I Am is the spell of creation. It is divinity itself, it is creation." - Jim CurtisJim Curtis reveals a transformative one-minute self-hypnosis technique that anyone can practice daily to quiet the critical mind and access states of peace, abundance, and expansion. Through his own journey of discovering the power of hypnotherapy, Jim shares how constantly living in our critical mind keeps us trapped in states of fear, planning, and anxiety—preventing us from experiencing our true essence of love, joy, and wholeness. When we release the grip of our analytical mind, we can access profound states of relaxation where powerful self-affirmations begin with "I Am." Jim demonstrates this simple yet effective breathing technique that allows listeners to bypass their critical thinking and tap directly into their subconscious, where they can plant seeds of empowerment and emotional regulation. By practicing just 60 seconds of self-hypnosis daily, you can transform your mental state and reprogram limiting beliefs into expansive truths.Sign up for the Greatness newsletter: http://www.greatness.com/newsletter

Get my New York Times Bestselling book, Make Money Easy!I was captivated by Jim Curtis's profound insight that most of our limitations are self-created "mind traps" we fall into without realizing it. As a master hypnotherapist who overcame decades of debilitating nerve pain, Jim shared how our negativity bias, confirmation bias, and the "backfire effect" keep us stuck in patterns that no longer serve us. The conversation revealed how Jim's own healing journey took him from a wheelchair to wholeness by shifting his focus from what was broken to what was possible. What struck me most was his practical demonstration of self-hypnosis that anyone can use to quiet the critical mind and reconnect with their true "I am" state. All public school teachers are not created equal. They have different talents, teaching styles, and skills. They have different backgrounds and purposes that drive them. Jim Curtis is one of those supreme educators with his students and colleagues in mind. He served during the devastation of Hurricane Andrew in 1992 with us, because his students were going and he wanted to be apart of what they were doing. That is waaaaay over the required work of a teacher! We slept on the floor of a church and served in harsh conditions during an impossible situation. In this episode, Jim shares he and his wife's experience during our missions trip to South Florida to assist the people of that area that were affected by this natural disaster. He is one of those teachers I loved to be around. I had the privilege of sitting in his classroom on many occasions and was captivated each and every time. Jim is also an avid world traveler... the long time Geography educator and visionary living and experiencing what he teaches on! We also dive into his many world travels and experiences that fueled his passion for the educational teaching path he chose. Enjoy this episode as we navigate through Jim's incredible life experiences, as well as, his personal take on past and present education within the school systems. _______________________________ Looking for a new student ministry resource? You can read my book “Burn Up Not Out: A Student Ministry Fire Builder's Guidebook” here: https://amzn.to/3PtBTIy Listen to more episodes from the Youth Worker On Fire Podcast here: https://bit.ly/3saDyYq _______________________________ EPISODE CREDITS Email us at: youthworkeronfire@gmail.com Hosted by: Doug Edwards Theme Song: "The One and Only" by The 808 : Listen to more at https://bit.ly/3FTYIAJ Intro/Outro Voiceover: Michael Helms : https://www.youtube.com/@MichaelTheSoundGuy  Edited by: Secret Roots Music House

There is no one size fits all for health. As the Institute for Integrative Nutrition's (IIN) business and community leader and head coach, Jim Curtis has his finger on the pulse of exactly what's happening in wellness. He believes that when we adopt a holistic approach to nourishing our minds and bodies, we can feel our best individually and collectively.  While the food you eat makes a big difference, your health is determined by much more than what's on your plate. You must also nourish the areas of your life that feed your soul, including positive relationships, a fulfilling career, and finding joy and purpose.  This is the concept of integrative nutrition – the integration of all dimensions of your well-being to achieve true health and happiness.   In this episode, you'll learn:  How IIN paved the way in integrative nutrition for the last 30 years  The way food changes everything from your mind to your body to your mood The major cause of inflammation and how to reduce it An approach to get your family and friends to be part of your healthy lifestyle Why bio-individuality is the key to listening to your unique body The biggest wellness trends for 2023 (They're good!) This is a re-edited version of an episode I had finished and ready to go when the RIAA brought the smackdown in August 2020.  An answer song is a song made in response to a previous song, normally by another artist. The concept became widespread in blues and R&B recorded music in the 1930s to the 1950s. Answer songs were also extremely popular in country music in the 1950s and 1960s, most often as female responses to an original hit by a male artist. In Rock Eras: Interpretations of Music and Society, Jim Curtis says that: "Answer songs rode on the coattails, as it were, of the popularity of the first song, and resembled parodies in that their success depended on a knowledge of the original. Answer songs were usually one-hit flukes by unknown singers whose lack of identity did not detract from the success of the record since only the song, and not the performer, mattered." The Russian Revolution is thought to have everything to do with the writings of Karl Marx. He predicted in the 19th century that history was marching inevitably toward a proletarian revolution and workers would overthrow the capitalist system and replace it with a socialist one. To many observers in Moscow, that's exactly what was happening. But one Russian scholar disagrees. He believes the Russian Revolution had nothing to do with Marx and everything to do with, paradoxically, the Russian Orthodox Church. Namely, Russia's century-old history of Orthodox monasticism. Today's guest is Jim Curtis, a Russian scholar, professor emeritus, and author of In Stalin's Soviet Monastery. The story begins with the young Iosif Djugashvili, later known as Joseph Stalin, who was studying to be a priest in an Orthodox seminary. He took on the role that defined his political career, that of a sadistic elder who imposed fiendish vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience on hapless Soviet citizens. This led to Stalin's policies essentially copying passion-suffering, a practice in which one takes on the sufferings of Christi to achieve sanctification, which he used to force gulag slave labor to work on useless infrastructure projects to purify them as a proper Soviet.Applying Russia's heritage of Orthodox monasticism to Soviet history gives coherence and meaning to what is often portrayed as a chaotic and contradictory period. Thus, by ignoring Marxist rhetoric and emphasizing Russia's monastic heritage, it arguably makes sense that Russians would perceive Lenin as a Christ figure with appropriate symbolism.

