666 "Winter Dreams" by F. Scott Fitzgerald (with Mike Palindrome) | My Last Book with Lev Grossman

First published in December of 1922, "Winter Dreams" was one of the short stories known as the "Gatsby cluster," as F. Scott Fitzgerald worked out the characters, themes, and prose style that would later make his famous novel The Great Gatsby (1925) an American classic. Telling the story of Dexter Green, a Midwestern golf caddy who becomes a wealthy - but not wealthy enough - suitor to a rich young heiress Judy Jones, "Winter Dreams" works out some of Fitzgerald's own nostalgia and regret for his thwarted relationship with Chicago socialite Ginevra King. In this episode, Jacke and Mike introduce and comment upon the story, which is read in its entirety. PLUS Lev Grossman (The Bright Sword) stops by to discuss his choice for the last book he will ever read. Den viser Viktor Veggmanns kamp med tiden."En: "Did you know," began Lars, pointing his hand toward one of the large sculptures, "that this sculpture is called 'Battle between Love and Time'? It shows Viktor Veggmann's struggle with time."No: Ingrid hevet et øyenbryn, men hun lot ham fortsette.En: Ingrid raised an eyebrow, but she let him continue. No: Hun visste at skulpturen egentlig het noe annet, men hun fant Lars' selvsikkerhet litt sjarmerende.En: She knew that the sculpture was actually called something else, but she found Lars' confidence a bit charming. No: Hva hun ikke visste, var at Sven, en ekte kunstner, sto ikke langt unna og lyttet nysgjerrig.En: What she didn't know was that Sven, a real artist, was not far away and listening curiously. No: Han studerte egentlig skulpturene og tok seg en pause fra sitt eget verksted.En: He was actually studying the sculptures and taking a break from his own workshop. No: Lars fortsatte, full av oppdiktet kunnskap. Jeg er Sven, og jeg arbeider med skulptur selv."En: "Well, you've found one. Men husk, jeg liker deg for den du er, ikke for det du later som."En: "I appreciate that, Lars. Synopsis We probably have the irrepressible playwright, music critic, and ardent socialist George Bernard Shaw to thank for this music—the Third Symphony of Sir Edward Elgar. Shaw had been trying to persuade Elgar to write a Third Symphony, and, early in 1932, had written to Elgar: "Why don't you make the BBC order a new symphony. It can afford it!" A few months later, Shaw dashed off a postcard with a detailed, albeit tongue-in-cheek program for the new work: "Why not a Financial Symphony? Allegro: Impending Disaster; Lento mesto: Stone Broke; Scherzo: Light Heart and Empty Pocket; Allegro con brio: Clouds Clearing." Well, there was a worldwide depression in 1932, but the depression that had prevented Elgar from tacking a new symphony was more personal: the death of his beloved wife in 1920. Despite describing himself as "a broken man," unable to tackle any major projects, when Elgar died in 1934, he left behind substantial sketches for a Third Symphony, commissioned, in fact, by the BBC. Fast forward 64 years, to February 15th, 1998, when the BBC Symphony gave the premiere performance of Elgar's Third at Royal Festival Hall in London, in a performing version, or "elaboration" of Elgar's surviving sketches, prepared by the contemporary British composer Anthony Payne. It was a tremendous success, and, we would like to think, somewhere in the hall the crusty spirit of George Bernard Shaw was heard to mutter: "Well—about time!" Dear friends, don't forget to read the full text so you don't miss anything: Text in English At the age of five, Peter began to learn to play the piano. In 1865, Tchaikovsky graduated with honors from the Conservatory – he received diploma and a silver medal. In Moscow in 1866, Tchaikovsky composed his first symphony entitled “Winter Dreams” and the first opera “Voevoda”. The composer became an innovator in the field of ballet, where music became the main component of ballet drama. He created the ballets “Swan Lake” (1876), “The Sleeping Beauty” (1889), “The Nutcracker” (1892). On November 6 1893, the composer died of cholera. Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald, named for his famous second cousin, three times removed, was an American fiction writer, whose works helped to illustrate the flamboyance and excess of the Jazz Age. While he achieved popular success, fame, and fortune in his lifetime, he did not receive much critical acclaim until after his death. Perhaps the most notable member of the “lost generation” of the l920s, Fitzgerald is now widely regarded as one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century.

God knows how many takes I had to do before achieving perfection. Lo-Fi Pueblo Vista mixtapes though, thats something entirely different. There might not be “real” mixing involved, however the mood is key. That’s where harmonic sequencing comes in handy. You can google that. The sound of Pueblo Vista is an eloquent amalgamation of carefully curated, relaxing and soothing vibes. Perfect for background music, study, relaxation, chill, sleep or that cozy morning coffee. Keeping everything in it’s purest form. The emphasis on tone and atmosphere, over traditional musical structures. Rhythmic forms, over net composition. Minimalist beats and vocals, over repetition and melody. It’s warm, it’s alive, it’s relaxed, it’s an escape, it’s a walk in the woods and a deep breath at the ocean. At once epic and intimate.
