She writes for both film and TV, and runs her own copywriting business, helping brands that want to have a positive impact on people and planet build trust and loyalty with their customers and clients. For over ten years, she has been an activist raising awareness and trying to put an end to sexual and relationship violence. When she's not writing, you can find her momming, eating good food, and enjoying the ocean air.In our 45mins together, we shared stories amidst chuckles, and jammed about: - How she forged and defined her own path, life and business, through finding that sweet spot that taps into both her left/right brain - What having lived through a traumatic and abusive relationship at a tender age taught her, how it altered her outlook on life, and the unexpected doors that opened for her after - How motherhood brought more intention, purpose and conviction to live out the best version of her lifeJustine also quoted her favorite quote of all times that she read as a child, that which will later define the trajectory of her path forever: As Margaret Atwood says: “A word after a word after a word is power."How beautiful, how lovely, how true. In this first interview post hiatus, I'm thrilled to bring you this heartwarming, nourishing conversation with the smart and sparkly Karen Chan. Karen is a children's book author, entrepreneur and attorney. She is the founder of Gloo Books, an independent publishing company making children's books for a more inclusive, just and compassionate future. After she became a parent, she noticed how few children's books had Asian characters in them. This inspired her to write her first children's book What's That?, which celebrates Asian American identity through food. This eventually turned into starting her own publishing company, Gloo Books, with the mission to create social change through children's literature. When she's not working on Gloo Books or practicing law, Karen is often cooking, wrangling her two young boys and enjoying life in the mostly sunny, Los Angeles. We jammed about: The essentiality of meditation to equip us with more power over our emotions and how it can in turn help us help gratitude from a more authentic space Karen's golden and solid tips on what helped her take her first right step towards starting her creative business The concept of ‘just begin', of trusting the small steps (while trying to eat an elephant), and of making space for imperfection This conversation was grounding, invigorating and one that I personally needed to listen and get goosebumps over it again as I talk through this season of seeking inspiration and channeling creative energy in my life. Hi friends. I arrived today with what would be the most heartwrenching share I've ever had on the podcast thus far. I poured my heart out about trying to find peace and acceptance for the hardest thing by far I had to do in my life before I leave for Houston in a couple of days. I apologise if this is too emotionally charged for you or if there are parts of what I shared and experienced that you don't agree or resonate with. For those of you who are able to make space for this, thank you from the bottom of my conflicted and broken heart. Your graciousness, understanding and permission are such gifts that I truly do not take for granted. If you too are needing to make a difficult decision or do a really hard thing in your life right now, know that you're not alone, know that it's okay that you still don't know how all of it is going to look and be like as you take the next step forward. There are no right or wrong ways to heal, just what works for you. Be aware but gentle with yourselves, and most of all, be breathing those deep breathes. I'm in an over-the-moon kinda mood today because guess who's back?! The endearing and bubbly Annie Hardock returns on the podcast! If you don't yet know Annie: Annie Hardock is an educator, entrepreneur and best-selling author and speaker. Watching her parents struggle financially to raise their family with 9 children, Annie knew from a young age that education and personal development was the key to financial freedom. That contributed to Annie's drive to birth a mathematics-based child learning center in 2010. When lockdowns as a result of COVID-19 began in March 2020, Annie pivoted the learning center to an online virtual classroom. Her vision is to deliver high quality, affordable and accessible education to children around the world. In this energetic and warm catch-up conversation with Annie, we jammed about: The essentiality of lifelong learning, trying new things and aptitude to make quick pivots in life and business Hew new international best-selling book Moms Who Boss Up; what and who inspired it and the writing process Current education systems, its loopholes made evident during the pandemic and ways we can improve and create better and more resilient systems for future generations In this episode: Connect with Annie here: Contact number: +1 905-852-6677LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/anniehardock Instagram and Facebook: @easymathforkids and @anniesvoiceconnect Find more information about Annie's offerings and services here: Educational services for kids: www.easymathforkids.comLink to access a free download to Annie's Tried and Proven 3-Step System to Transform Your Child Into An Eager & Engaged Learner: www.easymathforkids.net New best-selling books ‘Moms Who Boss Up - Successful moms who pivoted to success in the face of uncertainty”: https://bit.ly/3F7VAyQ

