Alexis Hejna and Jason Teasley present their Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 1 Review! Percy Jackson and the Olympians is an American fantasy television series created by Rick Riordan and Jonathan E. Steinberg for Disney+, based on the book series of the same name by Riordan. Walker Scobell stars as Percy Jackson, alongside Leah Sava Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri.Development on the series began in May 2020, following a pitch by Riordan to Disney Branded Television. Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz were announced as showrunners in July 2021, with James Bobin hired to direct the first episode in October. Disney's Percy Jackson and the Olympians star Aryan Simhadri joins The Art of Kindness with Robert Peterpaul to discuss playing Grover, positive moments on set with the cast and more. Aryan Simhadri is a performer with credits spanning stage and screen. A California native, the talent has been seen in films like Netflix and WWE's The Main Event and television series such as NBC's Will & Grace. The big mouse loves Aryan - huh huh! He's been a part of many Disney projects over the years. Recently including, the Disney+ reboot of “Cheaper By The Dozen” alongside Zach Braff and Gabrielle Union, and Spin, the first Disney Channel Original Movie to feature a Southeast Asian-Indian lead cast.  Aryan also starred in a filmed version of the off-Broadway production of Trevor: The Musical, which was later released on Disney+. He got to flex his improv skills when he was cast on Disney's “Just Roll With It” and has carved out a vibrant voiceover career, with credits like Disney's Mira, The Royal Detective. While we're on the Disney monorail here, we should probably park to talk about Aryan's biggest role to date: He plays the ‘Grover' in the Disney+ series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” based on the popular “Percy Jackson” novels by Rick Riordan, which I used to devour growing up. Uniting with other children of the gods, Percy and his friends set out on a quest to prevent an all-out war that could threaten an unwitting humanity. In this 1on1, we speak to stars Scobell, Leah Jeffries and Aryan Simhadri about the power of mythology, determining 'monsters' and how to respond to bullying.

Les fans de Rick Riordan seront conquis·es, Percy Jackson est de retour au meilleur de sa forme. Si la trilogie de films avait ses hauts et ses bas, elle a toujours été très appréciée en adaptant l'une des sagas littéraires les plus adorées des années 2000. Le premier tome, Le voleur de foudre, pose les prémisses de l'histoire de Percy Jackson : qui il est, d'où il vient, quel genre de jeune héros du haut de ses 12 ans il représente. Disney+ propose une série familiale qui vient décortiquer la mythologie grecque avec une quête fantastique créée par Jonathan E. Steinberg (Black Sails, etc.) mais avec la présence de Riordan à l'écriture et en temps que co-créateur. On rappelle l'histoire, Percy Jackson voit des choses bizarres dans la vie. Mis en marge à l'école, il ne peut compter que sur sa mère et son meilleur ami Grover. Mais quand il apprend qu'il est en fait un demi-dieu, sa vie va être chamboulée. Surtout qu'il va être mêlé au conflit entre Zeus et ses frères… La saison commence le 20 décembre sur Disney+ pour huit épisodes. https://youtu.be/S9dIYPEmVak?si=6-PRVUrWC6ce448f Dès les premières minutes de la série, on est plongé aux côtés de Percy et de sa mère dans ce que l'imagination peut offrir. Exit Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario et Brandon T. Jackson, découvrez les nouveaux visages d'une nouvelle génération. Le jeune Walker Scobell vu dans Adam à travers le temps aux côtés de Ryan Reynolds réussit à dégager une innocence de héros malgré lui qui colle très bien au personnage. Leah Sava Jeffries incarne Annabeth, qui a toujours été décrite comme très intelligente. Et enfin Aryan Simhadri joue Grover, le « comic relief » du trio. Ils semblent plus jeunes que leurs homologues des films, et c'est le cas, même s'ils ont bien grandi sur le tournage. Côté adultes, on est bien servi aussi, même s'ils sont en retrait par rapport à nos trois jeunes héros. Et c'est pour le mieux, car en gardant l'âge des personnages, on retrouve aussi l'essence et le cœur des livres avec des moments un simples mais touchants avec des ados qui jouent