Best known for his figurative paintings and pastels, which evoke a luminous, dreamlike reality, TM Davy conjures intimate worlds where figures glow with an almost metaphysical presence, transcending the purely visual. Light and form take on an ethereal quality, reflecting emotions, memories, and the quiet subtleties of human experience. Every brushstroke, every shift of light, seems imbued with a deeper resonance — suggesting that the figures portrayed are not mere representations but vessels of something otherworldly, carrying with them the weight of untold stories and silent truths.Blending careful realism with archetypal symbolism, Davy's work explores love as a sphere of magic and protection — a space where human connection is not just physical, but transcendent; where bonds are forged in realms of the spiritual and the unseen. His figures often seem suspended in a state of grace, bathed in light that is both gentle and intense, creating an atmosphere of reverence and awe. His work suggests that love, in its purest form, is both a force of transformation and a quiet shield — invisible, radiant, and profound.Grounded in the belief that all of art history informs the present, Davy's technique is marked by a virtuosic layering of colour and a masterful use of light and shadow. His attention to texture and hue draws deeply from classical tradition, while his handling of paint — confident, gestural, at times joyously loose — is unmistakably contemporary. With a lineage that stretches from Reynolds to Turner, Davy takes us to a threshold where intimacy, mystery, and the inner self converge. He stands at the intersection of classical technique and modern sensibility, drawing on the rich tradition of portraiture to create images that feel at once ancient and immediate. Through his luminous compositions, he invites us to pause and reflect — to step into a space where the boundaries between the real and the imagined dissolve, and where the soul's journey is lit by love, presence, and the quiet mysteries of being.Over the past few months, Davy has been living and working in Margate, creating an exhibition deeply attuned to its elemental surroundings. Rooted in the present moment, yet echoing timeless myth, the works are shaped by the sea, the chalk cliffs, and the ancient caves that punctuate the coast. These landscapes are not just scenery but portals, inhabited by archetypal beings — Satyrs, Mermaids, White Horses — who rise from seafoam and shadow, conjured from deep cultural memory as much as from the terrain itself. The show is at once an homage to place and a meditation on the mythic — a bridge between the ancient and the now.Davy has the rare ability to render his subjects and scenes with an acute physical presence — they feel almost touchable, real — all the while keeping us fully aware that these are just paintings. He revels in paint's materiality, with areas of sumptuous brushwork, loose rhythms, and a heightened palette that amplifies the intensity and luminosity of the image. His approach knowingly risks oversentimentality in the pursuit of a higher realm of expression: an emotional frequency that calls us to remain in the present, to feel fully, and to glimpse — even momentarily — the shared magic of human connection.Follow @TMDavy on Instagram.TM Davy's Tine Mara runs from 27th April until 22nd June 2025.Preview is Saturday 26th April 6-8pm, Carl Freedman Gallery, Margate, UK.Visit @CarlFreedmanGallery and https://carlfreedman.com/exhibition/tm-davy/ Hosted on Acast. Dr. B. R. Lakin preached a message entitled, "Two White Horses." We hope you enjoy this classic sermon from a great preacher of the past. Visit classics.preachthebible.org for more gospel messages.
Wiltshire has more chalk hill figures than any other county in the UK, with no fewer than eight white horses carved into its rolling hills. They're all slightly different, and were carved into the hillsides at different times, often to mark an important occasion such as the coronation of Queen Victoria. In this programme, Helen Mark visits some of them - from the oldest and probably best-known one at Westbury, to the much smaller and less prominent horse at Broad Town near Swindon. She finds out about their history and significance, and asks why they became so popular in the 18th and 19th centuries. The tradition continues into the present-day, with the most recent horse, at Devizes, created in 1999 to mark the Millennium. The white horses are a key feature of the Wiltshire landscape, and have become an unofficial emblem of the county. The horses have to be regularly maintained. Left unattended, they would gradually revert to nature, become overgrown with weeds and lichen and simply disappear. In Broad Town, Helen meets up with a team of volunteers who are spending their Sunday morning perched on a steep hillside, weeding and putting fresh lime powder onto their horse, to keep it white and visible. As well as its horses, Wiltshire is also home to carvings with a military connection - in the shape of regimental badges and insignia. There's also a map of Australia, a YMCA logo, and even a giant kiwi. Helen visits some of the military carvings at Fovant near Salisbury, and finds out how they were created by soldiers stationed at training camps in the area during the First World War. She discovers that they're still important to the county today, more than a century on.Produced by Emma Campbell

The hill figures of southern England are enigmatic artworks, standing out with their stark white lines against the green grass of their home slopes. They're mostly found on chalk hills, where the chalk provides the white outlines. Countless figures have been lost. Yet four in particular remain famous even now, while a fifth is famous precisely since it no longer exists. Folklore naturally accrues to these figures as people seek to explain their presence in the landscape. Let's find out what kind of folklore is attached to these hill figures in this week's episode of Fabulous Folklore. This week, Jared Oaks, Ballet West Music Director, shares his coming out journey. Jared has also shared a composition which you will hear at the end of the episode. From Jared:A Place of MirrorsIII. White Horses of the ShamansRebecca Moench, violinJared Oaks, pianoThe music for my short ballet, A Place of Mirrors is inspired by shamanic tradition, traditional shamanic mirrors, and the idea of reflection. This final movement, “White Horses of the Shamans,” is inspired by Walther Heissig's 1944 account of a female shaman, who indicated that the mirrors are a vehicle for the shamans. The music is somewhat unified by use of a tone row consisting of 10 pitches, which are played in various ways, such as retrograde, inversion, etc. These ideas came about as a result of my friendship and discussions with dancer and choreographer David Arce. The piece was commissioned by Debra Pearse Rogo, director of Mid-Columbia Ballet.

