BULLETIN: SEASON 2 EPISODE 125: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:40) BULLETIN: Russia's most vital and most vociferous opponent of Vladimir Putin and his dictatorship and international terrorism, Alexei Navalny, has died at a prison near the Arctic Circle. Putin killed him. Trump helped. The Republican Party helped. By coincidence, Navalny's wife - now his widow - was speaking at the Munich Security Conference this morning, as was Vice President Kamala Harris. Both of them spoke. The Vice President stated bluntly "Russia did this." Mrs. Navalny said she believed the day would come sooner than Putin would be punished for what he did, and urged world leaders to hasten that day. Putin invaded Ukraine - again - a year and one week ago, next Saturday. His useful idiots in this country, from Trump to Marjorie Greene to Tucker Carlson, must be held responsible. And the President must fulfill his 2021 warning to Putin that if Navalny died, the consequences to Russia would be terrible. They must start with the transfer of the $300,000,000,000 in Russian assets seized after the attack on Ukraine, to the Ukrainian government. We must spend Putin's money to destroy him. (The rest of this bulletin is a repeat of Friday's regular edition of Countdown) (14:00) SPECIAL COMMENT: The Stormy Daniels Trump Trial will start as scheduled on March 25. The attempt to derail the Georgia 11,780 Votes Trial is bloodied but unbowed when the witness claiming the DA is lying about her relationship can't remember when she found out or who told her, and is a disgruntled ex-employee. The fine in the Trump Financial Fraud Trial should come today. And that ISN'T the Trump legal headline. The meticulous Trump really screwed up last night and posed for a series of photos that defied the first thing all lawyers tell all clients: Whatever you do, DON'T LOOK GUILTY. He not only looks guilty in these shots, he looks like he's already imprisoned. Plus the Comer/Grassley/Hannity "case" against the Bidens hits a slight bump (the "whistleblower" was just indicted for lying to the FBI - he made it all up) and Robert Hur's "Biden Age Plot" has two new conspirators, and shockingly enough they're both - just like Hur - Trump appointees. B-Block (38:47) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: What could bring the ever-warring world of baseball together in one quest? Nike. Fans, players, writers, jersey wonks, all agree: new uniforms it's made for 2024 suck. So, of course, does Marjorie Taylor Greene and after that hearing yesterday nobody knows that better than she does. And the mild, modest Associated Press produces the worst Bothsidesist headline of the month. C-block (45:00) FRIDAYS WITH THURBER: Back to the beginnings. Back to the story I heard William Windom recite in 1977 and hoped someday I could emulate him. Thurber's impeccable story of madness just beneath the surface: "A Box To Hide In."See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