des ados. Pour les connaisseurs du livre, l'un des moments forts du début est leur arrivée au camp des demi-dieux, et si au début vous n'étiez pas forcément convaincus, cette scène pourra bien être le moment charnière pour continuer l'histoire avec eux. Et les voilà partis dans un monde de mythes et monstres pour amener la paix sur le monde. Les obstacles devant eux pour remplir la quête de l'Oracle vont s'avérer ardus, que ce soit les harpies ou d'autres symboles mythologiques qui prennent vie. Les effets spéciaux sont très réussis, et ces monstres sont diablement réalistes. En tout cas, la dynamique du trio fonctionne, l'amour maternel aussi (on peut même dire que la série soutient les mères qui élèvent leurs enfants seules), et on est à fond derrière le trio. Percy Jackson: Die Serie | Zwischen Big Apple und Olymp - Unser Ersteindruck (Disney+) Beliebte Buchreihen, die im Kino scheiterten, bekommen ja für gewöhnlich einige Jahre später gern mal eine zweite Chance spendiert, in Serienform zu glänzen. Nach "Eine Reihe betrüblicher Ereignisse" oder "Der Goldene Kompass" darf sich nun "Percy Jackson" neu beweisen. Zwar brachte es der Teenager- Halbgott in den Nullerjahren immerhin auf ganze zwei Kinoabenteuer, die aber gleichermaßen die Fans der Vorlage eher enttäuschten. Nun startet ab dem 20. Dezember auf Disney+ mit "Percy Jackson: Die Serie" der zweite Anlauf, der vor allem durch Autor Rick Riordan als Co-Showrunner dieses Mal mehr Werktreue verspricht und natürlich auch mit einem komplett frischen Cast daherkommt. Angeführt wird dieser von Newcomer Walker Scobell als Percy, menschlicher Sohn von Halbgott Poseidon, Leah Jeffries als Annabeth Chase, Tochter von Kriegsgöttin Athene sowie Aryan Simhadri als Satyr Grover. Wie schon die Romanreihe und die Kinofilme, vermischt die Serie typisches Coming-of-Age mit Urban Fantasy mit reichlich Anleihen aus der griechischen Mythologie. Percy Jackson and the Olympians press week (00:27:50) We've got A LOT of interviews to cover, so sit back and enjoy our breakdown of the highlights. (You can also read the accompanying article.) First up, we've got showrunners Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz, plus Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri. How familiar were the kids with the books? How did they make these characters their own? Which scenes best showcased Percabeth? What was it like being on the Camp Half-Blood set? Someone asked Walker if he was going to be in Deadpool 3! What aspect of their own personalities did they put into their characters? Which scenes were they most excited to film? How much babysitting did Aryan have to do!? How did they toe the line between being faithful to the books and bringing this story to life in a different medium? What did they take home from the set? (Aryan's answer got us VERY excited.) What did Walker learn from his co-stars? Our friends at Monster Donut Podcast got to ask what their favorite myths are. There were several questions about being faithful to the books, and we love Jon and Dan's answers. Next up, we got to talk to Jeff White, the visual effects supervisor for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. How did the team make the world of Percy Jackson stand out? What creature did they have the most fun creating? We get some really cool behind-the-scenes information about how Chiron was brought to life. We also learned how much Aryan did to bring Grover to the small screen. Jeff also talked about the Volume stage and how integral it was to creating the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. He also told us a few fun stories about figuring out different ways to bring aspects of the story alive, like Riptide and Iris Messaging. What drew Jeff to this project? Time and time again, everyone said how often they'd go back to the books for inspiration! Next up, we heard from set designer Dan Henna and costume designer Tish Monaghan. They both talk about their process for expanding on what was given in the books. We also learn how they both helped bring Camp Half-Blood to life. Hearing about Alecto's transformation really added to our feelings about the scene. There was so much talk about Medusa's portrayal, and we're even more excited to see her on screen now. And who can forget about the Lotus Hotel and Casino? They both describe their favorite costumes and