Donated to the anti-segregationist Methodist congregation by industrialist Henry Flagler in 1886, this church is both beautiful and historically significant. My apologies for how breathy this episode is. I have some mild asthma and it was acting up a little bit on my recording day. I tried to edit it out as much as I could but there were some louder breaths and sighs I could not isolate and get rid of. https://catalog.archives.gov/id/77844057 http://cdn.loc.gov/master/pnp/habshaer/fl/fl0200/fl0210/data/fl0210data.pdf

When you think of Florida - what comes to mind? Surely it's sunny beaches and top quality oranges. Probably the last thing that anyone associates Florida with is bourbon. However, a distillery located in the heart of America's oldest city is seeking to change that. St. Augustine Distillery, which was established in 2013, produces numerous spirits and one of its most popular products is Florida Straight Bourbon. This week, we taste and review this bottle and talk about numerous things such as vacation bourbon hunting, shelf clogging, and if Florida wheat is the same as other kinds of wheat. While we probably won't have an answer to that, we do promise that you will be entertained. Pass, try, or buy…you'll have to listen to find out. Was This The Most Haunted Pub In America? Scarlett O'Hara's In St. Augustine, Florida. Nestled on the northeast coast of Florida, St. Augustine proudly claims its title as the oldest city in the U.S. With its charming Spanish colonial architecture and stunning Atlantic Ocean beaches such as St. Augustine Beach and Crescent Beach, it's no wonder this city has captivated the hearts of many, including us. We've had the pleasure of visiting this remarkable place on numerous occasions. One notable establishment in St. Augustine was Scarlett O'Hara's, a pub situated at 70 Hypolita St. Sadly, the business was forced to close its doors when it lost its lease and the building changed hands. Scarlett O'Hara's was not only a pub but also known as the Ghost Bar, renowned for being one of the most haunted pubs in Florida, and perhaps even in all of America. The original building at 70 Hypolita St. has a storied history, dating back to its construction in 1870. It's also rumored to be home to two restless spirits. In this episode of the Haunting Or Not Podcast, we unravel the mysteries and legends surrounding Scarlett O'Hara's, allowing you to be the ultimate judge. Was it a genuine ghost story or merely a product of imagination and lore? Tune in to discover the spine-tingling details Be sure to Like the Show's Facebook Page. Lately I've been feeling nostalgic for St. Augustine Florida. My parents bought a condo there when I was 9 and I spent every spring break and summer there until I was 18, and visited often after my kids were born. After my mom died in 2018 my dad sold the condo- much to the dismay of me and my siblings. St Augustine is part of my foundation and my kids, too. Being that we are currently in the heart of summer, I've found myself longing for this second home that I miss and love— I figured I'd share some stories from those days as a way to sort of soothe myself! After 6 months of working as a design engineer for Cleaver-Brooks, a young, fresh out of college mechanical engineer named Chase Collier would quickly realize that corporate America was not for him. What confirmed this feeling was seeing the difference between his paycheck and that of the sales persons at his company. He deduced that in his job position, he'd eventually hit a limit on how much he could earn, even if he went into corporate sales, which he eventually did. However, While conducting his research on “how to get out of corporate America” he came across Real Estate and after 6 years of capping multiple sales positions in multiple companies, Chase finally decided to make the shift. That was exactly 1 year 8 months ago during which Chase has built partnerships in multiple businesses, including Hard Money Lending and a Beach Club in St. Augustine Florida! Did we mention that he's 30 years old, already bought and sold a bar, has his real estate license, is working on getting his Broker's license and has created a networking group to help professionals scale their businesses? Yeah, he's a rockstar! Chase's Failing Forward helps us to understand how to take our losses as lessons that will potentially fuel our success if used in the right way. What is the right way? This week, in St. Augustine, Florida, cold case detectives are shocked when they realize that a murderer, caught in another state, may just be responsible for many murders, in Florida. This killer ends us telling them the whole tale of his sordid career as a serial killer. Even he's not quite sure where this itch came from, but he scratched it by killing at least 7 women, that he thought no one would miss, in brutal, terrible & heartless ways. The problem is, there may be many, many more, where those came from, as he's suspected of having killed in several other states, as well!Along the way, we find out that no one actually wants to live anything like a pirate, that everyone is something to someone, and that not being able to satisfy a sexual partner should make you try harder, not start murdering people!!Hosted by James Pietragallo and Jimmie WhismanNew episodes every Thursday!Donate at: patreon.com/crimeinsports or go to paypal.com and use our email: crimeinsports@gmail.comGo to shutupandgivememurder.com for all things Small Town Murder & Crime In Sports!Follow us on...twitter.com/@murdersmallfacebook.com/smalltownpodinstagram.com/smalltownmurderAlso, check out James & Jimmie's other show, Crime In Sports! SUMMARY Down to Florida we go as Behind the Tour host Aaron Cronk meets up with ACTS Education Program Leaders (EPLs) Julie Groton and Lisa Strong and take a tour of historic St. Augustine – America's Oldest City. Aaron starts off with a brief history of Florida – including the French attempting to gain a foothold there, Spain fighting them off, the British moving in – then out again after the Revolutionary War. Spain returning and finally Florida becoming a U.S. State. The podcast then follows Julie and Lisa as they walk us through the many stops that are normally included on American Christian Tours St. Augustine education tour programs – including the Fountain of Youth, the Castillo de San Marcos, the Bridge of Lions, and more! This week, we're talking to 60 year old Patent Lawyer, Tim Markison. In late September, Tim embarked on a 3,000 mile journey from San Diego California to St. Augustine Florida on his bicycle. His aim is to increase awareness of child abuse prevention and promote healing for its victims. A survivor himself, Tim is raising money to prevent this epidemic from continuing to plague future generations through the Interwoven Circles Foundation. Tim's story is not of pain and heartbreak but a story of finding the courage to heal from a traumatic past to give hope for the future.
We look at the origin of the name of this inlet between Jacksonville and St. Augustine Florida.

