Since its announcement a few weeks ago at Cosmoverse in Medellin, Atom 2.0 has sparked intense debate in the Cosmos community and throughout the blockchain ecosystem. It proposes three pillars for the Cosmos Hub: Interchain Security, the Interchain Allocator, and the Interchain Scheduler. However, parts of the paper have been contested and debated over fears of token holder dilution, potential treasury mismanagement, and even the collapse of the Hub. We chat with Ethan Buchman and Zaki Manian to dive deep into Atom 2.0 and its vision for Cosmos moving forward.Topics covered in this episode:The ATOM 2.0 announcement and follow upThe goal of the whitepaperInterchain Security and its role in Cosmos' futureInterchain Security vs. Mesh SecurityCosmos scalabilityLiquid staking in the Cosmos ecosystemDistributing funds through the AllocatorAtom issuance modelThe motivation behind the Interchain SchedulerThe governance process - voting on the whitepaperNext steps to community adoptionEpisode links: Atom 2.0 WhitepaperAtom 2.0 forum postAtom 2.0 Debate episode on The InteropEthan on TwitterZaki on TwitterJoin Epicenter!Sponsors: Tally Ho: Tally Ho is a new wallet for Web3 and DeFi that sees the wallet as a public good. In this episode of the DeFi Download, Piers Ridyard interviews Zaki Manian, co-founder of Sommelier and Iqlusion. They talk about his path from Cosmos to Sommelier, DeFi's revolutions and end state, and what sets this new system apart from TradFi.Zaki Manian is co-founder of Sommelier and Iqlusion. Using Cosmos technology, Sommelier makes it possible for decentralised actively managed DeFi strategies to be used throughout the Ethereum DeFi ecosystem.Sommelier is developed on the Cosmos SDK to optimise interoperability with other blockchains. It employs one of the top-performing Ethereum bridges and is currently expanding its access to other chains to ensure that strategies are not only dependent on high-gas ETH markets.[1:50] Dave's journey into the Ethereum ecosystem, Cosmos, and Sommelier[12:09] What are the properties of Cosmos that made it preferable to build Sommelier there rather than in Solidity on Ethereum?[13:46] Bridging Ethereum and Sommelier while maintaining trust [18:55] Government's purpose is to slow down rapid change. This is an intriguing notion because two things are colliding in DeFi. On the one hand, people desire the ability to move swiftly, innovate, construct new things, and experiment. On the other hand, we are dealing with significant sums of money, and checks and balances must be in place. Piers predicts that DeFi will go down the growth path of Sommelier. However, what aspects of TradFi are we not emulating? What features of the new system will make it superior to the previous one?[27:29] Decentralised communities as quasi-nations and the governance system of Cosmos and its structure[31:50] Censorship resistance at the heart of a potential future political crisis in Ethereum that might fracture the community[34:33] What is the end state for DeFi according to Zaki? What direction is the industry taking?[37:59] DeFi's ability to create liquidity for assets with high trading volumes, as well as the enormous amount of innovation it can unleash[41:35] The next wave of DeFi will involve increased complexity and sophistication of financial products, as well as increased complexity in their management. The next revolution will most likely be the abstraction of all of that to something relatively basic and user-friendly. Is Sommelier's eventual goal to turn to a simple user state, or will it always focus on the institutional rather than the retail?Further resourcesWebsite: sommelier.finance Twitter: @sommfinanceZaki's Twitter: @zmanianDiscord: discord.com/invite/ZcAYgSBxvY Telegram: t.me/getsomm

This is the Cosmos Thesis. ------
In this episode of Empire, Jason and Santi are joined by Zaki Manian and Jack Zampolin to explore the past, present and future of the Cosmos ecosystem and tech stack. On this week's episode of DeFi Decoded, Alex and Andrew sit down with Zaki Manian, a veteran crypto entrepreneur and co-founder of Sommelier Finance. DeFi is moving at such a rapid clip, it is difficult for most investors to stay on top of the latest trends and even more challenging to make educated investment decisions. Sommelier Finance aims to solve this problem by providing access to proven strategies supported by on-chain data in a fully decentralized way, essentially acting as a ‘guide' to the bewildering world, similar to a wine sommelier. Sommelier is an Ethereum application built with Cosmos technology. But really, this is a stepping stone to a future state. Zaki believes by next year, Cosmos will be so advanced that most of the DeFi mind-share will be in that ecosystem, rather than Ethereum. In the spirit (ahem) of viniculture, if Ethereum is France (home to wine making for many years) than Cosmos is California – still undeveloped but with the potential for better terroir!
