This conversation is about high-performance training. We are all striving to perform at the highest levels in our domains. What can we do to improve our mental faculties. That's where Aditi Surana comes to the rescue. Recently, she coached the Femina Miss India 2022 finalists. In this conversation, we talk about the followingHow a dyslexic became a handwriting analystLearning from movies, Bollywood to understand your inner strengthBuilding and honing skills as a writer, podcasterThe Flow stateWhat's a high performance mindsetMental workoutsOur trigger points - mental and emotionalMental gymsAbout Aditi SuranaShe started early, first just seeing patterns in people's writing that corresponded to behavioural traits, almost 'reading between the lines' instead of on the line (didn't make her popular with school teachers) as she's dyslexic. Then analysing the handwriting for friends and family, and shortly thereafter, borne by her pioneering spirit, the regional management of a very popular coffee shop chain invited her to set up at their locations across Mumbai. She captivated her audience of students, professionals, businessmen and housewives alike, referred primarily by word of mouth, and later on her very own radio talk show (on Radio City) aged 22. As she honed her skill (& intuition), she realised that she could not only decipher a person through their handwriting but also objectively identify psychological constraints, and provide corrective measures. One thing led to the next and the HR head of IBM India & ISPAT (now JSW), gave her an opportunity to use this knowledge to better corporate practises like hiring, mentorship & coaching.  Overtime her bond with CEOs, CFOs and COOs strengthened and many interesting opportunities came her way, one of her favourites being the re-design of company logos to create a tangible shift in their growth. She's been featured in print, and on television media in India & globally, loves to travel (and does so quite often), currently resides in Mumbai and has clients all across the world. www.aditisurana.com

Have you ever considered mental fitness and what it is?  How is it different to mental health?  How is it different to therapy? We are joined today by Cory Chadwick, an optimist and mental fitness and mindset coach.  Cory is the founder of The Mental Gym.Driven by a desire to understand how things work and from a history of mental health issues in his family, Cory went on a journey of discovery to consider what mental fitness could mean.Standing in a CrossFit class it occurred to Cory that we work on our bodies at gyms, why do we not do the same thing with our brains.  Why don't we train our brains every day to build up mental fitness. This thought is what lead to the development of The Mental Gym and the concept of Living your 10. Considering on a scale of 1 to 10, do you want to just be satisfied with a 6 or 7 or do you want to live your 10?Mental fitness is about proactive exercise and wellness for our brains. Think of working out your mind the same way you would consider working out your body.  Doing it once or twice doesn't make you fit.  The secret here is consistency and working on it every week.If you treat your mental health like a lifestyle it will habitualise in a positive way just like brushing your teeth. As a leader we do need to consider our own mental fitness so we can perform at our best.  We also need to consider the mental health and wellbeing of the team members that we are responsible for taking due care of. We have a great responsibility as a leader. How we show up; how we treat other people has a huge impact on those around you.Treat people like they matter and they will matter.  Lead with your values and live by your values. Treat people with the respect they deserve.Showing up as your authentic self, being vulnerable and being human as a leader provides an environment where your team can also show up as their authentic self. This vulnerability builds great trust as your team see that you are indeed human and self-aware of what you are good at and what you are not.One key to mental fitness and health is live with purpose and intent. To look for sources of sustainable and renewable joy and fulfilment. We also discuss the power of optimism in the interview. David Miller is an Executive Director at Quilter Cheviot, where he manages over £1.1 bn pounds in client funds.  He has been in the investing business for over 40 years and and is the author of the 7 year old “Diary of a Fund Manager” weekly diary, which has a readership of over 15,000 across 57 countries.  Our conversation charts David's entry into finance and why it continues to be his passion and why he has returned to running money, after some spells managing people and teams. We start with how he accidentally fell into finance, after studying organic chemistry.  His investment beliefs have evolved over time, but he continues to be focused (perhaps deriving from his roots as a scientist) on empirical evidence, and does not believe that finance is a dark art, but is instead about engaging with the real world.  He speaks about his aversion to having too much "conviction" and certainty around market direction and asset classes. Given David's extensive experience in rendering advice, we compare working with individual clients to institutions, and how the attitude to risk, time horizon and capital preservation might be different. We move to talk about his writing - which he likens to "going to the mental gym" each week, and the sense of discipline and clarity that writing his thoughts down brings to him. This podcast is brought to you with the kind support of Pluscios Capital, a women-owned, WBENC certified investment management firm based in Evanston, IL. With over 60+ years of combined investment management experience, co-founders Constance Teska and Kelly Chesney are committed to the development of bespoke investment solutions on behalf of institutions and intermediaries. In addition to broadly diversified core and catalyst solutions, Pluscios provides hands on product development support and custom solutions with a focus on diversity-led and emerging managers.

On the #heartopenconversasians podcast today, I have the pleasure of holding space for the story and entrepreneurial journey of a new-found friend, a passionate ally, and thought leader on mindset, alignment and breakthroughs, Benjamin Yeh. Benjamin is a Business and Transformation Coach. His passion is helping others unlock their inner and outer breakthroughs through his coaching and Boom Vision Podcast, a show designed for driven professionals and entrepreneurs seeking clarity, purpose and happiness! Through Boom Vision, Ben shares his unique vantage points, holistic practicality in business & life, and action steps on how people can bridge the gap between outer success and inner happiness. Ben's core values are to inspire, love and impact and his career has evolved from being a real estate consultant, investment officer for a family office where he invested over $1 billion dollars, a serial entrepreneur, a father, advisor/coach and a student of life.  Coining this episode to be one that's by far filled to the seams with nuggets of wisdom, relatable analogies, and deep dives is a true understatement. The transformational coaching arena is wide and aplenty, but what stood out for me in Ben, is his resolution to commit to bringing to life, content and ideologies he wished he had access to in his earlier phases, is his ability to weave in his personal and lived experiences along with brilliant references and quirky analogies, to break down our complex deep inner worlds and minds into learnable, applicable pieces to our outer worlds and surroundings. In this episode: Watch the movie ‘Sneakers' - highly recommended by Ben! Connect with and learn more about Ben's story and coaching offerings through his website: https://www.benjaminyeh.comListen to the BOOM VISION Podcast on https://podcasts.apple.com/.../boom-vision/id1582728414Follow Ben on IG @ @benjaminyehIf you're a fellow entrepreneur and wish to collaborate or be interviewed as a guest on Ben's podcast, feel free to reach out to him; he would love to connect! Ben is currently reading: Happy Money by Ken Honda Current mantra that is guiding Ben: “Embrace who you are, embody who you want to become.”  Come say hello and hang out with me here: Instagram: heartopenconvers_asiansHave a question, thought or feedback to share? Toxic people will even go so far as to tell you what you feel or think, or at a minimum, what they think you should do, think feel, and want. You’ve noticed that, I’m sure. Don’t let them do that. They want to define your reality for you. If you let them, they will take over your life.Focus on saying YES! to yourself. What do you want? What do you value? What is OK with you?How do you want to be treated? What is your vision for your life? How do you want to feel in relationships? What do you believe and how are you demonstrating that? You have the absolute right to do your life your way! Therefore, you need to learn to say no to others sometimes, and learn to say yes to yourself more often. That's usually what's required to regain your balance.MORE ABOUT LAURA RUBINSTEIN: Laura Rubinstein is a Certified Hypnotherapist, Master Leadership Coach, Bestselling Author, and award winning Social Media and Marketing Strategist.
