    Atom Bomb Testing - Baxterville, Mississippi

    Baxterville is an unincorporated community in Lamar County, Mississippi. Located in the southwestern portion along Mississippi Highway 13, southwest of Hattiesburg. At 10:00 a.m. on October 22, 1964, the United States government detonated an underground nuclear device in Lamar County, in south Mississippi. Residents there felt three separate shocks, and watched as the soil rose and behaved like ocean waves. Hunting dogs howled in terror, and two miles from the test site the blast shook pecans off the pecan trees.     Devil's Crossroads - Clarksdale, Mississippi

    Clarksdale is a city in Mississippi, and is located along the Sunflower River. Many African-American musicians developed the blues here, and took this original American music with them to Chicago and other northern cities during the Great Migration. With that being said, the blues brings us to one of Clarksdale's most famous stories, Robert Johnson and the Devil's Crossroads.     Home of Tabasco - Avery Island, Louisiana

    Avery Island, is not actually an island, but a salt dome, located in Iberia Parish, Louisiana. It is three miles inland from Vermilion Bay, which in turn, opens onto the Gulf of Mexico. A small human population lives on the island, and the island is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Avery Island, has its bird sanctuary, exotic plants, and Jungle Gardens, but its best known today as the source of Tabasco sauce.     Ave Maria Grotto - Cullman, Alabama

    Cullman is the largest city and county seat of Cullman County, Alabama..located just 50 miles north of Birmingham. Five German families moved to the area in March 1873; and by 1874, the town was incorporated and named after Colonel Cullmann. Over the next 20 years, Cullmann encouraged around 100,000 Germans to immigrate to the United States, with many settling in the Cullman area. In the 1840s monks from Metten Abbey in Germany, a monastery founded in 700 A.D., came to America, to minister to the growing German-speaking immigrant population. St. Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, became the first foundation of the German monks, and in the 1870s monks from St. Vincent were sent to Alabama to serve the needs of German Catholics. In 1891 those monks gathered to establish St. Bernard Abbey in Cullman, Alabama.     Adamsville's lives up to its nickname, the "Biggest Little Town in Tennessee" as it was also the home of one of the most well know Sheriffs in history, Buford Pusser. In 1964, he was elected sheriff of McNairy County, ss soon as he was elected, Buford Pusser threw himself into his work. He first turned his attention to the Dixie Mafia and the State Line Mob, two gangs that operated on the line between Tennessee and Mississippi. Over the course of the next three years, Pusser survived several assassination attempts. He was shot, stabbed, beaten, blown up, and run over. His wife was murdered. He wrestled a bear (and won). and Through it all Buford was unstoppable.     Chillicothe is a city in the state of Missouri with a small population of just over 9,000 people. The name "Chillicothe" is Shawnee for "big town", From 1865 to 1870, the city improved rapidly, then a lull lasted until 1875, when the erection of the beautiful three-story, $36,000 school building was started, now known as "Middle School." From that time on Chillicothe made a slow, steady growth up to 1886, when the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul Railroad were built through town. That same year also saw the introduction of the "Water Works" and electric lights.     St. Augustine, is a city on the Atlantic coast of northeastern Florida. Founded on September 8th, 1565 by Spanish explorers, it is the oldest continuously-inhabited European-established settlement in the United States. Ponce De Leon, is the Spanish explorer who lead the first official European expedition to Florida in 1513, and while this expedition put him in the history books, its the theory that he was searching, all down the East Coast of Florida, for the fabled Fountain of Youth, that has made him more famous today.     Decatur is a city in DeKalb County, Georgia, which is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area, with it unofficial motto "Everything is Greater in Decatur". But the town of Decatur gained a national reputation, by being the home, to one of the biggest southern staples, the beloved breakfast restaurant franchise, Waffle House.     Vicksburg, is a historic city in Warren County, Mississippi. Located on a high bluff on the east side of the Mississippi River, across from Louisiana. Steeped in Native American, Civil War, and French colonial its an open history book. But one home located behind the wrought iron gates at 1445 Harrison Street, has seen and endured the majority of Vicksburg's history, the notorious McRaven Home. Since being built in the late 1700s, ownership of the home has changed several times, but one thing has remained the same.
