On this episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, it's time for us to hold ourselves accountable-- again!-- for all we predicted and projected way, way, way, way, way, way back in the summer of 2019. Elan and Brian have compared their 2019-20 NHL fantasy skater projections against what actually ended up happening. In last week's show, we looked at players who exceeded our expectations by the most; this week, we look at the players whose output was closest to our projections, working to learn whether we were really good or just lucky. We then move on to doing our best to explain and understand the players who underperformed our projections by the greatest amount. We revisit direct quotes (and arguments) from our 2019-20 Audio Almanac and look under the hood to see if we were wrong to be so high on a player, or if a player was wrong to score so many fewer points than they should have. Dropping by with a later-than-usual release but we're here for episode 12! Our focus on the Chip and Chase Fantasy Podcast is on dynasty fantasy hockey and we hope to bring you some deeper conversations about fantasy hockey strategy and techniques to mine information that may not be as immediately apparent to other players around you.In this episode we cover NHL news and notes with maybe our longest list of injuries and transactions yet. We also spend maybe too much time talking about the Seattle TBDs, but the expansion process is all kinds of exciting. Then we take a deep dive on Alex Radulov of the Dallas Stars. We skipped the second feature today because Souriyo spent too long talking about socks. Our dynasty corner this week continues the series where we talk about trading and roster building and how that changes given the state of a roster, this time for a contending team. Special guests include socks, salmon, and an only slightly agitated Souriyo. If you like what you hear, please give us a follow on twitter, a rate and review on your podcast aggregator, share and let us know what you think! You can reach out to us @candchockey on Twitter or via email at chipandchasepod@gmail.com. You can also reach Souriyo personally on Twitter @sassclown and find Jesse's work at https://mondaythursdaydynastysports.com/ or @monday_thursday.Thanks for tuning in and we hope you enjoy!

The guys recorded a little early this week, missing out all of the hot PTO signings late in the week. However, they were able to talk about the Flames' signing of Sam Bennett and preview the Central division. - We learn that starting the show by talking about the Colorado Avalanche is a bad idea if we want Carl to be in a good mood. The Avalanche have to be better than last year (right?), but are they still the worst in the league? - The Dallas Stars have a new goalie (Ben Bishop) and an expensive new winger (Alex Radulov). Can this return them to the division title they held two years ago? - The Winnipeg jets have a new goalie (Steve Mason) and an incredibly talented young center (Mark Scheifele). Can this return them to the playoffs? - We all know those teams that we always think are better than they actually perform. The St. Louis Blues are one of them. Will Jake Allen live up to the expectations finally? - The Nashville Predators were surprise Stanley Cup finalists. Now what? - Aside from the acquisition of Tyler Ennis, the Minnesota Wild maintained status quo. It worked well enough before. Don't mess with success, right? - The Chicago Blackhawks continue to re-tool and adjust to pay for their expensive stars. When does the run end? In our season finale until our inevitable summer editions, Greg and Dave break down all the big free agent signings in the NHL, from Kevin Shattenkirk to Alex Radulov to Karl Alzner; the state of the Washington Capitals; the Ilya Kovalchuk affair; new contracts for Carey Price and Connor McDavid; cheap old players; a steroids in baseball debate; Pierre McGuire gets even weirder; the big changes at Fox Sports 1; a massive disagreement over BABY DRIVER (warning: spoilers, so skip ahead if needed) and reader mail that covers food and the best and worst of Greg’s impressions. Presented by Audible!