I have the pleasure of holding the space on the podcast today, for a reflective, honest and intentional conversation with the confident, tenacious, powerhouse of a female, Claire Wu. Claire is a holistic business and mindset coach by profession and passion and a physiotherapist and movement expert by trade. After spending 15 years healing from her toxic family and environment, she has since successfully launched multiple ventures and investments. In her business coaching, she blends in her expertise in body and movement to help her clients take their business to the next level without overwhelm and burnout. Originally from Taiwan, Claire grew up in a typical Asian family culture and conditioning where perfection, best school and top grades are used as benchmarks to determine how successful one is and will become. This constant chase for her parent's praises and affirmation contributed largely to a time in Claire's life where depression and borderline personality disorder took centerstage. It was with the support received through therapy and lots of reading, curiosity and growth, combined with her love for travel and resilience for change that saw her move away from Taiwan at 18, lived in 3 different continents in the past 10 years and now running multiple successful businesses teaching and serving others in ways that also serves and feeds her heart and soul. You'll want to listen to this episode if you're: Looking for inspiration on how to create the feeling and idea of home without having to compromise your wanderlust nature Needing courage and guidance to walk away from toxic environments and creating new paths to thriveLooking for tips to get unstuck from your current situationIn this episode: Connect with and lend your support to Claire's works here: Email: support@clairelverawu.comWebsite: https://mailchi.mp/clairelverawu/find-your-essence-coaching Come say hello and hang out with me here: Instagram: heartopenconvers_asiansHave a question, thought or feedback? I'm delighted to bring you today, this wholesome, honeyed conversation with a new-found friend and a fellow avid lover of books and stories, Sarah Dayan Mueller. Sarah is a native of Brooklyn, New York. She is the author of two novels, including Home in a Hundred Places and Greater than the Still. Aside from writing her next novel, Sarah enjoys playing piano, ukulele, photography, and traveling the world. She lives in the suburbs of Chicago with her husband, son, and mother. What stood out for me the most about Sarah, is the level of trusting and allowing that she lets in to her life that eventually led her to develop some of the most beautiful destinations and connections. When she decided to take a 180 degree pivot from working her 9-5 as a counselor and then later in Human Resources to take on the roles of a marine wife and a full time mum, transitioning from city to city and at times countries, she found herself having to establish new routines and pursuits, yet, it was in this unassuming phase of her life, where she found time between her son's sleeping times to create, finish and publish one of her best writings yet - a beautiful memoir to remember her late father's story and now legacy with. This conversation left me filled with hope, light and introspection. There is good in the Here and Now, if we would allow in and make space for the possibilities and experiences that comes with it. I invite you to listen to this episode if you're: Struggling to harness joy and intention in your here and now Needing motivation to start and try something new with the resources you have access to, however little or small Needing to hear a different perspective about being new to a place and how to find opportunities to create positive experiences I also shared in the 1st 7 minutes some emotional heaviness I'm currently walking through and the tiny but specific actions I took to help get myself to a more centered, balanced place. I hope it serves and helps you too.In this episode: Say hello, connect and show support for Sarah's works here: FacebookInstagramWebsite Learn more, find and support Sarah's books here: Greater Than The Still: https://www.amazon.com/Greater-Still-Sarah-Dayan-Mueller-ebook/dp/B09HFHNSM9/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2M9E5CWSOJVTE&keywords=sarah+dayan+mueller&qid=1640043998&sprefix=sarah+dayan+mueller+%2Caps%2C143&sr=8-2 Home in a Hundred Places: https://www.amazon.com/Hundred-Places-Sarah-Dayan-Mueller/dp/0578870290/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2M9E5CWSOJVTE&keywords=sarah+dayan+mueller&qid=1640043998&sprefix=sarah+dayan+mueller+%2Caps%2C143&sr=8-1Sarah is currently reading: The Midnight Library by Matt Haighttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B085BVSXS9?tag=amz-mkt-chr-us-20&ascsubtag=1ba00-01000-org00-mac00-other-smile-us000-pcomp-feature-scomp-feature-scomp&ref=aa_scomp Come say hello and hang out with me here: Instagram: heartopenconvers_asiansHave a question, thought or feedback? As I walked into these past week working through some heart-wrenching episodes of my life, I am heartened and so grateful, to be able to bring you a warm and hopeful conversation I had with my treasured friend, Deanna. Deanna is a licensed tour guide certified by Malaysia's Ministry of Tourism and UNESCO. Born and bred in Malaysia, she is passionate about spreading the culture and flavors of Malaysia far and wide to all tourists who visited from near and far. She is experienced with handling groups ranging from full bus loads of tourists as well as private tours. The onset of COVID brought about unexpected and difficult pivots to her life and career and through her tenacity and resilience, she pivoted onto the virtual space to continue to pursue and hone her passion in tour-guiding. At each of our core as human, is the need to be seen and understood and she believes strongly that by sharing Malaysia authentically with the world, that is the first step towards world peace. There is so much in this honest, warm conversation that all of us need to hear on so many levels, but if there is one message I encourage each of you to take away from this episode, is that, you bring so much more to the table than you think you do. It can be really hard to see or grasp when you're standing in the midst of a storm, but if you could clear the noise and be still, you'll see that the resources and possibilities are there; you just need to have the resilience, the courage and the room for curiosity and to all yourself to do it messy to claim it. Hello, treasured community! It's a bright, crispy and beautiful Friday here in Houston and I'm back here to bring you a fresh, new episode on the podcast! I have the pleasure of hosting and sharing the audio space with Erica Yanney (again!) on the #heartopenconversasians podcast today. Erica is the founder and CEO of Altitude Career Coaching where she helps Global Professionals and Immigrants with Career Planning, Career