Our fifth DISRUPTORS guest, Zaki Manian, is the Co-founder of Sommelier Finance and iqlusion. He is a foremost contributor to Cosmos, having helped launch their first testnet. Governance Proposal #72 is live on the hub! It aims to launch a DeFi hub that will leverage Interchain Security. Therefore, DeFi projects shall be incentivized to launch on the new hub. The idea is also to strengthen the tokenomics of $ATOM. However, many Cosmonauts are against this proposal. Few validators even voted "No with Veto" on governance proposal #72. In today's episode, we will talk about what proposal #72 aims to do and clarify some misunderstandings. Enjoy! - - - - - - Catch up with FRENS VALIDATOR:
Zaki Manian is the Co-Founder of Sommelier Finance, a DeFi platform and coprocessor for the EthereumVM. Why you should listen Zaki believes that regulators can be supportive of the incredible innovation going on in the DeFi space by developing a regime of awards rather than punishments for DeFi projects that move the industry towards reasonable integration with financial safeguards that regulators are bound to pursue. Sommelier is a bet that Ethereum will be a dominant player in the global economy. Sommelier consists of the Cosmos Stargate SDK, its Tendermint-based consensus layer, and a decentralized, bi-directional Ethereum bridge, managed by a global network of validators. Liquidity Providers (LPs) will be able to use the Sommelier to author and execute complex, and automated financial transactions, such as portfolio rebalancing, limit orders, batched orders, as well as a host of other features that traders have come to expect from CeFi, but that are not currently available in DeFi. What is Sommelier Finance? Sommelier makes retail liquidity participation in automated market makers (AMM), accessible, understandable, profitable for the masses. We are excited about what is happening in the decentralized exchange (DEX) space, I think there's a tremendous amount of innovation there, but one of the gaps that I observed is that while there's a lot of focus on the trader experience, there's not as much focused on the liquidity provider (LP) experience. And taking all the technologies that I have, I've been worked been working on for all these many years and I'm starting to bring them together to improve the liquidity provider experience. As much as possible.

In this episode we talk to Dean Tribble, the CEO at Agoric, a secure smart contract platform built with the help of Tendermint & Cosmos-SDK. Dean's Twitter (https://twitter.com/DeanTribble) Agoric are a smart contracts platform (transfers of rights enforced in code). Agoric uses an object-capability (ocap) security architecture, in which access to a programming object itself is the authority to use the object. This approach has been used successfully to create secure operating systems, and to control untrusted scripts in Google’s Caja project and Salesforce’s Locker Service. Agoric is developing a secure distributed ocap platform for smart contracts and market-oriented programming. It supports the development of smart contracts and market institutions across many scales, from large public blockchains to small two-party contracts. We spoke to Dean about smart contracts, and: What is Agoric How Agoric is different from CosmWasm The team behind Agoric and their experience The use of Tendermint and Cosmos in Agoric The Cosmos community and its role in the development process What is SCS for JavaScript and what is Jessie Open Source VS proprietary software The key ceremony of Z-cash Oracles and decentralized OS Can decentralization help to reduce vulnerability of human mistakes Top information sources according to Dean The projects and people that have been mentioned in this episode: | Tendermint (https://tendermint.com/) | Cosmos (https://cosmos.network/) | Agoric (https://agoric.com/) | Midori Micorosoft (https://microsoft.fandom.com/wiki/Midori_(operating_system)) | AMiX (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Information_Exchange) | SunLabs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun_Microsystems_Laboratories) | Epay (https://www.epay.com/) | Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/) | PayPal (https://www.paypal.com/) | Venmo (https://venmo.com/) | Ethereum (https://ethereum.org/en/) | Bitcoin (https://bitcoin.org/) | IBC (https://ibcprotocol.org/) | WebAssembly (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WebAssembly) | JavaScipt (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JavaScript) | CosmWasm (https://www.cosmwasm.com/) | Z-cash (https://z.cash/) | Bloomberg (https://www.bloomberg.com/) | Chainlink (https://chain.link/) | EVM (https://ethereum.org/en/developers/docs/evm/) | SeL4 (https://sel4.systems/) | Swing set Agoric (https://github.com/Agoric/SwingSet) | ZK rollups (https://medium.com/matter-labs/optimistic-vs-zk-rollup-deep-dive-ea141e71e075) | Corda (https://www.corda.net/) | Halo (https://electriccoin.co/blog/explaining-halo-2/) | Innovation