Mike Heika thinks Alex Radulov will be a very good fit on a line with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin, given the skillsets all three have. Mike says the Stars have a good plan going again, and the big three additions of Radulov, Methot, Bishop can quickly push this team back into the playoffs
Andrew Berkshire joins the show to help 'adopt' the Montreal Canadiens, and answer the ultimate question of whether or not they're better equipped for success in the postseason than in year's past now that they're less reliant on Carey Price's brilliance. Here’s a quick rundown of the topics covered: f1:45 How bad goaltending did Ken Hitchcock in 9:10 Carey Price's uncharacteristic struggles 13:00 Alex Radulov's puck possession dominance 18:30 Marc Bergevin's savvy minor moves 21:04 Shot metrics vs. Goal metrics on the Power Play 26:10 Has Shea Weber been what you were expecting? 32:00 Possible trade deadline maneuvering Every episode of the podcast is available on iTunes, Soundcloud, and Stitcher. The Athletic's Sean Shapiro joins Elan to explain how a high-octane offense sputtered for large stretches, which of the core producers has the best chance to reclaim lost scoring, how coaching and line combos factored into the bottom line, the way the blueline will shake out between two capable power-play quarterbacks, and which younger players and prospects are going to need to emerge to keep the team competitive.Follow Sean on Twitter @seanshapiro, and check out his work at The Athletic.Read Sean's article on what would happen if the Stars, Cowboys and Mavericks all played each other.Check out Sean's book, 100 Things Stars Fans Should Know & Do Before They Die. It's all over but the crying-- tears of championship joy, we hope, as we tie a bow on the 2018-19 Fantasy Hockey season in this new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Hockey podcast! We recount the MVPs and L(east)VPs of your fantasy playoff matchups, and search within the last two weeks for signs of things to come next year. We also try to divine a lesson or two that we can learn about managing our teams through the season and into the playoffs to help us get even better for next year. Then, it's time for some classic experimental KK action, where Elan and Brian share their thoughts and predictions on the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs the only way they know how: a live fantasy draft of their teams for the annual Keeping Karlsson Playoff Patron Box Pool (KKPPBP). They also drop tidbits of fantasy playoff philosophy along the way. Listen and feel the thrill as they recite the names of the players in each box, and then offer their semi-coherent reasoning for liking one more than the rest. Even better, join the pool yourself by becoming a patron (at any level! even $1) of Keeping Karlsson for the duration of the playoffs. And, fear not: Elan and Brian will still be bringing you brand new episodes of Keeping Karlsson all through the playoffs and summer, as they always do! Stick with us for all the hindsight, foresight, and continued analysis of the latest NHL news and notes that'll help you get set to win your pool (again??) next year. Episodes will be released bi-weekly, which means you can expect the next one to land on your device on April 22. Players discussed on this episode include Anthony Mantha, Tyler Bertuzzi, Dylan Larkin, Andreas Athanasiou, Filip Hronek, Taro Hirose, Filip Zadina, Oliver Bjorkstrand, David Savard, Josh Anderson, Zach Werenski, Leon Draisaitl, David Pastrnak, Alex Radulov, Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn, Mikhail Sergachev, Dougie Hamilton, Sergey Bobrovsky, Darcy Kuemper, Jack Campbell, Alex Georgiev, Philipp Grubauer, Patrik Laine, Elias Lindholm, Elias Pettersson, Brock Boeser, Ryan Suter, Shayne Gostisbehere and more. * * * Like what you hear? Dear Yahoo! Fantasy Hockey, We here at the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast really appreciate your pre-draft rankings. Not that we have any intention on following them! But we do enjoy ripping them to shreds, and then balling them up like newspaper to feed our fantasy analysis fire. On this episode of the show, Elan and Brian romp through Yahoo's 2016-17 pre-draft rankings and rattle off the myriad players that you need to bump down or ratchet up your draft lists. Will Mikko Rantanen meet high expectations in year one? Has Radko Gudas metamorphosed into an offensive force? Can the league's best five-on-five goal-scoring team continue being that after losing their best player to injury? Is there a chance for the newly-signed Hampus Lindholm to actually do anything on a crowded Anaheim blueline? How are Talbot, Dubnyk, and Rask doing so well? Is it time to rename the Habs' powerplay after one of its featured players? Hanifin or Matheson or Severson? And what about Carlson and the other slumping superstars in Washington? And Nashville!? Too early for a holiday-related episode title? This brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast makes no apologies! This week's edition kicks off with injuries, where we pause to consider how the Montreal Canadiens put up a ten-spot without two of their top three centremen, as well as how anything good can happen in Arizona with a key component of their first line gone for a while. And yes, Martin Hanzal is healthy.. There's much more happening in outjuries, where we've got a Predator and Senator goal-scorers whose gamelogs aren't all that dissimilar to when they were injured, a reliable top-sixer getting his spot back in Washington, and a masked Red Wing who'll be looking to regain the pre-injury form that had eluded him for a long, long, long, long while. Speaking of goalies, weirdness continues to pervade keeper numbers and performances and tandems around the league, with a sudden extended rest for a legendary Ranger tendy, an apparent attempt at a tandem in Colorado, a turn away from a heretofore #1 in Winnipeg, and Cory Schneider doing his best Cam Ward impression. Cold streaks this week sweep through an entire Metropolitan squad, key components of an Atlantic team, a couple guys named Zach, and a usually reliable King. Hot streaks include a guy Brian called a snoozer last week, a guy Elan called a snoozer last week, a still kind of hopeless buy maybe not Cap, a Cap tease, as well as a less hopeless Cap, a Blue and an Oiler who find themselves this week's beneficiaries of their teams' usual line shuffling, a bunch of Islanders(!?), a former Isle, and two Penguins d-men who Brian will again tell you not to rush to pick up. Players featured on this episode include Alex Galchenyuk, Tomas Plekanec, Antti Raanta, Henrik Lundqvist, Max Domi, James Neal, Filip Forsberg, Viktor Arvidsson, TJ Oshie, Evgeni Kuznetsov, John Carlson, Bobby Ryan, Petr Mrazek, Jimmy Howard, Marcus Johansson, Radim Vrbata, Tobias Rieder, Anthony DeAngelo, Michael Stone, Mike Smith, Chet Pickard, Semyon Varlamov, Pekka Rinne, Michael Hutchinson, Connor Hellebuyck, Cory Schneider, Keith Kinkaid, Victor Rask, Derek Ryan, Jaccob Slavin, Max Pacioretty, Brendan Gallagher, Zach Parise, Mikko Koivu, Eric Staal, Zach Werenski Andrew Shaw, David Desharnais, Alex Radulov, Paul Byron, Philip Danault, Tyler Toffoli, Sam Gagner, Marian Gaborik, Jonathan Drouin, Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat, Steve Mason, Michal Neuvirth, Robby Fabbri, John Tavares, Josh Bailey, Anders Lee, Frans Nielsen, Justin Schultz, Ian Cole, Drake Caggiula and more. It's the holiday edition of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast, which is to say that it's exactly the same as all the others! Perhaps next week, when the podcast takes the week off, is the true holiday edition.. (take note: our next regular episode comes at you on January 8th). Unwanted holidays begin our show, as Elan and Brian unwrap the effects of injuries around the NHL, including a couple of tender tenders in Tampa and Detroit, a shelved blueliner also in Detroit, and infirm top six forwards in New York and St. Louis. Returns from unwanted holidays follow, with kudos being handed out to a back-to-backup goalie in Chicago, best wishes to a Bruin forward edging his way out of the doghouse, and a couple of Hurricanes whose output will likely remain limited by their locale. Then, it's on to players gone AWOL, who've taken holidays without permission or approval from anyone. The guys lament the scoresheet absences of the next best Oiler after McDavid, a bandaid boy Blue, a couple of Habs, and the Sabre who was supposed to fix everything. We put a bow on this edition by saluting those players working overtime for your fantasy team, with four Blue Jackets, three Minnesota Wild, two Calgary Flames, and a Leafs goalie on a hot streak. Players featured on this episode include Alex Wennberg, Cam Atkinson, Jordan Eberle, Mark Letestu, Matt Dumba, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Brian Elliott, Matthew Tkachuk, Frederik Andersen, Petr Mrazek, Anthony Mantha, Shea Weber, Alex Radulov, Jack Eichel, Jimmy Howard, Jared Coreau, Ben Bishop, Kristers Gudlevskis, Mike Green, Rick Nash, Kyle Palmieri, Brandon Pirri, Mika Zibanejad, Derek Stepan, Ryan Sproul, Paul Stastny, Alex Steen, Corey Crawford, Scott Darling, David Pastrnak, Ryan Spooner, Frank Vatrano, Elias Lindholm, Derek Ryan, Eddie Lack, Patrick Maroon, Leon Draisaitl, Jason Zucker, Eric Staal, Niklas Kronwall, Brian Rafalski, Cory Schneider and more. Cross your heart and say your prayers, it's another cuss-free episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! This week, Elan and Brian are feeling just peachy about the healthy returns of an apparent #1 goalie and a top line winger in Detroit, the apparently brief return of the Ducks' #1 goalie, and the hopefully fruitful return of a top line Canadien. But doggone it, even more players are off to the infirmary this week. The guys talk about the lineup and fantasy implications of injuries to a Metro starting goalie who was probably in need of rest