Transition, Job Searching, Professional Development, and Executive Coaching. She is also the Director of Training and Faculty Member at Paradigm21 Executive Leadership Coaching Academy, where she trains coaches and leaders who want to develop their transformational leadership skills and pursue an ICF certification. Purpose-driven, strategic, and dynamic, Erica Yanney is a Certified Professional Life and Career Coach by the ICF, helping professionals to envision and construct their desired futures. Possessing an entrepreneurial mindset and excellent motivational skills, she empowers professionals to elevate performance, satisfaction, balance, and well-being in their careers and lives. She is originally from Brazil and has called US home for the past 18 years. A child of God and mum to 2 beautiful children, she enjoys playing piano, yoga, Drums Alive and watching movies during her free time and is active at her church supporting the music ministry. I was convinced that I have to ask Erica to come on the HOC podcast after we connected and recorded my conversation with her on her podcast despite her being non-Asian, and boy, was I glad and SO elated that we did. Erica speaks with such grace, passion and confidence as we talked about why and how career coaching became her calling. She also shared generously with us how hiring processes are changing and tangible steps on how to find purpose and alignment in your life and career. I would say this is a must-listen for all if it's up to me but you definitely don't want to miss it if you're at a point of career transitioning to another corporation or as an entrepreneur, or job-searching in new countries and cities. Happy Friday , treasured friends. October 11 is recognized by the UN as International Day of the Girl Day, a commemoration that I'd only learnt and made privy to this year. I woke up that morning immersed and mesmerized by stories of Afghan girls sharing their stories before and after leaving their country for better lives in the US, then later seeing colleagues, friends, industry allies, sharing their own versions of #thislittlegirlisme, sharing courageously their struggles and celebrating their triumphs and resilience. Inspired by the many stories I read and heard over October 11, International Day of the Girl Day, I came to you with a solo episode this weekend, inviting you to walk down memory lane with me as I recount and vulnerably share with you some of the significant pieces of my childhood, adolescent and adulthood that had directly or indirectly impacted my trajectory of life. I hope this honest and raw sharing will encourage you to take a little time for yourself to do the same, be it subtly with your journal, or via a little bigger way through a friend, confidante, therapist, look back at these parts of your lives, celebrate how far you've come, and give that 7 year old self of yours a big, warm, needed hug. Some questions that you could journal on or talk to a confidante about could be: What is your childhood like? What are some things, some shame that you have been carrying since you were a child? If you were to meet your 7 year old self today, what would you say to her? Come say hello and hang out with me here: Instagram: heartopenconvers_asiansHave a question, thought or feedback to share? On the #heartopenconversasians podcast today, I have the pleasure of holding space for the story and entrepreneurial journey of a new-found friend, a passionate ally, and thought leader on mindset, alignment and breakthroughs, Benjamin Yeh. Benjamin is a Business and Transformation Coach. His passion is helping others unlock their inner and outer breakthroughs through his coaching and Boom Vision Podcast, a show designed for driven professionals and entrepreneurs seeking clarity, purpose and happiness! Through Boom Vision, Ben shares his unique vantage points, holistic practicality in business & life, and action steps on how people can bridge the gap between outer success and inner happiness. Ben's core values are to inspire, love and impact and his career has evolved from being a real estate consultant, investment officer for a family office where he invested over $1 billion dollars, a serial entrepreneur, a father, advisor/coach and a student of life. Coining this episode to be one that's by far filled to the seams with nuggets of wisdom, relatable analogies, and deep dives is a true understatement. The transformational coaching arena is wide and aplenty, but what stood out for me in Ben, is his resolution to commit to bringing to life, content and ideologies he wished he had access to in his earlier phases, is his ability to weave in his personal and lived experiences along with brilliant references and quirky analogies, to break down our complex deep inner worlds and minds into learnable, applicable pieces to our outer worlds and surroundings. In this episode: Watch the movie ‘Sneakers' - highly recommended by Ben! Happy Friday, friends! It's the start of my favourite season of the year, and I'm so here for it. An interesting conversation with a fellow Singaporean who had just arrived in Houston this past June to reside and study and my desire to share more connection and intimacy with you inspired this solo episode this week. In this light-hearted sharing, I discussed both our personal insights and experiences between living in Singapore and here in Houston, Texas through 5 main aspects. I hope you'll enjoy this. On the #heartopenconversasians podcast today, I have the pleasure of shining the light on the story of an amazing human being and treasured friend, Deisy Vasquez. Deisy Vasquez is currently a family therapist working with at-risk youth who have suffered some sword of trauma. Previously, Deisy worked in a school setting, helping families from low-income households. She graduated from John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a bachelor's degree in forensic psychology. Deisy is also a full-time student completing her PsyD in clinical psychology. Deisy has a passion for spreading awareness on mental health, as she struggled with it for many years, which is why she started her podcast Opsy Deisy. She also enjoys advocating for adoption because it saved her life, and she wants other children