Roland Ladley and I were at six form school together, The Army's Welbeck college, and then met again later, a number of times, including two years at the British Army Staff College, where he was one of the many bright minds that I served alongside. After a successful army career Roland left aged 44 and went into teaching where he quickly became a deputy head. Now he runs a compassionate leadership consultancy, as well as writing some cracking books called the Sam Green series where Sam, the heroine find herself in some amazing scrapes and highlights the problems for people on the autism spectrum with ADHD and how she finds ways of overcoming that while fighting criminals and evil dark organisations. From the comfort of his caravan that he travels around Europe in, we discuss what compassionate leadership means, and share some of his views, experiences and life stories, which are fascinating to hear.On Amazon his review says:Roland Ladley's detailed, but flowing narrative has been compared favourably to Le Carré and Deighton; Sam Green, his ‘flawed but resolute' protagonist, to a female Jack Reacher – ‘only more edgy and much more prone to tears.' His second spy thriller in the Sam Green series, Fuelling the Fire, won a publishing contract with Kindle Scout and went on to become a best-seller in its genre. His other six books in the series, Unsuspecting Hero, The Innocence of Trust, For Good Men to Do Nothing, On The Back Foot To Hell, Blood Red Earth and The Belmonte Paradox, have been equally well reviewed in both the UK and the US.If espionage is your bag – and you're after realistic, up-to-date conspiracy thrillers with a strong female lead – then the Sam Green series is waiting for you. Or, if you're after a softer, female-led action adventure try of Black Bulls and White Horses, Roland Ladley's first non-Sam Green novel, written during the first covid_19 lockdown. Here teacher Emily Copeland follows her mother's past to the lawless Camargue region of France. Love … and death followTo bring realism to his writing Roland Ladley draws upon twenty-five years military service, including complex tours of Bosnia, Afghanistan and Sierra Leone. Subsequent work as a teacher enables him to communicate lucidly to a wide audience, and two grown-up daughters ensure he can laugh at himself and find comic moments in his writing when the tension is at its greatest. Now a full time writer based in Bristol, UK, he lives an itinerant lifestyle with his wife in their motorhome, posting a travel/writing blog and marketing his six Sam Green novels. With the books' cinematic style, it's not surprising that the first, Unsuspecting Hero, has been turned into a mini-series screenplay and is being considered by a well-known British director.Find him via his blog: the.wanderlings. She sparked disbelief and much-needed dialogue around the outdoor industry and beyond with a silent, shocking run at the Boston Marathon. Presented by A bright-red handprint covered Jordan Daniel’s mouth across all 26.2 miles of the 2019 Boston Marathon. It was blunt, unnerving, and impossible to ignore. In the days that followed, the meaning behind the letters painted on her arm, “MMIW,” in the same red paint became clear: missing and murdered Indigenous women. Daniel has since become a leader and icon in the push to raise awareness of the women and relatives who go missing on reservations. Why does it happen? Why isn’t it reported? What can we all do? On May 5, you can join her in a virtual run to further raise awareness of this epidemic. Read more… Daniel makes difficult conversations about race, injustice, and ingrained disinformation simpler, less combustible, and more matter-of-fact. In this episode, she leads us through what it means to “dismantle supremacy,” something that may be as difficult to recognize as it is to unlearn. But progress happens in these conversations. Understanding is the first step. It’s a humbling conversation, but one that enables change, respect, and empowerment.

I'm delighted to be joined by musician, singer, songwriter, composer, and record producer - Rod Argent. In a career spanning more than 50 years, Rod is the keyboardist, founder and leader of the English rock band The Zombies. Their second album Odessey and Oracle is often mentioned by Paul Weller as his all time favourite. Rod has had an incredible career - continuing to perform live and release new music with The Zombies - he was also once part of Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band and has recorded with The Who, Chris Rea, Roger Daltrey, Paul Carrack and Andrew Lloyd Webber. He's also been producer for the likes of Gilbert O'Sullivan, Tanita Tikaram and Nanci Griffith. In 2018, Paul Weller released his 14th solo album True Meanings, with Rod Argent contributing to two stand out tracks (on an album full of stand out tracks!) - he plays Hammond organ on The Soul Searchers and Mellotron & Piano on White Horses. Dr. B. R. Lakin was born January 5th 1901, on a farm near Fort Gay, West Virginia, on the Kentucky border. His mother had prayed for a "preacher man" and had dedicated him to God even before he was born. Dr. Lakin was a Bible preacher that was faithful to the Lord in his life and in his preaching till he died March 15, 1984. By his own testimony, he now is experiencing Heaven first hand. Dr. Lakin's preaching has been described as "a combination of wit, Bible teaching, and a strong Gospel appeal. For instance, his advice about dealing with enemies was "Love them, pray for them, and outlive them." I pray that you are on your way to heaven, and if not, that this message will bring you to Jesus as your Saviour! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/thebiblepreacher/message
This is a conversation with Jordan Marie Brings Three White Horses Daniel. She is a fourth-generation runner and is known for her advocacy work, where she represents the rights of women and Indigenous people - and more broadly she is passionately committed to anti-racism work. She has founded a grassroots organisation called Rising Hearts Coalition, that defends Native rights, organises rallies, produces documentary films and marches for social justice and environmental issues. In 2019 she received global attention and visibility for the epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls (MMIWG) through her platform of running.. During the 2019 Boston marathon she dedicated her run to 26 Indigenous women - she painted a red hand print on her face, spelt let the letters MMIW on her legs and each mile she recited one of their names and made a prayer for them. Not exclusively, this conversation explores her journey into activism: as a lobbyist, on a grassroots platform and through the vehicle of running. You will hear Jordan's journey to this point, the emotional and physical toll she has experienced and how she is learning to support & sustain herself for the long run.