anyway, a laundry list of Penguins, a struggling Panthers blueliner, a couple key pieces of Ottawa's top six, and a few key pieces of Tampa Bay's top nine. Bless the players whose production we can be thankful for, including a non-squeaky wheel in Philadelphia, several nondescript forwards in Carolina, a promoted hitter in Washington, a pair of persisting depth scorers in Columbus, and one of this year's stealthier breakouts. And, of course, we trust the hockey gods will shepherd back those players who may have lost their way, including a number one goalie not living up to his elite billing, and a King who is struggling far more than we'd anticipated. Players discussed on this episode include Jimmy Howard, Petr Mrazek, Gustav Nyquist, Henrik Zetterberg, James Reimer, Steve Mason, Sami Vatanen, Patrik Eaves, Ryan Getzlaf, John Gibson, Jonathan Bernier, Jhonas Enroth, Rickard Rakell, Alex Radulov, Henrik Lundqvist, Antti Raanta, Magnus Hellberg, Jake Guentzel, Connor Sheary, Patric Hornqvist, Carl Hagelin, Aaron Ekblad, Michael Matheson, Jason Demers, Jaromir Jagr, Jonathan Marchessault, Thomas Vanek, Jussi Jokinen, Reilly Smith, Kyle Turris, J.G. Welcome to the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast's sesquicentennial episode! The free agent frenzy has slowed to a trickle, but we are bursting with takes on how player production around the league will be affected. Of course, our analysis goes beyond just the player that has moved-- we go up and down depth charts to scope out roster-wide effects, including the blue lines, top sixes, creases and power-play units in New York, Washington, New Jersey, Dallas, Buffalo, Florida, Detroit, Los Angeles and Toronto, to name a few. The last couple weeks have also seen plenty of address changes for goaltenders, which means a handful of new tandems and new opportunities for goalies to push and be pushed for playing teams. Elan and Brian name the 'tenders who are better off for their move, others who should be looking over the shoulder, and still others who could be platooning from the get-go-- particularly in Winnipeg and Philadelphia. Remember, we've got our summer patronage special on from now til September: become a $1 patron of the show, and you'll get the full slate of $5 patron perks, including access to the famous patrons-only Facebook group! Like a new baby being born into the world, Elan and Brian are pushing out a brand new episode of the Keeping Karlsson Fantasy Hockey Podcast! This week's show begins by sizing up most impactful and relevant players who've flown the coop since the trade deadline, and the players they may have displaced. This includes a visit to Washington and St. Louis's even strength and powerplay blueline setups, the blue paint situations for the Lightning and Kings, the top nine in Minnesota and Boston, defensive depth in Pittsburgh, and a couple floaters in Ottawa. The guys then shed light on those who've come out bruised and/or battered, including Florida's sort-of-but-not-so-much-anymore #1 goalie, a Devil we know, a Sabre that had just gotten rolling, and a Star that never really had a chance. We also pontificate on the healthy return of an Isle blueliner. Some players are hot this week! They include a lower-key sophomore and a once again promising forward in Buffalo, a couple Taylor Hall linemates, a Habs goalie who may also just be considered as being back to normal, a Flames goalie who we wonder whether this might be his normal, and a Calgary d-man who we wish it still could be his normal. Some players are cold this week. They include a top six Penguin who otherwise looks fantastic, a sobering season by a Coyotes defenseman that has cut back on taking shots, a Canes blueliner still taking shots but not getting anywhere, a New York top six/niner who has lost his early season sheen, and a couple of Avs forwards whose performances personify the mess in Colorado.Players discussed on this episode include Jonathan Quick, Ben Bishop, Peter Budaj, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Martin Hanzal, Kevin Shattenkirk, John Carlson, Matt Niskanen, Alex Pietrangelo, Colton Parayko, Alex Steen, Mark Streit, Connor Sheary, Chris Kunitz, Sidney Crosby, Patric Hornqvist, Valtteri Filppula, Steve Mason, Drew Stafford, Michal Neuvirth, Ryan Spooner, Frank Vatrano, Alex Burrows, Viktor Stalberg, Roberto Luongo, James Reimer, Thomas Vanek, Kyle Okposo, Evander Kane, Ryan O'Reilly, Jack Eichel, Michael Cammalleri, Travis Zajac, Kyle Palmieri, Taylor Hall, Antoine Roussel, Jason Spezza, Jiri Hudler, Ales Hemsky, Travis Hamonic, Josh Ho-Sang, Nate Prosser, Nick Leddy, Johnny Boychuk, Carey Price, Alex Radulov, Brian Elliott, Michael Ferland, Mark Giordano, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Mike Smith, Louis Domingue, Justin Faulk, Jacob Slavvin, Brett Pesce, Noah Hanifin, Matt Duchene, Gabriel Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon, Mika Zibanejad and more. * * * Download this episode, subscribe, and review us on iTunes!