to have the same opportunities of knowing stability and to feel nurtured.I have only love and more love for all that we shared during this conversation. It was honest, deep, intimate; there is something about the way Deisy delivers the message of mental health and sharing her own journey of walking away from people-pleasing and choosing to stop disappointing herself and live life at her terms and happy that is so relatable yet at the same time so profound. Truly a conversation and friendship that I count my blessings everyday for. If you're all about keeping things real and have an interest for all things mental health related, I strongly urge you to go listen, follow and subscribe to Deisy's podcast! Episode is now LIVE! Singapore-born and bred, Emily fell in love with California and moved to San Francisco in 2014 to build her professional experience in fine dining and casual dining establishments. With her undying love for the hustle, a long-term commitment to heritage foods and food culture, and a deep desire to build cultural bridges and to give back, she grasped the opportunity to create something that was missing in San Francisco - authentic Singaporean hawker foods. Birthed during the pandemic, and in hopes to provide jobs for her peers, Dabao Singapore comes from the heart as an homage to her female ancestors who used to peddle foods for a living in developing Singapore. The numerous jolts of laughter throughout this conversation is testament to how much fun it was connecting with Emily; not like it was going to be possible any other way being around this vivacious, big hearted, down to earth soul and human. What shone through for me though, was that passion you hear in her voice and see in her eyes when she take us through her world of her entire career being a chef, her desire to bridge culture and gaps in humanity through the love for Asian food. What started out as a necessity to maintain life sustenance for herself and her close community during a difficult COVID year quickly became the Asian community's go-to whenever they crave for a flavor from home and a global movement to introduce and include the flavors from Asia here in the US and one day, globally. A story of hustle, of passion, of resilience, of trusting the process, and of coming home to yourself. It is with such great honor and anticipation that I bring you our first conversation in Season 2 featuring a sweet, newfound forever friend, Karina Hsieh. Karina is a Poet and Entrepreneur. She studied Psychology at Harvard and worked in Silicon Valley as a "Happiness Engineer" before backpacking solo around the world for 1-1/2 years to cultivate her own self-love and compassion. It was in that time that she found herself chancing upon a version of herself that's bursting with words and poetry, which led her to writing her first book of poetry, then leading a t-shirt campaign to raise awareness on #stopasianhate, and now passionately creating a whole world around her new project, Honeymourn. Her journey has been nothing short of synchronicities, those of which that showed up for her because she was brave enough to trust it and go for it without certainty of the outcome. Her kind, warm soul and spirit is one that leaves me in admiration and awe and one that I think we can all learn to lean into and allow a little more of in our lives. “It's not linear and embracing the face that it's all part of the process; that there is going to be failures, there are going to be very difficult times but the important thing is showing up and going back every day, even if it's a little bit and it will take care of itself.” In this episode, I have the pleasure of sharing a divine and lovely conversation with a dear friend I met in a coaching program last March, Tracy. Tracy's a violinist who's currently studying her 2nd masters in Switzerland. Just like anyone of us, self doubt, imposter syndrome and the fear of change and the unknowns are feelings and resistances that comes up for Tracy in her musical journey every day. I loved how she was able to process and break it down for us how going inward, giving herself more credit and trusting the process has been key to help her overcome those challenges and feel more confident about her journey forward. Episode is now LIVE! I hope you'll take some time and come sit with us in this laughter-infused, heart-centered conversation. P.S: I also made an announcement towards the end which I hope you'll stick around to listen. Be well, dear friends. Here are the takeaways:Be your biggest supporter and give yourself more credit for how far you've come and achieved Speak to yourself like you would to a friend, in a kind, loving, compassionate way Focusing on the process journey instead of the end result liberates you Failures and difficult times are just part of the journey. Show up despite that, even if its a little bit each time, and the rest will take care of itself If you truly love something and are passionate about what you do, what others have to say would inherently mean very little Compare less and be more compassionate towards others and yourself Look inward for the faith and strength you need while navigating through the unknown periods of your life; it is already within you In this episode: Connect with Tracy and follow her musical journey though her instagram @curiousviolinist and also keep an eye out for her website (Google ‘tracybuviolin') which she will be very soon set up! This week, I'm joined by the confident, fearless, full of life of an amazing human, Mary Dee. She's adored and known by many as the Joy Catalyst and she's also an acclaimed International Keynote Speaker, Mentor & Business Advisor in Leadership and Operational Efficiency, Curator of Madloveology Retreats and co-author of the #1 Bestseller on Amazon, “Asian Women Who Boss Up.” Mary is nothing short of the epitome of living out the true meaning behind “what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.” A breast cancer survivor, it was in that seemingly challenging and darkest phase in her life where she found herself diving deep and desiring in her life, business and from within, change and a greater purpose, meaning and impact. Today, she lives out her every day fearlessly and