College Dublin (UCD) today announced that applications are now open for a new food and agriculture innovation and entrepreneurship training programme, commencing this September, to be delivered by the University in partnership with Teagasc. There are only fifteen (15) places available on the 12-month, in-person Food and Agriculture Sustainable Technology Innovation Programme (FAST-IP), which is aimed at mid-career professionals. FAST-IP will provide participants with a €38,000 tax-free scholarship during the programme. The goal of FAST-IP is to further enhance innovation in the food and agricultural sector by providing programme participants with the necessary skills to evaluate, select and validate ideas for new products and services and to accelerate the commercialisation pathway. FAST-IP will use design-thinking methodologies and will have a practical focus. Through the programme, participants will learn how to conduct needs-led innovation to develop market-validated solutions to unmet needs in the areas of agricultural technology and food sustainability sectors. Participants will also spend 8-10 weeks immersed in agricultural environments including farms and food processing companies throughout the year long programme. FAST-IP is accredited by UCD at Level 9 on the National Qualifications Framework and participants who complete the programme will be awarded a Graduate Diploma in Agricultural Innovation and Entrepreneurship. FAST-IP will be delivered by the UCD School of Biosystems and Food Engineering, in partnership with Teagasc, at the newly opened AgTechUCD Innovation Centre at UCD Lyons Farm in Co. Kildare. Professor Nick Holden, Professor of Biosystems Engineering in the UCD School of Biosystems and Food Engineering, is the Academic Director of the Graduate Diploma Programme. Gary Ryan, Director, AgTechUCD, said, "The success of FAST-IP will depend to a great extent on attracting the right mix of high calibre individuals to the programme. FAST-IP is designed to cater for mid-career individuals who have accumulated significant professional experience to date and who are now interested in pivoting towards an entrepreneurial journey based on the development of an innovative technology that will support sustainable practices in the agricultural and food sectors. A fundamental underpinning of the programme is that participants will come to it with an open mind as to potential innovations and without any preconceived biases towards an existing idea that they might like to explore. The programme is based around discovering real world needs through exposure to industry environments in the agfood supply chain and bringing innovative solutions to bear on such needs in a commercially viable manner." He added, "I would encourage anybody meeting the programme criteria and with an interest in building a business that will deliver innovative solutions in support of sustainable agri and food sectors to engage with the process as early as possible. Interest is already high and is likely to build even further in the coming weeks." Dr Siobhán Jordan, Head of Technology Transfer and Commercialisation, Teagasc, said, "Enhancing entrepreneurship and innovation in the food and agricultural sector to deliver impacts nationally and globally requires multi-disciplinary approaches from engineering to marketing from food science to ICT. The FAST-IP programme delivered by UCD and Teagasc will enable participants to deliver new solutions for the longer term sustainability of the agri-food sector." UCD and Teagasc, with strong reputations for academic and research excellence in the areas of Sustainable Food Systems, Agriculture, and Food Science, will utilise their extensive networks, connections, domain expertise, entrepreneurial experience, and track-record for supporting, fostering and spinning out start-ups over the next 6 years of the programme. The AgTechUCD Innovation Centre, which is part of NovaUCD, is focused on promoting an...

It's claimed a new course to be launched in West Clare will solidify the region as a stronghold for offshore wind energy. The ESB is set to fund a Marine Mammal Observer training programme in Kilrush from November which will aim to bring successful applicants up to the required standard for offshore works. In June, the utility and Danish firm Orsted signed an agreement to develop two wind farms off the Moneypoint coast which will be capable of harnessing 1.4 GW (Gigga-watts) of renewable energy. Cathaoirleach of the West Clare Municipal District and Kilrush Independent Councillor Ian Lynch believes the new initiative shows a clear commitment to advancing local projects.

In today's episode, I'll be covering the common mistakes I see female entrepreneurs making all the time regarding how they price and sell their offers. I cover the common mistakes including... ✅ Pricing based on time - e.g. day rate / hourly rates and figuring out your price based on time (service) or based on cost/profit (product) ✅ Focusing on selling the 'thing' rather than solving the problem or creating the result - and creating an offer which helps the most 'affordably' or 'quickly' rather than BEST! ✅ The belief that low ticket is easier to sell, when the stats tell us differently - people are purchasing with more INTENTION than ever before, so **value** will win over **price** every single time. ✅ Focusing on HOW to sell what you have, rather than WHAT it is you're actually selling. So if you feel like you're struggling to price your thing, or feeling icky about putting your prices up even though your aim is to design your time out of your business, then this is the episode for you. June 20th is World Refugee Day I am so lucky and privileged to live in a country that is not threatened by war. My children are safe, have access to good education and have their human rights supported and protected. Not everyone is so lucky. Many people in the world live under the daily threat of war, violence or poverty. When home is no longer safe, many people make the impossible decision to risk their family's lives by seeking refugee abroad. Some of them make it, many don't. Just this week, hundreds of people lost their lives when the boat they were travelling in sank: "All the women died, drowned, with their children in their arms". I recorded this conversation with Caoimhe Butterly a few months ago as part of the Shapes Of Grief online Training Programme. I also want to make it freely available as a podcast episode, so that it can be spread far and wide. If you have refugees living in your community, are you helping them to find the safety, refuge and kindness that they deserve? I'm not one to quote Jesus, but there's a first time for everything, right? this quote, feels especially apt "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".