St. Augustine, is a city on the Atlantic coast of northeastern Florida. Founded on September 8th, 1565 by Spanish explorers, it is the oldest continuously-inhabited European-established settlement in the United States. Ponce De Leon, is the Spanish explorer who lead the first official European expedition to Florida in 1513, and while this expedition put him in the history books, its the theory that he was searching, all down the East Coast of Florida, for the fabled Fountain of Youth, that has made him more famous today. Since the very first humans roamed the Earth about 300,000 years ago, the tidal-locked face of the Moon silently watched all of humanity unfold. She has been the one single object that every living creature could see no matter where they were on planet Earth. She was there for every war, every natural disaster, every achievement. Hundreds of millions of people at one time or another have gazed at her in wonder. Sea-level rise is a real problem. Observational data and changing conditions in such places as Greenland suggest if there is a problem there, then it is an underestimation of future sea-level rise elsewhere. The IPCC reports offer conservative projections of sea-level increase based on assumptions about the future behavior of ice sheets and glaciers, leading to estimates of sea level roughly following a linear upward trend mimicking that of recent decades. Need an endless boost to your immune system? Growing culinary herbs on your balcony, backyard, or even your windowsill can be a great way to incorporate them into your cooking creations. There's an added bonus: many herbs are beneficial to the immune system. Using these flavorful and aromatic herbs can give an extra oomph to a meal, as well as your health. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sciencebytes/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/sciencebytes/support

204 - Andy Murray We're welcoming restaurateur & chef Andy Murray. Andy Murray is the man behind the Murray Bros Caddyshack Restaurant. It was along with his friend, the entrepreneur Mac Haskell that the original idea was formed to take the classic golf comedy film “Caddyshack” and create a restaurant based on it. The original location opened in St. Augustine Florida in 2001 (which I've been a proud eater at every time I pass through) and there's a second location in Rosemont, Illinois. Andy Murray developed the menu for the restaurants. An Honors graduate of the New York Restaurant School he worked in some of the most renowned restaurants in New York, Mortimer's, the Tribeca Grill and the Lonestar Roadhouse. He's also the brother of past guests John Murray, Ed Murray and Joel Murray. It's an honor to welcome a down-to-earth man who understands that the simple things are the best pleasures in life. Andy Murray is serving up a great interview right here on The Paul Leslie Hour. Special thanks to our friend Terry Kane for making this interview a reality! In the first episode of the Firearms Nation Podcast I talk with 3 Gun Nation competitor Keith Garcia and we talk about guns in California, shooting PCC and surfing. I learned that Keith has been a California police officer for over 20 years. He has run the gamut of various positions in the department but is know for being on the SWAT team as it's leader.