sets. Again, the constant mantra on set was “go back to the book.” Lastly, we also got to hear from Rick and Becky Riordan! There was lots of talking about refreshing the story and doing some things Rick wished he would've done 20 years ago. They also talk about how they just knew when they found the trio. There were no pre-conceived notions about who would be cast as the gods. Becky commented on the fact that they got to expand upon Luke's motivations. We also learn about some moments from the series that can't be found in the book. They didn't want slapstick comedy, but there are still plenty of laughs. It's important that the show feels modern and timeless. We can't wait to learn more about Sally and Poseidon's relationship! Did you know that Rick and Becky didn't go see Camp Half-Blood until it was all finished? We were so excited to learn how important Becky was to the process of adapting the series. Seaweed Brain Podcast got to ask them if Percabeth was the greatest love story of all time! Would we want to see a Percy Jackson and the Olympians musical episode? Percy Jackson and the Olympians episodes 1 and 2 spoiler-free review (02:12:21) We got to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians episodes 1 and 2 ahead of the premiere date and WE'RE SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS SHOW. First, we have to give you our overall thoughts, which is that we absolutely loved the episodes we got to see. The quality of the show is immaculate, between the set production, the costuming, and the visual effects. It's also extremely accurate to the source material! Anything they changed was small-scale, and felt logical for the tone of the story. Seeing Camp Half-Blood was surreal, and the Big House was beautiful! It was amazing that they somehow made everyone look like individuals despite all wearing the same shirts. And Chiron and Mr. D's costumes were perfect and fit them so well. We talk more about the dryad that Tish Monaghan mentioned. Okay, but now we need to get into our thoughts on everyone's performances. Walker Scobell as Percy Jackson is literally perfect. He OWNS this character. We also can't get enough of Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase. She's silent a lot through her scenes, but she says SO MUCH. And then there's Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood. He's got great chemistry with Walker, and his comedic timing is also genius. But we were super impressed by Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson. And no one will be surprised that Jason Mantzoukas is the perfect Dionysus. And the same goes for Glynn Turman as Chiron, who is more perfect than anyone could've dreamed. This is, without a doubt, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians adaptation that we've always dreamed of. Feedback (02:42:58) Mac wants to know if CRITICS will enjoy the show? Ark is curious if there are some fan-favorite quotes that made it into the series. Dr. Tiezn needs to know more about Camp Half-Blood coming to life. Solomon's son wants to know if the show is accurate to the book. Meanwhile, Ennis is worried about Grover's hair. There's also a thread on Twitter that gives you a good overview. We go over a few of the highlights, including the amount of money in new wages and the streaming participation bonus. SAG also negotiated for consent and compensation for the use of AI, but let's be honest here: this is not the end of the discussion by far. This contract only lasts three years, and it'll be interesting to see what's changed in that time. Increased pension and health caps are important! And so are the protections for diverse communities. Overall, this did a lot for the community, and we hope everyone benefits greatly moving forward. Percy Jackson and the Olympians teaser trailers and images (00:11:47) But now it's time to talk about all of the footage, images, and interviews for Percy Jackson and the Olympians we couldn't discuss previously! We have A LOT to get through, so sit back, put on your thinking cap, and let us know if we've missed any details. First up, we have the teaser for the teaser trailer. We finally have a premiere date, and it's coming so much sooner than expected! It's interesting that we're already getting a look at shots from the END of the season. Karen really went all out to get all the details. Did you