brightly, helping others turn their pain into purpose and shining that light of hers into darkness to help others release fear, find courage and live fiercely. I'm not being dramatic when I say that one of the first things I thought after we finished the interview was “Woah, I felt like I just interviewed Oprah Winfrey.” And did I mention that as much of a powerhouse she is, Mary's also as relatable as a fellow girl-pal who loves her boba and massages just like you and me? Hello, Friday. Hello, dear community. This week, I have the honor and opportunity to connect with Founder & Creator of Davia Bouquet, Sylvia Cheng, a fellow Asian female who uprooted her established life back in Taiwan for a next, new chapter of her life with her husband in the U.S 3 years ago. Perhaps it was how similar our journey of living abroad was, or how warm and sweet a person Sylvia was, I got lost in the most purest of ways as we chatted about how we both walked through a challenging season adjusting into our new lives in new cities, how her husband's love and encouragement for her inspired the creation of the Davia Bouquet brand and how pouring her heart and soul into every detail of this heart-centered business continues to touch the hearts of her clients which in turn fills her with purpose and joy everyday.Behind those enchanting bouquets of dried flowers lies an equally beautiful and heartfelt story of hope, support, encouragement and love. Episode is now LIVE! Pull up a chair and come sit with me and Sylvia in this most honest, heart-centered conversation on how to hone into our resiliency and strength amidst change and how it is possible to live our most purposeful and true lives in our new homes away rom where home used to be. “When it comes down to self love and self compassion, you have to keep coming back to forgiveness, and empathy and love and say you know what, you're doing a good job; remember how far you've come.” Happy Friday, friends. This came a week later but I promise you, you don't want to miss it! I have the honor to connect and share space with Denise Michelle, a self love expert, a transformational coach, a rapid hypnotherapist and a fervent lover and teacher of a myriad of tools to help us humankind heal, thrive and live in alignment with our truest selves. Here are the takeaways:Breaking a pattern starts with a decision and a commitment Don't be afraid to ask for help; be willing to surrender to it It starts with acknowledging that something needs to change Lead, give and pour from a place of empathy and authenticity and people will be drawn to your vibe and energy Growth, especially our emotional and spiritual growth, isn't comfortable Stop should-ing yourself Find a support system that don't judge but that is conducive your growth Slow down to speed up; it's an ebb and flow Society has taught us to only look for the instant gratification; we often times tend to forget that it's about the journey and the process When we are not ready for the results, we can often times end up sabotaging the good things that happens to us 3 keys to start to align with your dreams: Embrace yourself for who you are; just observe, don't judge Make a decision, make a commitment Embrace your fears In this episode: Learn more about Denise and her amazing work with healing and self love on her website: www.bridgethelove.com Follow her entreprenurial journey and connect with her through: Facebook: denisemichellelove IG: denisemichellexoxoClubhouse: denisemxoxo. I took a break from the regular interview format and did a solo, quieter episode this week, sharing some of the overwhelm I've experienced of late and some self-soothing mechanisms and tips that helped held and heal me during those times. I hope this gave you insights, strength and reminder to take care of your one only body, mind and soul. I love you.
“It's the mind; you have to look inside, almost like explore the inner world, because lots of people don't, it's just because it's dark, it's unknown, it's secretive, it's scary.” An experienced veteran educator, passionate entrepreneur and International #1 Bestselling Author, Annie Hardock, is your one of a kind human being; her tenacity, strength and courage to overcome life's curveballs and lean into the richness of synchronicity are qualities that I both admire and wish to emulate.I also took a minute to share a notion, a saying that's been on my heart of late, shared a vulnerable story that came with it, and made space to channel that notion to you as well through a mini meditation-like moment. Episode is now LIVE! Pull up a chair and come sit with me and Annie in this soul-nourishing and high energy conversation on how to make lemonades out of the lemons life throws at you, on thriving, on living aligned with your purpose. I have the pleasure of connecting with Jona through our common pursuit and passion for podcasting and connecting with people and I couldn't be more grateful and honored for this conversation, one that I needed to hear myself, one that wrapped me up in warmth because I could relate, one the encouraged and inspired me to grow, to stay determined but also, be gentle with yourself on days when you aren't okay and miss home just a little more. Here are the takeaways:Life can be full of curveballs but if you begin looking for the silver linings and stay committed to your goals, opportunities will present itselfPerseverance, commitment and enthusiasm can often times trump the lack thereof experience Find communities that will support your goal and dreams When you really want something, the universe will conspire to help you achieve it, but make sure you also do your part to prepare for it and be ready for it when it happens Not every day will be a good day and it's okay Realize that creating new connections at a new place takes initiative and may require you stepping outside of your comfort zone When it comes to friendships, it's quality over quantity It can be overwhelming at first when you are being placed in a situation where you are forced to grow; be patient with yourself and trust your process We are resilient beings; not only will we survive, we can also thrive We all have a unique set of strengths. Know what they are, focus on them and use it to build