TOLD YOU SO! "The Jones Phone" goes to the 1/6 Committee. Alex Jones' attorney was unable to convince the judge in the Sandy Hook trial to walk back the legal team's dramatic dunderheadedness in sending a copy of all of Jones' texts since 2019 to the opposing counsel. Thus, he said, he would turn over that copy to the House January 6th Committee "Immediately." We know there are "intimate messages" between Jones and Roger Stone, but how else will Jones incriminate himself after having taken the 5th nearly 100 times during his testimony before it? But the man who may be covering up missing texts from Secret Service and Homeland Security is being inexplicably protected by President Biden. And more inexplicable still, Dick Cheney, who once called me out by name at a Washington Correspondents' Dinner, issued a two-minute video blasting Trump - and he and I are now completely synched. Meantime my ex-date Kyrsten Sinema has finally consented to the Climate/Inflation bill, and the Cretins of CPAC have roared at the antisemitic dog whistles from their keynote speaker, the strongman of Hungary - and Tucker Carlson just echoed them. There's an extraordinary story from Washington as a city says goodbye to its "Good Morning Man," and another DC question from sports: if the Russians are going to hold Brittney Greiner hostage, why are we letting Putin's buddy and propagandist Alex Ovechkin play for hockey's Washington Capitals? The oddest of couples, Sarah Palin and I, reappear in Worst Persons. And resurrecting a Friday tradition from TV as part of the Friday/Weekend edition of the podcast, I'll read you some of the timeless works of America's greatest humorist, James Thurber. And I'll let the brilliance of musical directors Brian Ray and John Phillip Shenale shine without me talking over it, all on this edition of the Countdown podcast.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Chris and I get things going as we discuss the Rhode Island ComiCon 2021, recent Pop Culture News, and present an interview with an amazing woman who chats about her fascination with a beloved character actor! One thing we love on this show are character actors. These are the guys or gals whose face you recognize, but their names you can't remember! You sometimes see one and say, “I know that guy! I've seen him before a thousand times!” These are the actors who aren't the main star, but rather are in a supporting role which is often eccentric and or memorable! Sometimes a character actor can even steal the show and upstage the main actor or actress! It is uncommon for a journeyman actor to also be a star, but the topic of our show today is a man who was both! William Windom, who is sadly no longer with us, has been paid tribute by an exceptional woman named Jenna Frisby who is a huge fan of William, and owns The William Windom Tribute website. She has amassed a vast collection of Windom's appearances, who was well known for performances on Star Trek, the Twilight Zone, Night Gallery, and Murder, She Wrote among others. And Jenna is also working on a set of documentaries about him. Join us for a fascinating dive into an exceptional actor! Every week on The Twilight Zone Zone,we go down Donald Liebenson's list The 26 Episodes We Talk About When We Talk About The Twilight Zone from Vanity Fair, chronologically by release date and compare two episodes and choose which one to recommend. This week we watched “Five Characters in Search of an Exit” and “Nothing in the Dark.” “Five Characters in Search of an Exit” The setup is a little bit Saw and a little bit Waiting for Godot: an Army major (William Windom) finds himself in a circular enclosure with no doors, no windows, and no ceiling. He has no idea who he is or how he got there. And he's not alone; present, but more resigned to their situations, are a clown, a ballerina, a hobo, and a bagpiper. This episode gives new meaning to the eternal question, “Why are we here?” Your mileage may vary as to the ultimate answer, but the questions posed (“How long will we be here?” “What's up there?”) are profound in or out of The Twilight Zone. “Nothing in the Dark” Many actors got their start on the Zone—none more famously than Robert Redford, who appears here as a policeman who is shot outside of the door of an elderly woman who refuses to leave her condemned apartment for fear of being taken by “Mr. Death.” For more before-they-were-big moments, see Robert Duvall in “Miniature,” Burt Reynolds in “The Bard,” and Charles Bronson in “Two.” There are many paths in life, but which one will you travel down in the Twilight Zone, Zone… Host: Nic Hoffmann Panel: Matthew, Jeremy and Daniel

Rövid hírszekció: • Augusztus 19-én lett volna 98 éves Gene Roddenberry, Jonathan Frakes pedig ugyanezen a napon ünnepli a születésnapját. • Csaba belenézett az Another Life című scifi sorozatba, ami a Netflixen magyar szinkronnal érhető el. A kibeszélő tartalmából: • A gombnyomásra megsemmisülő világ helyett napjainkra a globális felmelegedésre helyeződött át a hangsúly: ’A végítélet fegyvere’ aktuális jelentőségét boncolgatjuk. • Will Decker Matt Decker fia Roddenberry Csillagösvény novellájában.

This week, we continue with our wind down of the celebration Star Treks 50th anniversary with one of the very best episodes of them all - "The Doomsday Machine!" As you may recall from our last episode, this one ranks #4 in Bill's all time favorite TOS episodes, while Dan had it ranked as his 3rd favorite. Any way you slice it, it is a PHENOMENAL episode and we will discuss all aspects of this classic as well as discuss the amazing remastering of the episode by Mike and Denise Okuda. We will also talk about the incredible performance by William Windom as Commodore Matt Decker, and what makes this episode so special for both of us. But that's not all! In addition to the discussion about the giant, planet killing cornucopia, we have a lot of news to cover, including some awesome casting announcements for Star Trek Discovery! Three incredible actors have been announced as we are so excited with who they are! Blink of an Eye. For someone whose sworn mission was to get her crew home, Kathryn Janeway sure made a lot of unnecessary pitstops. One in particular landed the crew in the ultimate Prime Directive quandary—the kind they don't even teach you about at the Academy. What do you do when your ship inadvertently becomes the corner of a civilization's entire belief system and the impetus for their social and technological advancement? Well, of course, you write a book report about it! But after that, how do you set things back on the right track? In this episode of The Ready Room we're joined by our Voyager editor Charlynn Schmiedt to discuss the episode “Blink of an Eye.” In news we cover a chance to win a trip to Star Trek London, a special offer on Koenig Star Celebration tickets, the Wrath of Khan screening with Nicholas Meyer in North Carolina, TrekMate's 24-hour Podathon for charity, 10 things you may not have known about DS9, and we remember Neil Armstrong and William Windom.