Coming to the table with Miss Liz is Jim Curtis Ph.D. as we have an open discussion on foreign languages. Why they are not being taught in the education system. A topic that may bring strong opinions and disagreements but a topic that needs awareness. The importance of language. February 9th, 3 PM EST A little on Jim Curtis BIO: Jim Curtis received his BA in German from Vanderbilt University and his Ph.D. in Russian from Columbia University. He taught Russian at the University of Missouri-Columbia for 31 years and is now a Professor Emeritus from that institution. Dr. Curtis is the author of numerous books and articles. His most recent book is "Stalin's Soviet Monastery. A New Interpretation of Russian Politics." His book "The Coherence of the Russian Classics. Essays on the Dynamics of Creativity" will come out in the spring of 2022. While Dr. Curtis was at the University of Missouri, he won numerous teaching awards. His first teaching award came for his outstanding teaching in Russian I, which was one of his favourite courses. Perhaps because he grew up in a working-class family and was the first person in his family to attend college, he felt a kinship with his students, who often came from small towns in Missouri. This sense of kinship manifested itself in dissatisfaction with the way foreign languages are taught in America. As a result, he developed some radical ideas for Russian--ideas that are applicable to other languages as well. When people--especially native speakers--teach foreign languages, their basic attitude is, "Here it is--learn it. I can speak it--why can't you?" It's no wonder that American students dislike taking foreign languages, and rapidly forget what they've learned. One word: Surprising Why? In addition to his expertise in the Russian language and culture, Dr. Curtis is also an expert on popular music and does experimental photography. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/misslizsteatimes/message

In this episode, Lindy Hughson, managing editor & publisher of PKN Packaging News, talks with Dr Kim Borg from the Monash Sustainable Development Institute's research enterprise Behaviour Works Australia, about the recent research into the impact of tailored messaging on consumers' approach to single-use plastics. The research study was led by Dr Borg, along with colleagues Professor Jo Lindsay and Dr Jim Curtis and was conducted among 1,001 Victorian adults to determine how media content about plastic could influence perceptions, intentions and behaviours of two groups — ‘plastic users' and ‘plastic avoiders'.This in-depth interview not only aims at finding out the why and how behind the research but also discusses the intriguing results. Dr Borg explains the process of ensuring the results would be conclusive, including deducing different types of consumers and assessing various communication tactics on them. The conversation turns to considering the effect that COVID-19 has had in reversing the trend to reusable packaging, due to the increased use of single-use plastic products for takeaway products driven by the hygiene-first ideology. We wrap the episode with recommendations for environmental communicators on messaging against unnecessary and problematic (difficult to recycle) single-use plastics and introducing positive change for society. The research findings have been published in the paper Targeted Change: Using Behavioral Segmentation to Identify and Understand Plastic Consumers and How They Respond to Media Communications in the journal Environmental Communication which can be found at: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/17524032.2021.1956558------------------------------The PKN Podcast is produced by Southern Skies Media on behalf of PKN Packaging News, owned and published by Yaffa Media. The views of the people featured on this podcast do not necessarily represent the views of PKN Packaging News, Yaffa Media, or the guest's employer. RELEASE Writer Jim Curtis Announces the Publication of Decoding Dylan. Making Sense of the Songs that Changed Modern Culture (ISBN 978-1-4766-7845-0), from McFarland Publishers, a book that offers a fundamentally new interpretation of the great songs from the sixties that made Bob Dylan a legend and revolutionized American popular music.   In place of the traditional image of Dylan the classic sixties rebel, Decoding Dylan draws on Dylan’s own revelations in his memoir Chronicles as well as numerous facts from the New York cultural scene to show that Dylan was a serious craftsman who worked hard at mastering songwriting. Not contend with the usual verse-and-chorus structure of rock songs, he continually experimented with stanza and rhyme forms.  Dylan’s early years in New York gave him cultural experiences that he could not have imagined while back in Minnesota. He discovered French Symbolist poets like Charles Baudelaire, whose challenging, disturbing poems made him impatient with the good-hearted but limited folk songs of people like Peter Seeger. When Suze Rotolo, Dylan’s first girlfriend in New York, took him to see Picasso’s paintings at the Museum of Modern Art, he was blown away—so much so that he says in Chronicles that he wanted to be like Picasso. Dylan has never said anything like that about any other artist. It was artists like Baudelaire and Picasso that Dylan had in mind when he called his epoch-making 1965 album Bringing It All Back Home.  As many American artists before him had done, Dylan undertook the task of assimilating European high culture and translating it into a distinctly American idiom. Many people have called Dylan a mystical poet, and with good reason. His great songs “Mr. Tambourine Man”; “Desolation Row”; and “Visions of Johanna” form a trilogy that begins on a “windy beach” and ends with the explosion of consciousness. Author Jim Curtis is a bridge-builder. He builds bridges between regions and cultures, just as Dylan does. He grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi, and saw his hometown hero Elvis perform live there. Seeing Elvis gave him a life-long commitment to rock and roll, so he wrote a book Rock Eras. Interpretations of Music and Society, 1954-1984. But rock and roll and popular culture are only part of who he is. He also has a PhD in Russian, and has written a lot about Russian literature. He can’t think of any reason not to enjoy both Leo Tolstoy and Elvis Presley, and he wants to persuade other people that they can enjoy both of them too! Curtis says, “You’ll never think about Dylan in the same way after you read this book!”