confidence It all comes down to self-acceptance, self-awareness, establishing the right boundaries Jona's current mantra: “Instead of chasing butterflies, make a garden and attract them instead.” In this episode: Go give Jona some love and listen in to her newly launched podcast ‘She Dare To Lead' Spotify: http://spoti.fi/30K12pyApple Podcast: http://apple.co/30HGQo Jona's currently reading: Go Put Your Strengths At Work - Marcus Buckingham Here's the link to the Clifton Test Jona shared in this conversation which brought her clarity to what her strengths truly are: https://www.gallup.com/cliftonstrengths/en/252137/home.aspx Connect with me: Instagram: resilient.and.rooted Send your questions, thoughts, feedback and ideas to hello.resilientandrooted@gmail.com Are you an Asian female expat/migrant who's desiring meaningful & intentional connection and community with others like you? “They say when we're feeling nervous or fearful, often time, the flip side of that is excitement, excitement of the new possibilities we're expanding into and I definitely say, tap into that source of energy that's inside you; you have it in you.” What a delightful and encouraging conversation this was, one that was so relatable and one that left me feeling like I could give myself the permission and courage to not give up on pursuing and chasing my heart's desires despite the pressures stemming from our culture conditioning, norms and stereotypes. I love how young yet how in touch she is with her thoughts and feelings and how she was able to channel that into passion to help others just like her. Here are the takeaways:Inspiration can arrive in your life in different ways, shapes and forms; give it space and allow it to take you places Your pain can often times become your passionIt is your responsibility to live a life that's happy and fulfilled It's okay that your heart wants what it wants; trust it Be committed to doing the next right thing, don't worry about having to have it all figured from the start and it would lead you to the right placesSurround yourself with community that supports and motivates you towards your pursuit You attract what you are looking for. Trust that synchronicity existsAsk for forgiveness instead of permission Recognize that the advice-giving from parents comes from a place of concern and love and is meant to protect you In all relationships, communication is key to foster understanding and alignment in managing expectations Be gentle with yourself as you work through multiples pressures; take one step at a time The flip side of feeling nervous and fearful is excitement; tap into that source of energy inside you Realize that the cultural upbringing of those around you may not look like your own while living abroad; find what is right for you Lilia's current mantra: “Faith says even if” In this episode: Connect with Lilia and stay in touch with her content (check out her new podcast of the same name!) and upcoming programs through her website https://liberasian.com/ Join her Facebook Group “Brave Authenticity” and be part of her community Lilia's currently reading: You're A Badass At Making Money - Jen Sincero Connect with me: Instagram: resilient.and.rooted Send your questions, thoughts, feedback and ideas to hello.resilientandrooted@gmail.com Are you an Asian female expat/migrant who's desiring meaningful & intentional connection and community with others like you? Akin to the conversation we had, Juliana is nothing short of a bright, invigorating spark of a human being that I am beyond grateful I got to cross paths with and now call a friend, ally and cheerleader on this journey of being female and migrants to the country we live in. Originally from Brazil, Juliana has spent the past 5 years living in 2 vastly different countries, relocating as a result of her husband's career. In addition to navigating huge transitions moving across countries, she also navigated through marriage and having a baby in the midst of it. Having walked through the path of feeling lost and alone herself, she has now acquired the mindset and skills to live out her purpose and create her own success story in her new country and she is ready and passionate to help you find and create yours. Here are the takeaways:It's not the environment that create the life that you want; it's what you decide you want and then use the environment around me as tools to create this life Americans are like a peach; sweet on the outside, hard in the inside whereas Europeans are like coconut, hard on the outside and soft and sweet on the inside Often times, it's less about you; don't lay the entire weight of adapting to a new country, culture or society on yourself; be patient It's normal to feel overwhelmed when undergoing major changes in your life Consider talking and getting support from a therapist or mentors to walk with you through this process Connect with communities that are available; local, international, those from the similar countries/culture/language Be open to connect with others; start small In current times where the pandemic is still a real thing, consider checking out Facebook groups to connect with like-minded individuals For women living abroad, this idea of ‘distancing' is not foreign; we already have the skills to maintain connection with people who are physically afar You are resourceful; often times, you already know the answers Be present; each moment is an opportunity to learn a new lesson There is power in the now Don't be afraid to create the connections you want We attach our value to the things we are or the work we do but the real work is about finding your purpose and reconnecting to your values Be willing to let go in order to create the person you really are Juliana's current mantra: “Be the kindest person to yourself.” In this episode: Connect with Juliana and stay in touch with her life abroad in France, her upcoming website and group coaching program through her Instagram @coachingwomenabroadConnect with Juliana through her Linkedin Juliana's currently reading: Women Who Run With the Wolves: Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype - Clarissa Pinkola Estes Connect with me: Instagram: resilient.and.rooted Send your questions, thoughts, feedback