see the giant skeleton hanging from the ceiling of the Poseidon cabin? We're guessing at a lot of the context of these scenes, but we're pretty sure we're right. Who can do a smoky eye better than Medusa!? Did you catch Thalia's tree along the left side of the screen as the trio was leaving camp? Annabeth is most likely stabbing the chimera, and she looks SO BADASS. We're gonna be emotionally damaged when the minotaur attacks Sally. Glynn Turman really has the best voice for the character of Chiron! We love the outro titles, along with the cover of Vance Joy's “Riptide” by Stealth. This teaser didn't give away any big moments, especially for those unfamiliar with the story. We discuss the list of directors for each episode of Percy Jackson and the Olympians James Bobin has a lot of great productions under his belt targeted toward children. Jet Wilkinson has dome some SERIOUS directorial work for Disney already, along with some other great shows. Anders Engström has done a few projects we've heard about, and one of them was with Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz. Did you read the September 18 Entertainment Weekly article? We talk about Aryan Simhadri as Grover, along with how a Black Annabeth falls perfectly in line with what Rick wanted to accomplish with this story. Why are the Poseidon and Ares signs the only ones painted? Chiron has a brace on his leg, and we love this added detail SO MUCH. Did you catch the details of Hades and Persephone's thrones? We loved the details about Percy trying not to look too weird during swim practice. It's not hard to figure out someone's a god when they can freeze time. There's no way around this: Ganymede is hot. Let's take a trip to Himbo Juice! It's VERY important that we discuss everyone's drink order. There's a very good reason why Ganymede doesn't like eagles. In case anyone doubted it, Annabeth and Grover still have Percy's back. The gig economy is rough on everyone—even gods. Now it's time to discuss Chalice of the Gods chapter 5. Poor Ganymede is triggered. It's a VERY big deal that the chalice is missing. But who could've stolen it? Ganymede has a lot of enemies. Hera is mad that Ganymede has nicer legs than her. But Hebe and Iris used to have the job he has now… What kind of deadline are we working with? Ganymede has a few restrictions for the trio… Thank goodness Grover knows where to start! The franchise was previously adapted into films with Logan Lerman and Alexandra Daddario in lead roles.The Summer I Turned Pretty season 2 announced Amazon Prime's hit coming-of-age drama series The Summer I Turned Pretty will return for a second season. Filming has already commenced for the follow-up season with Lola Tung to reprise her role as the lead. The series is based on the novel by popular writer Jenny Han.Rosamund Pike to narrate audiobook adaptations of The Wheel of Time Rosamund Pike, the star of the hit Amazon Prime TV series The Wheel of Time, is set to serve as narrator for the audiobooks ‘The Great Hunt' and 'The Dragon Reborn' based on Robert Jordan's novels of the same name from The Wheel of Time franchise. Sorvino is the father of Oscar-winning actress Mira Sorvino.First look of new Dhanush film revealed Tamil superstar Dhanush, who recently starred in the Netflix action film The Gray Man, is set to play the lead in the new Tamil-Telugu film Vaathi. Directed by Venky Atluri, the period drama will be set in the 80s and will also star Samyuktha Menon in the lead role. We're still rooting for Melissa Ponzio as Sally Jackson, but we've got a few contenders as far as warm motherly figures go. Karen really struggled with finding someone for Gabe, but after a moment's hesitation, the floodgates opened for Kristen. Both of us have trouble imagining what Nancy Bobafit looks like, but Karen had the idea to do a bit of stunt casting for this role. What do you think? Mrs. Dodds needs to be that ancient, sinister math teacher whose classroom you never want to visit. The only problem is that everyone in Hollywood is beautiful! If there's one thing for sure, Chiron needs to be able to pull off tweed. Karen can't take credit, but we know the perfect person to play Mr. D. But Kristen's pick is also pretty fantastic. Somehow, we both managed to pick the same person for Clarisse. But, like, SHE WOULD BE PERFECT. Okay, Karen's pick for Luke is a little