University of Australia (https://www.iru.edu.au/about/our-universities/) | Mark Miller (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mark_S._Miller) | Jae Kwon (https://github.com/jaekwon) | Zaki Manian (https://twitter.com/zmanian) | Ethan Buchman (https://www.citizencosmos.space/ethan-buchman-cosmos) | Adriana Mihai (https://www.citizencosmos.space/adriana-passion) | Zooko Wilcox (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zooko_Wilcox-O%27Hearn) | Christofer Lemmer Webber (https://www.patreon.com/cwebber) | Kate Sills (https://www.linkedin.com/in/kate-sills-79170a14) | If you like what we do at Citizen Cosmos: Stake with Citizen Cosmos validator (https://www.citizencosmos.space/staking) Help support the project via Gitcoin Grants (https://gitcoin.co/grants/1113/citizen-cosmos-podcast) Listen to the YouTube version (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeRbY6tiAio) Read our blog (https://citizen-cosmos.github.io/blog/) Check out our GitHub (https://github.com/citizen-cosmos/Citizen-Cosmos) Join our Telegram (https://t.me/citizen_cosmos) Follow us on Twitter (https://twitter.com/cosmos_voice) Sign up to the RSS feed (https://www.citizencosmos.space/rss)

US Banking Regulator Suggests Federal Licensing Framework for Crypto Firms - Brian Brooks, chief operating officer of the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the nation's national bank overseer, said Monday he believes crypto companies could fall under a federal licensing regime – if they provide what can be described as payment services. Speaking at CoinDesk's Consensus: Distributed virtual conference, the former Coinbase chief legal officer said many crypto companies are payments companies, and it therefore might make sense to treat these startups – and other fintech firms like Stripe – the same way as banks are treated federally. "Crypto is one of those areas where we have to ask ourselves, does it make more sense to think of crypto projects as local projects or global projects. If they're global, then the rational for a single national license makes more sense," he said. "Increasingly, it looks a lot like crypto is banking for the 21st century."This would give these startups an alternative to the state-level money transmitter licenses when building operations. The European Central Bank (ECB) is looking into what a retail central bank digital currency (CBDC) form of the euro might look like - The ECB set up a task force earlier this year to look into what its potential CBDC could look like, and the group expects to publish a preliminary report in the coming weeks, said Mersch, an executive board member at the ECB. "A wholesale CBDC, restricted to a limited group of financial counter-parties, would be largely business as usual," Mersch said. "However, a retail CBDC, accessible to all, would be a game changer, so a retail CBDC is now our main focus." A retail CBDC could be based on a digital token circulated "in a decentralized manner," without a central ledger, Mersch said, though he stopped short of saying the words "blockchain" or "distributed ledger." He acknowledged that the traceability of digital transactions would raise privacy concerns among a population used to paying for some things with paper notes.Cold Currency War is brewing - Every sector is competing in a type of arms race to be a leader in the digital currency race.Vitalik Buterin said the Ethereum 2.0 protocol upgrade in July - Eth2 will change the consensus mechanism to proof-of-stake (PoS), is well on its way to launching sometime in July.Zcash Alliance Aims to Bring Privacy Tech to Bitcoin, Cosmos and Ethereum -A handful of big names in crypto want in on the privacy features offered by Zcash. The Electric Coin Company (ECC) announced Monday the launch of the Zcash Developers Alliance (ZDA), an invite-only working group that includes the Lightning Network startup Bolt Labs, the cross-chain technology startup Thesis, the Ethereum conglomerate ConsenSys and two leading startups working on the Cosmos project, Agoric and Iqlusion, just to name a few. “The ZDA is an attempt to introduce a way to collaborate with the ECC, and the Zcash ecosystem, which focuses around other people's priorities,” Iqlusion founder Zaki Manian said. “Product-market fit is other people [beyond fans and founders] actually caring about it.” Manian said the “Zcash anonymity set” is a “valuable public good,” describing how the privacy coin allows shielded transactions and the construct that allows individual transactions to get lost in the metaphorical crowd. Guests:Illia Polosukhin (@ilblackdragon) - debating FOR the motionZaki Manian (@zmanian) - debating AGAINST the motionHost:Richard Yan (@gentso09)In a world where decentralized applications proliferate, will these applications be built on top of a few or many public blockchains? Exploration of this topic would help us understand the merits of the coexistence of many protocols. On the extreme, each dapp can have its own chain, so that