Critically acclaimed British composer, musician and mercury prize-winning Benjamin Clementine joins Headliner from the European leg of his tour, which culminates in London at the iconic venue, the Troxy, on April 10th. He reveals what fans can expect to hear at his only London tour show date, why his new album, Sir Introvert and the Featherweights, will be his last, and why the Troxy might well be fans' last opportunity to see him play a headline show.
The film stars Saoirse Ronan and Elliot Heffernan (in his film debut) in the lead roles, along with Harris Dickinson, Benjamin Clementine, Kathy Burke, Paul Weller, and Stephen Graham in supporting roles. Blitz had its world premiere as the opening film at the BFI London Film Festival on October 9, 2024, and was released in select cinemas in the United Kingdom and United States on November 1, 2024, followed by a streaming release on Apple TV+ on November 22, 2024. The film received positive reviews from critics
For this week's second podcast review, I am joined by Josh Parham, Dan Bayer & Will Mavity to review and discuss the latest film from Academy Award-winner Steve McQueen, "Blitz," starring Saoirse Ronan, Harris Dickinson, Elliott Heffernan, Benjamin Clementine, Kathy Burke, Paul Weller, Stephen Graham, Erin Kellyman & Leigh Gill. Depicting WWII London during the blitzkrieg bombings, the film is the largest, most ambitious project McQueen has tackled yet. What did we think of it? Tune in as we discuss the performances, writing, and direction from McQueen, the craftsmanship, its awards season chances, and more in our SPOILER-FILLED review. Thank you for listening, and enjoy! Nina Stibbe was fifty when she first became a published writer with Love Nina, a collection of letters she wrote to her sister in the 1980s about her time working as a very inexperienced young nanny for Mary-Kay Wilmers, editor of the London Review of books. She found herself running a home where Alan Bennett often appeared at suppertime and other famous neighbours and people would pop round - though Nina had often no idea who they were. Her affectionate, witty memoir won non-fiction Book of the Year in 2014 and was adapted by Nick Hornby into a BBC TV series. After nannying, Nina worked in publishing and then moved to Cornwall where she lived with her partner and children. Since the success of Love Nina, she has written six more books, four of them novels. Her latest, Went to London, Took the Dog, charts her first return to the capital for twenty years. It's a break from domestic life back in Cornwall, or perhaps a fresh start altogether. Nina's musical choices include music by Handel, Mozart, Brahms and Benjamin Clementine.
Lakota, ljubezen in ustvarjanje so osrednje teme pogovora Uršule Zaletelj z gostom oddaje Evropa osebno.
Salvador Sobral é o convidado desta semana do Posto Emissor.

Beautiful beautiful art. Art evokes. It tugs at our heart, pokes and prods our mind and leaves us changed. Sometimes it changes us in ways we're not aware. We thank Kendrick Lamar for releasing his latest album “Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers” and allowing that content to serve as the bedrock for this conversation. This discussion transcends music and celebrity, similarly to how the album elevates the listener to a place far outside of simple musical appreciation. I hope you all enjoy as much as we did.

As many people are getting ready for back to school, we know that school might look very different than we're used to. Maybe you'll be in a smaller classroom, or maybe you'll be doing online school again. We're bringing back our Pixie Pandemic episode right before our next season starts. Plus, this episode has special shoutouts to some of our amazing listeners who called our audio postcard hotline. If you have a question about the show, you can ask your grown up about calling 206.4.FUN.LAVA and leave us an audio postcard. It’s pixie season in the Neighborhood. Everybody has to stay inside – even Macho Supreme. Macho was really looking forward to the Glamour Flex contest, and now he can’t go! Scotty and Macho discuss feeling frustrated, why we sometimes need to stay in to help everybody out, and tons of stuff you can do while you’re stuck inside. In this week's episode, Scotty and Macho discuss how it feels to be frustrated, and why it’s disappointing when you can’t do the things you were looking forward to. Feeling disappointed can feel like a real loss, so it's important to acknowledge those feelings before jumping in with alternative things to do. If you’re stuck at home, have you tried making new friends… from scratch? You and your child can try building your own Cardboard Scotty, or other friends, family, or imaginary characters. You can draw signs or pictures to put up around your house or your neighborhood (which you can share with us on the Imagine Neighborhood website!) And you can discuss how it feels to be frustrated or disappointed when you don’t get to do something you were looking forward to. This week's music is Cornerstone by Benjamin Clementine.
Following the release of four highly-praised singles (‘Confessional’, ‘Saint of the Sinners’, ‘Honest Men’ and ‘Away with the Fairies’), Janet prepares to deliver the penultimate single ‘Holy Water’ today, May 22nd 2020, ahead of her hotly-anticipated concept album ‘Confessional’ release on June 5th 2020. With a total of nineteen performers on the track, including legends from the traditional Irish scene such as Eoin Dillon, Brian Fleming, and Peter Browne, ‘Holy Water’ captures a riotous, celebratory party atmosphere, with an infectious chorus and rhythm you can’t help but stomp your feet to. Her Irish roots are prominently showcased, with turns from the exceptional musicians providing fiddle, uilleann pipes, bodhrán and accordion parts, all recorded at Westland Studios, Dublin. ‘Holy Water’s energetic and high-spirited feel is a simple expression of the relief and release felt when a significant milestone has been reached. Janet explains; “I wanted to make this sound like something you’d hear in an Irish bar, people having fun and being boisterous. It’s a throwback to a time I felt happy, with close friends enjoying good music from back home. It’s a celebration that the past lives in the past and the future is unwritten.” ‘Holy Water’ almost drowned under the weight of personal setbacks inflicted on the singer as she navigated her way through a decade-long struggle with demons including alcoholism, as revealed in intimate detail in her autobiography ‘My Confessional’, also released June 5th 2020. When all the drinking became too much, and at the insistence of herself, Janet sought help and began the journey of recovery. The year was 2015. No longer staring down an empty bottle, Janet’s creativity returned, allowing for the concept of Confessional to creep into her mind. A deeply personal song, ‘Holy Water’ is adored by Janet and producer by Jonathan Quarmby (Lewis Capaldi, Tom Walker, Benjamin Clementine). It’s therefore of no surprise that the track just flowed out of Janet’s fingers in a burst of inspiration. “In less than 30 minutes, the ‘Holy Water’ we now know was written. Whether or not it was any good, I had no idea. I took it to my producer the next day who helped me finish the track; ‘It’s either so simple that it’s genius… or… well… crap,’ he said! Despite its subject matter – or maybe because of it – ‘Holy Water’ is my favourite track on the album. I wanted this song to be representative of the ‘up’ after the acceptance of my issues. The feeling of relief I got when the great weight had been lifted off my shoulders. The album was originally called Holy Water and I wanted this song to close the record. A happy ending to all of the hell I put myself through,” Janet confirms. Janet’s successful return to the music scene as a homegrown indie artist sees this life-affirming track setting out her stall post-lockdown: I’m here to stay. ‘Holy Water’ is the penultimate single from Confessional, released next month, and is sure to be a live favourite once touring is back on the table. With his dramatic voice, his elliptical but emotive songs, his classically-derived piano playing, and his striking presence on stage, British artist, poet, vocalist, composer, and musician Benjamin Clementine occupies a singular place in the music world – somewhere between art music and pop. Clementine's debut album At Least for Now won the 2015 Mercury Prize; he was named knight of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government in 2019, and together with his spouse and artistic/musical partner, Flo Morrissey, has put out music with as The Clementines earlier in 2020. He joined us at our piano back in 2016 to play music from that Mercury Prize-winning record. (From the Archives.)