and ideas to hello.resilientandrooted@gmail.com Are you an Asian female expat/migrant who's desiring meaningful & intentional connection and community with others like you? In this episode 10 of the podcast, I decided to take a break from the the regular interviews and took a moment to marinate in the encounters and conversations I have had this week with a couple of female coaches and entrepreneurs who are a very similar mission and good as me on this journey to support Asians and females living abroad which left me enlightened, inspired and grateful. I also took a moment to remember the Chinese Lunar New Year and the upcoming Valentines Day with some thoughts and feelings. “I'd say you are an individual. Someone else could be doing the same thing as you are but you are you, no one else can have your perspective, so just being able to be you and bring your perspective to your brand and product, that's how it's going to make you stand out and then market your brand towards that.” I has so much fun chatting with Van! I love the idea of inviting to the show Asian females who're aspiring small business owners at the same time and have this opportunity to dive into the brand's story and mission, feature their products and support industrious and fierce females towards living their dreams and fulfilling their purpose. Did you like it too? Let me know in the comments! Here are the takeaways: It is almost intrinsic in us as humans to want to serve and give and it may require less energy than you think is needed because you're inherently receiving while giving You don't need a degree to know business; it's about empathy, about how to treat your customers and making the effort to connect with them and give them a great experienceBe willing to learn and be a student Stay laser focused on your mission and purpose behind why you started and that will help you get through the harder days that makes you think about giving up The work of a small business owner requires hard work and is respectable When you support a small business, you are supporting someone else's dream Listen to your heart but be smart about it Be okay with failing You are you, no one else can have your perspective. Bring your perspective to your brand and marketing it towards that Van's favorite mantras: “Nothing worth it comes easy” and “This too shall pass” In this episode: Connect with Van, follow her journey as she build her small business, find out where you can find and meet her at upcoming markets in local Houston TX through her Instagram snd Facebook page with the same name @lotus.sky.botanicals Connect with me: Instagram: resilient_and_rooted Send your questions, thoughts, feedback and ideas to hello.resilientandrooted@gmail.com Are you an Asian female expat/migrant who's desiring connection and community with others like you? Honest, down to earth, pure, real, are but some of the words that came to my mind to describe this heartfelt conversation with Julianna. Our connection was one that, if not for the both us being open to welcome new connections into our lives by saying yes and being willing to shed our shields, ditch the small talk and connect with hearts open, it would not have had the opportunity to be sowed, much less the opportunity for others out there who needed help going through their own hard seasons that you're not alone in feeling resistance asking for help or battling mental health issues, and to hear that your story is as needed as the story of the person next to you. Here are the takeaways:Being aware is the first step towards the path of healing Binge-Eating disorder is another kind of eating disorder that is less known that the types we are more aware of; be mindful to not judge or negate the seriousness that can be involved with just what we are typically exposed to An easy “out” when dealing with problems is often to negate it The willingness to have hard conversations with loved ones can be necessary sometimes to heal from difficult situations and childhood wounds There's so much to be said about being heard and understood that is critical to healing Be curious instead of being judgmental and you'll see meaningful and nourishing connections develop The world is getting more saturated yet it's more lonely than ever Listen to your own truth and ask yourself “What do I really need?” The real only constant is yourself. Focus on you. Choose to go for what makes you proud. Work on filling your own cup and you will see how that will create positive ripples in the way you relate to others around you Julianna's favorite mantra: RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW. Happy Friday, friends! Welcome back to another episode and being here with me. You're in for a special one today! I have the honor to engage in a connected, uplifting conversation with Jas who is an expat currently living and working in Germany. Hearty and wholesome are ways I find myself using to describe this conversation, as we jived about this shared yet unique experience of uprooting our lives and moving abroad to countries very different from the one we were brought up in, as we shared stories of interesting occurrences and also exchange tips and advice on some steps we can take to better integrate and find joy in our new lives in new cities. I hope you'll find comfort and support through this conversation. I love you. Here are the takeaways:The detachment and feeling that you're stuck in an in-between zone between where you grew up in and the country you're living in now is real and it's okay to acknowledge it, feel it and process it Be patient with yourself Cultivate a healthy prospective with new friendships and being social be willing to socialize and invite new connections into your new life Find as many opportunities to connect with as many people as you can; a good tip: start by finding people who shares the same hobbies, interest Walk into the experience with an open heart and allow yourself to experience all of it; the good, bad, positive, negative; you just don't know who of these will become your new best friends Bake a cake on your first day to the office and create/initiate those conversations Take this as an opportunity to start over; a clean slate and to be unabashedly you