the developers/community for each app can have maximal control over the full stack of their product. The guests we have for this episode have essentially voted on their position with their feet. The oligopoly advocate is cofounder of a layer-1 protocol, and the multiplicity supporter is a major contributor to one of the earliest, if not the earliest, blockchains designed with interoperability in mind.Be sure to also check out our previous episodes too, on Bitcoin's store of value status, tokenization and smart contracts, DeFi, bitcoin halvening, China's future in blockchain, and POW vs POS.If you would like to debate or want to nominate someone, please DM me at @blockdebate on Twitter. Please note that nothing in our podcast should be construed as financial advice.Source of select items discussed in the debate:Inter-Blockchain Communication: https://cosmos.network/ibc/Near protocol: https://nearprotocol.com/
Want to incorporate blockchain into IoT? Well, that's a pretty tall order but you have two ways to go about it. On this episode, I speak to Zaki Manian from Tendermint. We get deep into the weeds of interoperability, his notions of interop between fast chains and fast and slow chains. We discuss the IBC protocol, which is a spec for adapters between different chains along with all the complexities when dealing with cross-chain communications. Moreover, we examine design and development principles when building product in this space, and the differences when building traditional software product. Zaki goes over some exciting projects that are building on Cosmos as well. Topics: Who Zaki is Talking about interoperability Two classes of blockchains What is Cosmos trying to do Main issues when getting different chains to talk to one another Main design principles when setting out to design the Cosmos network Interesting projects he see people building with Cosmos Talking about consensus system and incentive system Minimal Viable Ecosystem Acceleration talk Links: Cosmos Network - https://cosmos.network/ Twitter - Cosmos Network - https://twitter.com/cosmos Telegram - Cosmos Network - https://t.me/Cosmos_Network Zaki's Twitter - https://twitter.com/zmanian Minimal Viable Ecosystem Acceleration talk at MIT - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqopwqXyURw Cosmos SDK Tutorial - https://github.com/cosmos/sdk-application-tutorial Cosmos Game of Stakes - https://blog.cosmos.network/game-of-stakes-closing-ceremonies-eddb71d3b114
Champion of decentralization, Zaki Manian, rejoins us for updates on Cosmos since their Mainnet launch. We dive into the design principles of Cosmos, their consensus mechanisms, incentivisation model, and how to integrate your decentralized application into the Cosmos Network. We also learn more about who is currently using Cosmos and how, what Zaki and Cosmos will be speaking on at NYC Blockchain Week events, as well as how Cosmos differentiates itself from other technologies being produced. Riveting as always! Show Links: MIT talk about launch cosmos Zaki's Twitter

Zaki Manian, founder of SkuChain, Head of Tendermint Labs and too many other things to put in notes here joins Base Layer today to discuss the state of the state of Cosmos and Tendermint and why they are so important to the growth of the crypto ecosystem; in addition to we discuss why he got into the space in the first place. We discuss why he founded SkuChain after spending lots of time reviewing the legacy financial system and seeing sophistication but cracks in the system (i.e. people still needing to use fax machines). Great deep conversation. Listen and enjoy!
James Prestwich of Summa, Ali Yahya of Andreessen Horrowitz, and Zaki Manian of Cosmos discuss the types of trade offs that various smart contract platforms are making, and the implications of usability and dapp development.
We had the pleasure of interviewing Zaki Manian, prolific engineer, Founder of SkuChain, Head of Tendermint Labs, Advisor on the Interchain Foundation, and Executive Directory of the Trusted IoT Alliance. Phew, that's a lot of hats. Zaki gives us a glimpse into what it's like designing a scalable, secure consensus protocol. We speak to him about the philosophy behind scaling solutions, the differences in approach to consensus mechanisms, the role of blockchain as the world grows accustom to trust, and get a really solid look into the history of the blockchain space that led to where we are today.
Chuck and Fongaboo are joined by Zaki Manian from Restore the Fourth San Francisco… who discusses how they were successful at passing ordinances at the municipal level to restrict surveillance in the Bay Area… as well as lobbying to protect encryption at the state level. He also gives a full breakdown of Rule 41, which … Continue reading Episode 3 – GUEST: Zaki Manian, Restore the 4th San Francisco
Fongaboo was joined by Alex Marthews and Zaki Manian of Restore the Fourth for a pre-inaugural episode of Privacy Patriots on Radio Statler at the 2016 HOPE Conference.