different, but hear her out! Kristen's pick looks a lot like how we picture Luke, though. Medusa could be another great role for some stunt casting, and we agree she should be played by an actress with super curly hair. Last but certainly not least, we've got Charon. He's canonically a Black man, so we'd want to see them stick with an actor who can fill that role, but we've got some alternatives, too. Kristen felt the need to clarify what Nico uses to raise the dead. We're already up to Prophecy Count #18! Uhhh, Luke is a little too powerful right now. And Kelli remains super creepy. How does this whole fountain thing work? What does it mean that Nico is looking for a second opinion? We get to meet THE Theseus. Why did the fountain image glow so brightly?? Percy needs to go eat a Happy Meal RIGHT NOW. Thank goodness Chiron doesn't trust Quintus either. Now it's time for Battle of the Labyrinth chapter 6. Is this opening scene about Roman gods and architecture a hint to Heroes of Olympus? How do you pronounce Janus? Shout out to Buffy episode 2×06! What are Janus' pronouns?? Deep Dive: Hades (00:32:16) There is a lot to discuss when it comes to Hades. Do we feel bad for Hades? Zeus is such a butt face. Did he rig the game when they were picking their domains? There are SO many Hades and Persephone retellings, so go looking for them! Persephone eating those pomegranate seeds was a super big deal. Hades was a decent guy…for a god. Zeus straight up just complicated everything. Hades needs to go to Kidnappers Anonymous. But even his affairs weren't as bad as, say, Zeus'. It's interesting to see how the Underworld has evolved over time. And especially amazing to see how he figured out the best way to communicate new death rites to the human race. Did you know Cerberus was a DOG SNAKE? What does Hades look like in the Percy Jackson series? Karen and Kristen get hung up on the word bident. Hades has a lot of abilities. Like a lot a lot. Umbrakinesis is a cool power and more superheroes should have it. We want Mythomagic to be real! Hades is actually a pretty hard worker, which is probably a good thing. It's FINALLY time for our Hades casting. Karen's got jokes. But her first pick is actually someone we've talked about before. Kristen's first choice is someone who has the ability to truly become the character they're portraying. Karen's second pick might be kind of obvious, but he'd be SO GOOD. Kristen's next choice is NO JOKE. Just think about it. Karen's third choice has been in the running for a few others, but she's finally decided to go for it. Kristen's third pick is a combo package, and both people can totally pull off pale. Karen picked a pretty wholesome looking guy for her last choice, but she thinks it could work! Kristen cannot be stopped, and she's got TWO more candidates for Hades left. Shout-out to Alan Rickman for being our dream pick, though. If you're looking for a classically handsome Hades, Kristen's got the actor for you. Kristen's number one choice gives serious Alan Rickman vibes, so he'd be perfect! We also had a couple listeners write in with their own Hades fancasts! Chapter Reviews (01:41:16) It's time to finish up this book, starting with Titan's Curse chapter 19! This book is pretty pivotal to the entire Percy Jackson series. We meet some gods we haven't seen before! Is Athena's fatal flaw her lack of emotion? There are some really fantastic Percabeth moments in these chapters. Did it make sense that Thalia joined the Hunters? Percy Jackson is The One. Why did Ares want to destroy the ophiotaurus? The way the music worked was pretty cool. We learn what Percy's fatal flaw is, and…it makes a lot of sense, tbh. Percy and Annabeth finally get their moment! They have gray streaks that *match* exactly. It's time to talk about Titan's Curse chapter 20. PROTECT TYSON AT ALL COSTS. Percy and Tyson's relationship has come so far. And can we just talk about how mature Percy is!? Who's more terrifying, Ares or Aphrodite? We get an update on pretty much everyone. Why did they wait to tell Nico about Bianca until Percy got there? Hello Nico di Angelo, son of Hades! We only got ONE hint about the di Angelos' lineage—did you catch it? Percy taking on the prophecy is…heavy. It's awesome that we're still talking about Pan, even in the third book. That's a wrap! We're so excited about Battle of the Labyrinth!