without the lenses and pressures from your family, friends back homeStart unbecoming to become who you really are Sometimes, it's more the fear of asking others to step out of their comfort zone by being around you than it is about you not being likeable or you having an issue Show respect and enthusiasm by attempting to learn more about language, culture and habits; you will be appreciated for trying The relationship with your parents who loves her can feel stressful and charged at times, but never forget that their intent is always that you're happy and in a safe place Jas's favorite mantra: I AM UNIQUE. Happy Friday, friends! I'm coming solo to you this week pouring my heart out (some may call it ranting ;)) about my current state of mind, things I'm excited about this year, my conviction that now is your time to take center-stage to speak your story, and how being responsible puts you in control of the outcome you desire in any situation. Take care, friends. I love you. Here are the takeaways:No one's coming to save you. Instead, use your time and resources wisely and spend them on things, people, and events that fuel your heart and soul You have the ability to heal yourself and others, even if it's just 1 person Someone is waiting for you to tell her story and to give her permission to tell hers Be available Be mindful what you give your time and energy to; what you say yes to, you're saying no to something else The opposite is also true: With great responsibility comes great powerResponsibility = the ability to respondYou have the power to change the outcomes of what happened to you Think about and be grateful for what you have access to, to process your feelingsIn this episode: Women's Energy Network is an international organization created to support professional women in the energy industry, provide networking opportunities and exemplary programs to foster career and leadership development. Hello to your 1st Friday and 1st episode of 2021. I wished I could say that I hope it was a calm and peaceful start but, it has been a heavy week for the world and especially those of us in the U.S. I had planned to come on this week with a different content but I know we we can all use a little extra light and cheer this moment, so I decided to air this conversation I had with therapist and happiness coach, Jena Jake. Jena is one of the most high-spirited and strong humans I know and I love how she has a way to help you see the good in your everyday in such a raw, down to earth way while still taking care of you. I hope this episode brought a smile to your face and light into your heart. Take care, friends. I love you. Here are the takeaways:Find ways to change your vibration and you'll start seeing changes in your life The potential is already there in you; you just give it the form with your thoughts When dealing with change, celebrate it and the possibilities ahead of you Whenever 10 feels intimidating, figure out how to do it on a 5 or at a scale that you can handle and go from there The universe is not doing anything to you, but for you You're always the one you've been waiting for; nobody can do that for you Life starts on the other side of your comfort zone Go back to text messages, notes that family and friends sent you and write down what they say about you for yourself like an affirmation The key is you have to be a good receiver; welcome the intimacy In this episode: Connect with Jena through her Instagram and tune in to her ‘lunch time live' sessions at 11am Eastern Standard Time every day @jena.jake Check out her website jenajake.com to get to know her better and get access to her offerings, including her new membership ‘Celebration Nation' You can also get more of her awesome sauce and the amazing community she's built by joining her free Facebook Group ‘I Am My Happy Place' The books Jane is currently reading: The Man God Has For You: 7 Traits to Help You Determine Your Life Partner ~Stephan LabossiereThink And Grow Rich ~Napoleon HillThe Big Magic ~Elizabeth Gilbert Connect with me: Instagram: resilient.and.rooted Send your questions, thoughts, feedback and ideas to hello.resilientandrooted@gmail.com Are you an Asian female expat/migrant who's desiring connection and community with others like you? Here are the takeaways: The next time you hug, make it good and whole by letting it go least 20 seconds long because that's when feel-good oxytocin gets released Practise listening to understand instead of listening to respondAlways make space for conversations that aims to understand each other Approach with curiosity instead of judgement When a dialogue occurs, we create the chance to learn new information about that person and a chance to connect Setting healthy boundaries is a sign of love Lead by example Start small; keep these conversations in bite sizesIn this episode: Connect with Rachael through her Instagram: rachaeljaye.co Check out her intentional yet fun programs, offerings, quizzes through her website: marriagemvp.com The books Rachael is currently reading: Fiction: Ready Player One by Ernest ClineNon Fiction: Women Who run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola EstésIf you want to join the epic Book Club that's all about diving deep together into personal growth/self help reads, discuss ideas, take action and a constant reminder that you can only pour into others from a full cup, you can do that through the link to The Collective Pour through the link on Rachael's IG. It's Christmas. How surreal. Here you are, the courageous and resilient you, arriving here during a hard, strange year. If there is something I am almost certain we all can use a little more of and can give ourselves a little extra off, it's grace. So I encourage you to consider gifting yourself something that you need, be it just rest, taking a walk in nature, or just going technology-free for the rest of the holidays, do what you need to take care of yourself. I'm sending that reminder to myself as well as I spend another year away from my family in Singapore whom I miss. I also shared some thoughts and reflections of 2020 through my lens and also shared with you 2 inspirations I recently had. May you enjoy yourself a blessed, whole Christmas. Take a listen.
